Roberta Cox

NORWICH, Conn. - Roberta S. "Bert" (Hutchinson) Cox, 41, of Oneco Street died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at the W.W. Backus Hospital following a lengthy illness.

She was born May 17, 1960, in Berlin, N.H. On Sept. 27, 1986, she married David W. Cox, who survives her.

She graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1978. She was a certified nursing assistant who had worked for local nursing homes.

She was a member of the Lee Memorial United Methodist Church in Norwich. She was an avid animal lover who found great strength and comfort from her numerous birds, which she had hand-raised.

She always had time for others and greeted you with a smile.

In addition to her husband of 15 years, David W. Cox of Norwich, she is survived by her parents, Bruce and Patricia Bordeau of Dover, N.H.; a daughter, Chasity A. Cox of Norwich; a brother, Joseph Bordeau of Norwich; four sisters, Sherry J. Young of Rochester, N.H., Martha J. Tamborra of Norwich, Beth A. Beatty of Norwich, Shirley A. O’Connor of Dover; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Lee Memorial United Methodist Church, Washington Street, Norwich.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Pkwy., Meriden, CT 06450.

The Church & Allen Funeral Home, Norwich, is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Hartford

NEW DURHAM - Robert M. Hartford Sr., 86, formerly of King’s Highway in New Durham, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at the Garnet House on Central Street in Farmington, where he most recently resided.

Born Jan. 21, 1915, in East Rochester, he was the son of Louis "Pete" and Annie (Webber) Hartford. He grew up in South Lebanon, Maine, and resided in East Rochester for some years. He had resided in New Durham for many years.

He had worked in local woolen mills and rayon mills for many years and later worked in masonry construction for many years prior to retirement.

A member of the New Hampshire Fire Warden’s Association, he was also a member of his Local Union No. 976 and a past member of the Poco Moonshine Snowmobile Club of New Durham. He had a love for hunting, fishing and gardening.

He is survived by one son, Robert M. Jr. and his wife, Gail Hartford, of Middleton; two granddaughters, Connie and her husband, Bobby Marcoux, of Wakefield and Karen Hartford of Rochester; two great-granddaughters, Lynn Gallant and Christy Marcoux; two great-great-grandchildren, Tiffanie Gallant and Carl Parquette; and a sister-in-law, Gertrude Cox of New Durham.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (Maguire) Hartford, who died on March 8, 2000; one brother; and five sisters.

He will be missed by his many friends and the caregivers at the Garnet House in Farmington.

There are no calling hours. Friends are welcome to a graveside service on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to Rochester Rural District V.N. Services, 178 Farmington Road, Rochester, NH 03867.

Arrangements are in the care of C.E. Peaslee and Son Funeral Home, 32 Central St., Farmington.

Bertha Mann

DOVER - Bertha A. Mann, 91, of 307 Riverview Apartments, widow of Guy W. Mann, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Dover Rehab & Living Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road, Lee.

Sarah Reed

NORTH BERWICK, Maine - Sarah Hafford Reed, 24, of 306 Bauneg Beg Hill Road, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Portsmouth, N.H. on Nov. 21, 1977, a daughter of Mark and Shirley (Richard) Hafford, she had lived in Portsmouth before moving to North Berwick.

She was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Class of 1996, and was a student at McIntosh College, where she was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.

In addition to her parents of North Berwick, she is survived by her husband, Brian F. Reed; her daughter, Gwenevere Anastazie Reed, both of North Berwick; her paternal grandparents, Wilfred and Germaine Hafford of Hampden; her maternal grandfather, Nazaire P. Richard of Hampden; maternal great-grandmother, Rose Lagase of Levi, Quebec; and one sister, Danielle Rene Hafford of North Berwick.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Sanford.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, N.H.

Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Hampden.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an education fund for the benefit of her daughter, Gwenevere, in care of Mark Hafford, 306 Bauneg Beg Hill Road, North Berwick, ME 03906.

