WAVERLY, Ohio - The Rev. Roger P. Horton, 84, former pastor of the Boscawen Congregational Church, died Sept. 5 at Pleasant Hill Manor due to stroke complications. He was born in New Haven, Conn. He graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Bates College in 1940 and graduated from Hartford Seminary in 1944. Horton served as pastor of the Boscawen Congregational Church from 1944 to 1948; he was associate pastor at Woodfords Congregational Church in Portland, Maine, from 1948-53; he served as pastor of the Glenolden Congregational Church in Glenolden, Pa., from 1953-1960; and he served as pastor of St. James United Church of Christ from 1960-84 before retiring. He was active on regional and state committees in his pastorates. From 1956-58 he was moderator and chairman of the board of the Pennsylvania State Conference, supporting the national merger of the Congregational Christian Church and the Evangelical and Reformed churches. This merger established the United Church of Christ. He served as moderator and chairman for the New York State Conference of the United Church of Christ from 1968-70. He also served on the boards for the local Council of Churches in Philadelphia and Buffalo. He was chairman of the Church and Ministry Committee of the Western Association of the United Church of Christ from 1979-81. He was an active member of the Orchard Hill United Church of Christ and volunteered with the Pike County Outreach Council after retring. Survivors include his wife, Frances (Davies) Horton; two daughters, Deborah Fenn of Orchard Park, N.Y., and Polly Horton of New York, N.Y.; two grandsons; and two great-granddaughters. David J. Fournier Sr., PENACOOK

PENACOOK - David J. Fournier Sr., 74, died Saturday after a long illness. Born in Penacook, the son of Eugene and Alice (Spaulding) Fournier, he was a resident of Penacook most of his life with the exception of several years in Canaan, Vt., where he worked for Ethan Allen Furniture Co., and several years in Waterbury and Cheshire, Conn., where he worked in the building trade. He returned to New Hampshire in 1962. He was self-employed as a builder for more than 35 years in Boscawen, Penacook and the greater Concord area. In 1946, he enlisted in the Army Air Force, where he was a Radar Mechanic Navigator and was discharged in September 1947. He was in the reserves at Fort Ethan Allen in Winooski, Vt., and the Active Reserves in Canaan, Vt., where he was discharged in 1951. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 31, and a member of the Contoocook Valley Radio Club. As a CB operator, he was known as Simon Legree. He was a ham radio operator for many years W10E. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Marie; four sons, Lawrence Fournier of Derry, Michael Fournier of Hillsboro, David Fournier Jr. of Salisbury and Arthur Guinard Jr. of Belmont; four daughters, Susan Gregg of Peoria, Ariz., Virginia Jourdenais of Contoocook, Darlene Smith of Penacook and Marie Whiting of Boscawen; three other children he raised, David Fournier III of Salisbury, Peter Fournier of Penacook and Jessica Campbell of Penacook; two sisters, Lucille and Gloria Fournier, both of Penacook; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Lawrence and Eugene Fournier, and a granddaughter, Tracy Fournier, died previously. There will be no calling hours. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to the Concord Visiting Nurse's Association.

NORTHFIELD - Justine M. Gauthier, 80, of Concord Road, died Friday at Franklin Regional Hospital following a long illness. She was born in Tilton, the daughter of William and Olive (Twombly) Rollins. She graduated from Tilton School in Tilton. Gauthier lived in Franklin for more than 40 years and in Rumney for 18 years before moving to Northfield five years ago. She worked as a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Franklin and of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Tilton. Survivors include three sons, Wayne Gauthier and David Gauthier, both of Northfield, and Richard Gauthier of Windham, Maine; a brother, William Rollins of Laconia; two sisters, June Tilton of Tilton and Peggy Tart of Laconia; an aunt, Clarida Cannon of Tilton; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Her husband, August Gauthier, died in 1969. Two sons also died previously, Donald in 1950 and Bruce in 1953. A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. A gathering with a luncheon will follow at sister June Tilton's home in Tilton. Veronica L. Richman, 68, of Alton Woods Drive, died Friday at Concord Hospital after a short illness. She was born in New York City, the daughter of Jacob and Mae (Troy) Richman. She graduated from the Washington Irving School and attended Hunter College. She moved to New Hampshire in 1980. Richman worked as an administrative assistant for many years, first at Polyclinic Hospital in New York City then to the principal of Red Bank High School in New Jersey. After moving to New Hampshire, she worked for the state Department of Education in the special education division and later at the state Department of Environmental Services as a human resources supervisor, retiring in 1994. Survivors include two brothers, William Pryor of Albrightsville, Pa., and Raymond Pryor of San Clemente, Calif.; a sister, Dorothy Cullen of Cape Coral, Fla.; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. A sister, Louise Smith, died previously. Visiting hours will be held tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Waters Funeral Home in Concord. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m.

