Aaron Chadbourn
LEE - Aaron "Chad" W. Chadbourn Jr., 88, of Turtle Pond Road, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at his home in Lee.
Born in Madbury, on July 3, 1916, he was the son of Aaron W. and Marian (Libby) Chadbourn Sr. He was raised on Cape Cod and moved to Lee in 1946.
He was a 1938 graduate of the University of New Hampshire. He began working as a herdsman for the Three Rivers Farm in Dover.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corp. and was stationed at Pearl Harbor.
In 1946, he started his own farm, Broadfield Farm in Lee, which he operated for 10 years.
For several years, he served in the State Legislature and was active in Lee politics. He later worked for Farmers Home until his retirement.
For more than 40 years, he was an active member of the Jeremiah Smith Grange in Lee, and he would help at the beef barbecue at the Lee Fair. He was also an active member of the Lee Church Congregational, where he played the organ for many years, before retiring in 1990. He loved children and enjoyed playing Santa at the church Christmas Fair.
For many years, he was the Friday night entertainment, playing the organ at Chadbourn Family Restaurant in Northwood.
He was a life member of the Lee Memorial Post 10676 V.F.W., a member of Strafford County Soil Conservation and a former volunteer member of the Lee Fire Dept.
He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Hannah "Sis" (Sheppard) Chadbourn in 1985; his second wife, Elizabeth (Batchelder) Smart Chadbourn in 1991; and by his two brothers, Frederick and Robert Chadbourn.
Survivors include his daughter, Joan C. Brady of Northwood; three grandchildren, Aaron W. Brady of Canaan, Vt., Ann Louise Thibeault of Northwood and Seth E. Newman of Phoenix, Ariz.; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and by his longtime care giver, Jack Brown.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Lee Church Congregational, Mast Road, Lee, with the Rev. Brendon Bass, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Dover.

Leonard Clough
BARRINGTON - Leonard Walter Clough, 62, of Province Road, died on Oct. 10, 2004, at his residence.
He was born on Sept. 5, 1942, the son of Walter and Elsie (Hill) Clough in Pittsfield.
He was a longtime resident of Barrington, (since 1970). He was an engineering manager of Pratt & Whitney in North Berwick, Maine, working for 15 years until he retired at age 55. He was a Mason of the Barnstead, N.H. Lodge. He was a school board member for three years from 1977-1979 for the Town of Barrington, a member of the Barrington Youth Association and a baseball coach. He enjoyed woodworking; he was a master wood craftsman.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon "Lee" (MacQuarrie) Clough; his son, Stephen and his wife, Lynda Clough, of Barrington; his daughters, Karen and her husband, Wayne Lindbom, of Rochester, and Kristen and her husband, David Alphonse, of Framingham, Mass.; his three grandchildren, Joshua, Jordyne and Lauren; his stepson, Michael MacQuarrie of Hampton; a stepdaughter, Charlotte Martino of Dover; and six step-grandchildren.
Friends and family may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at the Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road, Route 4, Lee, NH.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on October 14 at the Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord, Road, Route 4, Lee, NH, with the Rev. Edward Whitman of Barrington Congregational Church and the Rev. James Frase, officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Barrington, N.H.

Gladys Green
ROCHESTER - Gladys F. Green, 80, of 14 Adrian Circle, Aptartment 102, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at the Frisbie Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born Aug. 26, 1924, in Dover, she was the daughter of the Harold and Fannie (Welch) Marden.
She lived most of her life in Dover, and attended Dover Schools. She owned and operated Riverside Lunchroom and Gas Station in Barrington in the 1950s. She worked at the University of New Hampshire in the housekeeping department for nine years. She also worked for a dentist in Windsor, Conn., at the time of her retirement. She enjoyed meeting people, doing crafts, and loved animals. She will be missed by all who knew her and all whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia F. Nielson and her husband, Chris, Kathleen A. Norris and her husband, Michael; three sons, Wilfred M. Cunningham and his wife, Marsha, Allen D. Cunningham and his wife, Nancy, and Sherman A. Green and his wife, Robin; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, James B. Green; two sisters, Ester Fagan and Dorothy (Emma) Freeman; brother, Raymond F. Marden; first husband, Wilfred M. Cunningham; and several nieces and nephews.

DURHAM - Roland R. Laroche, 64, of Packers Falls Road, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004 at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.

