'Lorraine' Lincoln
KEARNEY -- Marjorie "Lorraine" Lincoln, 76, of Hastings, formerly Kearney died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Good Samaritan Village in Hastings.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith United Methodist Church in Kearney. The Revs. Bob Neben and C.J. Willis will officiate. Burial will be in Kearney Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney.
Memorials are suggested to the church, VFW Post 759 or family's choice.
Mrs. Lincoln was born Dec. 23, 1925, at Riverton to Lawrence E. and Lula Mae (Hornkohl) Williams. She grew up and was educated in the Grainton area.
She married
William P. Lincoln on Nov. 1, 1946, in Ellsworth, Kan. The couple lived in Ellsworth for two years, then followed construction in South Dakota, Oklahoma and Nebraska before moving to Kearney. She cleaned houses for many families and motels. She also was a seamstress for Bissell Decorating Studio. The couple traveled in the U.S. and Europe.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Kearney and VFW Post 759.
Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Lynn Hartmann of Juniata; a sister, Zella Straub of North Platte; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and sister.
Esther Manchester
ORD -- Esther L. Manchester, 73, of Ord died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Private burial will be in Ord City Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Her body was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the family, donor's choice or Burwell Community Memorial Health Center.
Wilfred Petersen
CEDAR RAPIDS -- Wilfred D. "Slick" Petersen, 92, of Spalding, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Friendship Villa in Spalding.
Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
'Dick' Urwiller
RAVENNA -- Richard "Dick" Urwiller, 71, of Ravenna died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at his home after battling cancer.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Mark Cadenbach will officiate. Burial will be in Ravenna Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Urwiller was born April 20, 1930, at St. Michael to Norton and Mabel (Wheelock) Urwiller. He grew up on a family farm east of Ravenna and St. Michael attended St. Michael School.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on July 13, 1951, and served in California and for one year at French Morocco North Africa during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged July 13, 1955.
He married
Beulah "Bea" Struble on Jan. 19, 1952, in Ravenna. The couple lived in California while he finished his service in the U.S. Air Force before moving back to his family's farm east of Ravenna. He worked on the farm doing various typed of diversified farming for many years. In 1972, the family started Urwiller's Melon Patch on the farm along Hwy. 2 east of Ravenna. He worked the melon business and other farming endeavors until his health forced him to stop near the end of 2001.
He enjoyed planting trees to create shelter belts to conserve land. He also enjoyed reading, history and his family. He was on the St. Michael's Rural School Board for a few years.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristine and John Graczyk of Ravenna; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Barbara Urwiller of Lancaster, Calif., Randal and Penny Urwiller of Hawkins, Texas, and Robert and Christine Urwiller of Ravenna; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Margy Kieborz of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Helen.
James Lofquist
MERNA -- James W. Lofquist, 64, of Merna died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Broken Bow. Kathy Salts and the Rev. Kathleen LaRocque will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Lofquist was born Oct. 26, 1937, at Mobridge, S.D., and was adopted by Palmer and Ella (Neumann) Lofquist. He lived in Pierport, S.D., where he became an Eagle Scout, was elected to Boys State and was active in the local church and community. After graduating in 1956 from Pierport High School, he moved to Aberdeen, S.D., where he received his bachelor of science and masters degree in education.
He married
Margaret "Maggie" DeVries on May 28, 1960, at the Methodist Church in Andover, S.D. He was a coach, teacher and superintendent for 38 years.
He was active in Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, Elks Lodge, Phi Delta Kappa, The Schools Masters Club and the church. He also attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for his educational specialist degree.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Pat Downey of Merna; two sons, Kraig Lofquist of Wayne and Paul Lofquist of West Point; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Terri Lyn Lofquist.
'Beth' Lemburg
NEWPORT, Wash. -- Bertha E. "Beth" Lemburg, 95, of Newport, Wash., died Friday, March 29, 2002.
Private graveside services will be in Dry Creek cemetery in Howard County.
Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home of Newport is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lemburg was born June 26, 1906, at Villesca, Iowa, to Thornton and Luella Shinn. In 1918, she moved with her family to Elba. She attended rural school and graduated from Elba High School in 1924. After graduation, she taught rural school in Howard and Valley counties.
She married
Howard Lemburg in 1934. The couple lived in Dannebrog where she taught for a number of years. Her husband died in 1969. She later moved to Grand Island where she did volunteer work. In 1999, she moved to Newport, Wash., to live near her family.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary and National Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Errol and Nelda Lemburg of Newport, Wash.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a foster brother, Darwin King of Mullan, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, three sisters, Wilma Sintek, Ruth Hansen and Zella Plate, and a brother, Corporal Ralph Shinn.
Evelyn Miller
Evelyn M. Miller, 80, of Grand Island died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will beat 2 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island with the Rev. Joel Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Miller was born Oct. 7, 1921, in Grand Island to John and Martha (Koch) Meinecke. She grew up in Grand Island and received her education at District 30 Rural School. After school she continued to live in Grand Island until her death.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Karen Miller of Grand Island; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and David Gilleylen of Arvada, Colo.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Meinecke of Loveland, Colo.; and three sisters, Margaret Counts of Conyers, Ga., Marty Daily of Grand Island and Arlene Brunz of San Jose, Calif.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Hulda Miller, and two brothers, Harry and Al Meinecke.
