Stanley "Dee-Dee" Mancini, PEMBROKE

PEMBROKE - Stanley "Dee-Dee" Mancini Jr., 67, of North Pembroke Road, died Saturday at Concord Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born in Concord, the son of the late Stanley and Evelyn (Gagnon) Mancini Sr. He was a graduate of St. John's High School. He had served in the New Hampshire Army National Guard in Concord from 1954 to 1960. Mancini had worked many years in the asphalt construction business throughout New Hampshire. He retired in 2000 after 25 years with the state's Department of Transportation as an asphalt inspector. He was predeceased by his wife, Sandra (McKenzie) Mancini, who died in 1961. Mancini is survived by a son, Donald Mancini of Belmont; three daughters, Tina Campbell of Concord, Trisha McCoo of Pembroke and Tammy Oneill of Penacook; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Patnaude of Concord and one brother, James Mancini of Chandler, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St., Concord. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.The Rev. William Keeffe will officiate. Burial will follow in Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord.

LOUDON - Graveside services for John Rice, 90, who died Jan. 9 at Merrimack County Nursing Home, will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Loudon. Bennett Funeral Home in Concord is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth L. Carson, NORTHFIELD

NORTHFIELD - Ruth L. Carson, 76, of Cross Mill Road, died yesterday at Concord Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Loudon, the daughter of Jerimiah and Lucy (Bailey) Blake. She worked delivering papers for the Concord Monitor for many years and as a housekeeper for many families. Carson lived in London before moving to Northfield in 1976. She attended the Alexandria Methodist Church and was active with their Women's Aid. She enjoyed gardening, hiking and climbing mountains. Survivors include two sons, Gene Carson of Penacook and Fred Carson of Northfield; a daughter, Charity Patten of Alexandria; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her husband, Alfred, died in 1960. Two sons, Jere Carson and David Carson; four brothers, Claude Blake, Clyde Blake, Orin Blake and Fred Blake; and two sisters, Carolyn Opie and Bernice Akerman, also died previously. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Loudon Ridge Cemetery. The Rev. Henry Frost, pastor of Loudon Center Free Will Baptist Church, will officiate. Perkins Funeral Home in Pittsfield is in charge of the arrangements.

Louis N. Fichtner Jr., PITTSFIELD

PITTSFIELD - Louis N. Fichtner Jr., 80, died May 11 at Concord Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Boston, the son of Louis Sr. and Sarah (Jordan) Fichtner. He lived in Boxborough, Mass., before moving to Pittsfield, wher e he lived for the past 13 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and survived the May 11, 1945 bombing of the USS Bunker Hill Carrier Force. Fichtner was a lifetime member of the VFW Pittsfield Post 4029 until it closed. He then became a member of the Concord Post. He was active with the USS Bunker Hill Alumni. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Dorothy (Brown) Whitaker Fichtner; four stepsons, Jack Whitaker, Robert Whitaker, Brian Whitaker and Gary Whitaker; two stepdaughters, Darlene Whitaker and Valerie Whitaker; a sister, Gladys Johanson of Pinellas Park, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. Services were held privately. Perkins Funeral Home in Pittsfield is in charge of the arrangements.

H. Lucien Groleau, HILL

HILL - Honore Lucien Groleau, 81, of Mountain View Drive, died yesterday at home. He was born in Laconia, the son of Honore and Angelina (Garneau) Groleau. He was raised and lived in Laconia for many years. He attended schools in Laconia. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and in the South Pacific for the invasion of the Marshall Islands, Guam and Okinawa. He worked as a foreman for Scott and Williams Manufacturing Company in Laconia for 30 years. Groleau was a member of the Marine Corps League of Belknap County, the VFW in Laconia and the American Legion Post 1 in Laconia. He loved music, especially playing the saxophone. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Geraldine (Wheeler) Groleau of Hill; five sons, Lucien Groleau of Meredith, John Groleau of Ashland, Robert Groleau of Franklin and Gary Groleau and James Groleau, both of Laconia; two daughters, Beverly Azzara of Franklin and Jane Groleau of Hill; two brothers, Reginald Groleau and Norman Groleau, both of Laconia; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. A reception will follow at 11 a.m. at Alan's Restaurant, North Main Street, Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Franklin VNA, 75 Chestnut St., Franklin 03235; or to the Veterans Memorial Fund, c/o Jim Carroll, P.O. Box 1700, Laconia 03247. Affordable Funeral and Cremation Services Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.

Shirley M. Schulze, FRANKLIN

FRANKLIN - Graveside services for Shirley M. (Durham) Schulze, 66, of New Hampton Road, who died Feb. 1, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Union Cemetery in Laconia. The Rev. Earle A. Heselton, WARNER

WARNER - Earle A. Heselton, 88, of Old Main Road, died Monday at Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen. He was born in Henniker, the son of Jeptha and Annie (Sargent) Heselton. He lived in Henniker and Bradford before moving to Warner in 1954. He lived at Merrimack County Nursing Home for the past year. Heselton worked for Henniker Crutch Factory, as a machinist for Food Machinery Corp. in Contoocook for 16 years and for Samuel Eastman Co. in East Concord for 14 years before retiring. He was a farmer, worked in sawmills and was a carpenter and craftsman. He built his home in Warner. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. Survivors include five cousins, Harry Heselton and Annie Whipple, both of Warner, and Clara Digilio, Robert Bagley and Helen Lynam, all of Bradford. His wife, Alice (Guimond) Heselton, died in 1995; and a brother, Harold Heselton, died previously. Graveside services will be held privately at Sunny Plain Cemetery in Bradford. The Rev. Dr. J. Jermain Bodine, pastor of the United Church of Warner, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Chadwick Funeral Service in New London is in charge of the arrangements.

David R. Bernatas, HILLSBORO

HILLSBORO - David R. Bernatas, 46, of Hillsboro, died Friday at Hospice House in Concord. He was born in Manchester, the son of Algert and Hope (Reilly) Bernatas. He lived in Washington before moving to Hillsboro in 1998. He worked as a technical representative for Layne Christensen Company in Dracut, Mass. He was a member of the Washington Snowmobile Club in Washington. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Donna (McArthur) Bernatas, of Hillsboro; two daughters, Sarah Bernatas and Kate Bernatas, both of Hillsboro; one brother, Dan Bernatas, of Amherst; three sisters, Susan Bernatas of Boise, Idaho, Nanc Briot of Bolder City, Nev., and Trisha Hebert of Alameda, Calif.; and his mother, Hope (Reilly) Bernatas of Idaho. Calling hours are today from 6 to 8 pm. in the Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 32 School St., Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the Holt Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Hillsboro. The Rev. Christopher Stage, pastor of the United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to C.R.V.N.A. Hospice House, P.O. Box 1797, Concord, 03302.