Arthur Panteledes
SOMERSWORTH - Arthur "Burma" Panteledes, 69, of 7 Williams St., died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at his residence after a period of failing health.
He was born, May 4, 1935, in Woburn, Mass., the son of Michael and Helen (Platanites) Panteledes. A longtime resident of Somersworth, he was a graduate of Somersworth High School, Class of 1953. He was employed as a machinist at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard from 1974-1994 and at the Altron National Passport Center from 1994-2004.
He was an avid bowler and family photographer, a sports fan especially of the San Francisco 49ers. He was a member of Shop 31, Inside Machine Shop. He enjoyed yearly vacations to York Beach, Maine. He was dedicated to his church by serving as an acolyte.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Barbara (Gasses) Panteledes; two brothers, George Panteledes of Marblehead, Mass., and John Panteledes of East Rochester; three sisters, Penny Matses of Methuen, Mass., Constance (Connie) Villari of Hammonton, N.J. and Stella Panteledes of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Artemis Welch and a brother, George.

Patricia Parkinson
BERWICK, Maine - Patricia Ruth Parkinson, 76, of Applegate Village in Berwick, died on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at her home.
Born in Portland, Maine on Aug. 21, 1928, she was the daughter of Minard L. and Gladys C. (Gilbert) Gray. She grew up in Gorham, Maine, and was raised on the family farm in Gorham. She graduated from Gorham High School.
She met and on Aug. 10, 1952, she married her husband, Milton L. Parkinson, together they made their home in Maine, moving to West Palm Beach, Fla., 30 years ago.
In Florida, she was employed as a trucking and police dispatcher.
She enjoyed bowling, winning many bowling tournaments, she competed on television and in a number of leagues, both in Florida and at the "Big 20" on Route 1 in Scarborough.
She returned to Maine three years ago, to be closer to her daughter, Joyce and her family. She was embraced by the Berwick Community and her church, the Family Christian Center. She enjoyed her church family and the friends she had made. She was an avid knitter who had donated more than 100 pair of handknitted mittens to the "Angel Tree".
She will be missed by those who knew and loved her, including her daughters, Joyce A. and her husband, Roland Fogg, of Berwick, Maine, and Jo Ann Carter of West Palm Beach ,Fla.; her son, Robert A. and his wife, Audrey Parkinson of Lantana, Fla.; her sisters, Estella "Honey" B. Shaw of North Dakota and Claire J. Emerson of Lewiston, Maine; six grandchildren, Roland "Butch" Fogg Jr., Melissa J. Main, Michelle L. Fogg, Milton A. Fogg, Crystal Parkinson and Brandey Parkinson; and six great-grandchildren, Katie, Marilyn, Rebekah, Dakota, Dylan and Jacob.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 12 p.m. at her church, The Family Christian Center, in Sullivan Square in Berwick, Maine. Friends may visit with Patricia’s family from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. before the service on Saturday.

Orania Samaras
MANCHESTER - Orania "Helen" Samaras passed away peacefully on Oct. 9, 2004, at Hanover Hill Health Care Center, Manchester, after a long illness.
She was born July 21, 1916, in Manchester, to Elene and Christos Lappas, who had emigrated from Greece.
She is survived by her two daughters, Joanna Samaras, Manchester, and Faye Labanaris, Dover; her son-in-law, Nicholas Labanaris and two beloved grandsons, Andrew Labanaris, Woonsocket, R.I., and Tommy Labanaris, Astoria, N.Y. She leaves her sisters, Victoria "Joan" (Lappas) Curran, Chelmsford, Mass., Mary (Lappas) Cosmas, Manchester, Dora (Lappas) Chakas, Manchester, Kelly (Lappas) Bartlett, Epsom, and her beloved brother-in-law, Carroll Bartlett, as well as her nieces and nephews. Her husband, John A. Samars, died in 1983 and her two brothers, George Lappas, Concord, and Alexander Lappas, Levittown, N.J., predeceased her.
She worked as a home shoe worker for Bee Bee Shoe and Amoskeag Shoe to be a stay home mom to her children. She enjoyed her years as a cook at the Women’s Aid Home in Manchester, as well as an associate of the Elliott Hospital in the coffee shop. She was a member of St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church and their Ladies Society, Manchester, as well as a welcomed regular visitor to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Dover.
She was well loved with a gentle smile and warm heart and will be sorely missed by her family, friends and neighbors.

Susan Samson
ELIOT, Maine - Susan Janet Samson, 50, of Hanscom Road in Eliot, died on Oct. 9, 2004, after a long battle with breast cancer.
She was born on June 3, 1954, in Rumford Maine, and she was the daughter of Omer F. and Clarine E. (Tebbetts) Bouthot. She was raised in, and attended schools in Mexico, Maine, graduating from Mexico High School with the Class of 1973.
She resided in Portland, Maine, for more than 20 years, during this time she was employed as a manager for McDonald’s in South Portland for 15 years. She entered the banking industry in South Portland, working for Key Bank for nearly eight years before moving to Eliot and working in the Kittery Branch of Key Bank for two more years.
She was an avid NASCAR fan, she with her life partner, Ray Wilbur, enjoyed following NASCAR and traveling. She enjoyed recent trips to the Grand Canyon, New Orleans, Florida and New York City, among many trips they made together.
She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her, including her life partner, Ray Wilbur, of Eliot; her only son, Aaron Samson, of South Portland and grandson, Devin; a brother, Steve Bouthot of Hollis; her sister, Karen Langevin of Limington; nieces, Beth Bouthot of Falmouth, Kristen Hayes of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Suzanne Langevin of Germantown, Md.; nephews, Joshua Bouthot of Manchester, N.H. and Matthew Langevin of Gorham, Maine; as well as many friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery Maine 03904, with refreshments to follow.

