ST. PAUL -- Florence J. Nekoliczak, 80, of St. Paul died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at the Howard County Community Hospital.
Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul.
'Pete' Bliven
LEXINGTON -- Darrell A. "Pete" Bliven, 76, of Lexington died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Elwood Care Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ann's Parish Center in Lexington with the Rev. Don Buhrman officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann's cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be at a wake service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
Don Ingram
OMAHA -- Don Ingram, 83, of Omaha, formerly of Aurora, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, in an Omaha hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora. The Rev. John Keefe will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, Sunday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby; and two sons, Ron and Russ, both of Omaha.
Walter Meyer
Walter A. Meyer Sr., 82, of Grand Island died Monday, May 4, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Revs. Tom Ryan and Mike Stutzman will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday with a Scripture wake service and rosary at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Meyer was born on Dec. 24, 1915, at Palmyra to Conrad and Mary (Buckholtz) Meyer. He lived in Colorado from 1922 until 1927, when he moved to Grand Island, where he grew up and was educated.
He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps on Oct. 24, 1941, served with the 135th Army Air Force in the East Indies, Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea and Papua and was discharged on Oct. 4, 1945, with the rank of sergeant.
He married
Erlene Stauss on Sept. 17, 1946, at Marysville, Kan. He worked in construction from 1949 to 1950, when they moved to Grand Island. He began working for Con Agra in 1951. He was assistant elevator superintendent and retired in 1975 after 24 years of service.
He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and the Eagles.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Walter Meyer Jr. of Wheatland, Wyo., John Meyer of Orofino, Idaho, and Frank Meyer of Grand Island; six daughters, Barbara Kucera, Sharon Cemper, June Quaife and Lisa Meyer, all of Grand Island, Jean Shoopman of Ogallala and Suzanne Stutzman of Phoenix; 21 grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 21 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four grandchildren; four brothers, John, Clarence, Harvey and Melvin; and three sisters, Ethel, Evelyn and Viola.
Elsie Sanders
Elsie Sanders, 89, of Grand Island died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. David Bendickson will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Stolley Park Church of Christ or Immune Deficiency Foundation.
Mrs. Sanders was born on May 15, 1908, at St. Paul to Stewart and Stacia (Myers) Ware. She graduated from St. Paul High School in 1926. She went to work for Central Power Co. in December 1926 and stayed with the company until 1937.
She married
Ira J. Sanders of Boelus on Oct. 20, 1937, in St. Paul. They lived in Boelus from 1937 to 1942, when they moved to Grand Island. Mr. Sanders died on Dec. 11, 1997.
Mrs. Sanders was a member of the Stolley Park Church of Christ. Mr. and Mrs. Sanders were among the 14 founding members of the Church of Christ of Grand Island. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past fall.
She enjoyed fishing and spending time at Lake Ericson.
Survivors include one son, Dan Sanders of Columbus; and one grandson.
Virgil Willits
Virgil "Logan" Willits, 30, of Grand Island died Monday, May 4, 1998, as a result of a car and bicycle accident in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Cremation will follow the services. Burial of the ashes will be at a later date in the Clarks Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Willits was born on Nov. 5, 1967, at Cadillac, Mich., to Vance and Elena (Crisci) Willits. He grew up and was educated in Silver Creek, Madison and Genoa.
He served in the Nebraska Army National Guard. Mr. Willits enjoyed working with electronics.
Survivors include his father, Vance Willits of Grand Island; his mother, Elena Franklin of Greenfield, Ind.; three sisters, Luisa Crisci Willits and Jenny Willits, both of Houston, and Janet Franklin of Greenfield, Ind.; and two grandparents, Virginia Willits of Grand Island and Virgil Willits of Clarks.
Albert Gehrman
MERNA - Albert C. Gehrman, 90, formerly of Merna, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, in Arizona.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Tom Coll will officiate. Burial will be in Cliff cemetery west of Merna.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Merna Rescue Unit.
Arnold Miller
DANNEBROG - Arnold Miller, 83, of Dannebrog died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services are pending with Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
George Schulz
BURWELL - George W.J. Schulz, 94, of Burwell died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cottonwood cemetery in Burwell. The Rev. Greg Volzke will officiate.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church or the Burwell Volunteer Fire Department.
Gregory Jasper
COLUMBUS - Gregory A. Jasper, 49, of Columbus died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church in Columbus. The Rev. Anthony Espinosa will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure's cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post 84 of the American Legion Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus.
Mr. Jasper was born on June 12, 1948, at St. Mary's Hospital in Columbus to John and Claudia (Placzek) Jasper. He graduated from St. Bonaventure's School in 1966. He attended Wayne State College.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He married
Georgia Drum on July 17, 1968, in Columbus. He worked for Behlen Manufacturing, Chief Building Manufacturing in Grand Island, Farm Bureau Insurance of Columbus and was a supervisor for Appleton Manufacturing Co.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3704, American Legion Hartman Post 84 and St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and coaching soccer and baseball.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Amy (Mrs. Curt) Crinklaw of Omaha; two sons, Aaron Jasper of Lincoln and Anthony Jasper of Columbus; one grandson; two sisters, Joyce (Mrs. Jerry) Heins of Silver Creek and Jennifer (Mrs. Clayton) Hollman of Atlantic, Iowa; and four brothers, Charles and Randy, both of Columbus, James of Eagan, Minn., and Patrick of Westminster, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
