Harry Martens
Harry Martens, 80, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, in Cleveland.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Martens was born on Oct. 19, 1918, in rural Hall County to Otto and Lena (Scheel) Martens. He attended District 23 School south of Grand Island.
He married
Helen L. Bengel on Nov. 16, 1952, in Moorhead, Minn. The couple lived in Moorhead until the end of the sugar campaign with American Crystal Sugar Co. They returned to Grand Island for one year, and he worked for the Budweiser Co. They moved to Crookston, Minn., and he worked for American Crystal Sugar Co. as an assistant superintendent, retiring on Dec. 30, 1980 after 28 years of service. They returned to Grand Island in 1981.
He was a member of Wesly United Methodist Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 873 of Crookston, Minn., and Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. He was a member of the Platt-Duetsche Society for 50 years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Allan D. of North Olmsted, Ohio, and Arlen K. of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Theodore Martens of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Willmer and Herbert; and three sisters, Ilo Drier, Doris Hake and Mabel Schultz.
Henry Fischer
BURWELL -- Henry J. "Pat" Fischer, 77, of Burwell died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Burwell. The Rev. Greg Volzke will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Fischer was born on Aug. 23, 1921, at Burwell to John and Elma "Elsie" (Barustoff) Fischer.
He married
Agnes Lukesh on March 5, 1947, in Ord. They farmed after they married. He later worked on road construction and at Rowse Rakes and Alfalfa Mill in Ord.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Lions Club. He enjoyed horses, hunting, fishing, trapping, playing cards and gardening.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Leonard of Seattle and Darrell of Burwell; two daughters, Linda Timmerman of Loveland, Colo., and June (Mrs. Alan) Griebel of Grand Island; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen (Mrs. Felix) Gold of Sheridan, Wyo.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis and Irvin; a grandchild; two sisters; and six brothers.
Fern Goff
ORD -- Fern Goff, 87, of Ord died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ord Christian Church. The Revs. Michael Chase and Jim Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Rebekah Lodge or the family's choice.
Bonnie Keys
ELSMERE -- Bonnie Keys, 66, of rural Elsmere died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at her home, following a long illness with cancer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Elsmere Baptist Church. The Revs. Les Canfield and Jim Mintle will officiate. Burial will be in the Purdum Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials may be directed to the church.
Mrs. Keys was born on April 27, 1932, at Elsmere to Charles and Astrid Giles. She attended Elsmere School and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1948. She taught at Athey School near Elsmere and East Purdum School.
She married
Keith Keys on June 3, 1951, at Elsmere. They ran a ranching operation northwest of Elsmere.
She was a member of the Elsmere General Baptist Church, where she was a pianist, Sunday school teacher, superintendent, church treasurer and Bible school teacher. She was a member of the Elsmere Missionary Society and the Happy Homemakers FCE. She served on the Elsmere school board for 21 years. She enjoyed her yard and flowers.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Kerry of Elsmere; a daughter, Michelle (Mrs. Ken) Staeck of Marysville, Ohio; four grandchildren; a sister, Ruth (Mrs. John) Sullivan of Broken Bow; and two brothers, Charles Giles of Broken Bow and Joe Giles of Ainsworth.
She was preceded in death by an infant son and a brother, George.
Robert McIntyre
CEDAR RAPIDS -- Robert Lester "Bob" McIntyre, 73, of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at Lincoln.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Primrose. The Rev. Mary Avidano will officiate. Burial will be in Dublin cemetery in Primrose.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. McIntyre was born on Oct. 3, 1925, at Primrose to Charles H. and Mary Elizabeth (Kinnier) McIntyre. He was educated at Primrose Public School.
He married
Deloris E. Primrose on Nov. 24, 1944, in Albion. He was a grain farmer and raised livestock. He enjoyed playing cards and Nebraska football.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Primrose, where he served as an elder.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert W. of Scottsdale, Ariz., Rodney H. of Primrose and Randall L. of David City; two daughters, Roxanne (Mrs. Robert Vogt) McIntyre of Hickman and Ronda (Mrs. DeVern Stuthman) McIntyre-Stuthman of Lincoln; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim of Pharr, Texas, and Charles of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Grace Sievers of Lincoln; eight half brothers, Bill, Walt, Dick, Larry, Ted, Alan, Kenny and Doug McIntyre; and five half sisters, Jean Young, Mary Lou Tiango, Eileen Sowokinos, Pat Splitgerber and Kathy Young.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas; and a sister, Mildred.
Leona M. Voboril
GREELEY -- Leona Maria Voboril, 84, of Greeley, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at Greeley Care Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Ralph Steffensmeier will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Primrose.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., with a 3 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. prayer service, Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Visitation also will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Voboril was born on April 25, 1914, at Duncan to Tomas and Anna (Czapla) Liss. She was educated at St. Stanislaus' Parachial School.
She married
Stanley Voboril on April 25, 1933, at Primrose. They lived and farmed southwest of Primrose for 49 years. She moved to Cedar Rapids in 1982 and to Greeley in 1997.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Altar Society, St. Anthony's Catholic Church and Quilters Group in Cedar Rapids and the Women's Legion Auxiliary in Primrose.
Survivors include three sons, James of Greeley, Joseph of Primrose and Larry of Hastings; two daughters, Elaine Voboril of Minnetonka, Minn., and Linda (Mrs. Dr. Gordon) Silver of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Monica Ryan of Hudson, Fla., and Mary Olek of Rochester, N.Y.; and a brother, Frank Liss of Oroville, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandchild, four brothers and two sisters.
Irv Wedeking
AURORA -- Irving Chris Wedeking, 67, of Aurora, former vocational-agriculture instructor at Aurora High School, died suddenly Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Aurora United Methodist Church. The Rev. Peggy Michael-Rush will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mr. Wedeking was born on Sept. 21, 1931, at Ohiowa to Henry and Irene Fern (Waterman) Wedeking. When he was 7 years old, the family moved to Daykin. They moved to a farm four miles south of Daykin in 1945. He graduated from Daykin High School in 1950 and worked at a grocery store and hardware store.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from April 18, 1951, to April 17, 1955. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1960. He moved to Aurora, where he was a vocational-agriculture teacher for 34 years, retiring in 1994.
He married
Ila May Long on Oct. 4, 1951, at Daykin.
He was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, American Vocational Association, Nebraska Vocational Agriculture Association, FFA Alumni and Aurora Chamber of Commerce. He was a lifetime member of the Nebraska State Education Association and the National Education Association.
He was a member of the District 4-R school board and had been re-elected to his second term. He received the National Association of Agriculture Educators' outstanding service citation on Dec. 10 at the annual conference in Louisiana.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jeff of Lincoln and Gregg of Wheaton, Minn.; one daughter, Beth (Mrs. Greg) Stark of College Station, Texas; four grandchildren; and one sister, Gloria (Mrs. Wilferd) Dake of Beatrice.
