DOVER - Kay E. Davis, 60, of Three Rivers Farm Road died Sunday at her home after a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Keene, the daughter of Omer and Sybil (Harper) Croteau.
She was a graduate of Keene High School and University of New Hampshire. She received her masters degree in secondary education from Keene State College and did graduate work in forestry at the University of New Hampshire.
She worked in Concord with the Department of Health and Human Services, where she had been a social worker and a supervisor. She also worked with the Head Start program and was an adjudicator for the State of New Hampshire Disability Determination Service.
She was a communicant of St. Charles Church in Dover.
She was predeceased by her father and a son, Nathan Davis, in 1993.
Survivors include her husband of 27 years, John Davis; her mother in East Swanzey; a stepdaughter, Brierly Brown of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a stepson, Brenton Davis of Epping; two step-grandchildren; four brothers, John Croteau of Bedford, Gale Croteau of New Milford, Conn., Scott Croteau of Swanzey and Tom Croteau of Dover; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Bernard's Church in Keene with the Rev. John Hurley officiating. A burial will be after the Mass in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Schuyler Holbrook, SOUTH STRAFFORD, Vt.

SOUTH STRAFFORD, Vt. - Schuyler M. Holbrook, 99, died Monday at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital in Lebanon.
He was born in Laconia, the son of Percy and Alice (Barlow) Holbrook.
He attended school in Concord.
He served an apprenticeship at the Boston & Maine Railroad Repair Shop and was later employed at a fire sprinkler company in Laconia. In 1925, he became the machinist for the chemical engineering department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. He retired in 1965.
He was predeceased by his wife, Emma (Strovink) Holbrook; and three brothers, Percy Holbrook, Stuart Holbrook and Paul Holbrook.
Survivors include a nephew, Richard Holbrook of South Strafford, Vt.; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and great-grandnieces.
A memorial service will be held Aug. 16 at 1 p.m. at the New Hampton Public Library. For more information, call Richard Holbrook at 802-765-4924.

Howard Humphrey Jr., LOUDON

LOUDON - Howard S. Humphrey Jr., 71, of Hoover Circle, died Tuesday at Concord Hospital.
He was born in Peterborough, the son of Howard Sr. and Edna (McGrath) Humphrey. He lived in the Loudon-Concord area for two years, previously living in Antrim.
He graduated from Antrim High School in 1947 and attended the University of New Hampshire.
He served with the New Hampshire National Guard for many years.
He worked as an engineer for various companies, including the Abbott Co. in Antrim, the Kingsbury Machine Tool Corp. in Keene, Anderson-Nichols in Concord and New Hampshire Ball Bearing Inc. in Peterborough. He also worked as a drafting teacher at Milford High School and the Milford and Cheshire Vocational Center in Keene. He also served with the Antrim Fire Department for more than 35 years.
He was a member of the Waverly Lodge No. 59, Order of New Hampshire Odd Fellows in Antrim, a former grand patriarch of New Hampshire and a former member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Bennington.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene (Sargent) Humphrey of Loudon; a son, Thomas Humphrey of New Ipswich; a daughter, Nancy Linder of Penacook; two stepdaughters, Peggy Sheldon of Pembroke and Paula Mancuso of Manchester; a granddaughter; two grandsons; 10 step-grandchildren; his former wife, Peg (Sanborn) Humphrey of Exeter; an uncle; and cousins.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home, 42 Washington St., Penacook. David Sheldon, justice of the peace, will officiate.
Interment will be held tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. at the Maplewood Cemetery in Antrim. The Rev. Richard Smith, pastor of St. Patrick's Church in Bennington, will officiate. The Waverly Lodge No. 59 will also conduct services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

K. Starkey Vaeni, 81, of Holly Street in Concord, died Tuesday at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester due to respiratory failure after a brief illness.
He was born in Newport, the son of Arthur and Mary Vaeni. He had lived in Concord for the past 65 years.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a cooking instructor for the WACS in Iowa.
He was a chef and restaurant owner, opening the Endicott Grill in 1957 with his wife. In 1976, he bought and operated the Horseshoe Restaurant in Hopkinton for five years. He retired in 1981. He was also the head chef at the Camp Sentinel Lodge in Moultonboro.
He loved the outdoors and gardening.
He was predeceased by a sister, Betty Kulesza.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marjorie (Spooner) "Marge" Vaeni; two sons, Arthur Vaeni of Plymouth and Edwin Vaeni of Princeton, Mass.; a sister, Kiratsa Tarullo of Newport; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Concord. The Revs. Edwin Vaeni and Arthur Vaeni will officiate.