Kenneth Reynolds

ROCHESTER - Kenneth A. Reynolds, 69, of 36 Farmington Road, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 24, 1932, in Dover, the son of Albert and Grace (Pierce) Reynolds. He had resided in Rochester for the past two years previously living in Dover most of his life. Mr. Reynolds worked as a custodian at Garrison School for over 20 years.

Members of his family include his sister, Dorothy M. Lavrich of Rochester; and nieces and nephews, Tony Lavrich Jr. of Farmington, Joyce Bowen of Rochester, Johanna Garneau of Lebanon, Maine, and great-nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be held. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in South Berwick, Maine. Arrangements are under the care of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.

Ensley Tibbetts

NEWINGTON - Ensley Joseph Tibbets, 73, of 19 Coleman Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, a the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in Chester, Maine, on Sept. 18, 1928, and attended public schools there.

He was a member of the Newington Congregational Church and had served in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a shipfitter. He had also been employed as a truck mechanic for Hood’s and had formerly owned the Exxon station in Newington.

He was a member and past master of St. John’s Lodge No. 1 F&AM in Portsmouth and also a member of Washington Royal Arch Chapter No. 3; Davenport Council No. 5; DeWitt Clinton Commandery, KT; the Scottish Rite Bodies of Portsmouth and Dover; and the Bektash Shrine of Concord.

He is survived by two nieces, Terri Lynn Lyon and her husband, Richard E. of Newington, and Linda L. McMillen and her husband, Rex D. of Portsmouth; several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Graveside Masonic services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday by St. John’s Lodge No. 1 F&AM at the Newington Cemetery, Newington. Friends are invited.

There will be no visiting hours. Please omit flowers.

Donations in his memory may be made to St. John’s Operation & Maintenance Fund, 351 Middle St., Portsmouth, NH. Arrangements are by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel.

Judith Yudkin

YORK, Maine - Judith Ann (Sussman) Yudkin, 63, widow of Howard L. Yudkin, of 7 Ruch Lane, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at the York Hospital.

She was born in Portsmouth, N.H., on May 30, 1938, a daughter of Leo and Ruth (Goodman) Sussman.

She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1955; she did her undergraduate work at Boston University; and her graduate work at George Washington University.

She is survived by two daughters, Laurie Yudkin of Newmarket, N.H., and Debra Yudkin of Los Angeles, Calif.; and a sister, Nancy Alexander of Portsmouth.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Temple Israel, State Street, Portsmouth. Friends are invited.

There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel.

Mildred Alexander
DOVER - Mildred May Alexander, 70, of 14 Monroe St., died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center after a period of failing health.

Born May 28, 1931, in Dover, she was the daughter of Anslem and Mildred (Meserve) Fogarty.

She was a lifelong resident of Dover.

She was employed with Miller Shoe Company for 12 years during the 1950s and was a former life guard at Bellamy Park.

She loved music and art and was a member of the New England Square Dancing Association.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Robert Alexander of Dover; three sons, Dana Fogarty of Dover; Brian Michaud of South Berwick, Maine, and Scott Michaud of Milton; a daughter, Julie Alexander and her husband, Lawrence of East Rochester; a brother, Carl Fogarty of Gonic; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Gagnon and Mrs. Eleanor Hall, both of Dover, and Mrs. Florence Grenier of Rochester; and a dear friend, Madeline Proulx.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Norman Fogarty.

Friends and relatives may call Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 150 Central Ave., with the Rev. Robert Cole, pastor, St. Joseph’s Church, as celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Those who wish may make donations to the American Heart Association, 20 Merrimack St., Suite 1, Manchester, NH 03101-2244.

Albert Archambeault

DURHAM - Albert "Al" G. Archambeault, 61, of 180 Wednesday Hill Road, died at his home Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, after a brief illness.

Mr. Archambeault was born May 19, 1940, in Dover, the son of Arthur W. and Adrienne (Landreville) Archambeault.

