William Miles

KITTERY, Maine - William Jesse Miles, 74, of Pine Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a short illness. Born in Pawtucket, R.I., on Feb. 13, 1927, he was the son of Albert and Marguerite (Schricker) Miles.

He attend schools in Central Falls, R.I.

He served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy in World War II. After his military service, he and his wife of nearly 50 years, Beverly (Sterndale) made their home in Kittery and raised their family.

He graduated from the apprenticeship program at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and worked as a leading man in Shop 56 as a pipe fitter until his retirement in 1978.

He was a communicant of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, N.H.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife, especially to Myrtle Beach in the winter. He enjoyed fishing and his most enjoyable time was spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly of Kittery; his daughters, Linda McMahon of Kittery Point and Ann Marie Miles of Somersworth, N.H.; a son, Brian Scott Miles of Newmarket, N.H.; two sisters, Dorothy Gagne of Cumberland, R.I., and Patricia Sardinha of Bristol, R.I.; five grandchildren, Sarah, Edward, William, Chelsea and Zachary; and two great-grandchildren, Catty and Trisha.

He was predeceased by his son, Steven Miles, in 1993.

A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road/U.S. Route 1 By-pass, Kittery, with the Rev. Gordon Allen, pastor, officiating.

Friends and family may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Phyllis Poole

NORTH BERWICK, Maine - Phyllis (Gustafson) Poole, 69, of North Berwick and a former Rowley, Mass., resident, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at her home.

She was the wife of the Rev. Walter R. Poole Jr., retired pastor of the First Baptist Church in Rowley.

Mrs. Poole was born in Lynn, Mass., May 14, 1932, the daughter of Albert L. and Alice (Johnson) Gustafson.

She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Kittery and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Rowley. She assisted her husband in his ministry in churches in Auburn, New Boston, N.H., and Rowley. She graduated from the Lynn English High School in 1949 and graduated from the Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, N.Y.

She worked as a secretary for the former Hills Store in Ipswich, Mass., and also for General Electric of Lynn and Consolidated Components of Seabrook, N.H.

In addition to her husband of almost 50 years, she is survived by four sons, David L. Poole of Dover, N.H., James R. Poole of Sanford, Richard E. Poole of Manchester, N.H., and Kenneth P. Poole of Epping, N.H.; two daughters, Jeanne Briggs of Springvale, and Alice E. Razucha of Northwood, N.H.; a brother, Robert Gustafson of Georgetown, Mass.; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, Main Street, Rowley.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Frank S. Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 14 Independent St., Rowley. Burial will be in the spring in the Main Street Cemetery, Rowley.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia Society; the Faith Baptist Church, 22 Litchfield Road, Kittery, ME 03904; or the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 305, Rowley, MA 01969.

Herbert Sprague Sr., former businessman

DOVER - Herbert E. Sprague Sr., 76, of 15 Richmond St., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Born in Sullivan, Maine, on June 27, 1925, he was the son of Herbert E. Sprague and Marguerite (Pratt) Sprague-Morrison.

He had resided in Dover for most of his life where he attended schools.

He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army Engineers in the European Theater. He worked for the former Morrill Furniture Co. and founded Sprague Floor Covering, Inc. He retired in 1987 after 50 years. He was also the founder of the former Spinco Laundromat.

He was a 32nd degree Mason, a 50-year member of the Moses Paul Lodge No. 96 F&AM and a member of the Shrine.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Emily (Allard) Sprague; a son, Herbert E. "Ted" Sprague Jr. of Alton; four daughters, Donna Veno and her husband, Norman of Manchester, Janice Bandouveres and her husband, Gary of Rollinsford, Gail Tsoronis and her husband, Jon of Barrington, Maguerite "Peggy" Clifford and her husband, Kevin of Dover; 13 grandchildren, Herbert E. Sprague III, Darrell Sprague, Kalie Couturier, Danielle and Andrea Veno, Brooks, Brent, Blythe and Jamie Bandouveres, Blake and Kerry Erickson, Jacob and Jared Clifford; a great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There are no calling hours.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family and private burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Lung Association, 9 Cedarwood Dr., Unit 12, Bedford, NH 03110.

The Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Beatrice Alty
SOMERSWORTH - Beatrice Alty, 58, of 402 Tri-City Road died Jan. 30, 2002, at her residence.

Arrangements will be announced by the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover.

Bremen Anderson

WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. - Bremen J. Anderson, 34, of Wellesley Hills, formerly of Madbury, N.H., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, in Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Born in Topeka, Kan., he was a resident of Wellesley Hills for the past two years.

He was a graduate of Oyster River High School in Durham, N.H., Class of 1985; of Whittemore School of Business at the University of New Hampshire, Class of 1989; and received his master’s in business administration from Babson College in Wellesley in 1992. He was a member of University of New Hampshire Sigma Nu fraternity.

Mr. Anderson was founder and president of North Atlantic Internet, Inc. of Mansfield, original member and chief financial officer at The Internet Connection, Inc., and former operations consultant for Arthur Andersen.

He is survived by his wife, Marggy L. (Donato) Anderson; his father, Edward T. Anderson of Berwick, Maine; his mother, Karen B. (Burke) Hasselman and her husband, J. Cameron of Parsonfield, Maine; a brother, E. Burke Anderson and his wife, Dawn M. of Medway.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Robert C. and Anna E. Burke of Wellesley.

The funeral will be held from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington Street (Route 16), Wellesley, on Saturday at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Paul Church, Wellesley, at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.

Visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.

Sandra Greenwood

NEW DURHAM - Sandra Lee (Gagnon) Greenwood, 57, of Old Route 11, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at New England Medical Center in Boston, Mass., after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 25, 1944, in Exeter, she had resided in New Durham since 1989, having come from Fremont.

She was employed by the Town of New Durham for over six years. Prior to that, she was employed by Santoro Plumbing and Heating of New Durham for over six years and she was previously employed as a supervisor for Ferdinando Insurance Co. in Manchester.

She was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors, hiking, boating, kayaking, camping, bike riding, ice skating and fishing. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and loved to cook and bake. She also wrote poetry and had coached softball at school.

She is survived by her husband, James A. Greenwood of New Durham; three sons, Daniel A. Deslongchamps Jr. and Jeffrey S. Deslongchamps, both of Candia, and Nicholas J. Greenwood of New Durham; a granddaughter; two brothers, Arthur Gagnon Jr. of Sandown and Gary Gagnon of Brentwood; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father, Arthur Gagnon Sr., and a sister, Julie Gagnon.

Calling hours are Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at C.E. Peaslee and Son Funeral Home, 32 Central St., Farmington.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the spring at the John C. Shirley Cemetery in New Durham.

Priscilla Lempke

DOVER - Priscilla A. Lempke, 71, of Bobcat Lane, Berwick, Maine, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.

She was born in Dover on Jan. 23, 1931, the daughter of Moses and Ellen (Leach) Fall. She graduated from Dover High School in 1949.

She retired from SouthEast Bank for Savings, where she had worked as a bank clerk.

She was a longtime, very active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carl F. Lempke Jr., who died Sept. 9, 1976; and a son, Edward Lempke.

She is survived by her sons and their wives, Larry C. and Elaine Lempke of Gonic and Daniel and Gail Lempke of Rochester; a sister, Marion F. Gregoire of Berwick; her grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer of Gonic and Brian Lempke of Rochester; and a great-granddaughter, Cameron Lempke.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Cataract Ave., Dover, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Anne Robertson, pastor officiating.

Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.

For those who may desire, contributions may be made to the Cocheco Valley Humane Society, County Farm Road, Dover, NH; or to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover.

William Pinard

ROCHESTER - William Norman Pinard, 72, of 316 Roberge Manor, died suddenly on Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at his home.

He was born in Bristol, Conn., on March 9, 1929, the son of William and Aldea (Rioux) Pinard and had lived in Rochester for most of his life, moving from Connecticut.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW and also enjoyed traveling which took him around the world. One of his favorite activities was visiting with friends each morning at Dunkin Donuts and George & Ed’s Market.

He is survived by many cousins including his first cousin, Florine Dodier of Rochester, as well as many close friends.

