Lawrence Meyer
83, World War II veteran
Lawrence F. Meyer, 83, of, Grand Island died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at his home.
Services will be at 1 p.m., with a family prayer service at 12:45 p.m., Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Martin Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens at Hastings.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or Lutheran Church in Campbell.
Mr. Meyer was born Nov. 17, 1918, to Fred and Sophie (Nitzel) Meyer in Campbell. He grew up in Campbell and attended Campbell rural school. As a youth he worked as a hired hand in farming.
He married
Vera Iola Christensen in 1941 in North Platte. He entered the U.S. Army on June 28, 1941, serving with the 67th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, and in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was honorably discharged on August 3, 1945.
After his discharge, the couple lived near North Platte, where they farmed. He later went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad as a grinder.
He married
Myrna Bell Kennedy on March 3, 1975, in Kearney. They lived in Grand Island. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1983.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include four sons, Larry Meyer of the Cayman Islands, Gary Meyer of Atchison, Kan., Roger Meyer of Omaha and Lonnie Meyer of Grand Island; one daughter, Beverly Tull of Omaha; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Fredrick Meyer of Omaha; and five sisters, Bessie Mercier of Grant, Esther Smalley of Campbell, Margaret Schlasser of Gibbon, Elsie Rippen of Kearney, and Neva Parks of Campbell.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Beulah Muirhead
Beulah I. Muirhead, 90, of Grand Island, died Saturday, April 13, 2002, at Wedgewood Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Curtis Holzworth will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Association.
Clarence Petzoldt
76, Milk delivery man and School custodian
Clarence H. Petzoldt, 76, of Grand Island, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jack Eske officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kleine Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 4 to 5 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church.
Mr. Petzoldt was born May 23, 1925, in Merrick County to Henry J. and Ella (Mettenbrink) Petzoldt. After attending Merrick County and Hall County rural schools, he transported milk from 1941 to 1972.
He married
Eleanor Dibbern in Grand Island on Jan. 16, 1949. From 1974 until his retirement in 1990, he worked as a custodian at Jefferson Elementary School in Grand Island.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order Of Eagles. He enjoyed playing cards and watching TV.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Roger and Laura of Marquette and Gary of Grand Island; two brothers, Lester of Grand Island and Ray of Hastings; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by one infant brother.
Barbara Jones
52, Human resource manager
ROCA -- Barbara Jones, 52, of Roca died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Lincoln. The Rev. Dan Safarik will officiate. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Mason City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at Roper and Sons Mortuary, 4300 O Street in Lincoln and one hour prior to service time at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Capital Humane Society or Bethel School in Guatemala, care of St. Mark United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Jones was born Jan. 17, 1950, in Loup City to Joseph Rathgeb and Wilna (McCleery) Turner. She was a human resource manager for the State of Nebraska.
She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Phi Beta Kappa Honorary.
She enjoyed gardening and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles.
Survivors include her husband, Allan Jones of Roca; two stepdaughters, Hillary Jones of Beatrice and Channing Jones of Atlanta; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Bob Vujovich of Minneapolis, Joan and Bob Price of Papillion, Jan and Jesse Leazer of Calhoun, Ga., and Sue Krug of Frederick, Md.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jim and Julie Turner of Broken Bow and Bill Turner of New Jersey; and an adopted mother, Edith Turner of Mason City.
She was preceded in death by her adopted father, John Austin Turner and brother Charles Turner.
Maynard Bosle
OMAHA -- Maynard D. Bosle, 67, of Omaha died Friday, April 12, 2002, in Omaha.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Westcenter Chapel in Omaha. Anne Marie Aita will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park with military honors by Millard American Legion No. 374 and VFW No. 8334.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Westcenter Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Henry Doorly Zoo.
Mr. Bosle was born Dec. 28, 1934, in Litchfield to Charles and Mabel (Boe) Bosle.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; three daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Jim Desmond of Eagan, Minn., Renee and Mark DeMay of Sioux City, Iowa, and Julie and Lee Coe of Omaha; two sisters, Marian Koepp of Grand Island and Mavis Reiter of Wood River; one brother, Lyman Bosle of Hastings, and five grandchildren.
Daniel Schiley
AXTELL -- Daniel "Danny" Schiley, 30, of Bethphage Campus in Axtell, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Bethphage Zion Chapel in Axtell. The Revs. Harold Kurtenbach and John Gosswein will officiate.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to service time at the Bethphage Zion Chapel. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home. There will be a wake service at 7 p.m.
Further visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Tuesday at Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster, South Dakota. Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's cemetery in Lily, South Dakota with the Rev. John Garvey officiating.
Memorials are suggested to Bethphage.
Mr. Schiley was born Aug. 11, 1971, in Scottsbluff to David J. and Ardis F. (Coyne) Schiley. They moved to Grand Island in 1973, and at age 12, he moved to Bethphage Campus in Axtell.
He enjoyed eating cake and pie and drinking pop, especially root beer. He worked at the Bethphage Workshop on garbage detail, enjoyed being with his family and being pulled in the wagon behind the lawn mower. He enjoyed all dogs and named them all "Lucky, " and enjoyed "golden oldies" music.
He was a member of the Catholic faith and attended Zion Chapel in Axtell.
Survivors include his mother of Grand Island; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tech. Sgt. Paul and Shelly Schiley of the U.S. Air Force in Korea, and Pat Schiley of Grand Island; one sister and brother-in-law, Kimberly and Philip Bader of St. Paul; and grandmother, Evelyn Coyne of Aberdeen, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his father.
