Alice Atkins
CONCORD - Alice L. Atkins, 87, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at her son’s home in Rochester. She had lived in Concord and Bow for the last 21 years.
She was born in Bethlehem, a daughter of Ezra and Annie (McKenna) Lamont and was a graduate of Littleton High School, Class of 1932.
In 1936, she graduated from Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing. She enjoyed a 50 year nursing career at several hospitals, retiring in 1980 as a supervisor.
She was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church and was past president of the VFW Auxiliary at Post No. 816, Littleton.
Mrs. Atkins is survived by two sons, John L. Atkins of Crestview, Fla., and William B. Atkins of Rochester; an adopted daughter, Dorothy Stills of Rochester; three sisters, Mary I. Strople of Spring Valley, Calif., Audrey E. Theriault of Littleton and Cornelia M. Coffin of Concord; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, John L. Atkins, who died in 1957 in Miami, Fla., where Alice, John and their children lived for 10 years; and a sister, Catherine Keenan.
Visiting hours will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St., Concord.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 72 South Main St., Concord.
Burial will follow in Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord.
Caroline Brotherton
SALISBURY, Mass. - Caroline L. (Bromley) Brotherton, 86, formerly of Wenham, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport of natural causes.
She was born in Utica, N.Y. She was a graduate of Beverly High School, Class of 1935.
She met her husband of 61 years, A. Paul Brotherton, where she worked for over 20 years as bookkeeper at their family business, A. Paul Brotherton Welding. She was a kitchen and restaurant manager at the Wenham Tea House for many years.
She attended the East Parish United Methodist Church in Salisbury where she was active with the women’s group.
She was a dedicated member of the Salisbury Historical Society, was an avid volunteer at her previous residence in Melbourne, Fla., where she taught residents of all ages her prized and revered arts and crafts. Her crewelwork, braiding and needlecraft received many awards and prizes from various groups near and far.
As a needed and appreciated volunteer at the First Congregational Church in Wenham, she served as secretary and assisted with the many, various ladies’ groups for over 25 years.
Mrs. Brotherton enjoyed her activities and extensive travel across virtually all of North America with the Wally Byam Caravan Club of America.
She is survived by her beloved husband, A. Paul Brotherton, of Salisbury. She was a loving mother who will be sadly missed by her children, Richard P. and his wife, Rosa Brotherton, of Barrington, N.H., and Karen and her husband, Robert Palino, of Salisbury. She was a caring grandmother to 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Oceanside Family Funeral Home, 34 Lafayette Road, Salisbury.
A memorial service will be offered Thursday at 11 a.m. at East Parish United Methodist Church in Salisbury. Interment will be private.

James Buckley
DOVER - James C. Buckley, 62, of 13 Austin Drive, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at his home after a period of failing health.
Born in Dover on Feb. 16, 1940, the son of Paul J. and Leone (Collins) Buckley. He was a 1958 graduate of Dover High School. He then served in the U.S. Navy as a medic.
He was a life member of the Bellamy Chapter No. 5, D.A.V., the Dover Post No. 8 American Legion and a member of the I.O.O.F.
Prior to his retirement, he was a general foreman at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
He is survived by his companion of 19 years, Gloria (Berrouard) Bastille; his father, Paul J. Buckley of Dover; a brother, Robert and his wife, Kalala Buckley of St. Petersburg, Fla.; an aunt, Anna K. Buckley of Dover; an uncle, Robert Collins of Bedford; a step-daughter, Tina and her husband, Wesley Maynard of Rochester; a step-granddaughter, Deidra Jean Maynard of Rochester; a niece, Mary Frances; and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, corner of Chestnut and Third Streets, with the Rev. Fritz Cerullo, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary New Cemetery.

Mildred Chapman
NEWBURYPORT, Mass. - Mildred N. (Hudson) Chapman, 94, formerly of 30 Rolfe’s Lane, Newbury, died Saturday evening, Feb. 23, 2002, at Country Manor Nursing Home in Newburyport. She was the wife of the late Elliot Thornton Chapman.
Born in Newburyport on Sept. 17, 1907, she was the daughter of Arthur H. and Almeda B. (Nason) Hudson.
A longtime member of the First Parish Church of Newbury, she had been a member of the Ladies Benevolent Society of the Church and the Couples Club of Church.
She enjoyed reading, walking, traveling and was a member of the Gadabouts, the Old Town Squares and the bowling league of the YMCA.
She is survived by her son, Arthur E. Chapman and wife, Dottie of Newburyport; her daughter, Eleanor Morris and husband, Robert of Salisbury; her brother, Donald G. Hudson of Newburyport; her sister, Marjorie Castalano of New Market; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the First Parish Church of Newbury at a date and time to be announced by Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport.
Private interment will be in First Parish Cemetery, Newbury.

