Flora S. Moquin, ALLENSTOWN

ALLENSTOWN - Flora S. (Stokes) Moquin, 95, of Main Street, died yesterday at Villa Crest in Manchester. She was born in Allenstown, the daughter of Joseph and Marie Anne (Martel) Stokes. She has been a lifelong resident of Allenstown. She was a retired textile worker. She worked for the China Mills and as an inspector for Suncook Woven Label. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the St. Theresa Rosebush Society and was a founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus. She was active in the Senior Cheer Center. She enjoyed knitting and making afghans for friends and relatives. She is predeceased by her husband, Jean Moquin, who died in 1976. Survivors include a daughter, Marion Waterhouse; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Petit Funeral Home, 167 Main St., Pembroke. Prayer services will be held tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home by The Ladies of St. Anne and the St. Theresa Rosebush Society. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church. The Rev. C. Peter Dumont, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be held in the spring in the old St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Allenstown.

Evelyn A. "Polly" (White) Desilets, 68, of Concord, died March 17 at the CRVNA Hospice House in Concord. She was born in Bayshore, N.Y., the daughter of Harold and Gladys (Brooker) White. She graduated from Concord High School. She lived in Fort Myers, Fla., for many years, returning to New Hampshire a few years ago. She loved oil painting. She was predeceased by her husband, August Desilets, who died in 1989. Survivors include three daughters, Anna-Maria Sparks of Loudon, Christine Desilets of Manchester, and Arlene Desilets of Keene; a brother; a sister; a grandson; many nieces and nephews. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to Concord Regional Visiting Nurses Association, Hospice House, PO Box 1797, Concord 03302-1797. The National Cremation Service, Quincy, Mass., are in charge of the arrangements.

Edgar T. Mead Jr., HANOVER

HANOVER - Edgar T. Mead Jr., 78, died February 22 after a short illness. He was born in New York City, the son of Edgar and Gertrude (Hayward) Mead. He grew up in Greenwich, Conn. He attended Choate School in Wallingford, Conn., graduated from Williams College and attended the New York University Graduate School of Business Administration. He served in the US Army intelligence in Europe in World War II. He worked in New York City for many Wall Street firms including Argus Research and Moody's Investor Service and joined the firm of C.G. Haas & Company, retiring in 1968. He also taught at the New York University Graduate School of Business Administration. He was interested and involved in railroads and transportation. He was a director of the Citizens Union in New York City and a national director of the National Railway Historical Society. He served on the planning board, library board, and the board of selectman in Hanover. He was a member of the local, county, and state Republican committees; a Rotarian in New Hampshire and Washington, D.C.; a founder and director of the Church of the Heavenly Rest Day School in New York City and served on the vestry of the Church of the Heavenly Rest and St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hanover. He was co-founder, with his wife, of the Josiah Bartlett Center for Public Policy, a nonpartisan state policy think tank in Concord, in 1993. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Emily Mead of Hanover; two sons, E. Thorn Mead III of Marblehead, Mass., and Malcolm Mean of Harding, N.J.; a daughter, Mary Mead of Warner; and six grandchildren. Services were held on March 3 at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hanover. Memorial donations may be made to the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad, 53 Fore St., Portland, Maine; or to St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

Viola I. Monahan, LACONIA

LACONIA - Viola I. Monahan, 87, of Winter Street, died Tuesday at her home after a long illness. She was born in Laconia, the daughter of William and Meleda (Lemay) Blais. She was a lifelong resident of Laconia. She worked in the knitting department of Morin's Mill for many years. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Monahan, who died in 1982. Survivors include a son, Dennis Monahan of Laconia; a daughter, Judith Ellis of Laconia; a brother, Gerard Blais of Hilton Head, S.C., and Center Harbor; three sisters, Doris Marquis and Rita Marchand, both of Laconia, and Cecile Cameron of Bonita Springs, Fla.; two grandsons; and nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St., Laconia. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Laconia. The Rev. Adrien Longchamps will be celebrant. Burial will be held in the spring in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave., Laconia.

