SALISBURY - Rene Beaudoin, 88, died yesterday at Concord Hospital after a period of failing health. He was born in Laconia, the son of Adelard and Celina (Gosselin) Beaudoin. He attended schools in Laconia. He lived in Franklin before moving to Salisbury 53 years ago; he moved to the Merrimack County Nursing Home in 1997. Beaudoin owned and operated Speed's Outdoor Vegetable and Fruit Stand at Busy Corner for many years; worked as a meat cutter for the Ayotte Market and later the Franklin Locker Plant, both in Franklin; and was self-employed as a storekeeper and owned and operated the Beaudoin and Sons General Store in Salisbury. He was a member of the Salisbury Congregational Church. Survivors include three sons, Edward Beaudoin of Contoocook, Walter Beaudoin of Belmont and John Beaudoin of Okinawa, Japan; a brother, Lorenzo Beaudoin of Laconia; five sisters, Theresa Goin of Wells, Maine, Irene Abramowicz of Portland, Maine, Madeline French of Port Charlotte, Fla., Rachel Girard of West Boylston, Mass., and Jacqueline Lavoie of Woonsocket, R.I.; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; and nieces and nephews. His wife, Alice (Rand) Beaudoin, died in December; and a sister, Cecile Susel, and a brother, Gerard Beaudoin, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside services with his wife will be held in the summer at Maplewood Cemetery in Salisbury. Elizabeth Kleinfelter, NEW LONDON

NEW LONDON - Elizabeth J. "Jean" Kleinfelter, 99, of County Road died yesterday at the Clough Center. She was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada, the daughter of Ewen and Margaret (MacKenzie) MacPhee. She lived in Gettysburg, Pa., for many years before moving to New Hampshire more than 10 years ago. Kleinfelter worked as a secretary to the owner of Hotel Gettysburg for many years. She was a former member of the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two grandchildren, Linda McNeely and Myles Kleinfelter; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Her husband, Myles Kleinfelter, died in 1970; and a son, Stuart Kleinfelter, died in 1995. Graveside services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Centre View Cemetery in Biglerville, Pa. PORTSMOUTH - Pauline Welch, 88, died Sunday at Sunbridge of Portsmouth after a period of failing health. She was born in Manchester, the daughter of Harry and Bertha (McAllister) Hawkins. She graduated from Manchester Central High School and Hillsboro County Home School of Nursing in Goffstown. Welch worked as a maternity room nurse at Portsmouth Hospital for many years before retiring. Survivors include a son, Jim Welch of Chichester, and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Edward Welch, and a daughter, Janis Welch, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. Memorial services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 129 Miller Ave., Portsmouth. WARNER - William E. Boudette Jr., 85, of Denny Hill Road died Sunday after a long illness. He was born in Claremont, the son of William and Ida (Young) Boudette. He graduated from Stevens High School in 1935 and attended New Haven College. He lived in Cheshire, Conn., and, for the last 30 years, in Concord. He worked for Esso Standard Oil Company and later owned and operated a dairy farm in Claremont. He then worked as a sales consultant for many environmental engineering firms. Boudette was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church. He was a member of the Elks Club and the Lake Sunapee Yacht Club Orchestra. He was active in politics and served on the Claremont City Council for many years. His wife, Lauretta (Noury) Boudette, died in 1993. Survivors include three sons, Thomas Boudette of Hopkinton, Daniel Boudette of Pembroke and Timothy Boudette of Searsport, Maine; two brothers, Eugene Boudette of Gilmanton and Earl Boudette of Charlestown; a sister, Norma Principe of Springfield, Mass.; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will not be held. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Church. Burial will be held at St. Mary Cemetery. LACONIA - Ernest R. Cole, 78, died yesterday at New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., the son of Ralph and Josephine (Prue) Cole. He attended St. Johnsbury (Vt.) schools. He served in the Army as a demolitions specialist with Company A 1st Engineer Combat Battalion in France and Germany during World War II. He received the Army of Occupation medal and the World War II Victory medal. Cole was formerly of School Street in Lakeport. He worked for Ralston-Purina Co. in St. Johnsbury, Vt., for many years before retiring in 1974. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 1670 in Laconia. Survivors include two daughters, Corinne Albert of Lakeport and Ernestine Cookson of Meridian, Conn.; two sisters including Frieda McHugh of Franklin; three brothers; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He wife, Hildegard (Reutter) Cole, died in 1999. Calling hours will not be held. Burial will be held in the spring in Bayside Cemetery. Arthur M. Packard Jr., MANCHESTER

