George Nickerson Jr.

ROCHESTER - George R. Nickerson Jr., 83, of Little Falls Bridge Road, died Oct. 15, 2000, in Dover. He was born Jan. 22, 1917, in Fryeburg, Maine the son of George R. and Irma (Alley) Nickerson and lived in Madison for several years before moving to Ossipee in 1955 where he lived until moving to Rochester in 1962.

He had worked for the Dube & Murphy Oil Company in Center Ossipee for several years and later worked for Rudy Perreault in Rochester and most recently for the Dupont Oil Service of Rochester.

He was a U.S. World War II Army Veteran and a member of the V.F.W. in Salem and the Disabled American Veterans.

George is survived by his wife Alice (Whitehouse) Nickerson of Rochester; a son, Brian R. Nickerson of Rochester; three stepsons, Robert Higgins of South Berwick, Richard Higgins of San Diego, Calif., and Warren Wheeler of Middleton; two stepdaughters, Marsh Strout of Claremont and Marguerite Phinney of Wildwood, Fla.; several great and great, great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wilford Nickerson of Preston, Conn., and Lawrence Nickerson of Chocorua; as well as four sisters Caroline Wilkinson, of Keene, Martha Towich of Groton, Conn., Emily Anthony of Tamworth, and Edna Stall of Cincinnati, Ohio; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Wendell Nickerson of Center Ossipee.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from Noon to 2 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Freedom.

Guy Spinney

BRENTWOOD - Guy H. Spinney, 88, formerly of Ledgewood Lane, Raymond, died Oct. 14, 2000, at Rockingham County Nursing Home after a period of failing health.

He was born March 14, 1912, in Boston, the son of Harry and Elizabeth (Centanni) Spinazzola.

He retired as supervisor form Necco’s Candy Co. in Cambridge Mass., after 36 years.

He was a communicant of St. Paul Church in Candia, where he served as Eucharistic Minister for many years.

He entered the Knights of Columbus through Asonia Council 1513 in Boston. He became a Charter Member of Hull Council 4865 in Hull, Mass., and a Past Grand Knight of that Council. He was an Honorary Life Member of both the Third and Fourth Degree. He was a Fourth Degree Member of Francis Cardinal Spellman Assembly 407.

He was a member of Ray-Fre Senior Citizens Club, and past second vice-president of Ray-Fre Senior Citizens Club Choral Group.

The family includes his wife of 62 years, Mary Emma (Andre) Spinney of Brentwood; a son, Guy A. Spinney Sr. of Southington, Conn.; a daughter, Rita M. Curtis of Manchester; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

George Wright Sr.

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - George C. Wright Sr., 72, of 18 Jewett Ave., died Sunday Oct. 15, 2000, at the York Hospital, York.

He was born Jan. 31, 1928, in Bath, the son of Herman Nelson and Dorothy (Breed) Wright Sr. and had lived in Bath prior to moving to South Berwick in 1959.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

While in Bath, Mr. Wright was a member of the Polar Star Lodge No. 114 A.F. & A.M. and while in So. Berwick he was a member of the American Legion Post No. 47 of Rollinsford, N.H.

He was a sales manager at Janco Incorporated in Rollinsford, N.H.

Members of his family include his wife of 54 years, June (Stover) Wright of South Berwick; two sons, George C. Wright Jr., of South Berwick and Ken Wright Sr. of Northwood, N.H.; one daughter, Linda Bradley of South Berwick; 11 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herman N. Wright Jr. of Bath and Donald K. Wright of Bath; one sister, Marilyn Anderson of Bath; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish are invited to make memorials in his name to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 346, Augusta, ME 04330-0346 or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2208, Augusta, ME 04338-2208.

Helen Wyskiel

MANCHESTER - Mrs. Helen (Kurowski) Wyskiel, 80, of Manchester, died Oct. 15, 2000, at Elliot Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in Portsmouth, the daughter of Vincent W. and Agatha Mary (Fortuna) Kurowski and had resided in Manchester for most of her life.

She was a graduate of Manchester Central High School and as executive secretary to the president of BankEast Corp.

Mrs. Wyskiel was a communicant of Holy Trinity Cathedral and held membership in The Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Maria Konopnicki Society, Holy Trinity Seniors, AARP, and auxiliaries of Tadeusz Kosciuszko Society and Polish American Citizens Club.

She was predeceased by a son, Frederick F. Wyskiel Jr. in 1998 and her sister, Wanda S. Kurowski in 1990.

She is survived by her husband, Frederick F. Wyskiel of Manchester; a son, Attorney Christopher A. Wyskiel and his wife, Cynthia of Dover; five grandsons, Derek Wyskiel of Exeter, Jeremy Wyskiel of Colchester, Vt., Ben, Sam and Seth Wyskiel of Dover; and cousins.

