"Whitey" Lemburg
56, Truck Driver
ALDA -- Hobart E. "Whitey" Lemburg, 56, of Alda died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Lakeview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. The Rev. Rose Bartleson will officiate. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Lemburg was born on Aug. 11, 1943, in Wood River to Carson and Charlotte (Buswell) Lemburg. He grew up in Wood River and attended Wood River schools. He worked for area farmers for several years.
He married
Sylvia Casares in 1964 in Grand Island. He continued working for farmers and at the Co-op in Wood River. He also worked at the Ordinance Plant in Alda for a few years.
He married
Karla Gartin in October 1980 in Wood River. The couple lived in Grand Island where he worked for Bosselman's as a mechanic before working for T&L; trucking until his health forced him to stop. He lived in Alda for the last seven years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Joey of Grand Island and Carson of Alda; two step-sons, Troy and Tally of Alda; four daughters, Eileen Ortiz and Rose Morales, both of Grand Island, Leona Martinez of Omaha and Whitney Lemburg of Alda; three brothers, Owen and Rollan, both of Wood River, and Devon of Las Vegas, Nev., and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.
Shirley Obermiller
ST. PAUL -- Shirley K. Obermiller, 61, of St. Paul died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Larry Lepper will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Obermiller was born on Oct. 20, 1940, at her home in rural Mira Valley to Floyd W. and Viola M. (Cochran) Arnold. She grew up in Mira Valley. She was educated at Mira Valley area county schools and graduated from Ord High School in 1958.
She married
Alvin E. Nelson on Jan. 14, 1960, in York.
She was actively involved in operating the Nelson family farm in Comstock. She also devoted her time to many Comstock community activities.
She was employed by the Production Credit Association and Farm Credit Services in Broken Bow, Ord and Grand Island. She worked most recently in the Grand Island office until her health no longer permitted it.
She married
Harold 'Obie' Obermiller on Nov. 27, 1999, in St. Paul. The couple made their home in St. Paul.
She was involved in the St. Paul Community Choir and St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed fishing, gardening, crocheting, embroidery, painting, reading and making memories with her grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church of St. Paul.
Survivors include her husband; her mother, Viola Arnold of Ord; one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Steve Albert of Natoma, Kan.; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Tressa Nelson of Arcadia; three grandchildren; three stepsons, Jeff Obermiller of Rockyford, Colo., Mike Obermiller of Chelsa, Okla., and Jay Obermiller of St. Paul; three stepdaughters, Cindy Warren of Cody, Wyo., Kristy Poteet of Crete and Kathy Dax of Crestwell, Ore.; nine step grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Pam Arnold of Ord, Donald and Patty Arnold of Ord and Sandy Arnold of Grand Island; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlene and Ken Horner of Olathe, Kan., and Jeanie and Stanley Brill of Lincoln.
Wilfred Spohn
GENOA -- Wilfred J. Spohn, 78, of rural Genoa died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Anson Funeral Chapel in Genoa. The Rev. Robert Nienaber will officiate. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until the service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Spohn was born on Oct. 3, 1923, in Utica to Joseph William and Lillian Eliza (Walters) Spohn. He was educated in Utica, graduating from Utica High School in 1940. He worked on his family farm until 1945, when they moved to the Genoa area.
He married
Betty Jane Buck at St. Rose Catholic Church in Genoa. He worked at the Genoa Locker for almost 10 years, farmed and drove a school bus in Silver Creek for one to two years.
He enjoyed mechanic work, working on tractors and working with cattle.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sally and Delbert Schuette of Denton, Dixie and Russell Hanson of Stromsburg and Kristine and Terry of Bancroft; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Connie Spohn of Columbus; one sister, Caroline Runquist of Osceola; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Louis.
Alfred Schutt
NORFOLK -- Alfred T. "Al" Schutt, 84, of Norfolk died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Norfolk.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Norfolk. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill cemetery at Norfolk. The Rev. Jim Keiter will officiate. Military rites will be by American Legion Post No. 16, VFW Post No. 1644 Norfolk.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Johnson-Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk with a 7 p.m. rosary at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mr. Schutt was born Jan. 16, 1917, at Randolph to Bill and Hanah (Huff) Schutt. He attended grade school in Cedar County and graduated in 1935 from Randolph High School. He served in the military from Aug. 24, 1942, to Oct. 31, 1945, and was stationed in the European Theater during World War II.
He married
Ileen Kessler on June 10, 1947, at Randolph. He farmed in the Randolph and Wayne area until moving to Norfolk in 1965. He worked construction until he semi-retired in 1984, but continued to stay active in construction until 1999.
He was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Mary's Catholic Church, the American Legion and the VFW in Norfolk.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters and sons-in-law, Louise Logston of Polk, Darlene and Steve Watson and Jeanette and Joel Lilavois, all of Plano, Texas, and Rogene and Tom Hoff and Susann and Dale Muehlmeier, all of Norfolk; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Lisa Schutt of Arlington; a sister, Gladys Backer of Randolph; two brothers, Fern and Merle Schutt, both of Randolph, and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law.
Esther Hahle
BOISE, Idaho -- Esther C. Hahle, 92, of Boise, Idaho, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at West Wind Care Center in Boise.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at United Lutheran Church in Hampton. Burial will be in Bethesda Mennonite cemetery in Henderson. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 19 in Augustana Chapel at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Boise.
Higby Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to United Lutheran Church in Hampton or Immanuel Lutheran Church in Boise.
'Rosie' Buettner
Roseanne "Rosie" Buettner, 70, of Grand Island died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at the Madonna Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Kenneth Borowiak will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home, with a rosary at 7 p.m.
