DOVER - Ruth Goldfarb of Nothway Circle died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at the Dover Rehabilitation Center after a period of failing health.
Born in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of Max and Esther (Hartman) Goldfarb. She graduated from Revere High School and worked as a medical transcriber at Beth Israel Hospital and Massachusetts General in Boston, Mass.
Ruth enjoyed painting and was known as a sports enthusiast.
Survivors include one sister, Gertrude Sternburg of Somersworth; four nieces, Marjorie Fisher of Dover, Marijane Black of Billerica, Mass., Nancy Tierney of Lebanon and Maxine Luck of Woodland Hills, Calif.; six grandnieces, four grandnephews and one great-grandnephew.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Dr. Joseph Goldfarb and Benjamin Goldfarb.
Services will be held today in Peabody, Mass. at the Maple Hill Cemetery Chapel with the Rabbi Sidney Rothstein officiating.
The shivah observance and the minyan will be at Marjorie Fisher’s House at 23 Hill Crest Drive, Dover, today-Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Frederick Holmstrom
SANBORNVILLE - Frederick Weeden Holmstrom, 80, of Sanbornville, where he has lived for 15 years, died unexpectedly, Friday, June 1, 2001, at the Manchester, V.A. Hospital.
Born in Boston, Mass., on April 9, 1921, he was the son of Frederick A. and Anna M. (Weeden) Holmstrom.
Formerly of Medway, Mass. and Bellingham, Mass., he was a graduate of Hyde Park High School, Class of 1939. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, a member of Stenkil Lodge No. 52, IOV (International Order of Vikings) and The Viking Club, both of Braintree, the Medway Post No. 1526, VFW and Medway Post American Legion. He was also a member of Unity Lodge No. 62 F & AM, Union.
Husband of Theresa (King) Campbell-DeCamp-Holmstrom, he is also survived by three children, M. Priscilla Compton of Bellingham, Frederick M. Holmstrom of Franklin and Patricia A. Castellano of Washington; a sister, Dorthea K. Lundin of Quincy, Mass.; six stepchildren, Sheri Weisberg of California, Bruce Campbell of Delaware, Keri Ramella of Rhode Island, Kim Campbell-Movitz of Framingham, Mass., Scott Campbell of Blackstone, Mass., and Brett DeCamp of Wakefield.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Highland Cemetery, Norwood, on Wednesday, June 6, at 10 a.m.
Visiting hours are Tuesday, June 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home, 90 Curve St., Millis.

WINTER HAVEN, Fla - Edna Littlefield, 91, formerly of 8 Drew Road, Somersworth, died June 2, 2001, in Winter Haven, Fla.

Jane Miller
WHITMAN, Mass. - Jane A. (Sheridan) Miller, 66, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, in Brockton Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Richard C. Miller, who died May 11 this year.
Born and raised in Worcester, she was the daughter of Charles and Beatrice (Grout) Sheridan. She was a graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester, and was secretary for Robinson Thread Company of several years before moving to Whitman 38 years ago.
She was a communicant of Holy Ghost Church and was a member and office holder of the Whitman VFW No. 697 Women’s Auxiliary. She also bowled at the former Carlisle Club in Whitman for many years.
She is survived by three sons, Brian Miller of Dover, N.H., Steven Miller of Whitman and Gary Miller of Bridgewater; a sister, Mary Heath of Pembroke; two grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts VA National Cemetery, Bourne.

May Shaw
NORTH BERWICK, Maine - May A. Shaw, 99, formerly of Madison Street, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, in Main Stay Nursing Home in Sanford.
She was born Sept. 20, 1901, in New Durham, N.H., the daughter of Stillman and Cora Willey Lowell. After graduating from Rochester High School, she taught in one-room schoolhouses in Berwick, Alton Bay, Shapleigh and West Newfield.
During the summer months, she worked at Ogunquit Beach. Later in years, she had worked for Fiel’s Market and Dustin’s Market in North Berwick.
In 1922, she married Willis "Pete" Shaw and moved to North Berwick. For 10 years, she was the proprietor of the "Village Shop," a general merchandise store in North Berwick.
Mrs. Shaw had been a member of the Quint-Cheney Post American Legion Auxiliary and Nokomis Council of Pocohontas of North Berwick. For many years, she was a member of the Monday Night Club. She enjoyed gardening and especially her cats.
Her husband, Willis "Pete" Shaw, died in 1963.
She is survived by a daughter, Marlene Cuthbertson and husband David of Hudson, N.H.; two granddaughters, Debra Hanks of Hudson, N.H. and Gail Cuthbertson of Hollis, N.H.; great-grandson, Adam Hanks; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, June 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 7, at 2 p.m. Rev. Robert Cole of the Bethel Christian Church will officiate.
Interment in Hillside Cemetery, North Berwick.
Josephine Thorin
ROCHESTER - Josephine Junita Thorin, 94, of Rochester died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at the Rochester Manor Nursing Home.
She was born in Cross Creek, N.B., Canada, on Dec. 13, 1906. She is the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Gordon) Griffin.
She was predeceased by her husband Gosta Thorin.
Mrs. Thorin was a graduate of the Wentworth Hospital Nursing School, and used to work at the Gilman Professional Building in Rochester. She is survived by a sister, Mary Moss of N.B. and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Elton and Ester Vigent of Somersworth and several nieces and nephews.

