CONTOOCOOK - Erich Paul Schade, 88, died May 14 at Concord Hospice House. He was born in Bad Charlottenbrunn, Province of Silesia, Germany, the son of Gottlieb and Elfriede (Krinke) Schade. He earned a scholarship to the Hermann-Lietz-Schule and was also granted a Deutsches Abitur. He graduated from the University of Breslau and earned a degree in civil engineering from Technical University of Munich. Schade emigrated to the U.S., moving to Concord in 1949 with his wife. He worked as a civil engineer for the New Hampshire State Highway Department, becoming chief of design in the bridge division before retiring in 1979. He was a painter and appreciated geography, history, fine arts, classical music and literature. He enjoyed traveling. He bicycled through Europe in his early years and later with his wife through Europe and Asia. Survivors include his wife, Gertrude (Hoffmann) Schade of Contoocook; and nieces and nephews. Three brothers and a sister, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. HILLSBORO - Ruth Evangeline "Otterson" Thompson, 86, died Sunday at Hillsboro House Nursing Home. She was born in Leominster, Mass., the daughter of Arthur and Deulah (Pierce) Wilder. She was raised in Peterborough and lived in Washington for a few years. She graduated from Peterborough High School in 1934. Thompson worked as a teller and clerk for the Bank of New Hampshire in Hillsboro for 14 years. She was a member of the Smith Memorial Congregational Church of Hillsboro, where she sang in the choir for 10 years. She was a past matron and 60-year member of Portia-Henocon-Asteria, chapter No. 14 O.E.S.; served as Grand Adah in the New Hampshire Grand Chapter of OES; and was a member of the Deborahs and AARP of Hillsboro. Her first husband, William Otterson, died in 1959; and her second husband, Clarence Thompson, died in 1976. Survivors include three sons, Frederick Otterson of Hillsboro, David Otterson of Webster and George Otterson of Washington; a daughter, Nadean Grudenich of Tipton, Okla.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Norman Wilder and Vernon Wilder, and a sister, Marion Hartikka, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. Memorial services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Smith Memorial Congregational Church, Main Street, Hillsboro. The Rev. Wesley Bixby will officiate. LEOLA, Pa. - Clifton R. Sanborn, 71, of Shreiner Road, died Friday at his home after a short illness. He was born in Alexandria, the son of Myron and Mary (Hazelton) Sanborn. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife, June (Spear) Sanborn; four sons, Dennis Sanborn of Chichester, Dean Sanborn of Jacksonville, Fla., Daniel Sanborn of Fort Collins, Colo., and Dana Sanborn of Willow Street, Pa.; two daughters, Deborah Sacco of Fort Collins, Colo., and Darlene Farrell of Lititz, Pa.; three brothers, Glen Sanborn of Hazelton, Pa., Donald Sanborn of Bristol and Lloyd Sanborn of Fort Smith, R.I.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. EAST CONCORD - Donald N. Braley, 84, died Saturday at the Hospice House of Concord. He was born in Andover, the son of Jesse and Maymie (Burnum) Braley. He lived in the Penacook-Concord area all of his life. He graduated from Penacook High School in 1935 and Tilton Prep School in 1936. Braley played violin professionally with the New Hampshire Symphony Orchestra and was a violin and banjo instructor. He owned and operated the Braley Lumber Co. in East Concord for many years and later became a real estate broker. Survivors include two sons, Donald Braley of Boscawen and Kenneth Braley of Hillsboro; a brother, Jesse Braley Jr. of Manchester; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. His wife, Bertha (Brown) Braley, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside services will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Pine Grove Cemetery in Boscawen. The Rev. EPSOM - George Reginald Wiggin, 89, of River Road, died Sunday at his home. He was born in Brookfield, the son of Frank and Mabel (Pike) Wiggin. He graduated from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro. He served with the Naval Reserves as a flight instructor and later for Wiggin's Airways. He started Industrial Camera in 1958, designing and building time-lapse surveillance cameras for the banking industry. He served as an Epsom selectman for nine years and was active in the New Hampshire Aircraft Historical Society and EAA Chapters. He built an experimental aircraft in 1983, which had its first flight in 1985. Survivors include a son, James Wiggin of Boscawen; a daughter, Susan Bowne of Epsom; a brother, Donald Wiggin of Mountain View, Calif.; a sister, Catherine Russell of Fort Myers, Fla.; and two grandsons, James Wiggin of Winnebago, Ill., and Donald Bowne Jr. Memorial services will be held at a later date at the family cemetery in Brookfield. Kristal G. Martel, 48, of Concord, died Monday at her home. She was born in Concord, the daughter of Kenneth and Myrtle (McIntyre) Hardy. She was an administrative specialist for the Concord Fire Department. She also worked as a process engineer at Sprague Electric for 20 years. Martel coached Little League softball for Concord American for 12 years and girls basketball at various levels. She enjoyed biking, kayaking, swimming, the outdoors and her two Labrador retrievers. Survivors include her parents of Blairsville, Ga.; her husband of 25 years, Lawrence Martel of Concord; a son, Wayne Martel of Allenstown; two daughters, Karen Sebastian of Syracuse, N.Y., and Tracy Folsom of Concord; a brother, Kenneth Hardy of Utah; and four grandchildren.
