Marie Tieman
ST. EDWARD -- Marie J. Tieman, 74, of St. Edward died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Presbyterian Church in St. Edward. The Rev. Tom Henstock will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in St. Edward.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Mrs. Tieman was born Dec. 1, 1927, at St. Edward to Walter and Elizabeth (Voight) Zimmerman. She was baptized at United Methodist Church in St. Edward on April 1, 1934. She attended elementary school at Woodville Boone County School District 59 near St. Edward and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1945.
She married
Elmer W. Tieman on June 2, 1946, at the Methodist Church in St. Edward. The couple lived in and around the St. Edward area. In 1958, they moved to the Skeedee Area where they farmed until 1968 when they moved to St. Edward.
She was a member of United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward and belonged to their women's group. She was also a member of Piecing Pals Quilting Club, Early Hour Extension Club and was involved at Beaver Valley Senior Care Center in St. Edward. She painted and wallpapered for people around the area. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Tim Reardon of St. Edward and Joyce and Robert Parker of Columbus; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Nancy Tieman of Beatrice; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Maine and Lawrence Choyeski of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Margaret Choyeski and Mildred Tourtillott, and a brother, Donald Zimmerman.
Marie Sandberg
92, Retired business owner
PEQUOT LAKES, Minn. -- Marie Sandberg, 92, of Pequot Lakes, Minn., died March 19, 2002, in Brainerd, Minn.
Services were March 23 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes, Minn. The Rev. Kermit Youngdale officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Mrs. Sandberg was born March 15, 1910, at Wagner, S.D., to Daniel and Hannah (Swanson) Nolan. She was raised and educated in the Wagner area.
She married
Tom Sandberg on Aug. 29, 1930, in Willmar, Minn. The couple owned and operated movie theaters in several towns and also ran a resort in Park Rapids, Minn. After their retirement, they moved to the Pequot Lakes, Minn., area, where they lived during the summer. They spent their winters in Bonita Springs, Fla. Her husband died in 1992.
She was a member of Eastern Star and Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes, Minn. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Arlynn and Harold Herboldt of Nisswa, Minn.; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters, Florence Culp of Elkhart, Ind., and Dorothy Finwall of Grand Island; and a brother, Kenneth Nolan of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, Lawrence, Leonard and John, and a sister, Lena Nolan.
Raymond Callahan
Raymond E. Callahan, 60, of Grand Island died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln as the result of a heart attack.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m.
Following the services, Mr. Callahan will be cremated. Private family burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Evelyn Hatcher
Evelyn L. Hatcher, 78, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Shirley Johnson
Shirley A. Johnson, 69, of Grand Island died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Mrs. Johnson's body was cremated, and services will be at a later date.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at Kleine Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends throughout the afternoon and evening.
Mrs. Johnson was born May 26, 1932, in Grand Island to Woodrow and Mildred (Clay) Omer. She received her education in the Grand Island school system and married
her childhood sweetheart, James "Jimmy" Johnson June 26, 1948, in Grand Island.
They moved to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1972, where she purchased the Lady Marden retail women's clothing store.
She enjoyed working with the public and had concern for others. She was a member of the Christian faith, enjoyed camping and working with crafts, and loved animals, especially her two dogs, Buffy and Tutu. She also collected dolls.
Survivors include her husband, "Jimmy" Johnson of Grand Island; one daughter, Vicky McKinney of Grand Island; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kathy Johnson of Judsonia, Ark.; one adopted son and his wife, Albert and Mary Beaver of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Patricia Vernon of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy, and one step grandson.
Van Wrenn Jr.
Van C. Wrenn Jr., 80, of Grand Island died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Ray Schroeder with officiate. Private burial will be prior to the service in First Presbyterian Church Columbarium.
There will be no visitation.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to Hall County Red Cross Chapter or the church.
Mr. Wrenn was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Portland, Ore., to Van C. Sr. and Priscilla (Combs) Wrenn. He grew up and graduated from high school in St. Paul, Minn. He attended Iowa State University and received his civil engineering degree. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in the South Pacific during World War II.
He married
Lorayne Davis on Dec. 8, 1943, in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple lived in Grand Island. He was co-owner of V.C. Wrenn and Son Co. and continued in the construction and real estate business.
He was an active volunteer for the Red Cross, serving the Hall County Chapter as a fire responder and a worldwide disaster volunteer. He spent five weeks in New York City following the Sept. 11 disaster. He was honored by the Hall County Chapter as the Julia Petersen Volunteer of the Year. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Gene Gosch of Kearney, Linda and Chuck Pohlman of Norfolk, Jane and Rod Gangwish of Shelton and Sara and Rob Mitchell of Omaha; a son and daughter-in-law, Van and Cindy Wrenn of Omaha; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Monier of LaQuinta, Calif.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Hansen and Priscilla Yount.
Esther Bergland
ELYRIA -- Esther Bergland, 89, of Elyria died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare Nursing Home in Sargent.
Services are pending with Ord Memorial Chapel.
Hannelore Bolander
DANNEBROG -- Hannelore Bolander, 71, of Dannebrog died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Resurrection Catholic Church in Grand Island with the Rev. James C. Schmitt officiating.
A wake service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Private burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Winner, S.D.
Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Bolander was born Feb. 5, 1940, in Stratsund, Mecklenburg, Germany, to Wilhelm and Elizabeth M. (Magdaline) Geigenberger. She graduated from high school and attended a business college in Germany.
She met Donald P. Bolander while he was stationed with the U.S. Armed Forces in Germany. They were married
May 23, 1959, in Idar-Oberstein, Germany.
After arriving in the United States, they lived in Winner, S.D., until May 1967, when the family relocated to Grand Island. She and other friends formed a group known as the "German Club." They had a very special bond and received their U.S. citizenship together. The family moved to Dannebrog in August of 1973.
She worked for J.C. Penney's for 21 years in South Dakota and Grand Island as a catalog sales associate. She was a member of the Catholic church, the "German Club, " liked to crochet, played accordion and was a gifted interior decorator.
Survivors include her husband, Donald, of Dannebrog; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Lori Bolander of Blair, Ronald and Teresa Bolander of Dannebrog and Brent and Donna Bolander of Fort Riley, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, Rolf and Miya Geigenberger of Pinneberg, Germany.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, James Richard.*
