Walter Kimball
KITTERY, Maine - Walter Hillburn Kimball, 78, of Brave Boat Harbor Road, Kittery Point, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at his home.
Born in Kittery Point on July 9, 1923, he was a son of Everett and Harriet (Estes) Kimball.
A lifelong resident of Kittery Point, he was a graduate of R.W. Traip Academy in 1941.
Known as "Nip," he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army from 1941-1945 and earning a Purple Heart. He retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1978 after over 31 years of service.
Mr. Kimball enjoyed clamming, serving as the Town of Kittery Clam Warden many years ago.
He is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Joyce (Bilbruc) Kimball of Kittery Point; a son, Michael Kimball of Rye, N.H.; a daughter, Cheryl Elaine Kimball of Middleton, N.H.; an older brother, Clarence and his wife, Jean Kimball of Sebastian, Fla.; a younger brother, Everett Jr. and his wife, Barbara Kimball of York; three grandsons; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson.
A funeral will be held Thursday at 12 noon at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road/U.S. Route 1 By-pass, Kittery. Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. until the start of the service at noon. Family flowers only.
Donations may be made in his memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, Kittery.
Theresa MacKay
DOVER - Theresa Marie MacKay, 73, of 5 Tanglewood Drive, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital after a period of failing health.
Born Aug. 23, 1928, in Cambridge, Mass., she was the daughter of Francis T. and Mary (Blouin) O’Brien.
A mother and homemaker, she was an avid bingo player, loved to cook and loved spending time caring for her family.
She is survived by her husband, George E. MacKay of Dover; two sons, Timothy E. MacKay of Queens, N.Y., and Dennis M. MacKay of Dover; one daughter, Jean Marie Spence and her husband, Ronald of Rochester; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Francis, Peter and Paul O’Brien; and one sister, Anita Roy.
Friends and relatives may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Fritz J. Cerullo, O.S.A. pastor, St. Mary’s Church, officiating.

Albert Massey
OSSIPEE Albert F. Massey, 69, of County Farm Road, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at the Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee where he has been a resident since 1969.
Born in Wolfeboro on Feb. 18, 1932, the son of William and Barbara (Young) Massey, he had lived in Wolfeboro all of his life until he became a resident at Mountain View Nursing Home.
He is survived by a brother, Roland Massey of Rochester; a sister, Jean Rankin of Fortville, Ind.; several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Pine Hill Cemetery in Wolfeboro. The Rev. Wilbur Hartford will officiate.
The Baker-Gagne Funeral Homes and Cremation Service of Wolfeboro and West Ossipee are in charge of the arrangements.
Susan Michaud
NORTH BERWICK, Maine - Susan Elizabeth (Bryant) Michaud, 50, of Wells Street, formerly of Sanford, died unexpectedly at home on Nov. 9, 2001.
She was born in Coquille, Ore., on Nov. 18, 1950, a daughter of Fritz and Lonella (Polston) Kerber, and attended schools there.
She had been employed formerly with Vishay Sprague in Sanford, and at the time of her death with NAPA in Somersworth, N.H.
Survivors include her husband of four years, Raymond L. Michaud of North Berwick; her mother of Dallas, Ore.; a son, Willy Mertz of Milton, N.H.; a daughter, Winnie Dubois of Rochester, N.H.; two stepsons, David Michaud and Andrew Michaud, both of Sanford; two stepdaughters, Melanie Hamilton of Belmont, N.H. and Amy-Lynn Michaud of Sanford; two brothers, three sisters, and seven grandchildren.
A visiting hour was held at 10 a.m. this morning at the LaFrance-Lambert Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.
Tina Parent
BERWICK, Maine - Tina M. Parent, 41, of Ridlon Road, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at the Rochester Manor following a brief illness.
Tina was born, July 29, 1960, in Dover, N.H., the daughter of Francis and Alma (Norton) Fortier and had resided in Berwick for the past four years moving here from Rochester, N.H. She was educated in the Somersworth, N.H. schools and was employed for 11 years at Cabletron in Rochester and then she had been employed at Eigenlight Fiber Optic of Somersworth.
Surviving are her husband, James A. Parent of Berwick; her mother, Alma Fortier of Dover; a son, Jason Duquette of Berwick; a daughter, Angela Duquette; a granddaughter, Kayla; a brother, Robert Badger of Corning, Iowa; two sisters, Diane Callahan of Berwick and Debbie Fernald of Dover, N.H.
She was predeceased by her father Francis in 1995.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Laing Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester St., Berwick. A Memorial funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Chapel with the Rev. Ronald German, pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Lebanon, officiating.
Norman Rich
BIDDEFORD, Maine - Norman H. Rich, 78, died on November 5, 2001 in Biddeford.
Mr. Rich was born in Reading, Mass., on March 7, 1923, the son of Leon C. and Marion (Sawyer) Rich. He was educated in Saugus, Mass. and Calvin Coolidge College in Boston, Mass.
