CANTERBURY - Violet Emily Miller, 85, of Old Boyce Road, died yesterday at her home. She was born in Potter Place, the daughter of Harold and Ethel (Perkins) Small. She lived in Franklin before moving to Canterbury in 1974. She worked as part of the war effort in Rhode Island during World War II. Miller was a homemaker and worked as a dietitian at Franklin Regional Hospital for more than 15 years. Survivors include two sons, George Miller of Canterbury and William Miller III of Salisbury; two daughters, Calista Tilton of Franklin and Marilyn Annis of Orange Park, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews. Her husband of 54 years, William Miller Jr., died in 1988; a daughter, Barbara Frazer, died in 2001; and two sisters, Myrtle Malasky and Bertha Braley, died previously. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. in the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road, Tilton. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Larry Turns, pastor of Congregational Christian Church UCC in Franklin, will officiate. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery. GILFORD - Lawrence "Larry" F. Poitras, 49, of Belknap Point Road, died Sunday at Lakes Region General Hospital. He was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, the son of Francis and Bernadette (Demers) Poitras. He lived in Connecticut for many years before moving to Gilford three years ago. Poitras served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1972 to 1975. He worked for Synergetics Installation Worldwide of Portsmouth for three years, serving as project manager at the time of his death. He was a former member of the American Legion Post No. 37 of Bellows Falls, Vt. He was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed boating and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Catherine (Golec) Poitras of Gilford; two sons, Jeffrey Poitras of Bellows Falls, Vt., and Brian Poitras of Germany; a brother, Roger Poitras of Newfane, Vt.; and three nieces and five nephews. Calling hours will not be held. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia. The Rev. Mary Perrino Byrne, 81, of Franklin Street, Concord, died yesterday at Concord Hospital. She was born in Concord, the daughter of Liberatore and Carmella (Gammarota) Perrino. She graduated from St. John's High School in Concord and the Boston Conservatory of Music. She also took private music and piano lessons. Byrne was a concert pianist and taught piano all her life. Survivors include a son, Christopher Byrne of Boulder, Colo., a daughter, Pamela Byrne of Moorestown, N.J.; and a cousin and nephews. A sister, Teresa DeFelice, and brother, Angelo Perrino, died previously. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home, 50 S. Main St., Concord. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

EPSOM - Henrietta J. Cullen, 99, died yesterday at Epsom Manor. She was born in Lubec, Maine, the daughter of John and Janet (Lancaster) Jones. She was a homemaker and a letter correspondent for the Boston Globe and The Union Leader under the name Quoddy Light. She lived in Wakefield, Mass., for 50 years before moving to New Hampshire. She spent winters in Florida. Cullen was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wakefield, Mass., and the Cosmos Club. She enjoyed braiding rugs. Survivors include a son, G. Albert Cullen Jr. of Lake Placid, Fla.; four grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; and two nieces. Her husband, G. Albert Cullen, died in 1993. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in McClary Cemetery, Center Hill Road, Epsom. The Rev. William Paige will officiate. LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Patricia Hoye, 72, died yesterday at the Hospice and Palliative Care Inpatient Unit at Norton Healthcare Pavilion. She was born in Franklin, the daughter of Don and Doris (Swett) Buswell. She lived in Franklin before moving to Louisville, Ky., in 1973. She worked as a registered nurse for Northfield, Jefferson Manor, Christopher East and Mt. Holly Nursing Homes in Louisville before retiring. She also worked in hospitals in Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Wisconsin. Hoye was Catholic and an active member of St. Louis Bertrand Church in Louisville. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Robert Hoye; two sons, Robert Hoye Jr. of Fishers, Ind., and Peter Hoye of Louisville; two daughters, Joanne Cox of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Kathleen Hoye of Athens, Ohio; a brother, Douglas Buswell of Eliot, Maine; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 10 a.m. in St. Louis Bertrand Church, 1104 S. Sixth St., Louisville, Ky. Burial will be held in Proctor Cemetery in Andover. SANBORNTON - Joseph Halsey Lightowler, 81, of Knox Mountain Road, died Wednesday at his home. He was born in New York City, the son of Joseph and Bessie May (Halsey) Lightowler. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific, where he trained to maintain radio transmitters and receivers. Lightowler later served with RCA in the introduction of television in the 1940s, large-scale digital computers in the 1950s, and helped maintain the giant radar system in the Arctic during the Cold War. He retired in the 1970s. He was devoted to God and his community. Survivors include his wife, Leola May Halsey of Sanbornton; and a son, Roger Lightowler of Cambridge, Mass. His first wife, Martha Lightowler, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside services will be held privately at a later date in the family lot in Kingston. Nanci C. Godfrey, 92, of Christian Avenue, Concord, died Thursday. She was born in Hampton, the daughter of Victor and Jane (Hodges) Haughton. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Peekskill, N.Y., and New York University in New York City. She lived in Princeton, N.J., and Woodbridge, Conn., before retiring to New London. Godfrey worked as an art and ceramics teacher for Miss Fines School in Princeton, N.J., and the Foote School in New Haven, Conn., for 35 years. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in New London. She enjoyed traveling, ceramics and children. Survivors include three stepchildren, Jonathan Godfrey of Perth, Western Australia, Peter Godfrey of Bethesda, Md., and Nancy Godfrey of Mill Valley, Calif.; and nieces and nephews. Her husband, Gordon Godfrey, died in 1992. Graveside services will be held at a later date in High Street Cemetery in Hampton. Helen W. Wilber, 90, of Concord, died Thursday at Presidential Oaks in Concord. She was born in Keene, the daughter of Harry and Nettie (Hastings) Knight. She graduated from Keene High School. She lived in Keene most of her life, where she was formerly of Tanglewood Estates. She also lived on Prospect Street in Franklin before moving to Presidential Oaks in October of 2000. Wilber was a member of the Eastern Star Asteria Chapter 40 and the United Church of Christ in Keene. She was known for her organic garden and loved the outdoors and cats. Survivors include a son, Dean Wilber of Concord; a daughter, Donna Harris of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Her husband, Erwin Wilber, died in 1966; and her stepmother, Florence Knight, died previously. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Fletcher Funeral and Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro St., Keene. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Swanzey.
