KENSINGTON - John Wily Garrett Tuthill, 84, died Tuesday at Exeter Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Evanston, Ill., the son of Richard and Caroline (Garrett) Tuthill. He earned a degree in chemistry from Princeton University and graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1943. He completed medical residencies at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and at Boston City Hospital before serving at St. Mary's Hospital in London, England, for six months and returning to Boston Children's Hospital. He served as lieutenant in the Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was assigned to the 22nd Marine Division and saw combat in the Pacific at Okinawa in 1945. He served in in China after V-J Day. He was raised in Evanston, Ill., and lived in Exeter for a year before moving to Kensington in 1955. He taught pediatric courses at Harvard Medical School. He worked as head physician at a hospital in Ganado, Ariz., with Project HOPE and later worked as a pediatrician in Exeter, where he made house calls throughout the Seacoast Region, retiring in 1975. He then worked as medical director at Phillips Exeter Academy, where he had previously been associate medical director. He retired as medical director in 1986. He was active with the Kensington School Board, the Rockingham Choral Society, the Greater Piscataqua Charitable Foundation, New Hampshire Parents and Friends of Lesbian and Gays, Spaulding Youth Center and the Rockingham Land Trust. He was an avid sailor and loved small boat racing and cruising. Survivors include his wife, Nora (Machado) Tuthill; four sons, John Tuthill of Acworth, Andrew Tuthill of Etna, Alan Tuthill of Kensington and William Tuthill of Albany, N.Y.; and four grandsons. Calling hours will not be held. Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Christ Church Episcopal, 43 Pine St., Exeter. Burial will be held privately. Robert J. McVicar, NORTHWOOD

NORTHWOOD - Robert J. McVicar, 81, of Bow Lake Road, died Tuesday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born in Montreal, the son of James and Isabella (Dunn) McVicar. He lived in New Hampshire for more than 30 years. McVicar served with the Canadian Air Force during World War II and in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, serving with the military for a total of nine years. He enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage and bingo. He loved the spirit of the "Old West" and his cowboy hat. Survivors include a daughter, Ginger McHugh of Northwood; two stepsons, Brian Morse of Hudson and Charles Boulba of North Carolina; a stepdaughter, Frances Egan of Boston; two sisters; two grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. His wife, Jane (Ness) McVicar, died in 1998; a son, Keith McVicar, also died previously. Services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in the chapel at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Smyth Road, Manchester. Phaneuf Funeral Home in Manchester is in charge of the arrangements.

SODDY DAISY, Tenn. - Andrew Ansaldo Jr., 59, formerly of Concord, died Tuesday in Soddy Daisy, Tenn. He was born in Concord, the son of Andrew and Catherine (Slattery) Ansaldo. He attended St. John's High School, where he was active in baseball, basketball and football. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Providence College in 1965. He was inducted into the Bishop Brady Hall of Fame in 1995. Ansaldo lived in Soddy Daisy, Tenn., for many years and summered at his family cottage on Lake Winnisquam. He worked as plant manager in the textile business, recently for Hunt Nissan in Chattanooga, Tenn. He was an active participant in the Sprague Electric Community Shows. He loved to golf and bowl. Survivors include his wife, Linea (Anderson) Ansaldo; a son, Joseph Ansaldo of LaGrange, Ga.; a daughter, Leslie Ansaldo of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Patrica Kallen of Putnam, Conn.; a grandson; and an aunt, uncle, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home, 50 S. Main St., Concord. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 72 S. Main St., Concord. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Concord. FRANKLIN - David Thomas Fournier, 47, of Prospect Street died yesterday at his home after a sudden illness. He was born in Manchester, the son of Philip and Irene (Stylianos) Fournier. He lived in Andover, Mass., before moving to Franklin in 1986. Fournier attended Andover High School and St. John Prep. He later attended technical school. He was a self-employed electrical engineer and worked for various Massachusetts and New Hampshire companies. He loved the outdoors and his dog. He was of Roman Catholic faith. Survivors include his parents; a sister, Denise Monroe of North Andover, Mass., a niece and a nephew. A brother, Philip Fournier, died in 1992. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home in Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Franklin. Carl William Pratt, 92, formerly of Contoocook, died Wednesday at the Mariner Health Care Center in Methuen, Mass. He was born in Haverhill, Mass., and was formerly of West Boxford, Mass. He attended schools in Haverhill, Mass. Pratt was a member of the Second Congregational Church and the grange in West Boxford, Mass. He worked as the custodial supervisor for the Masconomet (Mass.) Regional High School for 20 years. Survivors include a son, Richard Pratt of Contoocook; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. His wife, Dorothy (Cole) Pratt, died previously. FRANKLIN - Jane Marie Gilbert, 61, died Tuesday at the Hospice House in Concord after a short illness. She was born in Franklin, the daughter of Charles and Jeannette (Bernier) Twombly. She attended Franklin schools. She lived in Franklin for most of her life and wintered in Zephyrhills, Fla., for many years. She worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone for many years and later worked in area factories, including Stanley Tool and Webster Valve Co. in Franklin. She was an animal rights activist and supported local humane societies and animal shelters. She was formerly active with the Girl Scouts in Franklin. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Franklin. She enjoyed traveling. Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Leach of Danbury; a sister, Betty Greemore of Montague, Mass.; two aunts, Florence Edmunds of Franklin and Elsie Bernier of Lebanon, Maine; a grandson; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and cousins. Her father died in 1990, and her mother died in 2002. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road, Tilton. The Rev. Scott Fetter, pastor of the Baptist Church of Franklin, will officiate. Burial will be held in the spring at the family lot in Franklin Cemetery in Franklin. SALISBURY - Maurice "Moe" Dion, of Sutton Road died Saturday at home after a period of failing health. He was born in Franklin, the son of Walter and Cecile Dion. He lived most of his life in Northfield. He loved birds, animals and music. Survivors include a brother, Roger Dion of Northfield; two sister, Irene Reagan of Tilton and Gloria Silver of Salisbury; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will not be held. ALTON - Joseph L. Duran died Tuesday. He was formerly of Winchester, Mass. He worked for the Bank of Boston for 48 years. Duran was a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Alton. PENACOOK - Rose Townes-Smith, 77, of Broadcove Road died Monday at home. She was born in Concord, the daughter of Louis and Josephine (Morris) Whiting. She was a lifelong resident of Concord. She worked as a mental health worker for New Hampshire State Hospital for more than 25 years. She enjoyed knitting and the outdoors. Survivors include a daughter, Bernadette Sargent of Penacook; a brother, Arthur Whiting of Penacook; two sisters, Arlene Week and Shirley Himes; three granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Bernard Townes; two sons, Bruce Townes and William Townes; and two brothers, George Whiting Sr. and Robert Whiting, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. BOSCAWEN - Doris E. Harbour, 85, of Fessenden Drive died yesterday at Mountain Ridge Center in Franklin. She was born in Springfield, Mass., the daughter of Harry and Mary (Twigler) Wykes. She moved to Tilton in 1950 and had lived in Boscawen since 1969. Harbour worked as Blue Cross Blue Shield in Concord for 10 years before retiring in 1979. Survivors include two sons, Mark Harbour of Boscawen and Stephen Willey of London; three daughters, Kay Lowell of Webster, Cynthia Bodah of Sanbornton and Meredith Hansen of Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Edwin Harbour, died in 1997; and four brothers, Stanley Wykes, Gordon Wykes, Harry Wykes Jr. and Howard Wykes, died previously.