Mary Wold
DOVER - Mary Louise Saunders Wold, 81, surrounded by her family, died peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at the Wentworth Home after a long battle with cancer. A burial service was held the following day at Pine Hill Cemetery.
A resident of Dover the past 18 years, she was born in Neosho, Mo., the daughter of William Henderson Saunders and Jesse Borah, on Oct. 5, 1923, and grew up in Dallas, Texas. She was the seventh child in a family of eight children and began her career as a flight attendant with Pan Am Airlines, where she helped to organize the first flight attendant’s labor union. While attending an aviation conference, she met her husband of 44 years, William Clifford Wold, who predeceased her in 1991.
After marriage, Louise and Bill Wold settled in Greenwich, Conn. Twenty years later, the family moved to Madison, N.H. and then Ossipee, before settling in Dover.
As a New Hampshire Tree Farmer, she was most proud of her recent donation to the Town of Madison. A preserve of open space and walking trails is protected forever in her name. She was also a member of the Society for the Protection of N.H. Forests, the Nature Conservancy, and the Smithsonian Institute.
Throughout her life, she has believed in the potential nobility of peoples. This has given her wise counsel and loving encouragement to everyone she met. She strongly believed in the oneness of mankind and supported racial and religious harmony, the importance of educational opportunity and social and economic justice.
She was a member of the Baha’i faith. She loved traveling throughout Latin America as a Pan Am stewardess, beginning a lifelong affinity for the people, the language and the culture. As a Baha’i teacher, she made trips to remote mountain villages in Central America, helping people to establish their local institutions.
She worked as a hospital volunteer in Greenwich and, after moving to New Hampshire, in North Conway. She holds a bachelors degree from the University of Texas, and after her children were grown, went on to earn a masters degree in clinical psychology from Antioch New England. With her professional training, she became a guidance counselor at Kennett High School in Conway. She was an advocate for human rights and equality of men and women. She was a longtime supporter of the National Organization of Women, Planned Parenthood and A Safe Place.
In recent years, she indulged her love of New England’s natural beauty and learned to create art with pastels, enjoying yearly trips to the village of Lubec in northern Maine and Campobello Island where she practiced her art in depicting the coastal scenery. She was an avid bridge player most of her life and was a member of a summer bridge league in York, Maine as well as a Dover, N.H. bridge club.
She is survived by her five children and six grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters Wanda Lewellan of Louisiana, Missouri and Charlotte Love of St. Petersburg, Fla.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. at the Wentworth Retirement Home, 795 Central Ave., Dover, N.H.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request that a donation be made in her honor to the Seacoast Hospice or the Nature Conservancy.
Frances Carlson
NORTH HAVEN, Conn. - Frances Evelyn Carlson, formerly of North Haven, Conn., Wolfeboro, N.H., and Kittery, Maine, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at the Renaissance Nursing Home, Biddeford, Maine, after a period of failing health. She was 83.
Born April 22, 1922, in New Haven, to Fred and Bertha (Bramble) Goss, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert H. Carlson. Together they owned and operated Pond View Nursery in North Haven for many years.
An accomplished gardener, cook and seamstress, she enjoyed fishing and music.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, Thomas H. and Sandra A. Carlson and Robert J. and Pauline Carlson, both of Rochester; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road in Kittery, Maine, on Friday, Nov. 19 at 4 p.m. A reception will immediately follow at the home of Thomas and Sandra Carlson.
Flowers may be sent to J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Judith Hermonat
MILTON - Judith E. Hermonat, 51, of White Mountain Highway in Milton, died suddenly Thursday evening, Nov. 11, 2004, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Born Jan. 9, 1953, in Rochester, she was the daughter of Norman and Audrey (Hartford) Rouleau. She resided in Milton for the past 23 years, having come from Rochester.
She and her late husband, William A. Hermonat Jr., who died on April 18, 2003, had owned and operated the former Dairy Queen Brazier in Rochester.
Survivors include two sons, Jason E. and his wife, Mandee Hermonat, of Farmington and James E. Hermonat of Rochester; also three grandchildren, Nicole, Tori and Jesse Hermonat of Farmington.
As per her request, there are no services planned.
