James Hill
LIMERICK, Maine - James A. "Jamie" Hill Sr., 36, of Limerick, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, after injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident.
Mr. Hill was born on Oct. 28, 1965, in Saco. He was the son of James H. Sr. and Sandra Watson Hill. He attended Limerick, and Waterboro schools and worked for F.R. Carroll in Limerick as a heavy equipment operator.
Mr. Hill can be best described as an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, camping and riding his four-wheeler. He was said to be a "jack of all trades". He was a member of the National Rifle Association and The Maine Trappers Association.
Surviving is his wife Heidi Hubbard Hill; their daughter, Monica Hill; two sons, James A. Hill Jr. and Christopher Hill all of Limerick. Also surviving are his parents, James and Sandra Hill of Limerick; a grandmother, Lois Watson of E. Parsonsfield; five sisters, Robyn Hill-Stitson of Limerick, Estelle Knight of Buxton, Selina Mead, Brenda Mead, Tracy Chase; two brothers, Brian Hill and Mathew Hill all of Limerick; and several nieces and nephews.
Ann Merrill
EXETER - Ann Merrill, 57, of Sherwood Forest, died Nov. 6, 2001, at her home in Exeter.
Arrangements will be announced by the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.
George Messier
SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - George J. Messier, 83, of 25 Buttonwood Rd., died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at York Hospital following a long illness.
Born Oct. 9, 1918, in North Hampton, Mass., he was the son of George F. and Margaret (Hourihan) Messier.
He graduated from St. Michael’s High School of North Hampton in 1936 and from North Hampton Commercial College in 1938.
Mr. Messier served in the U.S. Army in England and the U.S. from May 1942 through December 1945.
He was employed as a civilian by the United States Army Corps of Engineers in New Hampshire and Massachusetts from 1939 to 1974. He worked on the Franklin Falls, N.H. Flood Control Dam which was one of the first dams constructed after the disastrous floods of 1938.
Mr. Messier was an avid downhill skier from 1940 until 1996 and was a member of the 70 plus Ski Club.
He moved to South Berwick in 1989 from Arlington, Mass. He was a member of St. Michael’s Church. He also was a member of Great Works Council 10259 Knights of Columbus.
Family members include two daughters, Valerie J. Quayle of Merrimack, N.H. and Susan K. Hall of North Berwick; two grandsons, Mark E. Healey of North Berwick and Keith E. Healey of Nashua, N.H.; two sisters, Catherine M. Hopkins of Billerica, Mass. and Mary T. Lynch of Berlin, Md.; one brother, Daniel F. Messier of Catonsville, Md.; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Violet L. (Egner) Messier and a son, Steven M. Egner.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., South Berwick.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church with the Rev. H. J. Cameron, pastor as celebrant. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, South Berwick.
Those desiring may make memorial donations to the National Kidney Foundation, Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Clarence Pittillo
HAMPTON - Clarence J. Pittillo, 77, of 22 Tuck Road died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at the Seacoast Health Center.
He was born in Long Beach, Calif., on July 29, 1924, the son of Clarence R. and Esther May (Pensinger) Pittillo.
Mr. Pittillo graduated from high school in Long Beach, Calif. He attended the Golden West Community College studying business.
He was a 20 year veteran serving in the U.S. Navy as a chief engineman during World War II and the Korean War. After retirement, he worked for the city of Orange, Calif., as a heavy diesel mechanic for many years.
Mr. Pittillo was a member of Merrill’s Marauders. He was also a farmer for several years in Washington State. After farming, he went back to mechanics and raised his youngest daughter from 12 years old as a single father.
Mr. Pittillo was an extremely loving and caring man who loved his grandchildren and his country. He lived with several of his children over the years and showered much affection on them and his beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by his former spouse and lifelong friend, Rose D. Cooley of Grandview, Wash.; three sons, William Pittillo of Texas, Arthur Pittillo of Washington and Mitchell Pittillo; three daughters, Starla Boles of South Carolina, Teri Cooley of Washington and Daunine Mae Baker of Strafford; 15 grandchildren, including Tiffany and Andrew Cooley; one brother, Arthur Pittillo and his wife, Laura of Grandview, Wash.; two sisters, Leona Olson of California and Ruth Rothwell and her husband, Jim, of California; several nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom were proud to call him dad, brother, uncle, cousin, and above all, grandpa Pete.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Nancy Jean Pittillo, three brothers and one sister.
Graveside services will be held at the Ft. Rosecrans Veteran’s Cemetery, San Diego, Calif., at the convenience of the family. The family requests that there be no visiting hours and that flowers please be omitted.

