PEMBROKE - Eleanor E. Cummings, 94, died Monday after a short illness.
She was born in Leona, N.Y., the daughter of John and Lydia (Harper) Cummings. She worked on her father's farm throughout high school, then attended Bucknell University where she earned her degree in education. She later received her master's degree from Columbia University. She began her teaching career at Drake College and Bucknell University and then taught communications at the Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City. When the school opened a branch in Montclair, N.J., she moved from Manhattan to Montclair, where she spent the next 51 years. She retired to Pembroke about five years ago.
She had been a member of the Montclair Women's Club, American Association of University Women and the American Teacher's Association. She spent nearly all her time after retirement in community service, such as teaching Sunday school, volunteering for the Missionary Aid Society and Meals on Wheels, working with disadvantaged youths, and assisting with low-income tax preparation. She was a member of the Methodist church.
She is predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Mader.
She is survived by a sister, Agnes Simmons of Cape Coral, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Suncook United Methodist Church, Main Street, with the Rev. Randall Scheri officiating. Calling hours will be at the church from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service.
Burial services will take place Monday, Oct. 11, in the Harmony Cemetery, Milton, Pa.

PEMBROKE - Eleanor E. Cummings, 94, died after a brief illness on Monday at the home of Jack and Judy Mader, her nephew and his wife.
The daughter of John and Lydia (Harper) Cummings, she was born in Leona, N.Y., grew up in rural Milton, Penn., and graduated from Milton High School.
Single all her life, she worked on her father's farm through high school, then attended Bucknell University, where she earned a degree in education. Later, she received master's degree from Columbia University.
She began her teaching career at Drake College and Bucknell University, and she taught communications at the prestigious Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City. When the school opened a branch in Montclair, N.J., she moved from Manhattan to Montclair, where she spent the next 51 years.
She retired to Pembroke about five years ago.

Friends and relatives may visit with the family at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will take place on Oct. 11 in the Harmony Cemetery, Milton, Penn.

Janet N. E. Macomber, NEW CASTLE

NEW CASTLE - Janet Macomber, 95, formerly of Wolfeboro, died Wednesday.
She was predeceased by Charles Clark Macomber.
She is survived by a son, George Macomber of Boston; a daughter, Gail Deaver of Westport, Conn.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at the New Castle Congregational Church on Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999.

Henry K. Fitts, NEW LONDON

NEW LONDON - Henry K. Fitts, 84, died yesterday at the Clough Center in New London after a short illness.
He was born in Jamaica Plain, Mass., the son of Henry and Caroline (Stevens) Fitts. He grew up in Winchester, Mass., graduated from Harvard College where he was a diver on the swim team and received his master's degree in English from Columbia Teacher's College.
After teaching at the New York Institute for the Education of the Blind in New York City and at the Morristown School in Morristown, N.J., he returned to Winchester High School where he taught English until his retirement in 1974.
He then moved with his wife to Sunapee. He was a member and former warden of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, a member and former treasurer of the Lake Sunapee Yacht Club and played trombone with the Newport Opera House Band. He also volunteered at the Clough Center. He enjoyed playing piano and trombone and in his earlier years was an avid tennis player, sailor and skier. For 20 years, his weekly column "Winnowings" has appeared in the Newport Argus Champion.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Alice Grant and Dorothy Forbush; and a brother, David Fitts.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Fitts of New London; a son, William Fitts of Cornish Flat; a daughter, Rebecca Rylander of Arlington, Va.; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and a niece and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 1, at 11:30 a.m. in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 15 Gould Road, with the Rev. Frederick Stecker IV officiating.
A private burial will be held in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester, Mass., at a later date.

Sidney P. Basha, 57, of 51 Jackson Street, died Wednesday at Concord Hospital after a short illness.
He was born in Peterborough, the son of Ronald and Doris (Rockwell) Basha of Zephyrhill, Fla. He attended local schools and Appleton Academy in New Ipswich. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was employed as a truck driver most of his life, most recently working for Wal-Mart. He was a fourth Degree Knight and former grand knight of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 112. He was also a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
He is survived by his parents; his wife, Louise Basha of Concord; a son, Christopher Basha of Goffstown; three daughters, Katherine Rienstra of Concord, Deborah Clougherty of Concord, and Danielle Marie Basha of Concord; three grandchildren; two brothers, Stephen Basha of Atlanta, Ga., and Ronald Basha of Milford; two sisters, Margaret Basha of Rindge, and Beatrice Grobeck of Auston, Ark.; and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 S. Main St.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 180 Loudon Road, with the Rev. Florent Bilodeau officiating.
Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

BREVARD, N.C. - Prudence Ayers Rundlett, 81, a relative of area residents, died Sept. 8 at the Brian Center.
She was born in Concord, the daughter of Benjamin Kimball Ayers and Irene Warner Ayers. After graduating from Concord High School, she went to Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
She had been an active member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Brevard, N.C., prior to belonging to the Church of the Good Shepherd in Cashiers, N.C. She also served on the board of St. Andrew's By-The-Lake at Lake Toxaway, N.C. She was active in garden clubs at Lake Toxaway and Brevard.
She is survived by her husband, Brewster; a daughter, Penelope of Cincinnati; two sons, Bradford of Herndon, Va., and Geoffrey of Hendersonville, Va.; and a sister, Virginia Ayers Mattlage of Hanover.
A memorial service was held earlier in North Carolina. Donations may be made to the Episcopal Church or a local charity.
Kathleen Desmarais, DUNBARTON

DUNBARTON - Kathleen Desmarais, 89, of Grapevine Road, died Wednesday at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester.
She was born in County Leitrim, Ireland, daughter of William and Bridget (Cassells) McKeon. She immigrated to Concord in 1928 and was a member of St. Peter's Church before moving to Dunbarton 20 years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Desmarais.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Desmarais of Dunbarton, and Carol Claughton of Sunderland, Mass.; two sons, Fred Desmarais of Manchester, and James Desmarais of Plymouth; nine grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours and services will be private.

Michael S. Schwinger, 17, of Ridge Road, died Sunday at his home.
He was born in Utica, N.Y., the son of Robert and Karen (Atkinson) Schwinger.
He was a senior at Summit School in Amherst. He had attended McLachin School in Ontario, Canada, and Mt. Lakes, N.J., schools. He loved the outdoors, marine biology, art and pottery.
He is survived by his parents and three sisters, Dr. Debra Kramer of Miami, Fla., Meredith Schwinger of Concord and Lisa Schwinger of Tampa, Fla.
Memorial services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Jones officiating. The family will receive friends at the church after the service.

EAST WAKEFIELD - Willie H. Moody Jr., 71, of Dearborn Road, died Wednesday at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
He was a native of Worcester, Mass., and attended local schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was employed by Moore Business Forms in Dover before retiring. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 8 in Dover.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Joan Moody; and by his second wife, Marjorie Moody.
He is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Briggs of Rochester, Cheryl Carey of Ohio, and Sharon Moody of Rochester; two sons, Steven Moody of Rochester, and William Moody of Fla.; three stepdaughters, Cynthia Mitchell of Concord, Susan Cutting of Phippsburg, Maine, and Penny Stewart of Barnstead; two stepsons, Ruste Parent of Dracut, Mass., and Jeffrey Parent of Concord; and seven grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held tomorrow from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 S. Main St., Concord.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. John Johnson officiating.
Burial will be at Dunbarton Center Cemetery, Dunbarton.
