Ricky Kensinger
EVERETT, Wash. - Ricky Kensinger, 49, of Everett, Wash., formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, May 4, 1998.
Among survivors are his wife, Bonnie of Everett; his parents, Leslie and Nancy Kensinger of Everett, formerly of Grand Island; and three brothers, Klase, Ron and Tim.
Nellie Applegarth
BROKEN BOW -- Nellie V. Applegarth, 96, of Broken Bow, formerly of Comstock, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent. Fred Cram will officiate. Burial will be in the Douglas Grove cemetery at Comstock.
There will be no visitation. The casket will be open for viewing before services.
Memorials are suggested at the familyšs choice.
Mrs. Applegarth was born on Sept. 17, 1902, near Comstock to John and Emily (Olson) Brodine. She grew up near Comstock and attended rural schools.
She married
David LeRoy Applegarth on May 26, 1920, at Broken Bow. They lived in the Comstock and Arcadia area. Mrs. Applegarth was a homemaker. Mr. Applegarth died in 1976.
Mrs. Applegarth enjoyed gardening, needlework and quilting. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church at Broken Bow.
Survivors include one son, Laurence of Fullerton, Colo.; two daughters, Evalyn (Mrs. Orby) Cooper of Gillette, Wyo., and Vera Thalman of Broken Bow; 22 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 41 great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Edna Brown of Iowa, Violet Benkman of Florida and Mabel Redfearn of Oregon.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Alvin and Howard; one daughter, Sylvia; a grandchild; two great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers.
Michael Bauer
PLEASANTON -- Michael "Mick" Bauer, 57, of Pleasanton died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at his home.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical Free Church in Pleasanton. The Rev. Brian Fugleberg will officiate. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Bauer was born on June 12, 1941, at Gordon to George and Frances (Sterling) Bauer. He grew up in Kearney. He graduated from Kearney High School in 1959. He also attended Kearney State College.
He was a sales representative for Alber Engineering.
He married
Paulette Hueftle on July 1, 1962, in Kearney.
He married
Marcella Bates on May 5, 1979, in Battie, Kan.
He was a past member of the Kearney Elks Lodge and an avid outdoorsman. He loved flying, fishing, hunting, football and photography.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella; one son, Brent of Pleasanton; two stepsons, Jeff Jacobs of Phoenix and Andy Jacobs of Lincoln; two daughters, Michelle Wiese of Bancroft, Iowa, and Kristen Mueller of Scribner; three stepdaughters, Pam Stoner of Lincoln, Becky Spike of David City and Jana Mathis of Greenleaf, Kan.; five grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; his mother, of Kearney; and one sister, Terri Hirschbrunner of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by one stepson and his father.
Nola Kliewer
ELDORADO -- Nola Kay Kliewer, 61, of Eldorado died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in a Kearney hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Aurora United Methodist Church. The Revs. Peggy Michael-Bush and Mark Dunham will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. The casket will be closed at the church.
Mrs. Kliewer was born on May 19, 1937, in Hamilton County to Charles and Lucille (Black) Jeffers. She grew up in the Stockham area. She attended Verona School near Stockham, other country schools and Aurora public schools.
She married
Isaac "Ike" Kliewer on Jan. 8, 1953, on a farm near Stockham. They had lived in Eldorado since 1954. She worked as a waitress in various restaurants in Hamilton County. She also worked in a day-care facility and had worked at the Grandview Cafe for almost 20 years.
She had been affiliated with the Prairie Gem Church and enjoyed camping and golfing.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Kim and Tom, both of Eldorado; one daughter, Cindy (Mrs. Don) Tessman of Aurora; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mildred Hammel
AURORA -- Mildred Ethel Hammel, 76, of Aurora died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Aurora Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Jim Garfield will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mrs. Hammel was born on Dec. 17, 1922, in Fillmore County to Dewey and Lola (Churchill) Fessler. She graduated from Geneva High School and worked as a waitress until her marriage.
She married
Earl Hammel on April 29, 1944, at Marysville, Kan. They lived in Harvard until 1950, when they moved to Grand Island. They moved to Aurora in 1956. Mr. Hammel died on Aug. 17, 1970.
Mrs. Hammel worked as a nurse's aide at the Aurora Hospital, Lakeview Nursing Home in Grand Island and Larson's Nursing Home in Aurora. She later did baby-sitting for several families in Aurora.
She was a member of the Aurora Assembly of God Church.
She loved camping at her cabin at Sherman Lake and enjoyed traveling and gambling trips to Reno, Nev.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Ferguson of Aurora and Pamela Jones of Mount Gilead, N.C.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Duane Fessler of Missouri; and one sister, Marian Harmon of California.
Irving Nelson
AURORA -- Irving Nelson, 85, of Aurora died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Aurora First Christian Church with the Rev. Jay Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Survivors include his wife, Marian of Aurora; one son, Ron of Tacoma, Wash.; one daughter, Karen Tessman of Sutton; five granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.
Bessie Taylor
CAIRO -- Bessie A. Taylor, 88, of Cairo died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Lakeview Nursing Center.
Services are pending with Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo.
Merwie Gaston
MINDEN -- Merwie E. Gaston, 98, of Minden died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at Minden.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Minden. The Rev. Manick Samuel will officiate. Burial will be in the Norman Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Gaston was born on Oct. 29, 1900, in Webster County to Isaac William and Margaret Rosamond (Ricker) Edson. When she was 13 years old, her mother died, leaving Mrs. Gaston to help care for her four younger brothers and sisters, ranging in age from 9 months to 11 years.
The family lived in Red Cloud, Liberty in Kearney County and Oxford and Juniata. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1919 as valedictorian. She began teaching directly out of high school.
She married
Thomas Gaston on Oct. 29, 1920, at Juniata. They lived at Norman, where her husband was a rural mail carrier. Mr. Gaston died on July 19, 1946, and Mrs. Gaston moved to Minden. She received a bachelor of arts in education from Kearney State College at the age of 62. She taught elementary school in Norman for many years, retiring in 1964.
She was active in the Federated Women's Club, Retired Teachers, Kappa Delta Pi, a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary and past noble grand of the Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary (Mrs. Spencer) Moll of Seattle; two sons, Robert of Hooper and Russell of Broken Bow; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one sister, Margaret Edson of Long-Term Care in Minden.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, an infant, Ann, and Barbara; one son, Thomas Jr.; and four brothers, Russell Edson, Lorimer Edson, Winfield Edson and Will Edson.
