Richard Poole
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- Richard H. Poole, 68, of Council Bluffs died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Jennie Edmudson Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Church of Christ Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Rev. Michael York will officiate. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Post 2.
There will be no visitation. His body was cremated.
Belford-O'Neill Funeral Home in Council Bluffs is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Poole was born on Nov. 8, 1933, at Grand Island to William G. and Christina (Sorganfrei) Poole Sr. He was a 1951 graduate of Grand Island Senior High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He married
Virginia K. Neighbors on Jan. 21, 1961. The couple was married
for 40 years. He previously lived in Grand Island and Lincoln, moving to Council Bluffs in 1963. He was inspector of Nebraska Department of Roads for 37 years, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of VFW Post 737, Eagle Club and Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; two daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Jeff Slayman of Carter Lake, Iowa, and Tracy Pitt of Council Bluffs; a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew "Drew" and Robin of Council Bluffs; eight grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosie and Bob Nelson of Phillips, Elaine and Lee Simms of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Delores Cross of Overland Park, Kan.; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Lucille of Grand Island, Martin and Jan of Scottsbluff and William G. Jr. and Leona of Grand Island.
Doris Varvel
86, Homemaker
SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Doris D. Varvel, 86, of Surprise, Ariz., died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West, Ariz.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Camino Del Sol Funeral Home in Sun City West, Ariz.
Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association in Denver.
Mrs. Varvel was born Dec. 31, 1915, at Cairo. She moved to Arizona in 1999. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West, Ariz.
Survivors include three daughters, Sondra Lord of Louisville, Ky., Genevie Yantis of Huntsville, Ala., and Vicki Aldridge of Sun City West, Ariz.; a son, Chuck Varvel of Waterloo; a stepson, Bill Fine of Fort Myers, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard S. Varvel in 1989.
Larry Wynn
EDGERTON, Mo. -- Larry Dean Wynn, 57, of rural Edgerton, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at North Kansas City Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ridgely Christian Church in Ridgely, Mo. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Mr. Wynn was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Rollins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wynn was born on Aug. 14, 1944, in Warren, Ark., to Chester O. and Mary (Stuard) Wynn.
He attended schools in Arkansas, Florida and Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 30, 1966, to Aug. 10, 1969, in Vietnam and Germany.
He married
Louan Moppin on Dec. 7, 1973. He was employed by Black and Veatch of Kansas City, Mo.
He enjoyed photography, fishing, nature and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Ridgely Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife; stepfather, Glen Tucker of Grand Island; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Thomas and Sandy Tucker of Kearney, Scott and Debbie Tucker of Grand Island and Tracy and Renee' Tucker of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his father during World War II and his mother, who died Feb. 25, 2001.
Ethel Lockhorn
Ethel Lockhorn, 83, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Wedgewood Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Rodney L. Pruss will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant cemetery in Cairo.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church with a 7 p.m. wake.
Apfel-O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Home of Cairo and Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lockhorn was born May 26, 1918, at Cairo to Frank and Etta (Schultz) Meyer. She was educated in the St. Michael area.
She married
Lawrence Lockhorn on Jan. 26, 1937. The couple lived in the Cairo area.
She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ravenna, Altar Society and Bluff Center Thimble Club. She enjoyed her flowers, quilts, crocheting, embroidery and afghans.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce Lockhorn of Grand Island and Robert Lockhorn of North Bend, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister.
Charles Eckstrom
91, Farmer
CENTRAL CITY -- Charles F. Eckstrom, 91, of Central City, formerly of Palmer, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Church of Christ in Palmer. The Rev. Gil Larsen will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Palmer.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home in Palmer.
Mr. Eckstrom was born May 13, 1910, near Palmer to George and Mary (Deertz) Eckstrom. He grew up in the Palmer area and attended District 36 School.
He married
Clara H. Burkhardt in Palmer. The couple lived on a farm near Palmer. He farmed for Mark Lambert and worked part-time for Grand Island Webb Livestock Sale Barn, The Third City Livestock Sale Barn and The Fullerton Livestock Sale Barn. His wife died Sept. 6, 1983. He moved to Central City in 1995, living at Merrick Manor and then moved to Central City Care Center.
He was a member of First Church of Christ in Palmer. He enjoyed farming, going to and working at sales, cattle and horses.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Donna Eckstrom, and a daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Jerry Betts, all of Central City; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Eckstrom of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, Clarice Addison, three brothers, Walter, Irvin and Leonard and a grandchild.
Helen Finn
GREELEY -- Helen Finn, 92, of Greeley died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Greeley Care Home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The Rev. Gerald Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church with a 4 and 7 p.m. rosary.

Kermit Hinze
ALBION -- Kermit Hinze, 91, of Albion died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward.
Services are pending at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
