PENACOOK - Bernice "Bunny" Hayward, 90, died Tuesday at her home. She was born in Harrisville, the daughter of Stanley and Caroline (Schlacta) Rapsis. She lived in North Conway before living in the Penacook-Concord area for 40 years. She graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in 1932. Hayward worked at the North Conway Memorial Hospital for many years and later as an office nurse for a physician in Concord. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Penacook, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Emblem Club in North Conway. She loved gardening, knitting and crocheting. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Williams of Concord and Alice Jepsom of Ashburnham, Mass.; a brother, Henry Rapsis of Chamblee, Ga.; four sisters, Josephine Szacik of Keene, Lillian Fortier of Rollinsford, Helen Rapsis of Nashua and Lorraine Rapsis of Merrimack; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her husband, Kenneth Hayward, died in 1986; and three brothers, Stanley Rapsis, John Rapsis and Edward Rapsis, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home, 42 Washington St., Penacook. The Rev. W. Timothy Thibeault, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church, will officiate. Burial will be held in the spring in St. Stanislaws Cemetery in Nashua.

HILLSBORO - Allen Dale Reedy, 90, died Nov. 16 at the Hospice House in Concord after a short illness. He was born in Tacoma, Wash., and lived in Hillsboro for more than 30 years. He graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma, Wash., and earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Stanford University. He served in the Army Air Corps as a lieutenant and was stationed at March Field. Reedy taught high school mathematics in California. He later worked for Pan American beginning in 1939 and served as navigator on the first instrument approach into Mexico City. He was active in the Conservation Commission in Hillsboro. Survivors include two daughters, Martha Child of Bennington and Susan Schnur of Islesboro, Maine; a sister, Lorna Follensbee of Concord; five grandchildren; and six great-granddaughters. His wife, Ernestine (Paschke) Reedy, died in 2000. WEARE - Hannah Arlene Thorp, 96, died Saturday at a healthcare facility in Concord. She was born in Exeter, the daughter of Guy and Maude (Hoyt) Thorp. She lived in the Weare-Goffstown area for most of her life and was formerly of Dearborn Road in Weare. She worked as librarian in the Children's Room at Manchester City Library for more than 40 years. Thorp was a member of the Congregational Church of Goffstown. She was a member of the Weare Historical Society and Goffstown Garden Club. Survivors include three nephews, Burton Gunn of Wolfeboro, Brad Thorp of Goffstown and Donald Teague; and three nieces, Gayle Green of Gilford, Susan Gunn Spillane of Burlington, Vt., and Marcia Englert of Walworth, N.Y. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Goffstown. The Rev. Janet Heslam will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Weare. HAMPTON - Clinton E. Wheeler Sr., 92, died Sunday at the Seacoast Health Center. He was born in Nashua, the son of Walter and Mabel (Connor) Wheeler. He was raised in Manchester and lived in North Hampton and Hampton for many years. He lived at the Seacoast Health Center for the past two years. He graduated from New Hampton School for Boys in New Hampton Wheeler served in the military during World War II and the Korean War, beginning in the Army Air Corps in 1938 and retiring as a staff sergeant in the Air Force in 1959. He enjoyed owning and driving his Corvettes. Survivors include a son, Charles Wheeler Jr. of California; a brother, David Wheeler of Manchester; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. His wife, Helene (Shapleigh) Wheeler, died in 1978. Calling hours will not be held. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. NORTH OXFORD, Mass. - Gail A. Surprenant, 62, of Thayer Pond Drive died Saturday at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Mass. She was born in Southboro, Mass., the daughter of Carlyle and Lois (Peacock) Moody. She lived in Charlton, Mass., for 19 years and Webster, Mass., for many years before moving to New Hampshire, where she lived for 12 years. She moved to Oxford, Mass., two years ago. Surprenant worked as an elementary school teacher at Charlton Elementary, Holland Elementary and in the Concord area, and later as a substitute teacher in Oxford, Mass.. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, bird watching, reading, hiking, skiing and the ocean. Survivors include her husband of 16 years, Robert Surprenant of North Oxford, Mass.; a son, Scott Baker of Charlton, Mass.; three daughters, Lois Flanagan of Franklin, Mass., Robin Anderson of Spencer, Mass., and Monica Butrick of Oxford, Mass.; three brothers, Leslie Moody of Florida, Lee Moody of Webster, Mass., and Steven Moody of Oxford, Mass.; two sisters, Joan Chabot and Georgia Bedard, both of Oxford, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Chellis H. Call, 79, of Centerwood Drive died Monday after a period of failing health. He was born in Chichester, the son of Bryant and Della (Griffin) Call. He graduated from Concord High School in 1941. He served in the military during World War II in China, Burma and India and during the Korean War as an artillery officer in the 40th Infantry Division. He retired as a colonel in the New Hampshire Army National Guard after more than 30 years of service. Call worked with the New Hampshire Board of Underwriters in 1946 before serving as vice president and secretary of the insurance firm of Morrill and Everett Inc. in 1948. He served as past president of the Independent Insurance Agents of New Hampshire, Independent Insurance Agents of Concord, the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce and Concord Kiwanis Club; as vice chairman of the New House Representatives Insurance Committee in 1947 and in the state House of Representatives from 1967 to 1978; and as director of Concord Regional Development Corporation, the Concord Chapter American Red Cross, Swift Water Girl Scout Council and the former Concord Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of all Masonic organizations, the VFW, the American Legion, Concord Lodge of Elks and the New Hampshire 100 Club. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Eleanor (McLaren) Call; a son, Douglas Call of Incline Village, Nev.; five daughters, Linda Couch of Chichester, Cynthia Gaston of Concord, Pamela Phillips of Lancaster, Susan Pomeroy of Eugene, Ore., and Jacquelyn Allin of Marathon, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. NORTH SUTTON - Marie H. Lima, 60, died Monday at Concord Hospital. She was born in Boston, the daughter of Alfonse and L. Dorothy (Smith) Milisci. She worked as a homemaker. She enjoyed all crafts. LEBANON - Doris M. Porter, 78, died Monday at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a period of failing health. She was born in East Plainfield, the daughter of Fred and May (Goodwin) Barker. She attended a one-room school in East Plainfield and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1942. She worked for H.W. Carter and Sons, Carter and Churchill, Lebanon Drug Store and later part time for C.H. Davis Jewelry. She published her own cookbook in 1978. Porter lived most her life on Gile Farm, Hardy Hill in Lebanon, and lived at Rosewald Farm in Hillsboro for a year. She loved farming, gardening flowers, and making jams, jellies, pickles, paperweights, pins, pendants and more. She was a longtime member and past Deaconess of the Meriden Baptist Church. She was a longtime member and past president of the Lebanon Garden Club; a 55-year member of the Meriden Grange, where she won many prizes in sewing and cooking; a former member of the Suburban Club and Lebanon Historical Society; and active with the New Hampshire League of Arts and Crafts and Merricrafters of Meriden. Survivors include her husband, Clifton Porter of Lebanon; two sons, John Porter of Boscawen and Norman Porter of Lebanon; two grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Roy Barker and Earl Barker, died previously. Calling hours will be held Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Meriden Baptist Church, Route 120, Meriden. MIAMI SPRINGS, Fla. - Ruth C. Mercer, 88, died Tuesday at Fair Havens Center in Miami Springs, Fla., after a long illness. She was born in Taunton, Mass., and was formerly of Henniker before she retired to Englewood, Fla. She graduated from Henniker High School and Concord Business College in 1933. She worked as an accountant for Thompson and Hoague Company for many years. After retiring, she worked maintaining the accounting system for the Park Forest Condominium Association in Englewood, Fla., until 2001. Mercer was a member of the South Congregational Church in Concord for more than 50 years. She was a member of the National Association of Cost Accountants. Survivors include a son, Richard Gillingham of Hialeah, Fla.; and two granddaughters, Caroline Gillingham-Metzelar and Heather Gillingham, both of Hialeah, Fla. MANCHESTER - Elaine M. Garon, 62, formerly of Hooksett, died Monday at a local health care facility. She was born in Manchester, the daughter of Vaughn and Victoria (Iryzk) Goss. She graduated from Central High School in Manchester. She lived in Hooksett for 20 years before returning to Manchester in 1992. Garon worked for the State of New Hampshire for more than 10 years. She loved cooking, crafts and camping. Survivors include three sons, Matthew Garon of Epsom, Richard Garon and Michael Garon, both of Manchester; a daughter, Lesley Lemay of Manchester; a brother, Robert Goss of Allenstown; five grandchildren; and a niece and nephew. BOSCAWEN - Mary Jane "MJ" Allen, 59, died Sunday at Concord Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Old Town, Maine, the daughter of Thomas and Virginia (Harris) Beale. Allen worked for St. Paul's School in Concord for seven years and later at the Department of Health and Human Services in Concord. She loved her dog, Suzie, sewing, gardening and quilting. Survivors include a son, D. Eric Day of Nashua; a daughter, Denise Day of Holmdel, N.Y.; two sisters, Nancy Cossette of Concord and Suzanne Watson of West Chesterfield; her companion, Joseph Boisvert; and two granddaughters. WOODSTOCK, Vt. - Elmer A. Emery, 93, died Tuesday at the Peabody Home in Franklin after a short illness. He was born in Pomfret, Vt., the son of Henry and Mary (Curtis) Emery. He lived in Pomfret, Vt., before moving to Woodstock, Vt., where he lived until a year ago, when he to Franklin. He attended a one-room school in Pomfret and high school in Woodstock. He later took a locksmith course by mail. Emery worked for Smith's and Mitchell's Clothing Stores before purchasing it in the 1940s and changing the name to Emery's Mens Wear. He retired in the 1970s. He later worked at the Maintenance Shop at the Woodstock Inn for many years. He was a tailor, played saxophone with the Chick Welles' band during the 1930s and 1940s. He was one of the first skiers in Woodstock and last skied at Suicide Six in 1998. He was a member of the Grey Camp in Barnard, Vt., and the Woodstock Rotary Club and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship Award in 1989. Survivors include a son, H. Gilson Emery of Montgomery, Ala.; two daughters, Elizabeth Frost of East Andover and Maryann Allcroft of West Hartford, Conn.; an adopted daughter, Bonnie Carr of Bridgewater; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Cabot Funeral Home in Vermont.
