Dorothea Plaisted
KITTERY, Maine - Dorothea Plaisted, 80, of Rogers Road, Kittery died April 16, 2001, at her home.
She was born on June 13, 1920, in Medfield, Mass., a daughter of Geroge and Sara H. (Fortune) Hughes. She graduated from R.W. Traip Academy in Kittery, Class of 1937.
An active women, Mrs. Plaisted was involved in the local Mothers Club for over 60 years. She was a well know fan for her children and grandchildren in all types of sporting events and attended them frequently. She was an avid bowler on the Lame Ducks bowling team of Portsmouth and was Captain of her team for many years. She very much enjoyed time spent with her family at camp in the summer. Bus trips, especially to Foxwood Casino were a favorite past time. She was a cross-country skier and enjoyed walking.
Mrs. Plaisted was a member and volunteer at St. John’s Church in Portsmouth.
She will be missed by her family, survivors include her children; a daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Frank Toby of York; her sons, Richard and his wife, Elaine Plaisted of Cape Cod, Mass., David and his wife, Kristine Plaisted of Kennebunk, Kenneth and his wife, Lynda Plaisted of York and Stephen Plaisted of Kittery; a brother, Charles F. Plaisted of Ohio; a sister Virginia Weaver of York; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles F. Plaisted in 1979, and a brother, George Hughes.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 20 at 10 a.m. at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road/US Route 1 By Pass, Kittery. Family flowers only.

NEWMARKET - Charles D. Saurman, 61, of Schanda Drive died April 16, 2001, at Exeter Healthcare. Arrangements will be announced by the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, Newmarket.
Margaret Stacy
DOVER - Margaret Stacy, 72, formerly of 17 Union Drive died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Sunbridge Nursing Home, Rochester after a period of failing health.
Margaret was born January 25, 1929 in Natick, Mass. the daughter of Albert W. and Esther C. (Gaffney) Anderson.
A mother and homemaker, her life was her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
She was a longtime resident of Dover, a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and a member of the Dover Women’s Club.
Survivors include one son, Earle C. Stacy III and his wife, Sally of Texarkana, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Dawn E. Duffy and her husband, Dennis of Dover; six grandchildren, Bernie, Rory and Meghan Duffy and Earle IV, Ben and Kathleen Stacy.
Friends and relatives may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover where funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Anne Robertson, Pastor, St. John’s United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will take place in Dell Park Cemetery, Natick, Mass. at a later date.

Robert Fortin
SOMERSWORTH - Robert Rene Fortin, 66, of 48 Green St., died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at the Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center after a period of failing health.
He was born on July 18, 1935, in Somersworth and was the son of Rene N. and Amanda (Martineau) Fortin.
He was raised in Somersworth, attending St. Martin Academy and was a graduate of Somersworth High School. He had lived in this community all of his life.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during peace time. Active in veteran’s affairs, he was a member of the VFW Post 4485 of Somersworth and the American Legion Post 69 of Somersworth. He was also an active member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Milton and a member of the Eagles of Somersworth.
Mr. Fortin was a self-employed carpenter and auto body repairman by trade. He enjoyed the outdoors where he loved to fish and go clamming.
Family members include Gloria (Larochelle) Fortin of Somersworth, his wife and mate for the past 25 years; two sons, Robert and his wife, Chung Hui, Fortin both of Austin, Texas, and Michael Fortin of West Lebanon, Maine; two daughters, Marie Dube of Berwick, Maine, and Mrs. Timothy (Debra) Chase of West Lebanon; his step-children, Rick and his wife, Diane Elliott, of Lebanon, and Mrs. Robert (Dawn) Gill of Gilmanton; two sisters, Mrs. Andrew (Alice) Gagnon of West Lebanon and Theresa Fortin of Somersworth; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by a sister, Irene DeYoung, who died in 1986.
There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin Catholic Church, West High Street, Somersworth, with the Rev. Aaron Pfaff, pastor and celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Cavalry Cemetery, Somersworth.

DOVER - Frederick E. Goheen, 85, of 6 Hawthorn Road, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Robert Neal
ROCHESTER - Robert Neal, 89, formerly of Barrington, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at the Rochester Manor.
He was born Oct. 29, 1911, in Dover, the son of Edwin C. and Myra Hanson Neal.
Mr. Neal was employed at Wyndotte Falls until retirement. He loved fishing and hunting.
He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial calling hour will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, with a memorial service to be held at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.
Paul Noble
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Paul S. Noble, 94, formerly of Wakefield, husband of the late Marjorie Knox Noble, died after a lengthy illness on Monday, July 30, 2001.
After receiving the Purple Heart in World War II, he returned home to Wakefield where he resided for over 60 years. He enjoyed his summers on Merchants Island in Gloucester.
He is survived by son, Ronald K. Noble and daughter-in-law, Julia A. Noble of Alton, N.H.; granddaughters, Cathren J. Witteveen, Christine E. Noble and Caren L. Noble; great-grandchildren, Calvin Witteveen and Isabelle Witteveen.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery on Thursday at 11 a.m.

