Dorothy Green

ROLLINSFORD - Dorothy Nutter Green, 93, died in Rollinsford, Salmon Falls, March 25, 2002. She was born in Salmon Falls, Jan. 2, 1909, the daughter of Dr. George W. Nutter and Bertha J. Nutter.

She graduated from Franklin Grammar School; Berwick Academy in 1925, giving her valedictory speech in Latin; and Bates College in 1929, Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.

Mrs. Green taught Latin in Newport, and Park Ridge, N. J. until 1939 when she married Fred Green whom she met at Bates. They moved to Salmon Falls in 1941 where she became a housewife and mother of four children.

She resumed her teaching career at Wells High School in 1956 and continued at South Berwick High School, Marshwood High School, and Berwick Academy. Although she retired in 1986, she continued tutoring students of all ages in Latin, French, and English grammar at her home until her death at 93.

During her career she received several professional awards including the Distinguished Service Award, the Alumni Award, and the Circle of Honor Award, all from Berwick Academy. She also was the recipient of the Greco-Roman Silver Bowl, and was named Maine Teacher of the Year in 1959.

For many years she was a member of the First Parish Federated Church of South Berwick where she taught Sunday School, participated in the Friendly Guild, and was one of the founders of the Yankee Thrift Shop, working there for 35 years.

She helped with the Salmon Falls Cub Scouts, and was a member of the Josselyn Botanical Society, the American Classical League, and the Salmon Falls Belles.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, and sister, Ruth, both in 1993. She is survived by her four children: Peter Green of Portland, Maine; Bethany Dumais of Somersworth, N. H.; Alison Wiggin of Houlton, Maine; and Faith Kenton of Willimantic Conn.; as well as nine grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, Apri1 21, at 2 p.m. at the First Parish Federated Church in South Berwick. Friends are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Yankee Thrift Shop, c/o First Parish Federated Church, Main St., South Berwick, ME 03908 or the Dover Public Library Locust St., Dover, NH 03820.

Irene Roberts

LEBANON, Maine - Irene A. Roberts, 85, of Lebanon, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.

She was born on May 20, 1916, in Lebanon, the daughter of Chester and Ellen Stackpole. It was in Lebanon that she attended schools and spent most of her life.

Mrs. Roberts was a 71-year member of the Riverside Grange. She was a past Pomona and State Grange master. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, and the Ladies Aid in Lebanon.

Bingo was a passion of Irene’s, she also enjoyed bowling, crocheting, and many years ago she tended to a beautiful garden.

She was predeceased by her husband, George Roberts.

She is survived by three daughters, Beverly and her husband, Raymond Hamilton, of Springvale, Linda and her husband, Barry Kreider, of York, and Brenda and her husband, Gary Powers, of Lebanon; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for Mrs. Roberts will be held in the spring of 2002 at Forest Grove Cemetery in Lebanon.

Lillian Szkutnik

MILTON - Lillian Yvonne Szkutnik, 88, of Pineland Park, died Monday evening, March 25, 2002, at Rochester Manor following a brief illness.

She was born in Hochelaga, Canada, on Dec. 24, 1913, the daughter of Arthur and Laurianna (Hebert) Lavoie.

She was a resident of Milton for the past 17 years, previously having resided in Manchester. She had worked as an inspector with Davidson Rubber in Farmington prior to her retirement in 1975.

She was a good, kind, generous and thoughtful person, who could always provide a great smile for her beloved husband of 67 years, Ziggy. They were happily married on July 27, 1935.

Mrs. Szkutnik enjoyed reading and playing cards, especially cribbage.

Family members include her husband, Zygmunt Szkutnik; a daughter, Paula M. Casey of Opa Locka, Fla.; a sister, Claire Vigneault of Manchester; and her very dear friends, Rob and Janie Swift of Durham, Chipper and Judy Nelson of Kingston and Ted and Linda Bessette of Northwood and their families.

There are no public services planned at this time.

Arrangements are by H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral & Cremation Services, 177 North Main St., Rochester.

Israel Vaillancourt

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Israel "Babe" Vaillancourt, 84, of Pine Street, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at his home following a period of failing health.

He was born in Eagle Lake, Maine, on June 22, 1917, the son of Israel and Marceline (Deveault) Vaillancourt. He moved to this area in August 1956.

He was a career military man, having served in the U.S. Army and then the U.S. Air Force. He served in both the Korean War and World War II. During his military career, he was a culinary specialist.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 47 in Rollinsford, where he had been a bartender for many years, and enjoyed the whist tournaments in the Legion Hall.