Mr. Rich was a 20 year veteran of the U.S. Army and had lived and retired in Alfred, Maine for the past 35 years. He attended the Church of the Redeemer, in Rochester, N.H. He was the brother of retired Lt. Col. Mahlon S. Rich of Spring Hill, Fla.
He was predeceased by a brother, Leon C. Jr. Rich, of San Francisco, Calif. Surviving are several loving nieces and nephews.
Mary Ross
NEWMARKET - Mary Manning Ross, 76, a resident of the Pines of Newmarket Assisted Living Facility, died at the Exeter Regional Hospital on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, after a long and courageous bout with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born on April 17, 1925, near Jamesville, N.C., the daughter of Archibald Edwin and Lena Bell (Leggett) Manning, she was raised on the family farm along with three brothers and two sisters. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She attended East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. and worked as a civilian employee for the U.S. Navy during World War II. She taught high school in Jamesville after the war. She also worked for the State of North Carolina for 30 years, first as a secretary and then as a counselor for Vocational Rehabilitation.
She was particularly fond of traveling the back roads of eastern North Carolina looking for job placement opportunities for the mentally and physically challenged. She was a founding member of the University Church of Christ in Greenville, where she frequently arranged flowers for Sunday services and special events. She retired early, in anticipation of years of travel, antiquing and crafts. She traveled extensively and was accomplished at a wide range of handicrafts. She knew every antique shop within a two hour drive of her home.
She is survived by two sons, James Russell Ross, Sr. of Mahopac, N.Y. and William E. Ross and his wife, Patricia, of Dover; a sister, Lena Bea Manning Parker of Kinston, N.C.; a brother, Archibald Eber Manning of Greenville; and three grandchildren, Katie, Stuart and Stephen Ross of Dover.
She was predeceased by James Russell Ross Sr., her husband of 35 years; two brothers, John E. Manning and William E. Manning; and one sister, Emma Bell (Manning) Modlin.
Friends and family are invited to call Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wilkerson Funeral Home, 2100 East Fifth St., Greenville. A celebration of her life will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, 381 Park Ave., South NYC, NY 10010, or to a similar foundation supporting stem cell or Parkinson’s-related research.

Ronald Scott
NORTH CONWAY - Ronald James Scott, 38, of Route 16, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, after a sudden illness.
Born Jan. 10, 1963, in Rochester, he was the son of William A. Jr. and Caroline (Stewart) Scott.
Mr. Scott has lived in North Conway for the past eight years after moving from Gonic. He was a carpenter employed by Glenn Builders as a foreman.
He was a proud, lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, a loyal member of the Mountain Men Motorcycle Club, past member of the 5th Chapter Motorcycle Club.
He participated in many charity runs such as Toys for Tots to collect toys for needy children. He was never happier except when he was riding his Harley Davidson with his motorcycle "brothers." He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his two sons, brothers and friends.
He is survived by his parents, William A. Jr. and Caroline "Kitty" Stewart of Berwick, Maine; his maternal grandmother, Theresa M. Stuart of Bartlett; paternal grandparents, William A. and Flora Scott of Somersworth; his sons, Ronald J. Scott of Rochester and Justin J. of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; his brothers, Daniel L. of Milton, William A. Scott III of Berwick and Joseph S. Scott and his wife, Tamara, of Wakefield; his beloved lady of eight years, Michelle Green of North Conway; aunts and uncles; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his grandfather, Leslie Stewart, in 1991 and an uncle, Joseph L. Stewart in 1966.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Charles Whitford, pastor, officiating. A private family burial will be in the Lovell Lake Cemetery at a later date.
Stephen Scott
DOVER - Stephen F. Scott, 44, of 18 Ham St., died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born Feb. 23, 1957, in Exeter, he was the son of Leo and Isabel (Foster) Scott.
He was employed as a laboratory technician with DTM, formerly GFS. He lived in Dover all his life, was devoted to his children and enjoyed making models of old cars.
A veteran, he served in the U. S. Army 82nd Airborne Division.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa (Richard) Scott of Dover; his father of Dover; two sons, Keith Scott and Stephen James Scott, both of Dover; one daughter, Teri-Lee Scott of Somersworth; six brothers, Vaughn of Maryland, Russel of Rochester, James and Ralph, both of Dover, Kenneth of New Durham and Jeffery of Barrington; two sisters, Carol Bolduc and Joyce Caron, both of Rochester.
He was predeceased by a son, Foster Scott.

Wayne Shannon
MIDDLETON - Wayne Daniel Shannon, infant son of Wayne D. and Toni (Whitehouse) Shannon Jr., died Saturday, Nov., 10, 2001, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, due to heart complications.