Earl Tripp
FARMINGTON - Earl L. Tripp Jr., 31, of Horntown Road, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, in a single motor vehicle accident in Raymond.
Born in Dover the son of Earl L. and Grace E. (Cournoyer) Tripp Sr., he has resided in Farmington for 22 years, having previously resided in Gonic and Manchester.
He enjoyed woodworking, riding go-karts, and fishing.
He was predeceased by his father who died in August, 2000.
Survivors include his mother, Grace E. Tripp; a son, Timothy Leroy Tripp; two sisters, Earleen E. and her husband, Frank Ridley, and Linda D. Tripp, all of Farmington; three nieces, three nephews, several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Calling hours will be on Monday evening from 7 to 9 at the C.E. Peaslee & Son Funeral Home, 32 Central Street, Farmington.
The funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home; burial will follow at the Pine Tree Hill Cemetery in Dover.
Armand Huppe
ROCHESTER - Armand W. Huppe, 83, of 120 Charles Street, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at the Rochester Manor in Rochester after a long period of failing health.
He was born in Laconia on Jan. 6, 1918, the son of Wilfred and Exilia (Payer) Huppe and had been living in Rochester since 1990, moving from Carlsbad, N.M.
He was a retired aircraft mechanic and inspector with Lockheed-Fairchild Aircraft and was predeceased by his first wife, Leona Huppe, who died in 1988.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Elk’s and a member of the VFW.
Surviving members of his family include his wife, Jeanne Huppe of Rochester; a son, George Huppe of Huntington, Long Island, N.Y.; a brother, Robert Huppe of Rochester; six sisters, Irene Drapeau of Rochester, Rita Johnson of Rochester, Eliette MacDonald of Pelham, Yvette Burns of Barrington, Alice Alimi and Jeannette Alimi, both of Rochester. He also leaves one granddaughter, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main Street, Rochester on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Liturgy of the Word service will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Holy Rosary Church in Rochester with burial to follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery, also in Rochester.
Salvatore Longo
REVERE, Mass. - Salvatore A. Longo, 79, of Revere died on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home of Chelsea after a long illness.
Mr. Longo was born in Revere and lived here all his life. He was a graduate of Revere High School, Class of 1939.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II as an anti-aircraft gunner in the European Theater for over two years. Prior to entering the service, he was employed by the former Jordan Marsh Co. of Boston, now Macy’s, and returned there after the war and remained for a total of 49 years with Jordan Marsh as a controller.
He was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Jordan Marsh Co. and was also a member of the G. Mazzini Sons of Italy Lodge of Revere.
He is survived by his wife, of 59 years, Mary (Russo); one daughter, Mrs. Josephine Piccardi of Revere; sons, Michael Longo of Everett and Salvatore A. Longo of Somersworth, N.H.; two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Giuliano and Miss Anna Longo, both of Revere. He is the grandfather of Mrs. Anna Dinush of West Peabody, Miss Jodi Picardi of Revere, Michael J. Longo of Billerica, Michael A. Piccardi of Revere, Julia and Christopher Longo, both of Somersworth, N.H.; and great-grandfather of Megan and John Dinush, both of West Peabody. He was the brother of the late Angelo Luongo, Mrs. Josephine Zeoli and Mrs. Florence Zeoli.
A funeral will be conducted today at 9 a.m. from the Vertuccio Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Anthony’s Church, Revere, at 10 a.m.