He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a retired, self-employed painter. He was an avid bingo player.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of nine years, Terri (Wade) Archambeault; two sons, Noel of Belmont and Rick and his wife, Jan, of Lee; three daughters, Meagan of Belmont, Lillian and her husband, Francis Rawson of Rochester and Robin and her husband, Jeff Josselyn of Seabrook; seven grandchildren, Eric Archambeault, Jessica, Francis, Matthew and Crystal Rawson, Christen Archambeault and Bobbi Jo Keiling of Newmarket; three brothers, Richard of Laconia, Robert of Florida, and Paul of South Carolina; a sister, Beatrice; his mother at heart, Beatrice Cote of Durham; several nephews and nieces; a mother-in-law, Linda White of Winnisquam; and a sister-in-law, Gail Wade.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Joe Archambeault and Arthur Archambeault.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Burial in the New Hampshire State Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen at a later date.

Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one’s favorite charity.

Mary Cheney

ROLLINSFORD - Mary Ellen Cheney, 86, of Mechanic Street, widow of Glendon H. Cheney, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., South Berwick, Maine.

Ruth Emerson

ROLLINSFORD - Ruth Porter Emerson, 90, of 54 Old Mill Lane, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital after a period of failing health.

Born Feb. 10, 1911, in South Berwick, Maine, she was the daughter of Warren and Catherine (Agnew) Porter. She was a lifelong resident of Rollinsford and graduated from Dover High School.

She was caretaker of her farm, a member of Red Cross during World War II and was a well-known Rollinsford historian. She was involved in cemetery restoration and Rollinsford’s bicentennial celebration. She was author of Rollinsford Heritage with her dear friend, Florence Greenaway. She was former owner of Emerson Antiques, a member of Hiram Roberts Grange, Rollinsford Garden Club as a 32 year charter member, Rollinsford School Board, chairman of the Rollinsford March of Dimes, Rollinsford Cancer Drive and Rollinsford Heart Fund Drive.

She was knowledgeable with family genealogies and helped families in their research.

Survivors include a son, Lucius "Mike" and his wife, Barbara Emerson of Rollinsford; four daughters, Louise Marston and her husband, George of Fort Pierce, Fla., Katherine Blais and her husband, Henry, Betty Turgeon and her husband, Paul and Linda Turcotte and her husband, John, all of Rollinsford; one brother, Joseph L. Porter of Rollinsford; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a dear friend, Florence Greenaway.

She was predeceased by her husband, George W. Emerson Sr.; two sons, George W. and William W. Emerson; four brothers, Herman C., Thornton A., George F. and Haven P. Porter; and one sister, Barbara Magaw.

Friends and relatives may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Cole, pastor, Bethel Christian Church officiating.

Burial will take place in New Town Cemetery in the spring.

Those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Town of Rollinsford, Colonel Paul Wentworth House Project Fund, P.O. Box 309, Rollinsford, NH 03809-0300.

Robert Parnham

PORTSMOUTH - Robert Churchill Parnham, 86, of 85 Leslie Drive, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Portsmouth on March 28, 1915, he was the son of Arthur and Ida (Churchill) Parnham. He was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1933.

He was employed for 37 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Shop 56, retiring as supervisor. He enjoyed hunting and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Betty (McCarthy) Parnham; a daughter Althea Moquin and her husband, Ray of Newmarket; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Carrick and her husband, Don of Portland, Ore.; a stepson, William Powell and his wife, Ann of Pinellas Park, Fla.; a brother, Richard V. Parnham and his wife, Rose of Portsmouth; a sister, Alta Varney and her husband, Wesley of St. Petersburg, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Edna (Chevery) Parnham; a son, Robert V. Parnham; a brother, Earl Parnham; and a sister, Ida McKenna.

Funeral services will be held at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Visiting hours are today from 6 to 8 p.m.
