Edward Kusnierz

ROCHESTER - Edward M. Kusnierz, 83, of 51 Evans Road died Wednesday Jan. 23, 2002, at the Sunbridge Health Care and Rehabilitation of Rochester.

Born April 10, 1918, in Chicopee, Mass., the son of John and Caroline (Kozaka) Kusnierz.

Mr. Kusnierz has lived in New Hampshire since 1941. He served in the United States Navy Seabees during World War II. He worked as a machinist instructor for Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of the VFW and the Crown Point Grange.

Members of his family include his sons; John Kusnierz and his wife, Linda, of Billerica, Mass., and Gary Kusnierz and his wife, Cheryl, of Rochester; his daughters, Rosanna Hoverman and her husband, Bruce, of Fairfax, Va., and Kim Swenson and her husband, Joseph, of Barrington; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Kusnierz of Worcester, Mass., Carol Brown of Rochester, Farah Kusnierz of Keene, Paul Kusnierz of Rochester, Andrew Hoverman of Fairfax, Va., and Joey and Gary Swenson, both of Barrington; a brother, Henry Kusnierz of Belchertown, Mass.; a sister, Jane Aalto of Lake Worth, Fla., and Lillian Coppola of Lantana, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Mary (Fickett) Kusnierz; and a brother, Teddy Kusnierz.

Donations maybe made to the Meaderboro Community Church, 83 Meaderboro Road, Rochester, NH 03867

Calling hours will be held Friday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the Funeral Home with the Rev. John Scruton officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball Cemetery in the spring.

John Moors

RENO, Nev. - John W. Moors, 48, died in Reno on Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, from injuries sustained after being struck by a motor vehicle on the Mount Rose Highway.

He was born in Rochester, N.H., on Dec. 30, 1952, the son of Dr. Charles E. and Jean S. Moors. He grew up in Rochester and Dover, N.H., graduating from Dover High School in 1970.

An avid skier, he and several friends ventured west shortly after graduation to ski and see the country. He eventually settled in the Tahoe City, Calif., where he resided for many years working as a licensed building contractor.

An avid sports fan and outdoorsman, he excelled at everything he attempted and especially enjoyed skiing, hiking, biking, golf and pool. He also loved baseball and the Boston Red Sox.

He is survived by his sister, Carole Reynolds and her husband, Bruce of Rochester; a brother, Daniel Moors and his wife, Ximena of Gainesville, Fla.; four nieces and a nephew; several grandnieces and grandnephews. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Charles Weber Moors.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Emmanual Advent Christian Church, Eastern Ave., Rochester.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Florence Thibeault

BERWICK, Maine - Florence M. Thibeault, 82, formerly of Allen Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at the Harbour Home in York following and extended illness.

She was born, Aug. 26, 1919, in Berlin, N.H., the daughter of Ernest and Sophie (Cote) Gagne and was educated in the Berlin schools. She moved from Somersworth, N.H., to Berwick in 1995.

Surviving are two sons, Philip Belanger of Dover, N.H., Robert Landry of Pittsfield, N.H.; two daughters, Marie Landry of Somersworth, N.H. and Olive and her husband, Ron Morest, of Wells; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a special nephew, David Sauls of St. Petersburg, Fla. and several other nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Laing Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester St., Berwick, with the Rev. Steve Poole, pastor of the Grace Community Church of Rochester, officiating.

Interment will be private.

Hazel DesJardins
ROCHESTER - Hazel M. DesJardins, 92, of 3 Outlook Lane died unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at her home.

She was born in Melvin Village on Sept. 12, 1909, the daughter of Fred and Hadie (Buzzel) Morris. She lived most of her life in the Melvin Village and Rochester areas.

Mrs. DesJardins was a member of St. Mary Church in Rochester. She was a graduate of Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro. She had worked as an office manager at Hubbard Shoe for a number of years. Afterward, she worked as office manager for Tri-State Gas Co. for 25 years and later for Eastern Propane for five years, prior to her retirement in 1965. She was a member of the Rochester Country Club. One of the joys of her life was her dog, CoCo.

Surviving family members include her beloved husband, Raymond W. DesJardins of Rochester, to whom she had been married to for more than 54 years; her daughter, Carol LaBranche of Haverhill, Mass.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary Church in Rochester. Burial will follow at Mount Cavalry Cemetery in Somersworth. Arrangements are by H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral & Cremation Services, 177 North Main St., Rochester.

Norman Fall

ROCHESTER - Norman E. Fall, 84, of 1 Dartmouth Lane died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born April 16, 1917, in Tuftonboro, he was the son of the late Virgil and Leba (Piper) Fall.

Mr. Fall is a life resident of Farmington, having moved to Rochester four years ago. He was a graduate of Farmington High School. He was employed at Farmington National Bank in Farmington, where he started after graduating, and later retired as vice president in 1983. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, during which he served as a captain in the 72nd Field Artillery and received a Battlefield Commission. Mr. Fall was an original member of the Farmington Planning Board, trustee of the Farmington trust fund, past president of the Kiwanis Club, member of the Farmington Country Club and the Appalachian Mountain Club, and had climbed all of New Hampshire’s 4,000-footers, of which he was very proud. He was also an avid photographer. He enjoyed skiing, hiking and boating.

