Joseph Perley Nadeau, died Thursday at Concord Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Skowhegan, Maine, the son of Frank and Rosie (Thibodeau) Nadeau. He was raised in Caratunk, Maine, and also lived in southern Maine before moving to Penacook in 1990. He worked as a shipyard worker before retiring. Nadeau was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Penacook. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, country music and working on cars. Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen LaBrecque of Penacook and Linda Nadeau of Reading, Mass.; a brother, Thomas Nadeau of West Paris, Maine; a sister, Claudine Wardwell of Castine, Maine; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. His second wife, Marion, and siblings Leo, Clarice, Clifford, Francis, Margaret, Josephine, Willard, Frank, Bee, Howard and Hazel, died previously. Calling hours will be held Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home, 42 Washington St., Penacook. A Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church in Penacook. MANLIUS, N.Y. - Donald E. Clay, 73, died Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y. He was born in Concord and graduated from Concord High School in 1945 and from the University of New Hampshire in 1953. He served with the U.S. Navy. Clay worked as office manager for Smith Corona and Goodyear before working as a salesman for Central Restaurant in Syracuse, N.Y. Survivors include his mother, Frances Clay of Gilford; his wife of 47 years Katharine (Perkins) Clay; a daughter, Roberta-Lynn Procopio of Kirkville, N.Y.; a son, Stephen Clay of West Newton, Mass.; two sisters, Natalie Forgarty of Gilford and Kemis Rodgers of Elliott, Maine; a brother, Kenneth Clay of Concord; and two grandchildren. EAST LEMPSTER - Elizabeth "Betty" L. Parker, 81, of Route 10, died Tuesday at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon after a period of failing health. She was born in Newport, the daughter of Harold and Ruth (Brooks) Wiggins. She graduated from Towle High School in 1939 and Bryant and Stratton School in 1941. Parker worked in Boston and at the Union Carbide Plant in Elizabeth, N.Y., before working as the assistant to the principal at Schenck High School in East Millinocket, Maine. She also worked as executive secretary to the Commissioner, Department of Recreation, State of Vermont in the 1960s. She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, golfing and walking. She was a member of the East Millinocket, Maine, Congregational Church. She was a member of the World War II Knitting Club and the former John Cain Country Club, both in Newport. She was co-participant of the publication Walks and Rambles in the Upper Connecticut River Valley. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Ronald Parker of East Lempster; a daughter, Susan Parker of Contoocook and Geneva, Switzerland; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons. A son, William Parker, died in 1971. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside serves will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at North Newport Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Craig MacCreary, pastor of the South Congregational Church, will officiate In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a humane society. WARNER - Eleanor T. Cutting, 87, of West Main Street, died Wednesday after a short illness. She was born in Keene and was raised in Brattleboro, Vt. She graduated from Brattleboro High School in 1932 and Keene Normal School in 1936. She worked for Pratt and Whitney in Hartford, Conn., during World War II. She worked teaching home economics at Simonds Free High School in Warner and Brattleboro, Vt., High School. Cutting was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and enjoyed sharing her love of sewing and quilting with family. Many of her quilts were used to decorate the walls of Hanover Terrace. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Portugal. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Robert Cutting of Warner; a son, Richard Cutting of Warner; two daughters, Joyce Lundigan of Plainfield and Janice Cutting of Lebanon; and four grandchildren. