Norman Peters
SEWARD -- Norman W. Peters, 81, of Seward, formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Tabitha or American Cancer Society.
Mr. Peters was born on April 4, 1917, at Alden, Kan., to Mark and Pearl (Sowers) Peters. He grew up and was educated in Hutchinson, Kan. He began working for Hutchinson Rainbo Bread in 1935.
He married
Layle Robinson on June 5, 1937, at Wichita, Kan. They lived at Hutchinson, where he worked for Rainbo Bread. He entered the U.S. Army on April 18, 1945, served during World War II and was discharged on Dec. 17, 1945. He re-entered the U.S. Army on Sept. 16, 1950, and was discharged on Nov. 21, 1950.
After his discharge, they lived at Wichita. They moved to Hays, Kan., in 1952 and to Hutchinson, Kan., in 1953. He was promoted to general sales manager in 1957. They moved to Grand Island in 1958. He retired in 1980.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge at Hutchinson, Kan., and a 48-year member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael of Lincoln and Stewart of New Orleans; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one stepbrother.
He was preceded in death by one son, Gary; and one grandson.
'Lucy' Kanouff
SALT LAKE CITY -- M. Lucille "Lucy" Kanouff, 86, of Salt Lake City, formerly of Grand Island, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Salt Lake City.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas Dowd will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Kanouff was born on June 11, 1912, in Shelton to William and Eliza Reeder. She was educated in the Denman School.
She married
Francis L. "Lindy" Kanouff on March 30, 1959, at St. Paul. The couple lived in Grand Island, Salt Lake City, Rochester, Minn., and then moved back to Salt Lake City in 1973.
Survivors include her husband.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
'Alec' Rhodes
Floyd E. "Alec" Rhodes, 71, of 912 S. Clark died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cedarview cemetery in Doniphan.
Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Rhodes was born on June 14, 1927, at Hastings to Joseph and Della Mae (Richardson) Rhodes. He grew up and was educated in Doniphan.
He entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War from 1954 to 1957. He returned to Nebraska and lived in the Hastings and Holdrege area. He also spent some time in the Washington and Oregon areas.
He was a past member of the American Legion in Doniphan.
Survivors include two sisters, Jackie Marks of Auburn, Wash., and Shirley Gehrke of Hillsboro, Ore.; and a niece and caregiver, Judy Seufert of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Darlene Schwieger and Delphine Claussen; and one brother, Jim.
Joseph Chramosta
RAVENNA -- Joseph F. Chramosta, 88, of Ravenna died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Jan Smutny will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery in Ravenna.
A Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.
Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Chramosta was born on March 10, 1910, in Buffalo County to Joseph F. and Mary A. (Kleimot) Chramosta. He was educated in rural Buffalo County.
He married
Catherine Habe on Aug. 20, 1959, at Ravenna. The couple lived in Ravenna. Mr. Chramosta worked for the Buffalo County Department of Roads and farmed near Ravenna.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society.
Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Helen Chramosta and Mary Chramosta, both of Ravenna; and one brother, Charles H. Chramosta of Ravenna.
Mildred Curlo
St. Paul -- Mildred E. Curlo, 85, formerly of Ashton, died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis' Catholic Church in Ashton with the Rev. Larry Coulter officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis' Catholic cemetery in Ashton.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service. Further visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Curlo was born on April 8, 1913, at Ashton to Cornelius and Elnoria (Jasnoch) Peters. She was raised in Ashton and attended St. Francis Parochial School. She moved to Omaha, where she worked.
She married
Frank Curlo on April 16, 1941, in Ashton. They lived on a farm in the Ashton area. They retired and moved into Ashton in 1974. She entered Heritage Living Center in August 1990.
Her hobbies included gardening, crafts and flowers. She was a member of St. Francis' Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She was very active in the church.
Survivors include three sons, Don of Boelus, Jim of Ashton and Tom of Grant; two daughters, Renee (Mrs. Don) Gl' of Wood River and Sharon (Mrs. Dan) Astrones of Grand Island; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marie Stingley of Cheyenne, Wyo.
Her husband died on Nov. 26, 1990. She also was preceded in death by one granddaughter and three brothers, Ed, Lawrence and Albin Peters.
Jay Nelson
ORD -- Jay Nelson, 82, of Ord died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Ord. The Rev. Jim Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City cemetery with military rites by the Ord Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