He was born Aug. 25, 2001, in Portland. He is survived by his parents, Wayne D. and Toni (Whitehouse) Shannon Jr.; a six year old sister, Kara Ann Shannon of Middleton; paternal grandparents, Wayne and Beverly Shannon of Middleton; a maternal grandmother, Gladys Gates of Pembroke; a maternal grandfather, Tony Whitehouse of Concord; four aunts, Lisa Caplette of Middleton, Darlene Glidden of Pembroke, Tina Sprague of Farmington and Savannah Whitehouse of Concord; two uncles, Ben Shannon of Middleton and Tony Whitehouse Jr. of Concord; and his godfather, Ronald Howard Jr.
He was predeceased by an uncle, Kevin Sprague.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at C.E. Peaslee and Son Funeral Home, 32 Central St., Farmington.
There are no calling hours. Friends are welcome to the service. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington.
Margaret Brown
NORTH HAMPTON - Margaret E. Brown, 88, of 34 Maple Road died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at the Exeter Healthcare.
She was born in Grand Manan, New Brunswick, Canada, on Jan. 10, 1913, the daughter of Roy C. and Hattie J. (Naves) Nesbitt.
Moving to Exeter as a child, she attended the Robinson Female Seminary in Exeter before moving to North Hampton in the early 1930s.
A homemaker, she was very active with the North Hampton Woman’s Club, and the Ladies Union of the United Church of Christ of North Hampton.
She was a communicant of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Hampton for many years. She also volunteered at the North Hampton School Library and the Nearly New Shop at the Trinity Episcopal Church for many years.
She was the wife of Hayden M. Brown who died in 1970.
Family members include two daughters, Beverly Frenette and her husband, George, of North Hampton and Pauline Waters and her husband, Richard, of Hampton; four grandchildren, Garrick and Timothy Waters both of Wilmington, N.C., and G. Michael Frenette of Exeter and Donna Souther of Rochester; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Josephine Dining of Clearwater, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Todd N. Carter, Viva N. Brown and Evelyn N. Callahan.
Services will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church, Hampton on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The family requests that there be no visiting hours and that flowers please be omitted.

Cranford Couch
PORTSMOUTH - Cranford Harvey Couch, 76, husband of Merwyn Elaine (Thompson) Couch, of 75 Taft Rd., died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at his home.
He was born in Athens, Georgia, Dec. 10, 1925, the son of Calvin Reese and Ellamae (Evans) Couch. He attended Athen, Ga., schools and was a graduate of Clark County High School.
Mr. Couch served 25 years, in the U.S. Navy, as a chef, during World War II and Korea. During World War II he had served on the U.S.S. Ray SS271. He was employed at the University of New Hampshire as a chef, retiring after 25 years.
Mr. Couch was known as the mayor of Taft Road. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve of Portsmouth; and the Submarine Veterans of World War II.
Besides his wife, survivors include one son Calvin Ralph Couch, of Portsmouth; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Ernest Couch, Harry Couch, and Olaf Couch; and one sister, Frances Matthews.
Funeral services will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth on Thursday at 11 a.m. Friends invited.
Visiting hours at funeral home will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations in memory of Mr. Couch may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Susan Crosby
BOSTON, Mass. - Susan Lee Nichols Crosby, 63, of Rollinsford, N.H. passed away on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at the New England Medical Center after a lengthy and courageous battle with leukemia.
She was born May 6, 1938, in Newton, to loving parents, Richard and the late Mary (Wakefield) Nichols. She grew up in Georgetown, graduating salutatorian of Perley High School, Class of 1956. She was a natural athlete, playing four years of softball and five years (8th-grade included) of basketball. She was co-captain of the basketball team, league free throw champ for two years, and was instrumental in two league titles for Perley, even being offered a women’s pro basketball touring job.
Susan received a baccalaureate degree in music from UMass-Amherst in 1960. While studying abroad in Vienna, Austria, she became enamored with foreign travel, ultimately visiting more than 50 countries.
In 1977, Susan and her family moved to Durham, N.H. In addition to being a single mother, she was well known in the Seacoast area as a singer, musician, swimming/basketball mom and volunteer with various organizations.
Susan was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Elise Martin Crosby, who died in 1996 and her mother, Mary (Wakefield) Nichols, who died in 1989.
She is survived by her father, Richard Nichols; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Allan (Pete) Perry; son and daughter-in-law, Alex and Corinne Crosby; son, Ben (Rick) Crosby; daughter and son-in-law, Joanna Crosby and Stanley Pilgrim; daughter and her fiancée, Dawn Crosby and Rodrigo (Jo-Jo) Maqueda Monges; grandchildren, Shane and Will Crosby, Ngeende Pilgrim and three additional grandchildren soon to arrive.
A humble and selfless person, Sue’s strength, beauty and eternal optimism was experienced by all who came to know her. She will be missed dearly by those who were lucky enough to have shared any part of life with her.
A memorial service will be held at the Holy Trinity Church, 404 High St., Somersworth, on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m.