Calling hours are Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Woitkowski Funeral Home, 84 Myrtle St., corner Chestnut Street. A vigil service will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral will be held Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a requiem high mass at 10 in Holy Trinity Cathedral. The Right Rev. Thomas J. Gnat will be the celebrant.

Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Goffstown, where Bishop Gnat will conduct the committal service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Cathedral Building Fund or to the charity of one’s choice.

Margaret Buchman
SANBORNVILLE - Margaret "Margie" Buchman, 81, of Sheila Lane in Sanbornville, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.

Born Dec. 1, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y. she was the daughter of William and Anna (Finch) Miller. She had resided in Sanbornville since 1982, having previously resided in Westbury, Long Island, New York.

Mrs. Buchman had been a member of the Wakefield-Brookfield Senior Citizens, Wolfeboro Senior Citizens, Lovell Lake Grange, Wakefield Historical Society, Northrup-Grumman Retiree Club and the Frisbie Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret "Peg" White and her husband Richard "Dick" White of Sanbornville, her sister; Ethel Miller of Sanbornville, her brother, Arthur Miller of Holiday, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Edith Buchman of Sanbornville, also several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, William W. Buchman in 1995; and a sister, Anna Coster.

Calling hours are Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at C.E. Peaslee & Son Funeral Home 2079 Wakefield Road in Sanbornville.

The funeral service is on Wednesday April 18, 2001 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be later in the spring at the Lovell Lake Cemetery in Sanbornville.

Georgia Drew

MADBURY - Georgia Goss Drew, 71, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover after a long and well-fought battle with cancer. She was born August 16, 1929, in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of Constance (Woodworth) and C. Lane Goss of Worcester, Mass. and Madbury. She was the widow of Frederick E. Drew of Madbury and Barrington. She was predeceased by her son, David Goss McCaig and her daughter, Holly Armitage.

She is survived by her brother, Lane Woodworth Goss of North Andover, Mass.; three nephews, Edward Woodworth Goss of Wellesley, Mass., Charles Lane Goss II of Andover, Mass. and Philip Johnston Goss of North Andover. She also leaves her aunt, Mary Woodworth Sawyer of Durham, and cousins, Jenifer D’Arcy of Durham, Susan D’Arcy Schultz of New York City, N.Y., Sally Woodworth Gallagher of Concord, N.H. and Deborah Woodworth Edgar of Concord, Mass.; and two great-nephews, William Woodworth Goss and Edward Woodworth Goss Jr., and three great-nieces, Elizabeth Jane Goss and Sarah Staley Goss, all of Wellesley and Katharine Ames Goss of Hamilton, Mass.

She was previously married to Robert McCaig of Portland, Ore., and to Perley (Peter) E. Armitage Jr. of Gonic. She also leaves her companion of recent years, Alfred L. Moseley of Barrington.

She was a graduate of Bancroft School in Worchester, Mass., Walnut Hill School in Natick, Mass. and Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She was a fourth generation graduate of Vassar. Her great-grandmother, Mary Parker (Woodworth) in 1870 was the first New Hampshire woman to graduate from a four-year college and was also the first woman to serve on the Concord, N.H. School Board.

Mrs. Drew had been on the Board of the Strafford County Health Association and at the time of her death was an overseer of Walnut Hill School and a Madbury town officer. She had been a board member and vice-president of the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of New Hampshire, where she had been a long-time house manager of their historic property in Portsmouth, the Moffatt-Ladd House.

There will be a memorial service at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Dover at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 3.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Walnut Hill School, 12 Highland St., Natick, MA 01760 or to the Moffatt-Ladd House, 135 Market St., Portsmouth, NH 038001-3730. Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., assisted with arrangements.

Pauline Huff

SOMERSWORTH - Pauline Huff, 67, of Fremont Street died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at her residence.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Roberge Funeral Home, 298 High St., Somersworth.

Lucien Fournier

SOMERSWORTH - Lucien Fournier of 383 High St., died Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at his residence.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South St., Somersworth.

Ann Freeman

ROCHESTER - Ann Marie Freeman, 71, of 13 Schley St., died Monday, April, 16, 2001, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.

She was born in Arlington, Mass. on Feb. 4, 1930, the daughter of Jeremiah and Anna (Walsh) Mahoney. She was raised in Arlington, later moving to Dover and had lived in Rochester for the past 40 years.

Mrs. Freeman graduated from St. Clement’s High School in Arlington in 1948 and had attended Katherine Gibbs School in Boston, where she was written up as "Outstanding Career Girl". She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Rochester.

