ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Bertha E. Harrison, 98, a former area resident and relative of area residents, died yesterday at Mt. Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, Va.
She was born in Laconia, the daughter of the late Charles Ward and Isamay Elliott.
She attended secretarial school in Boston, after which she worked as a legal secretary for a prominent Boston justice.
In 1952, she became office manager of Gerry-Northup Company in Boston, a general contracting firm founded by her grandfather and managed by her father and later her late husband, John Harrison. She retired in 1966.
She lived in Reading, Mass., where she made homemade beans and bread and marketed them under the name Cone Maple Farms.
She moved to Alton Bay after retiring, and lived there until 1989, when she moved to Alexandria, Va.
She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" Wordell of Alexandria, Va.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a nephew, Ralph Jury of Alton; and a niece.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the family lot in Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading, Mass.
The Rev. David Reid will officiate.

MANCHESTER - Diana M. Roy, 97, relative of area residents, died yesterday at Villa Crest, Manchester, after a short illness.
She was born in St. Monique, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Omer and Clerina (Cote) Dube. She lives in Manchester for most of her life. She was a member and former president of the Sodality of St. Anne at St. Marie Church, Manchester.
She was predeceased by her husband, Marcel Roy; and a son, George Roy.
She is survived by three daughters, Lucille Chalifour of Manchester, Sr. Laurette Roy, PM of Hudson, and Carmelle Paveglio of Chichester; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Roy of Merrimack; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Lambert Funeral Home, 1799 Elm St., Manchester.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. in St. Marie Church, 378 Notre Dame Ave., Manchester. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Manchester.

Irene D. Dow, 77, of Pitman Street, died Tuesday at home after a long illness.
She was born in Pembroke, the daughter of the late Napoleon and Rosanna (Daneault) Dandurand.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, James Dow of Concord; four daughters, Jean, Louise, Lorette and Cecile; a stepson, Harold Dow; two sisters, Germaine Garland of Concord and Emily Brough of Rumford, R.I.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service will be tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the chapel at the Robert C. Crutchfield Apartments, 15 Pitman St. The Rev. Mitchell Wanat, pastor of St. Peter's Church, will officiate. The Waters Funeral Home in Concord is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Kilbourne, HAMDEN, Conn.

HAMDEN, Conn. - Dorothy Hall Kilbourne, 84, formerly of Concord, died Tuesday at Harborside Health Care Arden House in Hamden after a brief illness.
She was the wife of John Kilbourne.
A daughter of the late Robert and Florence Sweet Hall, she was born in Watertown, Mass. She had been a resident of Concord for many years before moving to Hamden in 1955.
She was a member of the Mount Carmel Congregational Church in Hamden and a former member of the Grange in Mount Carmel. She was a librarian at the Yale Medical School Library for more than 20 years before her retirement.
Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Faith Bates of Watertown and Marianne Thompson of Hingham, Mass.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two daughters, Nancy Kilbourne and Dorothy Kilbourne; two sisters; and a brother.
A memorial service will be held on tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Mount Carmel Congregational Church in Hamden. There will be no calling hours and the interment will be private.

Florence D. Devenger, CLAREMONT

CLAREMONT - Florence D. Devenger, 95, formerly of Hillside Terrace, where she had lived since it's opening in 1978, died Wednesday at the Sullivan County Nursing Home.
She was born in Brookline, Vt., the daughter of Adam and Antonia (Bolska) Jankewicz Johnson. She was one of nine children.
She lived in Newport for 50 years, and worked as a stitcher for the Newport Clothing Company, retiring in 1975.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, and a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union.
She was predeceased by a son Richard Devenger.
She is survived by a son, Rodney Devenger of Claremont; four daughter, Elizabeth Sanborn of East Flat Rock, N.C., Albertine Sinotte of Concord, Gwen Brinkley of Magee, Miss., and Sandra Peterson of Tampa, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Johnson of Eustis, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad St., Claremont.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph Church, The Rev. Stanley Piwowar, pastor, will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Bellows Falls, Vt.

Kenneth E. Wood, 58, of Chancellor Drive, died Wednesday at Concord Hospital.
He was born in Concord, the son of H. Kenneth and Cora Mae (Palmer) Wood.
He worked as several restaurants in the Concord area before retiring in 1989.
He was an avid car enthusiast and an expert jigsaw puzzle solver.
He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Nicole Greene.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Pamela (Leary) Wood of Concord; two daughters, Coralyn Wood of Concord and Melissa Howard of Gilmanton; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Sally Johnson of Hillsboro.
Calling hours will be held tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Concord.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. George Blackman will officiate. Burial will be in Blossom Hill Cemetery.

Acile Harrison, 100, of Christian Avenue, died Sunday at the Havenwood Health Care Facility.
She was born in Paris, France, the daughter of Cyril and Alice (Morgan) Harrison.
Before moving to Concord in 1983, she lived in Boston and New York City.
She graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor's degree and received a master's degree from the Boston School of Physical Education, where she worked as the admissions director.
She worked for various New England private schools as a physical education teacher, and spent many summers as a counselor and director for New England area camps. She also worked in the office of the president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a time.
She is survived by a cousin, Harriet Anderson of Wethersfield, Conn.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial services will be held at Havenwood. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Denver, Colo.

PENACOOK - M. Isabel A. Rolfe, 91, of Penacook Street, died Wednesday at home after a long illness.
She was born in Manchester, the daughter of Walter and Maud (Cunningham) Africa. She lived in Laconia for many years before moving to Penacook nine years ago.
She was a graduate of Manchester Central High School and a 1928 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, where she was a member of the Tau Chapter Alpha-Xi-Delta. She went on for post graduate studies in dietetics at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore.
She was a member of the United Church of Penacook and a longtime volunteer for the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen at the Hanover Shop. She also volunteered for the Association of the Blind and later for the Audubon Society of New Hampshire.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert "Red" Rolfe.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Rolfe and Florence Randall both of Penacook; two nieces, Carol Foss of Penacook and Judith Burr of Waltham, Mass.; and a nephew, Donald Randall of Contoocook.
There will be no calling hours, and private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