Carol Penney
LEBANON, Maine - Carol J. Penney, 65, of Lebanon, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at her home on Cedar Lane.
Mrs. Penney was born on Feb. 29, 1936, in Rahway, N.J. She was the daughter of Eugene and Helen Schomburg Ludlum.
She attended schools in Westfield, N.J., and was a graduate of Westfield High School. She continued her education by moving north to Springvale, Maine, and attending Nason College. She would later graduate from Nason with a degree in fashion merchandising in 1957.
It was at college that she met her husband, Thomas Penney. On Aug. 3, 1957, they were married in Westfield.
Shortly after, Mr. Penney was stationed in Germany while he served in the armed forces. Mrs. Penney followed her husband to Germany and together they began to raise a family.
Upon their return to the States, Mrs. Penney opened the Evergreen Mobile Home Park in Lebanon. For many years she took care of and managed the facility, but above all she was a mother, a wife and homemaker to her loving family.
Mrs. Penney was said to be a brilliant seamstress. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and traveling across North America.
Her son, Thomas A. Penney Jr., predeceased her.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Penney Sr., of Lebanon; a son, David W. and Sarah Penney, of Crested Butte, Colo., and their daughter, Elizabeth; a daughter, Susan C. Penney, of Lebanon; and a brother, Kenneth Ludlum, of Md.
A period of visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred with the Rev. Rick Leach officiating.

George Robinson
RYE - George Maurice Robinson, 48, of Rye, died at his home on Sunday, July 29, 2001, of esophagus cancer.
He was born, raised and resided in the Portsmouth area. He graduated from Portsmouth High School.
He had a 25 year career working for the telephone company. He started as in installation repair, cable splicer and for the last 12 years he was a special service technician.
He was an avid car enthusiast and a superior Jack-of-all-trades. He had skied extensively throughout the United States, but by far, his biggest joy of all was the love of his boys.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; his three sons, Kevin Cantin, 14, of Quebec, Dylan, 10, Jackson, 6; his mother, Gloria Castello of Rye; his sister, Joanne Robinson of Rye; his step-sister, Judy Green of Oquawka, Ill.; and many other relatives.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, at 2 p.m. at Bethany Church on Breakfast Hill Road.
Donations in his memory may be made to cancer research.
Ralph Swift
PORTSMOUTH - Ralph G. Swift, 93, widower of Eleanor B. (Garland) Swift, of 238 Willard Avenue, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at the Mark H. Wentworth Home in Portsmouth.
Born in Lakeport on April 29, 1908, he was the son of Clyde H. and Bernice A. (Buskey) Swift.
He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 29 years, retiring in 1970. After his retirement, he operated a small appliance repair business.
He is survived by two daughters, Lorraine Palmer and her husband, Wayne, of Kittery, Maine, and Beverly A. Stewart and her husband, Edmund, of Exeter; a son, Robert C. Goodsell and his wife, Nancy, of Sanbornville; and his beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, on Thursday at 2 p.m. Friends invited. No visiting hours.

Mary Batchelder
DUXBURY, Mass. - Marie Louise (Hattaway) Batchelder, 84, of Duxbury, formerly of Hollywood, Fla., and Dover, N.H. died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at the Evanswood Nursing Home, Bethesda, Mass.
Daughter of Georgiana Plante and Thomas Hattaway, she was born in Dover, N.H. and was educated in the Dover school system. She lived in Hollywood for 20 years before moving to Duxbury three years ago.
She enjoyed designing interiors, landscaping and floral arrangements.
She was the beloved wife of the late W.H. Batchelder. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou O’Connell and E. Bonnie Opie, both of Duxbury; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several nieces.
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m., in St. Mark’s Church 261 Main St., Kingston, Mass.

Tracy Byrd
LOWELL, Mass. - Tracy Lynn Byrd, 38, of 569 East Merrimack St., Lowell, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Emerson Hospital, Concord, Mass.
She was born on May 13, 1963, in York, Maine, the daughter of Bruce and Shirley (Valentine) Woodward.
She was a 1981 graduate of York High School and a 1985 graduate of the University of Delaware, receiving a bachelor’s degree in art history.
She had been a librarian at the College of Physicians in Philadelphia, Pa. for eight years. She was most recently employed in child care centers in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
She had resided in Pawtucket, R.I. and Providence, R.I. for seven years. She enjoyed arts and crafts, reading, movies and caring for children.
Survivors include her husband of 10 years, Robert J. Byrd of Lowell; her parents, Bruce and Shirley Woodward of York, Maine; two sisters, Penny-Jo Phillips of Columbus, Ohio and Alison J. Thompson of Rochester, N.H.; paternal grandparents, J. Russell and Edith Woodward of York; a niece, Alison Phillips; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the First Parish Cemetery, York Street, York.

Dorothy French
DOVER - Dorothy Pearl French, 91, formerly of Oak Street, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Riverside Rest Home after a period of failing health.
Born Jan. 24, 1910, in Manchester, she was the daughter of Bernard F. and Mary (Rust) Sears Sr.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 8 and the Cocheco Grange No. 81.
She resided at Riverside Rest Home during her final years, where she received excellent, loving care and attention from the staff of Unit 4.
The widow of Leon E. French Sr., who died in 1969, she is survived by two sons, Leon E. French Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Northwood; Donald W. French Sr. and his wife, Claire, of Mims, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Strong of Dover and Mrs. Barbara Kageleiry and her husband, Harry, of Dover; a brother, Bernard F. Sears Jr. of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. Peg Roberts of Mickleton, N.J.; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Emily and Ruth Sears; three granddaughters; and a great-grandson.
Friends and relatives may call one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., with the Rev. Ann Robinson, pastor, St. John’s United Methodist Church, officiating.