Donna Reynolds
PORTSMOUTH - Mrs. Donna M. (Zilch) Reynolds, 63, of 77 Marne Ave., passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Aug. 19, 1938, the daughter of Arthur and Mildred (Stauch) Zilch.
She was a dedicated, devoted and self-sacrificing mother and grandmother. Her faith in God sustained her throughout her life. Her strength, kindness, thoughtfulness and compassion touched the lives of everyone she knew or met. She was a renowned seamstress and would often donate many of her hand made items to various organizations, such as Birthright where she was actively involved.
She is survived by her husband, Jay S. Reynolds Jr.; her four children, Donna M. Edwards and her husband, Jayce, and their three children, Malia, Evan and Ben; Marianne P. Johnston and her husband, Ray, and their two children, Cody and Jennifer; Jennifer L. Edwards and her husband, Mike, and their son, Cameron; and Jay S. Reynolds III and his wife, Abby.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Rye Bethany Congregational Church, 580 Washington Rd., Rye.Friends invited. No visiting hours. Flowers will be accepted.

Lloyd Roussel
SOMERSWORTH - "Sonny" Lloyd George Roussel, 68, of 28 Franklin St., died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at the V.A. Hospital in Manchester after a period of failing health.
Born July 23, 1933, in Dover, he was the son of George and Sadie (Follett) Holt Roussel.
He lived in the Dover/Somersworth area and was a Somersworth resident for 20 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War from 1953 to 1955 serving with Company 618 Medical Corps.
He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V. and the Dover Lodge of Moose. He was also a member of the Somersworth American Legion Post 69 and life member VFW of Somersworth.
He was employed as a general worker in local shoe shops including Continental Shoe, Miller Shoe, Weiss-Lawrence, Duchess, Rollinsford Shoe, Tiara and Dover Shoe, retiring in 1980. He is survived by a brother, Edward J. Roussel of Somersworth; a sister, Beatrice Brown of Dover; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Lillian Fraser, who died in 1988.
There will be no calling hours.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Pine Hill Cemetery with Rev. Paul Gregoire, pastor, St. Charles Church, officiating.

Carolyn Wilson
FARMINGTON - Carolyn Lee Wilson, 54, of 540 Route 11 died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital, Rochester.
She was born, Jan. 27, 1947, in Rochester and was the daughter of George and Estelle (LaVallee) Blackadar. She was raised in Rochester, attending schools in that community. She was a graduate of Spaulding High School. She lived in the Dover and Rochester area most of her life and moved to this community three years ago.
Mrs. Wilson was employed with the McGinnis Home in Berwick, Maine where she had been a nurses aid for many years.
Besides her love of work she enjoyed her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
Family members include her mother, Estelle Blackadar of Rochester; a son, Jeffrey Locke of Patterson, N.J.; three daughter, Mrs. Alec (Jody) Clippert of Berwick, Maine, Jennifer Raftery of Farmington and Mrs. Brian (Jacqueline) Snyder of New Durham; a step-daughter, Laurie Wilson of Grand Rapids, Mich.; five grandchildren, Ryan, Kristan, Courtney Clippert, Devin Cervantes and Lindsey Wilson; one brother, Wayne and his wife, Kathy Blackadar, of Wilmington, Vt.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Wilson who died in 1998.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South St., Somersworth.
Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Brownsville Cemetery, Windsor, Vt.

