Frances A. Tvrdy
LINCOLN -- Frances A. Trvdy, 91, of Ceresco, died Friday, October 16 at Bryan LGH-West in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Davey, with the Rev. Thomas Kuffel and Rev. Julius Tvrdy officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary and St. Patrick cemetery in Davey. The rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, and visitation is sunday from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. There will be additional visitation one hour before each service at the church.
Svoboda Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary's Building Fund or Ceresco Senior Center.
Mrs. Tvrdy was born on Aug. 4, 1907 in Marysville, Kan., to Anton and Teresa (Major) Zadina. She attended Indian Hills School in the rural Valparaiso area and later attended Ceresco High School.
She married
George E. Tvrdy on July 18, 1932 at Marysville, KS. The couple later farmed in the rural Ceresco area and moved into town in 1968.
Mrs. Tvrdy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Davey and St. Mary's Alter Society, and was an active member of the Ceresco Senior Center.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. and Mary Tvrdy of Ceresco; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lee and Darrell Dey of Grand Island; a sister, Mary Brabeck, of Napa, CA.; two brothers, Tony Zadina of Corvallis, OR., and Ruday Zadina of Chiloquin, OR.; six grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Trvdy was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, and a sister, Rosalie Clements.
Ella Burson
ORD -- Ella Burson, 91, of Huntsville, Ala., died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at the Windsor Nursing Home in Huntsville.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Ord United Methodist Church in Ord. The Rev. Roger Gillming will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Ord United Methodist Church.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Burson was born May 20, 1907, to Adolph J. and Nelie (Martina) Carsrud in Dell Rapids, S.D. They had emigrated from Norway in the 1890s. She moved to Beresford, S.D., at an early age due to the early deaths of both of her parents. She attended grade school and graduated from Beresford High School in 1927. In 1930, she graduated from M' Hospital Nursing School in Sioux Falls, S.D. She was night supervisor in Vermillion, S.D.
She married
Harold Thomas Burson on Dec. 1, 1941, in Dakota City. They spent their early married
life in California where she was a nurse in a Van Nuys hospital until 1943 when they moved to Valley County. They lived on a farm west of Ord. Mr. Burson died Dec. 15, 1990. She then moved to Huntsville to live with her daughter.
She was a member of the Ord United Methodist Church participating in many Circle activities and rummage sales. She also volunteered for numerous American Red Cross blood drives.
Survivors include a daughter, Karol Kapustka of Huntsville; a son, Keith Burson of Peoria, Ill.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a sister and a half brother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, two brothers and a half sister.
Charles Miller
SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Charles E. "Kelly" Miller Jr., 77, of Sioux City, Iowa, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., after heart surgery.
Services were Oct. 10 at St. Boniface Catholic Church. The Rev. Kevin M. Richter officiated. Burial was at the Calvary cemetery Mausoleum in Sioux City with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 175 of Jackson.
Meyers Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Miller was born March 30, 1921, to Charles E. Miller Sr. and Anna (Landaur) Miller on a farm near Petersburg. He was educated at District 18, St. John's Parochial School and Petersburg High School. He volunteered in the U.S. Navy on Sept. 3, 1942, and saw service on sub chasers and landing craft. He was discharged on Dec. 13, 1945.
He married
Esther Fisher on Oct. 15, 1946. He received a diploma from Lincoln Barber School and spent the remainder of his life as a barber in Albion, Sioux City Air Base and Jackson, where he operated his own shop for 43 years.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronald and Leonard and one daughter, Terri (Mrs. Brian) Petersen of Akron, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Verletta Struebing of Central City and Bernice Redler of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Miller.
LeRoy Schwartz
FT. COLLINS, Colo. -- LeRoy H. Schwartz, 84, of Ft. Collins, Colo., formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at Ft. Collins.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schr'der will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Mr. Schwartz was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church.

Mr. Schwartz was born on Sept. 15, 1914, to Otto and Anna (Schultz) Schwartz in Grand Island. He grew up and was educated in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School. He entered the U.S. Army on June 9, 1942, at Ft. Crook serving as a front line interpreter in the 28th Infantry Division of the 112th Regiment Company (known as the Bloody Bucket) in the European Theater. He fought in several major battles including the Battle of the Bulge and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant on Nov. 17, 1945, at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.
He married
Anna May Vang on June 7, 1947, in Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island where he worked for The Grand Island Independent as a pressroom foreman. He retired in 1979 after 46 years at the newspaper.
He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, the Platt Duetsche and the American Legion. His great-grandmother, Anna Stuhr Thomssen, was one of the first settlers to live in Hall County.
Survivors include a son, Howard Schwartz of Ft. Collins; a daughter, Patricia Schwartz of Ft. Collins and a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a grandson and a sister, Lucille Huebner.
Edna Wellsandt
MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho -- Edna Marie Wellsandt, 78, a resident of Mountain Home, Idaho, formerly of Grand Island, died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at the Elmore Memorial Long Term Care Unit in Mountain Home.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Wellsandt was cremated. There will be no visitation.
Gretta Lacy
Gretta Lacy, 94, of Grand Island died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. The Rev. Harry Kurtenbach will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
'Hope' Hunter
DONIPHAN -- Eva "Hope" Hunter, 95, of Doniphan died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Doniphan. The Rev. F. Cole Fowler will officiate. She was cremated. Burial will be in Longmont, Colo. at a later date.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church in Doniphan and Rosedale.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hunter was born May 31, 1903, to Frank and Viva (Brenner) Morrison at Golden, Colo. She grew up and attended school in Manhattan, Kan.
She married
James W. Hunter on Aug. 1, 1931, in Manhattan. After her divorce in 1948, she moved to McCook, where she was a licensed practical nurse at St. Catherine Hospital for 20 years. She retired in 1970.
She was a member of United Methodist Church in Doniphan, United Methodist Women and The Royal Neighbors of America.
Survivors include one son, the Rev. William Hunter of Doniphan; one daughter, Sarah (Mrs. Tom) Gleason of Hawaii; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one brother, Frank B. Morrison of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Viva Frances Hunter; and two sisters, Hazel Sparrow and Floss McNeese.