Isabel Colwell
SOMERSWORTH - Isabel H. Colwell, 90, of 207 Green St., died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Sunbridge of Rochester.
She was born Jan. 22, 1912, in Hampton, the daughter of Warren H. and Theda (Taylor) Hobbs.
Mrs. Colwell lived for many years in the Hampton and Stratham areas and summered at Plaice Cove in Hampton. She was a graduate of Hampton Academy and attended the Chandler School in Boston, Mass.
A homemaker, she was a member of the First Congregational Church of Hampton, the Order of the Eastern Star of Exeter, the Hampton Historical Society, the Hampton Monday Club and was well-known for her hand-hooked rugs. She moved to Somersworth six years ago from Brunswick, Maine.
Family members include two daughters, Carolyn T. Lydiard of Somersworth and Judith C. Parker and her husband, John of Brunswick; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Annie Elliott and her husband, Robert of Kennebunkport, Maine.
She was predeceased by her husband, William E. Colwell, in 1982; and a sister, Dorothy H. Cummings.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The family requests there be no visiting hours and flowers please be omitted. Private burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

George Donahue
DURHAM - George P. Donahue, 83, of Mill Pond Road, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at his home in Durham.
Born Feb. 27, 1918, in Biddeford, Maine, the son of Thomas P. and Marguerite (Griney) Donahue, he had lived in New Hampshire since 1947 and in Durham for over 40 years.
He was a graduate of Mt. St. Mary’s Academy in Manchester and Stoughton High School in Stoughton, Mass.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp and held the rank of captain. He was attached to the Air Transport Command in the C.V.I. Theatre, flying more than 60 missions over the hump. He received several decorations including the Air Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Distinguished Unit Badge and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He founded the Durham Specialty Company in 1953, importers and distributors of specialty foods and confectionery, and operated it until 1983 when it was taken over by his son.
He was a founding member of the Church of St. Thomas More in Durham and was very active for many years in supporting the church.
He was an avid gardener and bird feeder. He enjoyed fly fishing, was very interested in astronomy and was interested in and supported conservation and forestry. For several years, he was a little league coach in Durham.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Helen (Dolan) Donahue of Durham; one son, Kevin Donahue of Dover; a half-sister, Nancy Clark of New Ipswich; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Donahue; and sister, Rita Couture.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. from the Church of St. Thomas More, Madbury Road, Durham, with the Rev. Robert Biron as celebrant.
Burial will be in the spring in the Durham Cemetery.

Ryan Esparza
DOVER - Ryan Mitchell Esparza was stillborn, Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. He was the son of Frank and Crystal (Blanchard) Esparza of 114 Broadway, Dover.
In addition to his parents, he leaves two brothers, Frankie and Aaron; a sister, Lisa; his maternal grandparents, Jean and Frank Blanchard of Deering; his paternal grandmother, Betty Simmons of Dallas, Texas; great-grandmother, Marion Tewksbury; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Pine Hill Cemetery, Dover, with the Rev. David Slater of the First Parish Church Congregational officiating. Friends are invited to attend.

George Gee
LONDONDERRY - George A. Gee, 89, of Fieldstone Drive, Londonderry, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at the Sunbridge Nursing Home, Rochester. He was born in Kearny, N.J. on April 27, 1912, son of Robert and Florance (Cunliffe) Gee.
He was a resident of Londonderry for 25 years, formerly living in Kearny, N.J. He was a graduate of Kearny High School, Class of 1929.
Mr. Gee was very involved with the Londonderry Presbyterian Church and took part in the Bible study group. He was predeceased by his wife, Edythe M. (Stone) Gee in 1978.
He is survived by two sons, Norman B. and his wife, Anna Marie Gee, of North Lavalette, N.J., Robert A. and his wife, Kathleen Gee, of Rochester; three grandchildren, Laurie Gee of Strafford, Robert M. Gee of Westwood, Mass., and Ryan Gee of Philadelphia, Pa.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry.
Funeral services will be held Thursday Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. at the Londonderry Presbyterian Church, corner of Pillsbury and Mammoth Roads.
Burial will be in the spring at Glenwood Cemetery, Londonderry. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Helen Kellenbeck
NORTH HAMPTON - Mrs. Helen I. (Kasper) Kellenbeck, widow of Lester C. Kellenbeck, of 5 Lafayette Terrace, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at the Exeter Hospital in Exeter.
She was born in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, the daughter of Frederick and Mildred J. (Clark) Kasper and was a graduate of Old Orchard High School in Old Orchard.
Mrs. Kellenbeck was formerly employed at the Trafton Insurance Agency, Dunfey Insurance Agency in Hampton, Sears and Sam’s Club in Seabrook.
She was a communicant of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth and was a member of Rivermouth Chapter No. 54, Order of Eastern Star in Portsmouth.
Survivors include her sister, Isabel M. Kasper of Old Orchard Beach; her step-daughter, Leslie McIver and her husband, Neil of Plymouth.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, with Order of Eastern Star services at 1:30 p.m. by Rivermouth Chapter No. 54. There will be no visiting hours.

Edgar Soucy
ROCHESTER - Edgar J. Soucy, 86, of 29 Blackwater Road, Gonic, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at his home following a period of failing health.
Born June 21, 1915, in St. Eleuthere, Canada, he was the son of Omer and Mary Louise (Dube) Soucy.
Mr. Soucy came to the United States where he became a naturalized citizen. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1934-36. He was a veteran of World War II in the United States Army from 1941-45 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-60.
He was employed for many years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a sheet metal worker. He was a share holder of the Farmington Country Club as well as an avid golfer, he loved his farm, gardening and animals and had a passion for history and the aesthetic values of life.
Members of his family include his two daughters, Frances J. Soucy of Somersworth, and Christine E. Russo and her husband, Ralph, of Gonic; three grandchildren, Timothy A. Gould and his wife, Robin, of Lancaster, Eric V. Gould of Rochester, and Kimberly F. Gould of Rochester; five great-grandchildren, James, Matthew, Krystal, Brieanna and Zachary; a son-in-law, Phillip Gould of Rochester; five brothers, Armand J. Soucy, Rev. Louis A. Soucey, Leo P. Soucy, Joseph F. Soucy and Roger De Soucy.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary L. (Musgrave) Soucy; and three sisters, Rita Soucy, Marie Balzarini, and Evette Federici.
