HENNIKER - Lurena Mae "Gussie" Garrison, 84, died Wednesday at Pine Rock Manor in Warner. She was born in North Conway, the daughter of William and Hazel (Twombly) Cole. She lived in Henniker most of her life. She graduated from Kennett High School in North Conway in 1935. Garrison worked for Osram Sylvania for 26 years before retiring. She was a member of Henniker Congregational Church and Azalea Rebekah Lodge No. 58 in Henniker. Survivors include two sons, Ronald Garrison and Bruce Garrison, both of Henniker; a daughter, Linda Lovering of Concord; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her husband, Langdon Garrison, died in 1996. Calling hours will not be held. Memorial services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Henniker Congregational Church. The Rev. Dr. Russell Rowland, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date in Chocorua Cemetery in Tamworth. Memorial donations may be made to Pine Rock Manor, 3 Denny Hill Road, Warner 03278. WEARE - Eileen A. Murtha, 82, died Tuesday at Elliot Hospital in Manchester. She was born in Boston, the daughter of Thomas and Hazel (Stillings) Powers. She lived in Texas before moving to Manchester in 1996. Survivors include two sons, Richard Barry of Weare and Robert Barry of Lowell, Mass.; a sister, Marie Mapleton of Milbridge, Maine; and four grandchildren. Her first husband, Francis Barry, died in 1972; and her second husband, William Murtha, died in 1992. Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Tennessee RIDGE, Tenn. - Calvin L. Scovel Jr., formerly of Newbury, died Wednesday in Nashville, Tenn., of pulmonary disease. He graduated from Boston University in 1951 where he was president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He served with the 88th Infantry Division in Italy. He moved to Fairfield, Iowa in 1951, Topsfield, Mass., in 1961,Hampstead in 1966 and retired to Newbury. He moved to Tennessee Ridge, Tenn., in 1995. Scovel worked as a personnel officer for Fleet Bank, formerly First National Bank of Boston, and later in the office of human resources at New England College in Henniker. He served on the Hampstead School Board, Hampstead Public Library Board, and was treasurer of Hampstead Congregational Church and South Newbury Union Church. Survivors include his wife, Viva (Addario) Scovel; a son, Calvin Scovel III of Dumfries, Va.; two daughters, Mildred Rawlings of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., and Lauretta Pfeifer of Hyannis Port, Mass.; a sister, Kathryn Fordyce of Haverhill, Mass.; and five grandchildren. His wife, Joan (Bradshaw) Scovel, died in 1984. Burial will held at a later date in Fell Cemetery in Libertyville, Iowa. NEW LONDON - Ralph C. "Bud" Thompson, 86, of Sunset Shore Road, died yesterday at his home. He was born in Cambridge, Mass., the son of Ralph and Katharine (Sander) Thompson. He graduated from Somerville (Mass.) High School and the Lowell Institute at MIT. He worked in the food service and hospital supply industry for Stone & Webster in Boston. He was a draftsman early in his career and later a manufacturing representative in New England until retiring in 1981. He was formerly of Somerville, Winchester and Medford, Mass., before moving to New London in 1981. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of New London He was a member of Boy Scouts of America from 1928 to 2000, including Troop 71 of New London, the County Squires and the New London Boys Club. Survivors include a son, Ralph Thompson of New London; a daughter, Robena Beaupre of Sunapee; four grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. His wife, Louise (Eldridge) Thompson, died in 1995. Graveside services will be held privately in West Part Cemetery in New London. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 71, P.O. Donald L. Gray Sr., 76, of Concord, died yesterday at Harris Hill Center Genesis Eldercare. He was born in Franklin, the son of Fred and Cynthia (Ash) Gray. Gray was a self-employed painter. Survivors include two sons, David Gray of Concord and Dixon Gray of Penacook; four daughters, Deborah Gray of Penacook, Nancy Kingsbury of Franklin, Brenda Moisan of Allenstown and Ann Stubbs of Caribou, Maine; and 18 grandchildren. A son, Donald Gray Jr., and a sister, Barbara Caverly, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Franklin Cemetery. The Rev. ALLENSTOWN - Gertrude Dubreuil, 88, of Cross Street, died yesterday at her home. She was born in Manchester, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Archambeault) Marcoux. She lived in Manchester until moving to Allenstown in 1953. She was a homemaker. Dubreuil was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. She was a member of St. Theresa Rosebush Society and the Ladies of St. Anne. Survivors include two sons, Patrick Dubreuil of Nashua and George Dubreuil of Henniker; a daughter, June Dubreuil of Concord; a sister, Jeannette Coulombe of Manchester; and five grandchildren. Her husband, Patrick Dubreuil, died in 1970. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 4 to 6 p.m. in Petit Funeral Home, 167 Main St., Pembroke. Prayer service will be held by the Ladies of St. Anne and St. Theresa Rosebush Society during calling hours at 4:30 p.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Allenstown. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Manchester. Elizabeth Y. Athearn, 86, of Rumford Street, Concord, died Sunday at the Hospice House after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Bay City, Mich., the daughter of Walter and Ashby (Cayce) Young. She owned and operated Apple Tree Book Shop on Warren Street, Concord, for 20 years. Athearn enjoyed gardening and photography. Survivors include a son, Peter Athearn of Stoddard; a daughter, Joan Dawson of Warner; and three grandchildren. Her husband, Donald Athearn, died in 1987; and a sister, Mrs. Stuart Humphrey, died previously. The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of the arrangements.