He was predeceased by his wife, Annette (Morin) Vaillancourt, who died Sept. 23, 2001.

Members of the family include his stepsons, Arthur and William Thomits; his brothers, Willie Vaillancourt of Connecticut, Camille Vaillancourt of Sarasota, Fla., Albert Vaillancourt of Indiana and Paul Vaillancourt of Fort Pierce, Fla.; his sisters, Cecil Morest of Florida and Leonett Voisin of Maine; a brother-in-law, Richard Morin; a sister-in-law, Ida Vaillancourt; many nieces and nephews including Joan Harvey of Littleton, Mass., Patricia Richards of New York, and Roderick Vaillancourt of South Berwick.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday at the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., from 9 to 11 a.m. with funeral services at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the family lot in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Rollinsford.

Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jack Yoho

PORTSMOUTH - Retired Air Force Staff Sgt. Jack W. Yoho, 66, husband of Joan M. (Currie) Yoho, of 15 Shearwater Drive, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in Jacksonburg, W.Va. on April 8, 1935, the son of the late James L. and Rosa (Scyoc) Yoho.

Staff Sgt.Yoho served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam, retiring after 20 years of service.

He was formerly employed at the former Hampton Coach in Hampton for over eight years.

Beside his wife of 19 years, survivors include his children, Penny Trimble and her husband, Darrell, of Kansas; Donna Forsyth and her husband, Steve, of Kansas; Winona Montgomery and her husband, Bobby, of Kansas; James Yoho and his wife, Sarah, of Georgia; Brenda Kennon of Michigan; and Becky Rasmussen and her husband, Nick, of Iowa; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four stepchildren, Hilery O’Shaughnessy of Kittery; Christine O’Shaughnessy of Eliot; Dawn Lagreco of Las Vegas; and Michael O’Shaughnessy of Portsmouth; two sisters and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth, Saturday at 2 p.m. Friends invited.

Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home, Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Lung Association of NH, 456 Beech Street, PO Box 1014, Manchester, NH 03105-1014.

Yvette Roberge
SOMERSWORTH - Yvette M. Roberge, 82, of 129 Colonial Village, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at the Riverside Rest Home.

Born in Somersworth on Aug. 22, 1919, she was the daughter of Hermas and Clara (Plourde) Pineault. She lived in the Somersworth and Dover area for all of her lifetime. She enjoyed cooking and crafts.

She was a former employee of the Clarostat Manufacturing Co.

She was a communicant of St. Charles Church in Dover.

The widow of Philias Ernest Roberge who died in 1989, she is survived by two daughters, Edna M. James and her husband Alan of Rochester, and Claire V. Roberge of Somersworth; two sons, Paul E. Roberge and his wife Patricia D. of Bladensburg, Md., and Daniel E. Roberge and his wife Janet M. of Berwick, Maine; eight grandchildren, Christopher James, Matthew James, Pamela Roberge, Peter Roberge, Andrea Roberge, Angela Roberge, Adam Roberge and Sarah Roberge; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Pineault of East Falmouth, Mass.; and nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Sunday from 6-9 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Monday at St. Charles Church, 577 Central Ave., Dover, with the Rev. Paul Gregoire, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth.

It is requested that there be family flowers only and memorials may be made to Riverside Rest Home, 276 County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820 or to Seacoast Hospice Care, 642 Central Ave., Dover, NH 03820.

Sandra Small-Allbright

LEE - Sandra Leigh Small-Allbright, 43, of Glenmere Road, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at her home in Lee.

Born March 25, 1959, in Salem, Mass., she was a 1978 graduate of Lynn English High School and was raised in Lynn, Mass. Since 1983 she had resided in Lee.

She was a teacher’s aide at the Newmarket Junior/Senior High School, and was the junior varsity girls’ soccer coach in 1995.

She was also a waitress at Newick’s Restaurant in Dover.

Sandra attended the Durham Evangelical Church.

Survivors include her father, Ralph Small and his wife Ruth of Palm Bay, Fla.; her mother, Barbara E. Small of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; her husband, Scott Allbright of Lee; a daughter, Cristine Marie Johnson of Lee; a son, Bryan Randall Johnson of Lee; a brother, Stephen Small of Lee; two sisters, Susan Mary Hart of Merrimac, Mass., and Deborah Ann Small of Salem, Mass.;and four nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Dianne Lynn Small, in 1990.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Durham Evangelical Church, Route 108, Durham.