Frank R. Goodwin, 70, of Thompson Street, Concord, died Tuesday at the Hospice House in Concord. He was born in Pembroke, the son of Frank and Rachel (Raymond) Goodwin. He lived in Pembroke, moving to Concord in 1985. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a boatswain mate. He worked for Arnos Cleaners in Concord for 40 years. He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Goodwin, who died in 1992. Survivors include a sister, Pauline Gagne of Allenstown; nieces and nephews. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside services will be held in the spring in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Allenstown. BELMONT - Marjorie M. Aubut, 76, of Union Road, died yesterday at Lakes Region General Hospital after a long illness. She was born in Laconia, the daughter of Lester and Mary (Anair) Allen. She was a lifelong resident of the Lakes Region. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Laconia. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Aubut, who died in 1985. Survivors include her son, Larry Elliott of Northfield; a sister, Doris Bourque of Belmont; three grandchildren, Stacey Elliott of Portsmouth, Mandy Elliott of Merrimack and Larry Elliott II of Northfield; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held privately Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home in Laconia. Entombment will be in Sacred Heart chapel. Florette Y. Croteau, NEWBURY

NEWBURY - Florette Y. Croteau, 89, of Route 103, died Wednesday after a short illness with cancer. She was born in Manchester, the daughter of J.L. Arsene and Eva (Bergeron) LaBarre. She moved to Newbury in 1929 and to York, Maine, in 1971. She returned to Newbury in 1991. She worked as the manager of Milligan's Grocery Store and Amoco Gas Station during the 1940s. She also opened Croteau's Garage, where she and her husband worked for 17 years, and drove school buses that she owned and operated. She retired in 1971. She enjoyed sunny days, bingo and vacationing in Florida. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, George Croteau; three brothers, George LaBarre Sr., Albert LaBarre and Lucien LaBarre; and a sister, Alice Knapp. Survivors include a son, John Croteau of Newbury; a daughter, Evelyn Davis of Warner; a sister, Dora Bergeron; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Other family members include Alice Lynn and Walter Croteau, both of Newbury, Irene Olsen of Lynn, Mass., and John Croteau of Interlachen, Fla. There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery in Newbury. Memorial donations may be made to Lake Sunapee Home Care and Hospice, P.O. Charlotte Taylor, CENTRALIA, Wash.

CENTRALIA, Wash. - Charlotte Taylor, 87, died March 10 at the Sharon Care Center in Centralia, Wash. She was born in Exeter, the daughter of Karl and Lillian (Smith) Taylor. She was the class valedictorian and graduated in 1932 from Laconia High School. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire and her master's degree from Bread Loaf College in Vermont, where she was instructed by poet Robert Frost. She did graduate work at Exeter College in Cambridge, England, and at the University of London. She taught high school English in Lancaster for 20 years, senior English for a year in Montclaire, N.J. and senior honors English for 30 years in Gloucester, Mass. She will be remembered for chaperoning busloads of students at the annual Shakespearean Festival in Stratford, Conn. She moved to Centralia, Wash., in 1988. She was predeceased by a brother, Duncan Taylor, who died in 1950. Survivors include a sister, Rebecca Adams of Chenalis, Wash.; many nieces and nephews including Judith Reever of Lakeport and Bonni Huntoon of Laconia. Memorial services were held March 18 at St. Timothy Episcopal Church in Chehalis, Wash. Burial will be held in the spring in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. The Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home in Laconia is in charge of the local arrangements.

Doris M. (Wood) Sullivan, 74, of Alice Drive in Concord, died yesterday at Concord Hospital. She was born in Concord, the daughter of Elroy and Grace (Brooks) Wood. She loved casinos, and was an avid bingo player. She is predeceased by her husband, Daniel Sullivan, who died in 1998. Survivors include a son, Dennis Sullivan of Concord; two daughters, Donna Rollins of Concord and Debra Caldwell of Fremont, N.C.; two half-brothers, Donald Wood and Richard Wood, both of Concord; two stepsisters, Marie Morin of Greenville, N.C., and Barbara Stratford of Pahrump, Nev., 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Concord. A celebration of her life will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. - Barbara A. (Rice) Ross, 74, died Wednesday at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, Tenn. She was born in North Hampton, Mass., the daughter of Donald and Nina (Strong) Rice. She was formerly of Suncook. She is a retired dietician, working with New Hampshire State Hospital. She attended the Methodist Church She was a member of the VFW in New Hampshire. She enjoyed playing the piano. She was predeceased by three sisters; Donna Rice, Rita Bugieda, and Lela Masloski. Survivors include a son, Alan Ross of College Grove, Tenn.; two half brothers, Donald Rice and Sonny Rice; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three nieces; two nephews; a great niece and great nephew. Memorial services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Lock's Memorial United Methodist Church, 7880 Alamaville Road, Arrington, Tenn. The Rev. Tom Gibson will officiate. George S. Benham