Craig Richard Brown, 32, of Pittsfield, died Friday after a motorcycle accident. He was born in Barnstead, the son of Roland Brown and Madgeline "Midge" Gerlach. He lived in Belmont, Northfield, Center Barnstead and Pittsfield for the past seven years. Brown graduated from Winnisquam Regional High School in 1989. He worked at Timco in Center Barnstead. He loved hunting, fishing, motorcycles and spending time with his son. Survivors include his mother of Pittsfield and father of Northwood; a son, Derek Brown of Franklin; a grandmother, Dorinda Gerlach of Center Barnstead; two brothers, Clayton Brown of Franklin and Clifton Brown of Belmont; a sister, Michelle Brown of Concord; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Richard E. Pearl Jr., 73, of Concord, died Thursday at Pleasant View Nursing Home after a long illness. He was born in Concord, the son of Abner and Ina (Dyer) Pearl Sr. He lived in the Concord area most of his life. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from the Navy Reserves as Petty Officer- First Class. Pearl worked as a safety inspector for the State of New Hampshire for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 21 and the VFW Post 1631 of Concord. Survivors include his former wife, Phyllis Bouchard Pearl of Penacook; three sons, Richard Pearl Jr. of Bow, Stephen Pearl of Loudon and Scott Pearl of Peterborough; two stepdaughters, Diane Call of Concord and Peggy Tibbetts of Sanbornton; a stepson, Stephen Miner of Florida; two brothers, Abner Pearl Jr. and Henry Pearl, both of Concord; 10 grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. BELMONT - P. Wayne Eaton, 92, of 15 School St., died at home Saturday. He was born in Belmont, the son of Charles and Melissa (Sanborn) Eaton. He was a life-long resident of Belmont. He served in the Army during World War II. He worked for Belmont Hosiery for 25 years and at Scott & Williams for 19 years. He was long-time member of the First Baptists Church of Belmont and had served as chairman of the building committee. Survivors include a son, Richard Eaton and wife Diann of Belmont; a step-granddaughter, Tracy Albey of Tilton; two nieces, Anne Mills of Waltham, Mass., and Jane O'Neil of Florida; and a nephew, Philip Bowler of Merrimack. His wife, Barbara B. (Bryant) Eaton, died in 1996. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the South Road Cemetery in Belmont. The Rev. Edward Francis Chase, 81, of Concord, died yesterday at home. He was born in Webster, the son of Francis and Grace (Foote) Chase. He was a civil engineer for the State of New Hampshire for 30 years. He was a well-known surveyor and founded the Granite State Surveying Company. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge F&AM in Concord. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors, particularly gardening. He taught a hunter's safety course for many years. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Flora (Morrill) Chase; two sons, Edward L. Chase and Brian F. Chase, both of Concord; a sister, Dorothy Summers of Plaistow; five grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Mary Maxfield, and a brother, Archie Chase, died previously. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Concord. Bennett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

HAMPTON - Col. Maurice R. Buttrick, 72, of Milburn Avenue, died Friday at Exeter Hospital. He was born in Henniker, the son of Ronald and Lucy Buttrick. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1951, where he was a member and current treasurer of the Sigma Beta fraternity. He also attended the Boston College School of Law. When he retired, he was the executive staff support officer at the New Hampshire National Air Guard headquarters in Concord. He served in the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force and continued service with the state Air National Guard for 31 years. He served at Pease Air Force Base for three years as commander of the 157th Resource Management Squadron and 20 years as comptroller of the 157th Air Refueling Group. In 1985, he was awarded the Legion of Merit, the third-highest military decoration awarded during peacetime. He was also a Certified Public Accountant and had an office in Portsmouth for 25 years. A 32-degree Mason, he was a member of Benevolent Lodge No. 7 F.& A.M. of Milford, the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Nashua, the New Hampshire Consistory and Bektash Temple Shrine, Concord. He was a charter member of the William Pitt Tavern Lodge No. 1789 of Portsmouth and past patron of the Puritan, Charity, Themis, Atlantic Chapter No. 29 O.E.S. of Milford. He was also a member of the Portsmouth Rotary Club and the Hampton American Legion Post No. 35, treasurer of Lifewise and a director of the Mark Wentworth Home in Portsmouth. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Barbara (Hampel) Buttrick of Hampton; a son, Todd Buttrick of Fremont; a daughter, Tracy Buttrick of Portsmouth; two grandchildren; a brother, David Buttrick of Webster; a niece; a nephew; and cousins. Calling hours will be held today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the High Street Cemetery. Services will be held tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Eleanor Margaret (Norton) Brew died yesterday at the Ethan Allen Residence in Burlington, Vt. Brew was born in Rochester, N.Y., the daughter of Mary (Preston) and Oakley W. Norton. Brew studied piano at Rochester's Eastman School of Music and secretarial skills at Rochester Business Institute. She married Richard Duncan Brew in 1941. They founded Richard D. Brew and Co., an electronics and vacuum furnace manufacturer, in 1946 and managed the company together in Concord until their retirement in 1986. Following her husband's death in 1990, Brew moved to Vermont. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Brew, of Burlington, Vt.; a son, Rick Brew, of Martha's Vineyard, Mass.; three grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Norton Battey of Webster, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews; and her caregiver, JoAnn Hough. BOW - Shirley A. Hague, 68, of Birchdale Road died Friday at Concord Hospital after a long illness. She was born in Concord, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Emmons) Hodgman Sr. She lived in Concord and Bow all of her life. She lived with her sister-in-law, Rita Hodgman, for the last seven years. She graduated from Concord High School in 1952. She served in the Navy. She worked as an inventory control clerk at the former Rumford Press for 20 years and as a welder at Sprague Electric for 10 years. She was a member of VFW Post No. 1631 of Concord. She enjoyed gambling at Seabrook at Rockingham Park and was an avid fortune-teller. Survivors include a son, Michael Hague of Concord; a sister, Beverly Christian of Sparks, Nev.; a brother, Donald Hodgman of Epsom; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Two brothers, Frank Hodgman Jr. and George Hodgman, died previously. There will be no calling hours. SPRINGHILL, Fla. - Linda J. Hashem, 55, formerly of Concord, died Jan. 7 at home after a short illness. She was born in Concord, the daughter of John and Dorothy (Baston) Caldon. She graduated from Concord High School in 1965 and attended hair-dressing school in Boston. Hashem was formerly of Quincy, Mass. She worked at Lotus in Massachusetts. Survivors include her mother of Concord; a son, Sean Hashem of Seabrook; a daughter, Kimberly Hashem of Salisbury; two brothers, Barry Caldon of Henniker and Jack Caldon of Jefferson and Nottingham; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