Members of his family include his wife of 44 years, Jane (Cooper) Fall of Rochester; a sister, Ann Place of Farmington; a brother, Jim Fall of Brooksville, Fla.; 10 nieces and nephews; and 22 grandnieces and -nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Louise Stevens.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.

Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington in the spring.

Edith Helfen

ELIOT, Maine - Edith M. Helfen, 74, of 16 Pleasant St. died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H., after a short, courageous fight with cancer.

Born Nov. 24, 1927, in Eliot, she was the daughter of C. Edison and Elsie (Burrows) Cole.

She attended Eliot schools and McIntosh College. She has been a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Eliot and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Edith worked for many years in the banking industry. She started as a teller for the Maine National Bank located at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard before becoming assistant treasurer of the Portsmouth Cooperative Bank. She retired many years ago to enjoy her family and friends.

She enjoyed yard sales, gardening, housework and holidays. Her greatest enjoyment was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edith is survived by her husband of 33 years, Jack B. Helfen; her two daughters, Linda Pritchett and Kenny Edwards of Shapleigh and Beverly Hooper and her husband, Bob of Eliot; two stepsons, Michael Helfen and his wife, Donna of East Sandwich, Mass., and William Helfen and his wife, Emilyrae of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Brenda Becker of Eliot and Alison Pappas of Eliot; a brother, Alden Cole of Florida; four grandsons, Christopher Pritchett and his wife, Lisa, Preston Pritchett and his wife, Kathy Hayes, Heath Hooper and his wife, Karin, and Jason Hooper; five step-grandchildren, Amanda Withers and her husband, Matt, Jordan Helfen and his wife, Katie, Alex Helfen, David Helfen and his wife, Nikki, and Stephen Helfen; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, L. Arnold Martin, and a brother, David Cole.

A time of sharing and remembrance will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Eliot United Methodist Church on Route 236 in Eliot.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the York County Visiting Nurses Association, 15 Industrial Park Road, Saco, Maine, 04072.

Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine, 03904.

Stanley Semco

MILTON - Stanley A. Semco Sr., 86, of 235 St. James St. died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at his home.

He was born in Esmond, R.I., on Jan. 1, 1916. He had lived in Bergenfield, N.J., for many years prior to moving to this area approximately 15 years ago. He was a graduate of Rhode Island State College and had worked for many years for Gross Automat in New Jersey as an embroidery engineer. He had been active in the Masons, was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting.

His wife, Mary Gains Semco, died in 1997.

Surviving family members include his two sons, Stanley A. Semco Jr. of New Jersey and Donald R. Semco of Milton; a daughter, Tonya M. Brum of Las Vegas, N.V.; two brothers, Paul Semco and Samuel Semco, both of New Jersey; two sisters, Judy Lathey and Helen Semco, both of New Jersey; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main St., Rochester. The Rev. Robert Walsh of the Nute Ridge Bible Chapel will officiate. Burial will be this spring in Milton Mills Cemetery.

Arrangements are by H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral & Cremation Services in Rochester.

Henry deWildt
ALFRED, Maine - Henry "Bud" L. deWildt, 75, of Camp Road in Alfred, formerly of Eliot, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at the Greenwood Center in Sanford after a period of failing health.

Born in Eliot on June 23, 1926, he was the son of Louis and Anna (Krook) deWildt. He attended local schools, graduating from Eliot High School, class of 1944. Mr. deWildt served his country as a member of the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. deWildt and his loving wife of over 54 years, Elinor (Megert) deWildt, owned and operated the deWildt Poultry Farm on Hanscom Road in Eliot for over 38 years.

An active member of his community, he served on many local boards in Eliot including the Board of Selectmen and Budget Committee. He was very active with the youth of the community, serving as a Boy Scout Master of Troop 340 in Eliot and as a Little League coach. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Eliot and the Eliot American Legion Post 188.

After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Alfred where they made their home enjoying the community and their family.

He is survived by his wife; their three sons and their spouses, Louis H. and Joyce deWildt of Wilton, Maine, Warren P. and Abigail deWildt of Wells and John D. and Kathleen deWildt of Barrington, N.H.; his grandchildren, Victor deWildt, Angela Caler, Cynthia Dellarma, Kevin deWildt, Jason deWildt, Keri Ann deWildt and Kimberly Marie deWildt; five great-grandchildren; and three nephews.

A funeral will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road/Route 1 ByPass, Kittery, ME 03904. Friends and family may call on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Family flowers only, donations may be made in his memory to the William Fogg Library on Old Road in Eliot, or to the Alfred Rescue Squad, Alfred, ME 04002. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Dan Bushway
ROCHESTER - Dan Paul Bushway, 48, of 190 Chestnut Hill Road died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002 at the Exeter Hospital after a sudden illness.

