Emanuel Suhr
85, Retired Home Builder, Welder
Emanuel "Fritz" Suhr, 85, of Grand Island, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at the St. Francis Skilled Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Kleine Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Pat Moore will officiate. Burial with military rites will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice.
Mr. Suhr was born April 13, 1916, at Beaver Crossing to Frank and Minnie (Nuyjahr) Suhr. He grew up and received his education in Utica. He left school after the eighth grade to help on the family farm.
He married
Marion Marget in 1939. He joined the Army in 1942 and after the service moved to Grand Island. He worked for Diamond Engineering Co. for over 25 years. Later he was in construction and built homes. In 1972 he started Larry's Welding of Grand Island and worked there until his retirement in 1985.
He married
Betty Scarborough on April 13, 1988.
He enjoyed traveling, fishing, watching sports and being with his family. He was a member of the American Legion in Grand Island.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Grand Island; one son, Larry of Grand Island; one sister, Viola Farris of Grand Island; one stepson, Arnie Thurlow of Tucson, Ariz.; two stepdaughters, Marlene Anderson of Grand Island and Carolyn Dillon of Bassett; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lewis; two sisters, Alfreida and Evelyn; and his first wife, Marion.
Ruth Vieth
Ruth Vieth, 78, of Grand Island, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at the Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. John D. Russell will officiate. Cremation will follow the service. Private burial will be at a later date at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kleine Funeral Home.
Mrs. Vieth was born April 8, 1923, at Dickens to Leo and Anastasia (Wasia) Kotschwar. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Upon her graduation from high school she taught in rural schools for two years.
She married
Robert H. Vieth at Alhambra, Calif., on Sept. 26, 1943. She and her husband farmed east of Grand Island in Merrick County until their retirement when they moved to Grand Island. She served on the school board of Northwest High School after moving back to Nebraska.
She was a devoted Husker football fan and enjoyed camping, fishing and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Sandy of Cairo and Gary of Honolulu, Hawaii; one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Jerry Lammers of Pleasanton; two brothers, Kent and Stanley "Jiggs" Kotschwar; three sisters, Jackie Boehm, LaVerna Ely and Phyllis Traphagan; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
Mildred Clark
ST. EDWARD -- Mildred V. Clark, 98, of St. Edward, formerly of Randolph, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at the Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Randolph. The Rev. Sharon Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in the Randolph Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Shayrell Cox
ARCADIA -- Shayrell M. Cox, 65, of Arcadia, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Arcadia United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Brian will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcadia City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Arcadia Rescue Unit. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Eileen Redler
ALBION -- Eileen R. Redler, 80, of Albion, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion. The Rev. Frank Baumert will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion with a 7 p.m. rosary service.
Marie Kuzelka
BRAINARD -- Marie H. Kuzelka, 88, of Brainard died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at David Place in David City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard. The Rev. Matthew Eickhoff will officiate. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity cemetery in Brainard. A rosary service will be held Wednesday at the church.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Holesovsky Mortuary in Brainard and one hour prior to the rosary at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Kuzelka was born May 23, 1913, at Bee to Anton and Ludmila (Hain) Soukup. She graduated from Seward High School. Later, she taught in the Seward County rural schools.
She married
Frank A. Kuzelka on May 28, 1934, in Bee. The couple lived in the Brainard area where she was a homemaker
She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and enjoyed painting, working on ceramics, gardening and flowers.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Theresa Kuzelka of Grand Island, Loren and Eileen Kuzelka of Lincoln and Allen and Linda Kuzelka of Hastings; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Bruce Rezac and LaVonne and Larry Behne of Brainard; five sisters, Helen Kral of Lincoln, Georgia Polacek of David City, Lillian Pavel of David City, Betty Duffek of Anchorage, Alaska, and Arlene Morrissey of Lincoln; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; five brothers; and two grandchildren.
Dolores Maxson
BEATRICE -- Dolores Maxson, 76, of Beatrice, formerly of North Loup, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at her home in Beatrice.
Services are pending at the Ord Memorial Chapel.
Gerald Pokorney
LINCOLN -- Gerald D. Pokorney, 61, of Lincoln died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Lincoln. The Rev. Joseph Nemec will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn cemetery in Grand Island.
There will be a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Butherus Maser and Love Funeral Home in Lincoln. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Pokorney was born March 17, 1940, in Grand Island. He was a journeyman ironworker and served as a Third Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy from July of 1958 through June of 1963.
He was a member of the St. Teresa's Catholic Church, the American Legion Post No. 3 and the Iron Worker's Union Local No. 21.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Lincoln; two daughters and son-in-law Jodie and Shawn Durbin of Lincoln and Julie Pokorney of Lincoln; one son, Jerry Pokorney of Lincoln; two brothers, Jack Pokorney of Bloomington, Ill., and Jim Pokorney of Lincoln; two sisters, Janice Christensen of Lincoln and Joan Royer of Papillion; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Richard Goettsch
Richard Dale Goettsch, 75, of Grand Island died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Park Place Nursing Home.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
