Louis Nietfeldt
86, Farmer
Louis F. Nietfeldt, 86, a lifelong Hall County resident of Grand Island, died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare at Lakeview.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jack Eske will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church.
Mr. Nietfeldt was born Feb. 27, 1916, in rural Hall County to Harry and Alma (Joehnch) Nietfeldt. He attended District 28 School (Mile Ridge School), graduating in 1932. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Nov. 6, 1941, and served until March 17, 1945. He farmed, raised hogs and dairy cattle from 1946 to 1977. He then helped his cousin Myron Nietfeldt from 1978 to 1992.
He was a lifelong member of Messiah Lutheran Church, a 50-year member of American Legion Post 53 and a 50-year member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 378 where he enjoyed ballroom and Polka dancing. He also enjoyed upland game and duck hunting.
Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Lemke of Hastings.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lester.
Doris Dorothy
BURWELL -- Doris I. Dorothy, 93, of Burwell died Friday, April 5, 2002, at Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Burwell. The Rev. Rolly Salts will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to Community Memorial Health Center.
Mrs. Dorothy was born Feb. 19, 1909, at the family farm outside Burwell to Perry C. and Mattie E. (Goatley), Donner. She grew up in Burwell. When she was a teen-ager, her family moved to Kanarado, Kan., where she graduated from high school in 1927.
She married
Jay Dorothy on Nov. 16, 1931, in Sargent. The couple moved to Midwest, Wyo., living there for 42 years. Her husband died Dec. 15, 1981. The couple had been married
for 50 years.
She was active in Girl Scouts of America, PTA and Rebecca Lodge 24 in Midwest. She was certified in first aid by the American Red Cross. She enjoyed working with her hands, crocheting, knitting and sewing.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and June Dorothy of Gordonville, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Marilee and Richard Neil of LaMirada, Calif.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; three sisters and brother-in-law, Maye and Ellis Owen, Ellen Schmeits and Florence Hughes, all of Burwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Daren, a daughter, Navonne, five brothers and a sister.
Harold Hunkins
86, Retired farmer
ANSLEY -- Harold Hunkins, 86, of Ansley died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Ansley. Burial will be in Ansley Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow and from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Hunkins was born May 24, 1915, at Beaver Crossing to Orin and Edith (Beecher) Hunkins. He attended rural school and Beaver Crossing High School. After his schooling, he farmed with his family near Beaver Crossing.
He married
Evelyn Volzke on June 5, 1935, in Beaver Crossing. In 1940, the couple moved to Custer County. They then moved to their farm west of Ansley in 1949. He farmed and milked cows until his retirement.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ansley. He enjoyed spending time with his family, horses and dogs.
Survivors include his wife, a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Charles Watts of Ansley, four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Weldon Kleckner
83, World War II veteran
KEARNEY -- Weldon Kleckner, 83, of Kearney, formerly of Mason City died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at St. John's Center in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Burr Oak Church south of Broken Bow. The Revs. David Harder and Bob Gannon will officiate. Burial will be in Box Elder cemetery southwest of Ansley.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Burr Oak Church, First Baptist Church in Kearney or American Cancer Society.
Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kleckner was born Feb. 15, 1919, at Mason City to Lawrence J. and LaVina (Ostrand) Kleckner. He grew up in the Mason City area and attended the Sunny Slope School. He farmed in the Mason City area and then entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941. He served in World War II in China, Burma and India until being honorably discharged in 1945.
He married
Glenola Day on Feb. 12, 1947. The couple farmed and ranched south of Mason City. They moved to Kearney in 1996.
Survivors include his wife and a brother, Richard Kleckner of Miller.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Alice Noyd
STROMSBURG -- Alice C. Noyd, 87, of Stromsburg died Thursday, April 4, 2002, in rural Stromsburg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Evangelical Covenant Church in Stromsburg. The Rev. Bob Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Stromsburg Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to Stromsburg American Legion Club, National Arbor Day Foundation or Stromsburg Library Foundation.

Mrs. Noyd was born Feb. 26, 1915, at Laramie, Wyo., to Charles E. and Pearl (Lamoree) Eberly. She moved numerous times during her youth and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1934. She worked briefly at an ammunition plant in Grand Island during World War II, but most of the time she helped her parents on the farm. She retired at the age of 72 after working at Midwest Covenant House as a nurse's aide for 22 years. She had less than a six-year interruption of service at Covenant House when she moved to Columbus and worked at D&L; as well as the Columbus Manor.
She married
Lee H. Noyd on Sept. 26, 1945.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, music, cooking, reading books, gardening, fruit trees, flowers and her home.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Mary Olexo of Lincoln, Jo Ann and Jay Stalder of Clatonia; six sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Cheryl of Rogers, Terry of Lexington, Perry and Sharon of Stromsburg, John and Janice of Rogers, Gary and Jan of Shelby and Benny and Sue of Bethany, Mo.; 35 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Bob Franklin of Omaha; and two brothers and sister-in-law, Roy of Milford and Robert B. and Arlene of Redland, Calif.;
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Art and Charles, a sister, Betty Jo, a son, Ray, and a grandchild.
'Sally' Skorniak
ASHTON -- Salomea "Sally" Skorniak, 80, of Ashton died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton. The Rev. Larry Coulter will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a 7 p.m. vigil.
Memorials are suggested to Ashton EMTs or the donor's choice.
Peters Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Skorniak was born Oct. 16, 1921, on the family farm north of Ashton to Leo and Stephanie (Fredrick) Wojtalewicz. She was educated at District 33 Sherman County rural school and St. Francis Parochial School.
She married
Edward J. Skorniak on Nov. 24, 1941, in Ashton. The couple farmed near Paplin and later moved to Ashton. In 1946, they returned to the farm until 1955 when they moved back to Ashton. She worked as a cook at Lonowski's Cafe in Ashton for several years.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed polka music, dances, playing cards, crossword puzzles, watching TV and having company.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and daughter-in-law, Robert and Judy Skorniak of Loup City and Andrew Skorniak of Brule; two grandchildren and a sister, Ellen Mostek of Loup City.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Skorniak, three infant sons, David, Kenny and Jim Skorniak, two grandchildren, an infant sister, Evelyn Wojtalewicz, and two brothers, Hubert and Albin Wojtalewicz.