Born March 23, 1953, in Rochester, the son of Germaine Bushway and the late Harold Bushway. A lifelong resident or Rochester, he graduated from Farmington High School in 1972 and later moved on to receive his bachelor of science degree in industrial technology.

Mr. Bushway was employed at Pratt and Whitney for the past 22 years. He enjoyed tennis and golf. He also built his own home.

Members of his family include his wife of 29 years, Lynne (Estabrook) Bushway of Rochester; his mother, Germaine Bushway of Farmington; his two sons, Paul Alan Bushway of Rochester and Jason Michael Bushway of West Palm Beach, Fla.; his stepfather, Earl Carpenter; his sisters, Kathy Condon of Farmington and Linda Quintanilla of Mexico City; his five brothers, David Bushway of Woonsocket, R.I., Chris Carpenter of Farmington, Mike Carpenter and Rick Carpenter of North Berwick, Maine, and Stephen Carpenter of Farmington; brothers in-law, Roy Estabrook of Monmouth, Maine, Michael Estabrook of Lyman, Maine, Stephen Estabrook of Limerick, Maine; three sisters-in-law, Karen Estabrook of Madera Calif., Susan Boisvert of Waterboro, Maine and Katherine Novak of Lewiston, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Profile Bank, 45 Wakefield St., Rochester, NH 03867 in memory of Dan Bushway, which will be contributed to The Jimmy Fund.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester, NH 03867.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Church, Lowell Street, Rochester.

Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Farmington, in the spring.

Jeannette Butler

SOMERSWORTH - Jeannette Butler, 82, of 60 Kelwyn Drive and formerly of 23 So. Blueberry Lane, Rochester, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at her residence. Arrangements will be announced by the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover.

Martha Carter

DOVER - Martha M. Carter, 86, formerly of 36 Birchbrook Dr., Smithtown, N.Y., died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Dover Rehabilitation & Living Center after a period of failing health.

Born Oct. 24, 1915, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of Simone and Lucy (Cazanza) Giraldi.

A homemaker, she was a loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by one daughter, Lucia DeDe and her husband, Doug, of Dover; four grandchildren, Cathy DeDe of Glen Falls, N.Y., Denise Poulin of Rochester, Brian DeDe of San Diego, Calif., and Gayle DeDe of Boston, Mass.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Carter; two sisters, Jeannette Catalanello and Josephine Bocchicchio.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave.

Those who wish may make donations in her memory to Wentworth-Douglass Hospice Care, 113 Rochester Road, Suite 4, Dover, NH 03820.

Gloria Jordan

MILTON MILLS - Gloria Jean Wallace Jordan, 60, of Milton Mills, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in Rochester after a short battle with lung cancer.

Born in Brunswick, Maine, on Jan. 3, 1942, she was the daughter of Phillip P. Wallace and Frances Urquhart Farnum. She graduated from Pennell Institute in Gray, Maine, Class of 1960, and received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of New Hampshire, Class of 1990.

Ms. Jordan was an employee for over 11 years by the state of New Hampshire as a child protective social worker with the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Children, Youth and Families, Rochester district office. She was passionately dedicated to the children and families that she served, striving tirelessly to make a significant difference in their lives.

She was a friend of Bill W’s for over 17 years.

She was a talented painter, having had her paintings displayed at a local gallery in Sanford/Springvale, Maine, and had won numerous prizes.

She was also an enthusiastic quilter and made many quilts for her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, counted cross-stitch, reading, gardening, shopping and spending time with family, friends and her two cats.

She loved camping and spent her summers at Potter’s Place Campground in Lebanon, Maine.

She is survived by her stepmother, Aldine Wallace of Solon Springs, Wisc.; a daughter, Gina M. Mandato of Portland, Maine; a brother, Kenneth Farnum of Rochester; and a sister, Jolene Wallace Elm of Wisconsin.

Visiting hours will be held Friday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerley & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.

The memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the home.

At the request of Ms. Jordan and her family, the scattering of her ashes will be in the spring.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Seacoast Cancer Center at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, 789 Central Ave., Dover, NH 03820.

Doris Dalton

SOMERSWORTH - Doris Dalton of 15 Sunset Drive, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at her home.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South St., Somersworth.

Lloyd Dodge

YORK HARBOR, Maine - Lloyd Pillsbury Dodge, 86, of Aldis Lane died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Sentry Hill after a period of failing health.

Born in Bellmore, N.Y. on March 22, 1915, the son of William C. and Lavinia (Hunt) Dodge. He was a graduate of Amherst College, Syracuse University and the Yale Law School in 1939.

He was a former resident of Chambersburg, Pa.

Mr. Dodge was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.

His wife Lorayne V. Dodge and three children survive him.

A Memorial service will be held in the spring.

In lieu of flowers it is requested that memorials in his name be made to the charity of one’s choice.