George S. Benham, 80, of Concord, died yesterday at Concord Hospital. He was born in Ansonia, Conn., the son of George and Helen (Brown) Benham. He grew up in Connecticut, living in Weare for 26 years before moving to Concord five years ago. He graduated from Williston Academy in 1941; and attended Wesleyan University. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943, in Europe during World War II, as Tech. Sgt. He worked as a sales representative in the Boston office of Anaconda American Brass Company; and later with Laminated Plastics in Haverhill, Mass. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joyce (Tarbell) Benham of Concord; two daughters, Roberta Wheldon and Nancy Brennan, both of Weare; a son, Wayne Benham of Fremont; four granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the French & Rising Funeral Home, 17 South Mast St., Goffstown. The Rev. BOSCAWEN - Gerald P. Russell, 56, died Tuesday at Elliott Hospital in Manchester. He was born in Concord, the son of Thomas and Genevieve (Ficek) Russell Jr. He graduated from Penacook High School in 1962. He lived in Boscawen all of his life. He worked for N.H. Bituminous in Boscawen for 31 years. He served in the US Army in Korea. He was a member of the American Legion Penacook Post No. 31; the SnoBeepers Snowmobile Club; Boscawen Police Department; the National Wild Turkey Federation; and the Doodle Bug Tractor Pulls. He was a former member of the Much-I-Do Fire Department; and the Sunset Mountain Fish and Game Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was noted for his "one shot" taking of game. He is predeceased by his father; and a brother, Captain Carl Russell. Survivors include his mother of Boscawen; a brother, James Russell of Hampton; two sisters, Carol York and Sheila Russell, both of Boscawen; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home, 42 Washington St., Penacook. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Boscawen Congregational Church. The Rev. Evelyn Clowes, interim pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boscawen. CONTOOCOOK - Dorothea (Preston) Chapin, 95, of Pleasant View and Granite Ledges, died Wednesday at the Hospice House in Concord after a short illness. She was born in Contoocook, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Davis) Preston. She attended Contoocook School and Radcliffe College in Cambridge, Mass. She worked for Bishop Sherrill of Trinity Church, Boston, Mass. Her relatives came to Davisville in 1935, built the first house (still standing) in 1965, and ran the Davis Mill in Warner and the Kingsbury Davis Mills of Contoocook. She was a third generation Preston from Henniker. She is predeceased by her parents and her husband, Merrick Chapin Jr., who died in 1986. She lived in Nashua for 42 years; in Cocoa Beach, Fla., for 25 years; and summered at her parents house on Maple Street in Contoocook. She was a member of Good Shepard Church, Nashua; St. David's by the Sea, Cocoa Beach, Fla.; and a life long member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Hopkinton. She was head of the Episcopal Women of New Hampshire in the 60's; a volunteer member of the Nashua Red Cross; the Norwell Home, the Nashua Memorial Hospital; the Cape Conaveral Hospital; and the International Chapter P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter B in Concord. Survivors include a son, William Chapin of Contoocook; a daughter, Eleanor Cousins of Jay, Maine; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Calling hours will not be held. Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Hopkinton. The Rev. Hays Junkin, pastor, will officiate. BELMONT - Leona J. Deware, 71, of Deware Drive, died Thursday at the home of her son, Thomas. She was born in Gilford, the daughter of Lorenzo and Josephine (Marchand) Durette. She lived in Bedford for many years, moving to Belmont in 1968. She worked as an assembler for Laconia Magnetics for many years. She attended St. Joseph Church in Laconia. She was a member of the VFW Post No. 1670 of Laconia. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Deware Jr., who died in 1996. Survivors include three sons, William Deware, James Deware, and Thomas Deware, all of Belmont; a foster daughter, Vanessa Smith of Belmont; three brothers, Oliver Durette of Belmont, Norman Durette of Gilford, and George Durette of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Yvonne Good of Ashland and Ora Landry of Laconia; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside services will be held in the spring in the family lot in Smith Meeting House Cemetery, Gilmanton.