James Orr
PORTSMOUTH - James H. Orr, 40, of Middle St., died suddenly on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at the Portsmouth Hospital.
Mr. Orr was born at the Portsmouth Naval Base on March 8, 1961, son of John and Evelyn (Beck) Orr of Exeter.
He was a graduate of Exeter High School, Class of 1978.
He was a veteran of the United States Army having served four years.
He was currently employed with the Congress Street News in Portsmouth, and formerly at the Hoyt Office Products in Portsmouth.
He served as the Rock County Treasurer, a member of the Republican Party and was formerly involved with the Exeter Speak-Ups Toastmaster's group.
Mr. Orr was an avid reader and movie-goer.
He is survived by his parents of Exeter; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Heidi Orr of Newfields; one sister and brother-in-law, Jayne and Daniel Veilleux of Exeter; two nieces, Ashley Veilleux and Brittany Veilleux, both of Exeter; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.
A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church of Exeter.
Burial will be in the N.H. State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.

Avis Sinclair
DOVER - Avis Louise (Foss) Sinclair, 87, died on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at Dover Rehab and Living Center after a long period of failing health.
She was born March 8, 1914, the daughter of George P. and Stella (Libby) Foss.
She grew up in Center Strafford and graduated from Austin Cate Academy in 1932 where she played cello in the orchestra and played center for the girl’s basketball team. In 1936, she graduated from the Exeter Hospital Training School for Nurses and proudly wore her nurse’s cap as an registered nurse.
In May of 1941, she married Francis M. Sinclair and moved to Exeter where she resided until her move to Dover Rehab in 1997 due to ill health.
She was employed at Exeter Hospital, Exeter, for many years and was one of the hospital’s first recovery room nurses. She also worked as the bookkeeper in her husband’s busy wildflower business for over 20 years, as well as working in Dr. Angelo Rocco’s Exeter home office for several years.
She was a former member of St. Michael’s Church, Exeter. She was also active in the Exeter Women’s Club and the Exeter Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She loved music, holidays, reading, crafts and going out to eat but her greatest love was for her family and dear friends.
A woman who wore many "hats," she gave of herself selflessly as wife, mother, sister, daughter, nana, aunt and friend.
She charmed us all with her sense of humor, no-nonsense style and independent spirit and never failed to surprise us with her many talents and ambitions.
She took piano lessons in her 60’s, and at the age of 80 she could be found shooting hoops in the driveway with her grandchildren. Her blueberry cobbler was always the best in town.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Matthew, in January 2000; her sisters, Phyllis Lynbourg, Leolla Turmelle, Dora Perkins and Marion Brown; and brother, George Foss.
She is survived by her son, Eric F. Sinclair; daughter-in-law, Andrea Sinclair; grandchildren, Kristin and Thomas Sinclair, all of Dover; sisters, Ardys Page and Irene Cafasso of Rochester and Theresa Hodges of Strafford; her brother, James Foss of Center Strafford; many nieces, nephews and friends. She will be greatly missed by all of us and as she used to say, "God love you!"
Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Burial will be at the Exeter Cemetery.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. from St. Michael’s, Front Street and Lincoln Street. A reception will follow at the Church Hall.
Norman Chase
CAPE NEDDICK, Maine - Norman B. "Skip" Chase, 87, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at York Hospital following a valiant fight with cancer.
He was born in York Beach on March 27, 1914, the son of John "Stuart" and Ardell (Brooks) Chase. He attended York Beach schools.
He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Shop 07, retiring in 1973.
Mr. Chase was a communicant of St. Christopher-by-the-Sea Church of York.
He enjoyed sharing his youthful experiences, including his trip across country in an old Model T with his Mom, Dad, brothers and sisters. He continued to play his harmonica following his stint with "The White Mountain Boys," a country-western group, well known in the 1930s.
He was co-owner and builder of Skippers Bay Cottages, located on Bay Haven in York Beach.
He was the oldest fireman at the York Beach Fire Department, having started when he was a young boy. His father was the first fire chief at the Beach and the family lived in the firehouse.
Mr. Chase was one of the founders of the York Senior Center Incorporated. He served on the board of directors for many years. He spent many hours of service and good times with his friends and cribbage buddies. He had a wonderful, fulfilling life with great memories and loving relationships.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary (Bisognani) Chase of Cape Neddick; one daughter, Sheila Chaney and her husband, John, of Cape Neddick; two grandchildren, Shelly Good of Cape Neddick and Kimberly Chaney of Montoursville, Pa.; one great-granddaughter, Lauren Murtha of Cape Neddick; three brothers, Herman Chase of York Beach, Chet Chase of Cape Neddick and Richard Chase of South Berwick; and one sister, Sylvia Hawthorne of York Beach.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held today at 2 p.m. in St. Christopher Church, York Street, York.