MANCHESTER - Arthur Mellen Packard Jr., 86, of Manchester, the relative of area residents, died Jan. 26 at the Villa Crest Nursing Home. He was born in Dixfield, Maine, the son of the late Arthur M. and Eva (Conant) Packard, and graduated from Canton (Maine) High School in 1935. He lived in Nashua for 13 years before moving to Manchester and had previously lived in Attleboro, Mass. He was the husband of Marian (Tidwell) Packard, whom he married in 1942 in Macon, Ga. He began his career in the laboratory at the International Paper Co. in Livermore Falls, Maine, in 1935. From 1936 to 1941, he was an electrician's helper with the Central Vermont Public Service Co., Public Service of New Hampshire and the Central Maine Power Co. Packard entered the Army in 1941 as a private. He became a second lieutenant in the infantry in 1942 at Fort Benning, Ga., and commanded an infantry rifle company with the 63rd Infantry Division (Company C, 255th Infantry Regiment) in Europe. He received a bronze star for meritorious service in France and Germany as commanding officer of a rifle company. He was discharged as a major in the infantry in 1946. He then returned to the Central Maine Power Co. as an electrical inspector, central division. He left in 1947 for Macon, Ga., where he worked in electrical construction and as the city's electrical inspector. He returned to Maine in 1948 to join NEPSCO Services Inc., as field electrical engineer on the central generating station for PSNH. He later became an electrical construction engineer for PSNH. In 1962, he moved to Attleboro, Mass., and joined Jackson & Moreland International in Boston as project engineer on a central generating station being built in the Dominican Republic. The next year, he joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology National Magnet Laboratory in Cambridge, Mass., as assistant plant engineer and then plant engineer, retiring in 1979. Packard was a lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He was a lifetime member and Master Mason of Herman Lodge 32 A.F.& A.M. of Gardiner, Maine, and the Washington Royal Arch Chapter 3 of Portsmouth. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Janet Packard of Merrimack; a son, Arthur M. "Chuck" Packard III of Hooksett; two granddaughters; a brother, Dwight Packard of York, Maine; and a sister, Beverly Howe of York, Maine. A private funeral service was held in the Farwell Funeral Home in Nashua. Following cremation, burial will take place at the Greenwood Cemetery, Dixfiled, Maine, in the spring. Marie E. Cahill, 95, died on Friday at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Concord. She was born in Canada, the daughter of Nicholas and Anna (Doucet) Comeau. Survivors include two daughters, Annette Murphy of South Weymouth, Mass., and Pauline Holbrook of Florida; a sister, Agnes LeBlanc of Nova Scotia, Canada; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Her husband, Thomas Cahill, and two sons, Thomas Cahill and Edward Cahill, died previously. There will be no calling hours or services. PENACOOK - Wendell F. Bergh, 62, died on Friday at the Hospice House in Concord. He was born in Concord, the son of Warren and Ruth (Taylor) Bergh. He lived in Epsom for many years before moving to Penacook five years ago. He worked for Patenaude Lumber Company in Henniker, then for Ross Express Company in Boscawen as a mechanic for many years before retiring. He was an avid covered bridge enthusiast and received many awards for the miniature bridges he created. Survivors include three daughters, Ruth P. Cassidy of Manchester, Schannon Sargent of Plymouth and Kim Bachmeier of Jacksonville, N.C.; two sisters, Janet Lyden and Carol Schunneman, both of Epsom; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. Services and burial will be held in the spring at Henniker New Cemetery in Henniker. The Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home in Henniker is in charge of the arrangements.

ANTRIM - Flossie F. (French) Putnam, 90, died on Friday at home. She was born in West Deering, the daughter of Harry and Mary (Carter) French. She had lived in Antrim since 1935. She as a 1929 graduate of Hillsboro High School. She worked for the Gooddell Company of Hillsboro for 14 years. She was a life member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary Post No. 8268 in Bennington; was a member of the Prescott Meyers Olson American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 50 in Antrim; and was a life member of the Purple Heart Auxiliary Post No. 395 in Manchester; and was a member of the Gold Star Mothers. She was an avid gardener. Survivors include four sons, Wayno Oldon of Antrim, Roscoe Putnam Jr. of Stoddard, Donald Putnam of Florence, Ky., and Jim Putnam of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a daughter, Dale Putnam-Sudsbury of Antrim; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her husband, Roscoe Putnam, died in 1993; a son, Lelon Olson, died in 1951; a daughter, Sandra Putnam Frosch, died in 1992; a granddaughter, Heidi Frosch, died in 1990; and a grandson, Scott Putnam, died in 1978. Graveside Services will be held in the spring at Maplewood Cemetery in Antrim. The Rev. Paul Gaylord, pastor of the Hillsboro Baptist Church, will officiate. HAVERHILL - Doris (Eaton) Carr, 95, died on Friday at the Cottage Hospital in Woodsville. She was born in Parker Station, the daughter of Perry and Emma (Cayer) Eaton. She lived in Hopkinton, before moving to Haverhill 20 years ago. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Norton, Vt., and studied to become a registered nurse at Knox Hospital in Camden, Maine. She received a bachelor's degree from Simmons College in Massachusetts. She worked for the Navy during World War II as a cost inspector in Dover. She was assistant comptroller for the state of New Hampshire for many years before retiring. She was the former president of the New England Welsh Pony Association. She loved all animals and loved to fish. Survivors include a son, Robert Carr Sr. of Henniker; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