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Pine Grove Cemetery in Warner. The Rev. Dr. J. BELMONT - Elwood R. Burrows, 69, of Brown Hill Road, died Sunday at Lakes Region General Hospital. He was born in Woodstock, the son of Clarence and Iona (Nichols) Burrows. He served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Burrows lived in Meredith and Moultonboro for many years before moving to Belmont 30 years ago. He worked as a nurse at the Laconia State School and Training Center for 30 years. Survivors include an uncle, Bob Nichols of Meredith; his companion, Alfred Wentworth of Belmont; and nephews and nieces. A brother, Wally Burrows, died previously. MELROSE, Fla. - Ethel Goldenbirch, 71, died May 9 in Gainesville, Fla. She was born in Bradford, the daughter of George and Beatrice (Rodenhieser) Brown. She graduated from Simonds High School in Warner and attended New England College in Henniker. Goldenbirch worked as a librarian in Henniker and Hillsboro for a few years and later worked as a freelance writer and gardener. She moved to Cross Creek, Fla., in the late 1980s before moving to Melrose, Fla. She was active in many causes supporting the preservation of the environment and world peace. Survivors include three sons, Scott Miller of Webster, Barrie Miller of Hillsboro and Duncan Miller of Bedford; a daughter, Heather Rogers of Littleton, Colo.; two brothers, Robert Brown of Newport and Wallace Brown of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Beatrice Fletcher of Dalzell, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, George Brown and Richard Stevens, died previously. Memorial services will be held today in Melrose, Fla. Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family in New Hampshire. CANTERBURY - Stacey Ralph Rachdorf, 57, died Sunday at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia. He was born in Lynn, Mass., the son of Herman and Eleanor (Seymour) Rachdorf. He was owner and operator of Stacey's Hardware Store in Loudon since 1985. Rachdorf was a member and past president of the Loudon Business Association. Survivors include his wife, Janet (Harper) Rachdorf of Canterbury; a son, Stacey Rachdorf of Thornton; three daughters, Paula Child of Belmont, Beth Minery of Canterbury and Robbyn Rachdorf of Canterbury; five grandchildren; and two nephews. A son, Matthew Rachdorf, died in 1973; and two brothers, Richard Rachdorf and Robert Rachdorf, died previously. HAMPTON - Ruth D. Chamberlain, 82, died Sunday at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen. She was born in Manchester, the daughter of Samuel and Blanche (Dunsmoor) Dearborn. She was raised in Manchester and lived in Washington, D.C., and Hampton before moving to Boscawen. She graduated from Manchester Central High School and Colby Junior College and later attended Boston University Law School. Chamberlain worked as a secretary for the U.S. Department of the Air Force in Washington, D.C., at Grenier Air Force Base in Manchester and Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth before retiring. She was a member and past noble grand of the Rebekahs, Arbutus Lodge in Manchester. Survivors include a brother, Earl Dearborn of Pembroke; and a niece, Jane Fillmore of Londonderry. Her husband, John Chamberlain, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester. The Rev. CENTER CONWAY - William F. Friary, 81, died May 10 at his home. He was born in Dorchester, Mass., the son of Peter and Mary (Bryan) Friary. He lived in Dorchester, Mass., and South Boston before moving to Center Conway. He graduated from Mechanic Arts High School and attended Northeastern University, where he held the NEAUU 50 yard sprint title and broke the 100 yard record in 1942. He served with the 85th division during World War II. He was highly decorated, receiving the bronze and silver star medals. Friary worked as a documentation officer in the Marine Division of the Customs Service. He was an avid skier in Mount Washington Valley for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Eastern Slope Ski Club for 28 years, where he was director for 10 years and instructor for 13 years. He enjoyed outdoor activities, although skiing was his passion. Survivors include his wife, Marguerite (Stoddart) Friary of Center Conway; two sons, Todd Hammond of Chichester and Bradley Hammond of Newfane, Vt.; four grandchildren; and three nephews. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Christ Church Episcopal in North Conway. Burial will follow at North Conway Cemetery. Frank Silva Jr., 78, of Franklin Street, Concord, died Tuesday at Concord Hospital. He was born in Concord, the son of Frank and Alicia (Keller) Silva Sr. He graduated from Concord High School. He worked as a machinist for the New Hampshire Highway Garage for more than 37 years before retiring. Silva served as an auxiliary police officer for the Concord Police Department for many years. He was a lifelong member and past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 112 and a member of the American Legion Penacook Post 31, the New Hampshire senior Golfers Association and the Beaver Meadow Country Club. He was an avid sportsman. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Georgianna (Smith) Silva of Concord; a son, George Silva of South Easton, Mass; two sisters, Alice Bly of Concord and Virginia Plante of New London; and nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home, 50 S. Main St., Concord. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, 135 N. State St., Concord. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Concord.
