Edward Placek
CHICOPEE, Mass. -- Edward Placek, 79, of Chicopee, Mass., formerly of Loup City, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Chicopee Rest Home in Chicopee.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Cremation will follow the service.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City, and from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. vigil.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the family.
Mr. Placek was born Sept. 13, 1922, in Sherman County to Stephen and Helen (Kraus) Placek. He grew up and attended school in the Sherman County area. He was a farmhand in Sherman County and also a construction worker.
Survivors include two sisters and a brother-in-law, Evangeline Damratowski of Loup City and Magdalene and Robert Palu of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond.
Freida Curtis
Freida E. Curtis, 90, of Grand Island died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at her home.
Services are pending at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Donald O'Brien Jr.
Donald E. O'Brien Jr., 51, of Grand Island died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Church. The Rev. Donald E. Larmore will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Wood River.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday with a 7 p.m. vigil at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. O'Brien was born May 24, 1950, in Grand Island to Donald and Donna (Hackbart) O'Brien. He grew up in the Shelton area. He attended District 35 School and Shelton High School. He farmed with his father.
He married
Delores Brom-wich on Aug. 19, 1992, in Grand Island.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Mike Lyons of Grand Island; three sons, Donald L. of Kenesaw, Timothy of Heike, Germany, and LeRoy of Hastings; four grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Judy of Shelton, Douglas of Lexington and Danny and Kelly of Grand Island; and six sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosemary and Frank Sherman of Overton, Kathy and Myron Manning of Shelton, Edith and Lonnie Mattison of Amherst, Rachelle and Reggie Zulkoski of Seattle, Wash., Joan and Daniel O'Brien of Plattsmouth and Donna and Karl Bruner of Shelton.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother and an infant sister.
Jeffrey Robertson
Jeffrey S. Robertson, 29, of Grand Island died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at his home from natural causes.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Warriner will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Robertson was born Oct. 2, 1972, in Grand Island to Richard and Sheila (Dexter) Robertson. He grew up in Grand Island and attended Grand Island Public Schools.
He worked as a driver for Grand Island Express. He had been in recovery for three years and had just received his three-year medallion from his sister.
He was a member of Abundant Life Christian Center. He enjoyed restoring his old military Jeep, Nebraska football, fishing and Nascar racing.
Survivors include his mother; a sister, Barbara Mendoza, grandmother, Phyllis Korth and step grandmother, Camelia J. Robertson, all of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, Donald L. Dexter and William A. and Barbara L. Robertson.
Glenn Butler
SARGENT -- Glenn M. Butler, 81, of Sargent died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to Weissert Church of God, Sargent Public Library or the donor's favorite charity.
Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Butler was born July 17, 1920, on the family homestead in Sargent to Oliver B. and Florence (Roe) Butler. He farmed the family homestead all his life.
He was a member of Weissert Church of God. He enjoyed his family history and spent many hours researching his genealogy. He also enjoyed traveling and had visited most of the 50 states. He took a trip to England in 1995, sightseeing and visiting towns and churches where his ancestors lived in the 1700s. He also enjoyed visiting and caring for the elderly.
Survivors include two nieces, Kay Seed and husband Darold of Port Angeles, Wash., and Elaine Shields and husband Mike of Palmer, Alaska.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil and Dale, and two sisters, Fern Horne and Lillian Snyder.
Branigun Bredthauer
Branigun A. Bredthauer, infant son of Aaron Bredthauer and Kimberly Nejezchleb of Grand Island, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Joel Schroeder officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Branigun was born May 18, 2001, to Aaron Bredthauer and Kimberly Nejezchleb at Grand Island.
Survivors include his mother and father of Grand Island; maternal grandparents, Orville and Sharon Davidson of York; maternal grandmother, Sandra Bryant of Grand Island; maternal great-grandparents, Melvin and Phyllis Dey of Gresham; paternal grandparents, Larry and Cathy Bredthauer of Grand Island; paternal great-grandmother, Clairus Stelling of Grand Island; two sisters, Tabitha Rogers of Hordville and Shyanna Alderson of Grand Island; and three brothers, Creighton, Halston and Jamison Nejezchleb, all of Deweese.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harold and Elise Barge; and maternal great-grandparents, Louis and Maxine Davidson and Ciral Rhodes.
Orville Gosda
Orville E. Gosda, 74, of Grand Island died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare Park Place.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kleine Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dominic Pecoraro will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Gosda was born May 3, 1927, in Hall County to Adolph and Ethel (Brugh) Gosda. He attended District 30 school and graduated from Grand Island Senior High.
On Nov. 21, 1950, he married
Laura B. Johnson. The couple lived on a farm. Mrs. Gosda died in 1976. Mr. Gosda worked at the Ordnance Plant on the line making bombs. He also worked at Monforts and as a school janitor.
Mr. Gosda was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
He enjoyed planting trees, gardening and participating in nursing home activities.
Survivors include two sisters, Alice Gosda of Topeka, Kan., and Gladys Williams of San Jose, Calif.; and two brothers, Clarence Gosda of Montebello, Calif., and Claude Gosda of Inavale.
