James S. Calnan, MERRIMACK

MERRIMACK - James S. Calnan Sr., 53, of Merrimack and formerly of Allenstown, died of cancer Thursday at Elliot Hospital. He was born in Lowell, Mass., the son of the late Joseph and Katherine (Burlingame) Calnan. He lived in Allenstown for 17 years. He was the foreman at Smith Pump in Hooksett for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a passion for collecting and refurbishing firearms. Survivors include four sons, James Calnan Jr. of Manchester, Adam Calnan of Gilford, Justin Calnan of Allenstown and Jeremy Calnan of Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, Paul Calnan of Merrimack and John Howe of Tewksbury, Mass.; two sisters, Anne Gilardi of Wilmington, Mass., and Lillian McKeon of New Jersey; and seven grandchildren. A brother, Joseph Calnan, and two sisters, Kathleen Boudreau and Kathy Calnan, died previously. Services will be private. The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of the arrangements.

Jeffrey C. Jones, HILL

HILL - Jeffrey C. Jones, 48, of Murray Hill Road, died Friday at Franklin Regional Hospital. He was born in Franklin, the son of Fred and Joan (Rollins) Jones. He lived in Hill all his life. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1973. Jones worked at Polyclad Laminates in Franklin for several years and later at Hill Design. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Survivors include two sons, Benjamin Jones and Michael Jones, both of Hill; two brothers, Fred Jones and Harold Jones, both of Hill; a sister, Linda Litchfield of Hill; and nieces and nephews. A sister, Barbara Jones, died in 1992; and his parents also died previously. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Mass. 01701-4688.

John J. Grant

John Joseph "Jack" Grant, 89, of Presidential Oaks in Concord, died Friday after a lengthy illness. He was born in Worcester, Mass., the son of John and Adele (Ford) Grant. He graduated from Worcester High School. He served in the Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He had previously lived in Hyannis, Mass.; Worcester, Mass.; Auburn, Mass.; Deerfield Beach, Fla.; Port Charlotte, Fla.; and Pompana Beach, Fla. He worked as an accountant for Norton Abrasives for 33 years until retiring in 1972. He also worked as an accountant for the town of Auburn, Mass., and in Barnstable County, Mass. He was an avid sportsman and liked shooting, fishing and clamming with friends. He received numerous marksmanship awards and was a safety instructor. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was classified as a competition expert for outdoor smallbore rifle prone shooting. Grant was also a member of the American Legion, the Norco Rifle and Pistol Club, the Elks Lodge 1549 in Hyannis, Mass., the elks Lodge 1898 in Pompana Beach, Fla.; the United States Power Squadrons and the Dennis-Yarmouth (Mass.) Council on Aging. He was also a member of Henry's Hideaway and the Italian American Club of Coconut Creek, Fla. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Pauline (Theroux) Grant of Concord; three newphews; one niece; a grand-niece; a grand-nephews; one great-grand-nephew; and two great-grand-nieces. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Clinton Street, Concord. The Rev. Joel Guillemette will officiate. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Vermont and New Hampshire, 10 Ferry St., Suite 427B, Concord 03301. Affordable Funeral and Cremation Services Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.

Earl E. Gould, HENNIKER

HENNIKER - Earl E. Gould, 87, died Friday at the Hospice House in Concord. He was born in Henniker, the son of Elmer and Della (Flanders) Gould. He was a lifelong resident of Henniker. He worked for Patenaude Saw Mill for many years until retiring. He was a member of Henniker Congregational Church. Survivors include two sons, Robert "Chipper" Gould of Henniker and Earl Gould Jr. of Miami, Fla.; two daughters, Joan Taylor of Henniker and Shirley Ann Sweeney of Bennington; a sister, Helen Gould of Henniker; two stepsisters, Catherine Langford of Live Oak, Fla., and Irene Haase of Oakland Park, Fla.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Henniker New Cemetery, Henniker. The Rev. Janet Heslam, pastor of Henniker Congregational Church, will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the Henniker Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 91, Henniker 03242. Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home in Henniker is in charge of arrangements.

Robert B. Hickey, GOFFSTOWN

GOFFSTOWN - Robert B. Hickey, 85, died yesterday at Concord Hospital. He was born in Manchester, the son of George and Linda (Reynolds) Hickey. He had lived in Goffstown for over 50 years. He graduated from Manchester Central High School and from Dartmouth College in 1942. He served as a lieutenant in the Navy during World War II. After his military service, he graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathy in Missouri. He practiced osteopathy for 47 years until retiring. Hickey enjoyed skiing, sailing and music and was a devoted gardener. He also traveled extensively. Survivors include a son, Robert I. Hickey of Concord; a daughter, Kerry DeWitt of Bethlehem, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Charlotte Horner-Hickey. His wife, Jean (Simmons) Hickey, died in 2000. A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Goodwin Funeral Home, 607 Chestnut St,Manchester. The Rev. Christopher Emerson, senior minister of the First Congregational Church in Manchester, will officiate. Private burial will be held in the mausoleum of Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, New Hampshire Chapter, 10 Ferry St., Suite 419, Concord 03301.