Gerald Berounsky Jr.
BERWICK, Maine - Gerald William Berounsky Jr., 66, of Pine Hill Road, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001.
Born in Portsmouth, N.H., on Dec. 24, 1934, he was a son of Gerald W. Berounsky Sr. and Francis R. (Varney) Berounsky.
He was a lifelong resident of Portsmouth attending local schools. He served his country as a member of the Army National Guard in Portsmouth.
A business man in Portsmouth for many years, he owned and operated Portsmouth Radiator Company on Vaughn Street and then on Mirona Road. He also enjoyed being an autobody mechanic.
Mr. Berounsky was a member of the American Legion Post of Portsmouth and enjoyed a wide variety of past time activities, including stock car racing, painting and skin diving.
He especially enjoyed boating and fishing, as well as watching the ice races at Milton Three Ponds. He enjoyed hovercraft, previously owning a hovercraft dealership.
He is survived by his wife Sandra L. (Frost) Berounsky of Berwick; sons, Gerald Reynolds and his wife, Terry, of East Lebanon, and Eric Berounsky of Missouri; a stepson, Robert Patterson Jr. of Portsmouth; two daughters, Carol Johnson of Strafford, N.H., and Tracy Patstone of Berwick; two brothers, Richard and his wife, Mona Berounsky, of Eliot, and Charles and his wife, Dorothy, of Greenland, N.H.; two sisters and their husbands, Sharon and Greg Jassmond of Kittery and Pamela and Maurice Bisson of Burlington, Vt.; a brother-in-law, David Higgins of Kittery; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sons, Edward Reynolds and John and Charles Berounsky; and a sister, Karen Higgins of Kittery.

Lillian Buck
DOVER - Lillian M. Buck, 87, of Dover, died suddenly on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.
She was born on May 19, 1914, in New York City, the daughter of the late Henry Hofbauer and Lillian (Ackerman) Hofbauer.
Mrs. Buck was widowed by her husband, John David Buck. She dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren, loved to cook, and was an avid baseball fan.
Mrs. Buck was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Cyosset, N.Y., and regularly attended the Barrington Evangelical Free Church in Barrington.
Survivors include four sons, John D. Buck Jr. and his wife, Rachael, of Westbury, N.Y., Timothy J. Buck and his wife, Cynthia, of Dover, Steven H. Buck and his wife, Leah, of Safety Harbor, Fla., and Daniel R. Buck and his wife, Margery of Chesapeake, Va.; a brother, Howard Hofbauer of Belfast, Maine; a sister, Viola Maher of Centerport, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Graham Buck, Stephanie Buck, John D. Buck III, Peter Buck, David Buck and Amanda Buck.
Mrs. Buck was also predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Kent.

Merle Cook
MILTON - Merle L. Cook, 52, of Dawson Street in Milton, died on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at home, due to ALS.
Born Sept. 4, 1949, in Milton, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Mary (Ramsey) Stowe. She had resided in Milton for most of her life and was a graduate of Nute High School in Milton, Class of 1967.
A homemaker, she had worked as a seamstress for the former Mrs. Pappas Dress Shop of Dover and had worked as a bartender at the Milton Moose Lodge.
She attended the Nute Ridge Bible Chapel and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Milton Moose Lodge, actively involved with their charities. She was also involved with the annual Milton Winter Carnival.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond N. Cook of Milton and her daughter, Amy Cook of Milton; three step-children, Kimberly Avery of Milton, Ronald Cook of Milton and Eric Cook of Dover, eight step-grandchildren and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at C.E. Peaslee & Son Funeral Home, 32 Central St., Farmington.
The funeral service will be on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Arnold, pastor of the Nute Ridge Bible Chapel, officiating. Interment will follow at Milton Mills Cemetery.

John Despres Jr.
YORK HARBOR, Maine - John Baptiste Despres, Jr., 85, of Victoria Court in York Harbor, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at York Hospital from complications of Parkinson’s disease.
Born Aug. 31, 1916, in Rumford he was the son of John B. Despres Sr. and Oselie (Arsenault) Despres. He and his family moved to New Brunswick, Canada at an early age where he was educated.
Early in life he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, spending several years at the Chatham Maine Camp. He served his country as a member of the United State Navy in World War II.
Mr. Despres was an electrician in Shop 6 of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard before his retirement in 1978.
Mr. Despres and his wife lived in Kittery for over 50 years and were original members of the Metting House Village Community in Kittery, they enjoyed almost ten years of residence at the village making many friends.
He is survived by a son, J. Thomas Despres of Marblehead, Mass; two daughters, Louise Benham of Rochester, N.H. and Mary Ann Hamel of Gorham; two brothers, Gerard Despres of Suncook, N.H., and Louis Despres of Ware, Mass; a sister, Geraldine Perry of Bethel, Vt.; five grandchildren; a nephew, Thomas R. Power of Milton, Mass and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased in July 2001, by his loving wife of over 60 years, Geraldine (Robichaud) Despres.