Private burial will take place at the convenience of the family in Lee Hill Cemetery, Lee.

Flowers are acceptable or should friends desire memorials may be made to the Society for the Preservation of New Hampshire Forests or the Lamprey River Conservation Commission.

William Champa

DOVER - William J. Champa, 70, of 1 Abbey Lane died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital after a long illness.

Born Feb. 26, 1930, in Medford, Mass., the son of the Samuel and Margaret (Quinn) Champa, he had resided in Dover for the past six years previously living in Sanford, Maine.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Mr. Champa worked at Spaulding Fibre Co. and most recently Bay Head Products of Dover as production manager.

Among his interest and hobbies, Mr. Champa enjoyed oil painting, gardening, repairing cars and some woodworking projects.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 7 and the Club Victorie, both of Rochester.

Members of his family include his wife, M. Virginia (Korn) Champa of Dover; a son, Michael Joseph Champa of East Lebanon, Maine; two daughters, Paula Marie Champa of Rochester and Linda Ann Cranmer of Greensboro, N.C.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a brother, John Champa of Randolph, Mass.; four sisters, Mary McNeil, Margie Foley and Millie Fate, all of Randolph, Mass, and Dorothy Kasela of Brockton, Mass.; several nieces and nephews; and his dog "King."

He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Champa; a sister, Katherine Christian; and a nephew, George McNeil Jr.

Family and friends may visit Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Charles Street, Rochester, with the Rev. Francis Kelso as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lowell Street, Rochester.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, N.H. Affiliate, 309 Pine St., Manchester, NH 03103.

Aleithia Clark

SOMERSWORTH - Aleithia "Dolly" Clark, 76, of 60 Franklin St. died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover after a period of failing health.

Born in Somerville, Mass., she was the daughter of David E. and Gladys May (Labonte) Horton. She was educated in Somerville Schools.

She had resided in Leroy, N.Y, for several years where she was employed by the Jell-O Company and later General Foods.

In 1966, she relocated to Lyndeborough, where she worked at Hitchner Manufacturing and Rowse Juice Co. in Greenville.

She moved to Somersworth in 1972 and worked at Pease Air Force Base in the NCO club.

Mrs. Clark was a past president and life member of the LeRoy VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary of LeRoy, VFW Doughboys drill team of Somerville, Mass., Ladies of the Moose in LeRoy and the Eagles of Aberdeen, Wash.

She was a communicant of St. Martin Church in Somersworth.

Mrs. Clark enjoyed knitting, ceramics and doing other handicrafts.

She was the widow of Elmer Clark, who died in 1971. She was also predeceased by a sister, Delcia Silva.

Survivors include three sons, David Clark and his wife, Cynthia, of Hollis, William J. Clark Sr. and his wife, Pamela, of North Berwick, Maine, and Edward L. Clark and his wife, Karen, of Windham; three daughters, Faith Hall of Aberdeen, Wash., Priscilla McKenzie and her husband, James, of Pavilion, N.Y. and Theresa Clark of Somersworth; a brother, David E. Horton Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, of Kittery, Maine; a daughter-in-law and caregiver, Dorothy S. Clark of Somersworth; 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Roberge Funeral Home, 298 High St., Somersworth.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin Church with the Rev. Robert Biron, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in South Cemetery in Lyndeborough.

Memorials may be made to the Homemakers of Strafford County, 15 Rochester Hill Road, Rochester, NH 03867-1701.

Memorial service for Helen Ebbeson

EXETER - Helen (Selwood) Ebbeson, 87, of Riverwoods Drive, Exeter, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000.

A memorial service will be held at the Christ Episcopal Church, Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. Friends are invited. There are no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, N.H. 03833. Arrangements by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home.

Peter Perkins

PORTSMOUTH - Peter M. Perkins, 37, of 75 Longmeadow Lane died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at his home.

Born Jan. 6, 1963, in York, Maine, he was the son of Wayne K. and Gloria (Lamott) Perkins. He was a graduate of York High School, Class of 1981, and the University of Maine, Orono, Class of 1985.

Mr. Perkins was formerly employed in the Customer Service Department at Continental Cablevision for 11 years.

Besides his parents of York, Maine, he is survived by a sister, Paula M. Perkins of Portsmouth, and three half-brothers, Jonathan, Joshua, and Jordan Perkins, all of York, Maine.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Family flowers only.

Donations may be made in his memory to Betty’s Dream, 75 Longmeadow Lane, Portsmouth, NH 03801. Arrangements are by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home.