Friends may call Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral & Cremation Service, 177 North Main St., Rochester.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church in Rochester with burial in the spring in Holy Rosary Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 249 Canal St., Manchester, NH 03101.

Allen Smith Jr.

EPPING - Allen V. Smith Jr., 45, of Fisher Drive, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at the Exeter Hospital.

He was born on Oct. 26, 1956, in Portland, Maine, and was raised in Scarborough, Maine.

He formerly resided in Stratham from 1982-1988 and has resided in Epping since 1988.

Mr. Smith was employed at Northern Utilities for 22 years and was formerly the vice president and president of the United Steel Workers Union of America, Local 12012.

He was a member of the Gov. William King Masonic Lodge No. 219 in Scarborough and was also a member of the Harley Owners Group since 1994.

He was predeceased by his uncle Bud Smith who died in November 2001 and by his beloved dog, Lady.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jill A. (Workman) Smith of Epping; his father, Allen V. Smith Sr., and his mother, Edna (Wilbur) Smith, both of Scarborough; his sister, Sally Petit of Saco, Maine; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; two beloved dogs, Trixie and Ginger; and his cat, Tramp.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Epping Community Church, located across the street from the funeral home. The Rev. Wayne VanGundy will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choice.

Marie Frazer
NOTTINGHAM - Marie A. (Surette) DuLong Parks Frazer died Feb. 27, 2002, at Elliot Hospital in Manchester after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry Frazer.

She was born in Malden, Mass., on April 3, 1930, the daughter of the Surette family and was later adopted by Joseph and Olive DuLong. She lived in Malden, Mass., most of her life prior to moving to Nottingham 14 years ago.

She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Janet Kalar and her husband, Ken, of Farmington, Mary Bonser and her husband, Terry, of Nottingham, and Ruth Mingo and her husband, John, of Billerica, Mass.; her two sons, Arthur Frazer of Billerica, Mass., and Robert "Cookie" Frazer of Malden, Mass.; her sister, Doris, of Florida and her brothers, Irving and Richard, of Nova Scotia. She also leaves 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Harold Parks Jr. and the sister of the late Harold, Leonard, Lewis and Margaret.

A funeral will be held Monday, March 4, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Road, Billerica, Mass. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Theresa’s Church, Billerica, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are today (Sunday) from 4-8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in Marie’s name to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Interment is at the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody, Mass.

Arthur Page

BRENTWOOD - Arthur (Artie) W. Page, 75, of North Road, died peacefully at his home with his family on Friday, March 1, 2002.

A native and lifelong Brentwood resident, he was born at the family home on Dec. 10, 1926, and has lived there all his life.

He was the son of the late Oscar E. and Geneva Bell (Severance) Page.

A World War II Navy veteran, he was a seaman first class in 1944, and a former member of the Brentwood Police Department. He also was a guard at the Rockingham County Correctional Facility.

He retired in 1992 from Brentwood Furniture in Haverhill, Mass.

His family was associated for many years with the Brentwood Baptist Church.

He will be remembered by many for his love of his 1928 Model A car, which he loved to show in local parades. He was a gifted woodworker, making many articles for family and friends and also enjoyed playing bingo.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret (McCullough) Page, a native of Lurgan, Northern Ireland; two daughters, Kathleen Page and Marleen Hirscht, both of Exeter; a son, John Arthur Page of Fremont; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Howard Page of Fremont and Lloyd (Pep) Page of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Pauline Fox of Pittsfield and Eleanor McCullough of Effingham. He was predeceased by two brothers, Oscar Jr. and Herbert Page.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Brentwood Baptist Church with former pastor James Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at the Sleeper-Peterson Cemetery in Fremont.

A reception will follow at the church vestry of the Brentwood Baptist Church, on Route 125 and North Road.

Friends may call on Tuesday, March 5, from 4-7 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

In lieu of flowers per Arthur’s request a scholarship fund will be established for his great-grandchild Kaylin Page so she’ll have a loving gift from him.

The scholarship has been established at Bank North, P.O. Box 608, 53 Church St., Kingston, NH 03848.
