Marjorie Liebbe
LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Marjorie (Schleigh) Liebbe, 71, of Lakewood, Colo., formerly of Grand Island, died on Dec. 6, 1998.
Services were in Lakewood, Colo., and Springfield, Mo. Burial was in Springfield, Mo.
Mrs. Liebbe was born on Sept. 20, 1927, in Spalding.
She married
Sylvester Sandman in 1945 at Petersburg.
She married
Bruce Liebbe in 1971. She was a homemaker and former employee at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island. Much of her life was spent in Petersburg and then Grand Island.
Survivors include two sons, Jim of Colorado and Joe of Georgia; two daughters, Judy of Colorado and Kathy of Nebraska; 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mel of Washington and Dan of Nebraska; and two sisters, Rosella of Nebraska and Kay of Oklahoma.
Thelma Rafferty
CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. -- Thelma Rafferty, 84, of Citrus Heights, Calif., formerly of Mason City, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at Manor Care Nursing Home at Citrus Heights.
Services were on Thursday at Price Funeral Chapel in Citrus Heights. George Medlicott officiated.
Mrs. Rafferty was born on Feb. 19, 1914, in a sod house near Mason City to Carl and Thea Knudson. She attended country schools and graduated from Mason City High School at age 16. She attended Kearney State Teachers College and taught at Mount Pleasant rural school.
She married
Vern Rafferty of Wellfleet on June 4, 1933. They lived in Custer County and in the North Platte area. They lived at Petaluma, Calif., during World War II and returned to Custer County after the war.
They moved back to California in 1948. She graduated from Sacramento State University in 1957 and taught at Garfield Elementary for 16 years. They enjoyed traveling in the United States, Europe and Japan.
They designed two new homes, raised fruits and vegetables. Mrs. Rafferty's mother lived with them for many years.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Elwyn of Redding, Calif.; three daughters, Verleen Fisk of Richland, Wash., Corrine Thorp of Folsum, Calif., and Elaine Rietz of Fair Oaks, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alice Staab of Ansley.
Clarice Allely
Clarice A. Allely, 82, of Grand Island died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Wyuka cemetery in Lincoln.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph; one son, Steven R. Allely of Lincoln; two daughters, Karen Sennentz of Kearney and Kathy Allely of Lincoln; five granddaughters; three great-grandsons; one brother, Francis Pinkerton of Lincoln; and one sister, Margaret Henninger of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Arthur Niedfelt
Arthur H. Niedfelt, 69, of Grand Island died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at the St. Francis Medical Center emergency room.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Gretchen Diers will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Niedfelt was born on Nov. 30, 1928, in Merrick County to August and Ella (Eggers) Niedfelt. He was educated at District 28 Milebridge School. After his education, he farmed with his father.
He entered the U.S. Army in March 1951 and served during the Korean War. He was discharged in December 1952.
He married
Mary Lee Peters on Jan. 4, 1953, in Grand Island. Mr. Niedfelt farmed and worked part time at Fonner Park and at Red Rooster.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, the Doniphan American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Amvets, Platt-Duetsche and Eagles Club. He loved to play cards and socialize with his friends.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Terri (Mrs. Warren) Stelk of Olathe, Kan., Wanda (Mrs. Jim Jr.) Gay of Palmer and Joyce (Mrs. Curt) Cooper of Chadron; two sons, Bryan and David Niedfelt, both of Grand Island; 11 grandchildren; his mother, of Grand Island; one brother, Robert Niedfelt of Grand Island; and two sisters, Eloise (Mrs. Charles) Webber of St. Paul and Elizabeth (Mrs. August) Hagenmeister of Phillips.
He was preceded in death by one grandson and his father.
Hulda Schultz
Hulda Schultz, 98, of Grand Island died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Park Place Nursing Center.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Howard Coble
BROKEN BOW -- Lewis Howard Coble, 77, of Broken Bow died Monday, July 13, 1998, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow. Gene Goben and the Rev. Cliff Reynolds will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Arnold Funeral Home is also in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Howard Coble Memorial Fund.
Mr. Coble was born on Feb. 26, 1921, at Broken Bow to John and Ph'be (Rapp) Coble. He attended Pleasant Ridge Rural School through the eighth grade, then went to school in Broken Bow for one year and later left to help his family at home.
He entered the U.S. Army in July 1942. He served with the 80th Division, Company I, under Gen. George Patton and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was discharged in October 1945.
He married
Harriet Engelsgjerd on March 9, 1946, at Salina, Kan. He began his career as a general contractor, specializing in brick buildings, in 1948.
His hobbies included raising cattle on the Coble farm east of Broken Bow.
He was a member of American Legion Post 126, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3576, Broken Bow Elks Lodge 1688, Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, the National 80th Division and Custer Federal Savings and Loan board of directors.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Marlyn of Broken Bow; two sons, Marvin and Gary, both of Broken Bow; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one brother, Gifford Coble of Broken Bow.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold.
Marie Diefenbaugh
LITCHFIELD -- Marie A. Diefenbaugh, 86, of Litchfield died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church in Hazard. The Rev. Dean Hanson will officiate. Burial will be in the Litchfield Cemetery.
Rasmussen Mortuary of Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Donald Hoy
FULLERTON -- Donald A. Hoy, 80, of Fullerton died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Mary McQueen will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Mr. Hoy was born on Sept. 5, 1917, at Nance County to Clarence and Blanch (Maybon) Hoy. He attended rural Nance County schools and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1935.
He worked in Idaho for several years. He returned to Nebraska and worked as a carpenter with his brother. He retired in 1980.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Fullerton Senior Center. He enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include four cousins, Myrle Maybon of Aurora, Fredabelle (Mrs. Max) Swanson and Doris Maybon, both of Fullerton, and Fern (Mrs. Walter) Larson of Genoa.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth.
