Reba Collins
ELMHURST, Ill. - Reba C. Collins, 88, of Elmhurst, Ill., died June 21, 1998, at Elmhurst.
Memorial services will be on July 18 at St. Markis Episcopal Church in Mesa.
Hallowell and James Funeral Home in Countryside, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Collins was born on Oct. 4, 1909, at Grand Island.
She married
Harry L. Collins. He preceded her in death.
She lived in Grand Island for nearly 70 years before moving to Mesa, Ariz., in 1980. She lived in Mesa until 1992, when she moved to the Chicago area.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Collins of Burr Ridge, Ill.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
James Stuart
DARRINGTON, Wash. - James Thomas Stuart, 81, of Darrington, Wash., died June 7, 1998, at Darrington.
Services were on June 13 in the Darrington Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Church of the Transfiguration in Darrington or to the Darrington Horse Owners Association.
Weller Funeral Home in Arlington, Wash., was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Stuart was born on Dec. 18, 1916, at Lincoln to Virgil and Mamie (Flannigan) Stuart. He and his family moved to Aurora, where he completed his schooling. He worked in Idaho on ranches and at other jobs. After serving two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps camps at Bayard, he served with the 26th Infantry Division, 3rd Army, during World War II. He received several medals including the Bronze Star. After his discharge from the Army in 1945, he was employed by the Burlington Railroad.
He married
Luetta Hochreiter Sawyer on June 30, 1947. The family later moved to Grand Island, where he worked in construction. In 1963, the family moved to Darrington, Wash., where he worked for several logging outfits. He was injured on June 6, 1972, and was no longer able to work. His wife died on Feb. 27, 1986.
He was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration of Darrington, an honorary member of the Darrington Horse Owners Association and a member of Arlington Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1561.
Survivors include three sons, Randy A. Stuart of Darrington, Thomas K. Stuart of Marysville and DeVon Stuart of Lincoln; one daughter, Judy (Mrs. Harold) Wagner of Darrington; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris (Mrs. Wayne) Rieflin of Doniphan and Florence (Mrs. Orville) Roush of Grand Island.
Sam Willman
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Sam H. Willman, 78, of Virginia Beach, Va., died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at a hospital in Virginia Beach following an extended illness.
Services were on June 22 at Waters Funeral Chapel in Summersville, W.Va. Burial was in Dotson-Simpson Cemetery.
He was the son of the late Henry Jr. and Katherine (Schmidt) Willman of Grand Island.
Survivors include three sons, Richard David of Germany, Kermit Henry of Virginia Beach and Samuel Mark of Ravana, Ohio; a daughter, K. Lee Tucker of Summersville, W.Va.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Neljean, in 1973; and a son, Kenneth James, in 1976.
Corinne Arzt
Corinne Emma Arzt, 87, of Grand Island, formerly of North Platte, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at Tiffany Square in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Joel Schr'der will officiate.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Floral Lawns Memorial Garden in North Platte.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family greeting friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at the All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Additional visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Adams-Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte. The family will be greeting friends in North Platte from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday.
Mrs. Arzt was born Aug. 16, 1916, near Stromsburg and Polk, to Roy and Ellen (Ostlund) Branting.
Her husband, George W. Arzt, preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1976.
Survivors of her immediate family include her daughter, Karen of Grand Island; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Harlan and Lorraine Branting of North Platte, and Elnor Branting of Denver; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Evelyn Huntington of North Platte, and Bernice and Louie Pappas of Lakewood, Colo.
Also surviving is special friend and caregiver, Kathryn Holmberg of Grand Island.
Mrs. Arzt was raised on a family farm south of North Platte. She graduated from North Platte Senior High School in 1934. She then went to work for North Platte Plumbing and Heating as their bookkeeper.
She married
George W. Arzt on Jan. 24, 1944, in Denver. She lived in Denver while her husband served in the military and worked at Denver Public Power as a bookkeeper. The couple later lived in Durham, N.C., before Mr. Arzt was sent to the European Theater, at which time she moved back to Denver. Following Mr. Arzt's military service, the couple moved to North Platte where Mrs. Arzt was a bookkeeper at Northwestern Public Service.
She moved to Grand Island to be with her daughter in 1987.
She was a longtime supporter of the Parent Teachers Association serving as treasurer for many years. She was a leader in various capacities with Camp Fire USA.
She loved to travel both abroad and in the United States and enjoyed spending time at Estes Park. She was an avid hunter and was on a women's blue rock team.
While in Grand Island, she was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and the Royal Neighbors of American.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Arzt was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Branting.
Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Sandra 'Sandi' Monk
Sandra "Sandi" R. Monk, 51, of Grand Island died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Gary Schulte will officiate.
Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Pearl Tondreau
Pearl E. Tondreau, 83, of Loup City, formerly of Mason City, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at Rose Lane Nursing Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow.
Burial will be in the Mason City Cemetery.
Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Maud Wells
SARGENT -- Maud E. Wells, 95, of Sargent, formerly of Taylor, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare in Sargent.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Don Schauda will officiate.
Burial will be in the Mount Hope cemetery in Sargent.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