Leo A. Nadeau, EASTON, Maine

EASTON, Maine - Leo A. "Binx" Nadeau, 68, died Friday at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He was born in Franklin, the son of Leo and Rosamond (Cline) Nadeau. He served in the Air Force for several years. He was a member of the Easton (Maine) American Legion and a former member of the Easton (Maine) Lions Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he enjoyed wildlife photography. He also took photos at pageants and school functions and for the Easton (Maine) community calendar. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (Flewelling) Nadeau of Easton, Maine; a son, Brad Nadeau of Easton, Maine; three daughters, Laurie Martin of Easton, Maine, Ellen Nadeau of East Millinocket, Maine, and RuthAnne Darr of Prinesville, Ore.; a brother, Larry Nadeau of Franklin; a sister, Sharon Lemire of Franklin; 15 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Easton Wesleyan Church in Easton, Maine. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Matthew Maxwell will officiate. A reception will follow. Interment will be in Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou, Maine. Dora M. Champion, FRANKLIN

FRANKLIN - Dora M. Champion, 91, died Friday at the Pleasant View Center in Concord. She was born in Fall River, Mass., the daughter of George and Fabiona (Benjamin) Cantara. She was a former resident of Sanbornton and had lived for more than 50 years on New Hampton Road in Franklin. In 2000, she moved to Lakeport to live with her son and his wife. She was a life member of the Women's Fleet Reserve Auxiliary. She enjoyed embroidery, solving puzzles and braiding rugs. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. Survivors include two sons, Andrew Champion Jr. of Lakeport and Richard Fedion of North Conway; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Andrew Champion Sr., died in 1982. Two granddaughters also died previously. A calling hour will be held tomorrow from noon to 1 p.m. at the Simoneau and Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St., Laconia. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. George Hankins-Hull, spiritual coordinator for LRGHealthcare, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery.

Rena M. Kendall, SUTTON

SUTTON - Rena M. Robinson Kendall, 90, of Baker Hill Road died Saturday at New London Hospital. She was born in Sutton, the daughter of William and Sadie (Palmer) Connor. She lived in Springfield, Vt., and Portsmouth and spent most of her life in Sutton. She was active in the King's Daughters and the Grange. She enjoyed handwork and sewing. Kendall was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Sutton. Survivors include a son, Donald Robinson of Wells, Maine; four daughters, Joyce Bridgman of Avon, Conn., Linda Harris of Bradenton, Fla., and York Beach, Maine, Louise Allgier of Savannah, Ga., and Phyllis Robinson of York Beach, Maine; four stepsons; Wesley Kendall Jr. of Melrose, Mass., Richard Kendall of Naches, Wash., Gene Kendall of Lawrence, Mass., and Roger Kendall of Tewksbury, Mass.; a stepdaughter, Ruth Easton of St. Vincent, Minn.; seven grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew. Her first husband, Clarence Robinson, died in 1983; her second husband, Wesley Kendall, died in 1996; and a sister, Jean Bennett, died in 2001. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Sutton. The Rev. Herschel Rogers, paster, will officiate. Burial will be in Millwoods Cemetery in Sutton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church, P.O. Box 51, North Sutton 03260; or to Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association, P.O. Helen L. Wehrle, CHICHESTER

CHICHESTER - Helen L. Wehrle, 68, died Friday at her home. She was born in Harris, R.I., the daughter of Joseph and Ada (Crompton) Chatelle. Survivors include her mother, of Concord; her husband, Joseph Wehrle of Chichester; a brother, Alfred Chatelle of Coventry, R.I.; a sister, Claire Gifford of Foster, R.I.; four nephews; and two nieces. Services will not be held. Memorial donations can be made to the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice program, P.O. Box 1797, Concord 03301-1797. EPSOM - Robert Henry Miller, 64, died Friday at Concord Hospital. He was born in Manchester, the son of Nile and Louise (Dubois) Miller. He worked in housekeeping at the New Hampshire Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia (Fountain) Miller of Epsom; two sons, Robert Miller and Anthony Miller, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Kathy Greeson of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Walter Miller of Manchester; two sisters, Mable Laroche of Franklin and Rose Vattes of Belmont; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will not be held. A graveside service will be held tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at McClary Cemetery in Epsom. Peter C. Salta, LACONIA

LACONIA - Peter C. Salta, 82, of Leigh Court died Saturday at home following a brief illness. He was born in Laconia, the son of Christ and Cleo (Chirakis) Salta. He was a lifelong resident of Laconia. He attended Laconia schools, graduated from Laconia High School and received a degree from Bentley College. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He founded Salta Tire Co. in 1967 and operated it since then. At the time of his death, he was vice president of the company. Salta was a member of the Laconia Elks Lodge No. 876, the American Legion Wilkins-Smith Post No. 1 and the VFW Post No. 1670 in Laconia. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Laconia. He was an avid golfer and excelled at both candlepin and 10-pin bowling. At one time, he was the city candlepin bowling champion. Survivors include his wife, Shirley (McGrath) Salta of Laconia; a son, William Salta of Laconia; two daughters, Nanci McDonough of Manchester and SueAnn Ippolito of Laconia; a sister, Constance St. Clair of Laconia; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St., Laconia. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church St., Laconia. The Rev. Gary Kosmowski, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