Mrs. Freeman was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved baking and cooking for her family and many friends, and her greatest joy came from feeding people. She loved children and many of her neighborhood children will call her "Mom". Her home was always open to anyone who happened by.

Prior to raising her children, she had worked for Dunn & Bradstreet in Boston, Mass. Afterwards, she worked for a number of years as a cook and house mother at the PHI NU Sorority at the University of New Hampshire.

She also worked for Austin Cate Academy in Strafford. She enjoyed crafts and especially going to the beach.

Surviving family members include her former husband, Lawrence A. Freeman of Rochester; two daughters, Cheryl Porelli of Howell, N.J. and Lisa Freeman of Loveland, Colo.; three sons, Stephen Freeman of Hampstead, James Freeman of Newburyport, Mass., and John Freeman of Rochester; a sister, Claire Jones of Arlington, Mass.; and six grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Bowler of Arlington, Mass.

Family members and friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main St., Rochester.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Rochester. Burial will be later this spring in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rochester.

It has been suggested that memorial donations may be sent to Make-A-Wish Foundation, c/o National Life, 1 Club Acre Lane, Bedford, NH 03110 Attn: S. Freeman.

Catherine Gallant-Dietrich

DOVER - Catherine C. (Bradish) Gallant-Dietrich, 80, of Dover, died in her home Friday, April 13, 2001, of natural causes.

She was born in Lawrence, Mass. where she was a longtime resident, she was the former owner of Prospect Hill Fish and Chips, and also worked at Cedar Crest Restaurant in Lawrence for many years.

She was a former parishioner of St. Anne’s and St. Patrick Church in Lawrence.

She is the wife of the late Leonard A. Gallant and Ernest G. Dietrich. She is survived by her friend and adopted son, Dorald H. McKenny of Dover; two sons, Gilbert Gallant of Dover, and Arthur Leonard Gallant of Nashua; a brother, Warren D. Bradish of North Andover, Mass.; five grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, many nieces and nephews.

Funeral by the Hart-Wallace Funeral Home, 107 South Broadway Lawrence, Mass. on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Patrick Church at 10 a.m.

Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend calling hours this evening from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment at the St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, Mass.

Doris Nadeau

DOVER - Doris L. Nadeau, 78, of Maplewood Avenue died April 14, 2001, at the Riverside Rest Home.

She was born in Dover August 24, 1922, the daughter of Walter P. and Christina (Young) Lachance.

Mrs. Nadeau was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.

She was a registered nurse having been educated in the Wentworth School of Nursing, Class of 1943

She worked in area nursing homes, most recently the St. Ann Home and Riverside Rest Home, retiring in 1981.

Mrs. Nadeau had been the supervisor in the obstetrics department of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Love of family and the nursing profession were foremost in her life.

Her academic career included Simmons College 1943 to 1945 and Boston Lying In Hospital 1952.

While in high school, she was very active in athletics, including making the All States in basketball. She also was involved in swimming.

Mrs. Nadeau’s community activities included, the Wentworth Alumni Association, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Girl Scouts of America. She was a member of the first Girl Scout Drum & Bugle Corps in Dover.

She will be remembered for her great sense of humor and her love of life.

Members of the family include her husband; Royal "Chickie" Nadeau of Dover; her sons and their wives, Marc and Shirley Nadeau of Merrimack, and Ronald and Rachel Nadeau of Barrington; three grandchildren, Christopher, Tracy and Bailey Nadeau; two cousins, Teresa and Carolyn Foley both of Dover.

She was predeceased by a brother, Walter P Lachance Jr. who died in 1975.

Relatives and friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home 621 Central Avenue, Dover. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday April 18 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Church, corner of Chestnut and Third St. Dover.

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth.

Family flowers only, please. Donations may be made to either Strafford Hospice Care or to Riverside Rest Home.

Leo Perrin

SOMERSWORTH - Leo E. Perrin, 91, formerly of 154 Green Street died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Rochester Manor after a period of failing health.

Mr. Perrin was born on March 8, 1910, in Lowell, Mass. and was the son of Alfred and Cordelia (Lavigne) Perrin. Leo had been a resident of Somersworth since 1933.

Prior to his retirement, he had been employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as an inspector with the Supply Department.

Leo was a communicant of St. Martin Church and was a former member of the Holy Name Society.

Family members include several nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters. His wife Emma (Roy) Perrin died in 1993.

Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South St., Somersworth.

A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Martin Catholic Church, W. High Street Somersworth with Rev. Raymond J. Moreau, a close friend of the deceased as celebrant. Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Cavalry Cemetery, Somersworth.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions in his name to St. Martin Parish Renovation Fund, Somersworth, NH
