Broderick Ray Kusek, infant son of Anthony and Steph Kusek of Grand Island, died Feb. 19, 2004, at birth.
Broderick Ray was born at Camp Lester in Okinawa, Japan, where his father is serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Services are pending at Kleine Funeral Home.
Gilbert Anderson
STROMSBURG -- Gilbert B. Anderson, 89, of Stromsburg died Friday, March 5, 2004, at Annie Jeffrey Hospital in Osceola.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg. The Rev. Keith Brozek will officiate.
Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Mr. Anderson was born May 20, 1914, at Stromsburg to Albert O. and Martha (Larson) Anderson.
Survivors of his immediate family include his wife, Evelyne; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Karen Anderson of Blue Hill, and Gary and Maxine Anderson of Lincoln; and a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Bill Pliefke of Osceola.
Roger Beck
CENTRAL CITY -- Roger C. Beck, 76, died March 5, 2004, at his home in rural Central City.
Funeral services are pending with the Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Dorene Nozicka
BROKEN BOW -- Dorene A. Nozicka, 67, of Broken Bow died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow, with the Rev. Todd Philipsen officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Larry Hardy of Thedford and Cindy and Corey Ansbach of Sumner; five sons and two daughters-in-law, Tim Nozicka of Broken Bow, Tom and Crystal Nozicka of Walden, Colo., Clinton Nozicka of Victoria, Texas, Clifford Nozicka of Broken Bow and Dale and Jan Nozicka of Broken Bow; and a brother, Oren Vogt of Rockville.
Edna Schneider
GIBBON -- Edna A. Schneider, 94, of Gibbon died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at the Kearney County Longterm Care Center in Minden.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Fredricksburg Lutheran Church south of Minden, with the Rev. Roy Rasmussen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
No visitation is planned. Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon is in charge of arrangements.
Edna was born Sept. 26, 1909, south of Minden to Edward and Anna (Jensen) Warp.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Bruce Kocher and Charles Schneider.
Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Inez of Gibbon; two daughters, Maxine Noltie of Minden and Jeanette Jones of Gibbon; and a brother, Richard Warp of Tampa, Fla.
Kenneth Thomas
BOELUS -- Kenneth L. Thomas, 67, of Boelus died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Larry Lepper will officiate. Burial will be in the Souleville cemetery in rural Boelus, with military honors by Schipma-Mogensen American Legion Post 201 of Boelus.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Thomas was born June 1, 1936, at Oshkosh to Lloyd and Hazel (Cross) Thomas.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Elaine; his mother, of Grand Island; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jody Lehn and Cindy and Bob Bonczynski, all of Boelus; and a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Carol Thomas of Omaha.
Other survivors include three grandchildren and one brother-in-law, Derald Lyman of Miami, Fla.
At the age of 5, Ken moved with his family to Vancouver, Washington. He received his education and graduated from high school in Vancouver.
He then served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957. Part of his active duty was served in Germany.
On Jan. 17, 1958, he was united in marriage to Elaine Lyman at Grand Island. The couple made their home in Omaha, where he first worked as an over-the-road truck driver. He was then employed by the Lyman-Ritchie Ready Mix Co. as a cement mixer for the cement used in the laying of Interstate 80. He then returned to trucking.
The couple later moved to Boelus, where he first was a cook and later a bartender for the Golden Nugget.
He was a member of the Schipman-Mogensen American Legion Post No. 201 of Boelus.
He loved his family and nature. He enjoyed reading, his dogs and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his father and one son-in-law, Greg Lehn.
Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Research Fund or the family's choice.
George Urich
SCOTIA -- George P. Urich, 83, of Scotia died Friday, March 5, 2004, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. At his request, Mr. Urich was cremated. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on Sept. 9, 1920, to George and Anna Urich.
He was preceded in death by his two wives, Eileen and Rose.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews and his many friends.
He was the youngest of 10 children. His parents were immigrants with German heritage.
George grew up in Scotia and graduated from Scotia High School. He was a clerk in the U.S. Army as well as playing saxophone in a post dance orchestra.
After receiving an honorable discharge, he worked at the Scotia Register for his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. M.G. Williams. He and his wife, Rose, purchased the newspaper in the mid-1970s and ran it until retirement.
He was an active, longtime member of the Scotia Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion, Masonic Lodge and the Scotia United Methodist Church.