LACONIA - Sylvia L. (Kogen) Cabiac, 85, of Wildwood Road, died Tuesday at the Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia.
She lived in Laconia for the past 16 years, previously residing in Queens, N.Y.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Samuel and Ethel (Pastulmik) Kogen.
She attended Columbia University and the University of Madrid, Spain. She graduated from the Sorbonne in Paris with a bachelor of letters degree.
She was the owner and operator of the Tangiers Motel in Daytona Beach, Fla., for many years prior to her retirement. She was fluent in French and Spanish.
She attended Temple B'Nai Israel in Laconia.
She was predeceased by her husband, Pierre Cabiac, in 1982.
Survivors include a son, Charlie Cabiac of Daytona Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; two brothers, Milton Carrow of Washington, D.C., and Ray Carrow of Redondo Beach, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held yesterday at the Mount Hebron Cemetery in Queens, N.Y.

FRANKLIN - Anna (Potlowsky) Pierce, 82, of Damy Drive in Franklin, died Tuesday at Concord Hospital after a period of failing health.
She was born in Clifton, N.J., the daughter of Zackary and Theodosia (Orydiyk) Potlowsky. She was schooled and raised in Clifton, N.J., until moving to Franklin in 1958.
She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Cub Scouts, the American Cancer Society and the Franklin Senior Citizens Club.
She was a communicant of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Franklin.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Pierce, in 1981.
Survivors include a son, C. Dennis Pierce of Storrs, Conn.; two daughters, Beverly Cox of Chesapeake, Va., and Donna Wolf of Chichester; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Antoinette Kuhn of Paterson, N.J., and Madeline De Petro of Matawan, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours.

FRANKLIN - Beverly A. "Kipp" Boothroyd, 64, of Trail Street, died Sunday at the Franklin Hospital.
She was born in Salem, Mass., the daughter of Thomas and Mae Brundage.
She worked as an auditor for the State of New Hampshire, DRED, spending many years in the Franconia Notch office prior to returning to the Concord office several years ago. She retired in 1999.
She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Boothroyd.
Survivors include a son, Mark Keller of Bethlehem; a daughter, Lizette Keller of Merrimack; and a brother, Thomas Brundage Jr. of Hamden, Conn.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Hugh J. Gallen Overlook in Franconia Notch.

WILTON - Douglas C. Merrill, 57, of Maple Street, died Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua.
He was born in Concord, the son of Robert Merrill Jr. and Lois (Copp) Dearborn.
He was a graduate of the New England Aeronautical Institute.
He served with the U.S. Air Force.
He worked as a salesman for Brox Industries.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows Pilgrim Fellowship, the American Legion in Milford and the Milford & Co. Motorcycle Club.
He attended the Dunbarton and Concord Congregational churches.
Survivors include his parents, William and Lois Dearborn of Dunbarton; his wife of 32 years, Mary (Power) Merrill of Wilton; a son, Jason Merrill of Wilton; two daughters, Alice Cutting of Sandown and Tina Bryand of Grafton; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; three brothers, Robert Merrill III of Apache Junction, Ariz., Richard Dearborn of Meredith and William Dearborn of Epsom; two sisters, Prudence Merrill-Wheeler of Concord and Susan Dearborn Cluff of Chocorua; and many nieces and nephews.

Charles D. Whitcomb, 71, of Partridge Road, died Wednesday at Concord Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born in Hanover, the son of John and Elizabeth (Abbott) Whitcomb.
He was a graduate of Thetford (Vt.) Academy and the Wentworth Institute in Boston.
He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and also served in Germany.
He had been employed as a construction estimator throughout New England for many years. Following his retirement, he worked at Concord Hospital.
He was a member of the Granite State Wheelmen and the Concord Aeroguidance Society.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Sylvia (Veroneau) Whitcomb; three sons, Paul Whitcomb, Daniel Whitcomb and Dennis Buckley; six daughters, Lynne Whitcomb, Andrea Whitcomb, Joanne Pledger, Felicia Darling, Mary Ellen Griffin and Marcia Buckley; 11 grandchildren; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours will be held tonight from 4 to 8 at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 S. Main St., Concord.
Graveside services will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord. Military honors will be provided by a detachment from the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.
