Larry Vincent

SANFORD, Maine - Larry D. Vincent, 38, of Sanford, who died April 15, 2000 at his home following a six month battle with cancer.

Born in Rochester, N.H., on May 3, 1961, the son of Maurice and Sylvia Lance Vincent, he had lived here for the past six months, and formerly lived in Rochester. He was a 1980 graduate of Spaulding High School in Rochester.

Mr. Vincent was a sheet metal worker for General Electric Co. in Somersworth, N.H. for several years and most recently was CNC machine operator for Cambridge Tool North, and die cast company in Dover, N.H.

He loved camping, especially in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and he liked to picnic in the mountains. He liked traveling, and thoroughly enjoyed a trip to Busch Gardens in Florida with his daughter in 1990.

He enjoyed Christian music and had a strong faith. He maintained a positive attitude throughout his illness, never complaining of pain and was always concerned for others. He attended Curtis Lake Christian Church in Sanford and was a former member of the Assembly of God Church in Milton, N.H.

Survivors include his wife of six months, Dolores Wyatt Feeney Vincent of Sanford; his mother, Sylvia G. Vincent of Rochester, N.H.; a daughter, Jacquline Patch of Concord, N.H.; a stepson, Sean Feeney of Sanford; two sisters, Valerie Alden and Diana Rousseau, both of Rochester; a brother, Steven Vincent of Rochester; and two grandmothers, Shirley Lance of Somersworth and Mary Lance Tucker of Alton, N.H.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at the Kimball Cemetery in Rochester, N.H. The Rev. Jim McAtee, pastor, will officiate.

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, Springvale.

Marie Allard

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Marie Delia Allard, 88, formerly of 7 Academy St. died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000 at the Rochester Manor, where she had been a resident for the past two months.

Born in Bristol, N.H. on Jan. 19, 1912, she was the daughter of George and Nellie Allard. She had lived in South Berwick since 1932, and at one time also was a resident in East Rochester, N.H.

Miss Allard was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during World War II. She also worked for over 26 years for General Electric in Somersworth, N.H. Her interests included knitting, traveling and gardening.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including David R. Allard of Rye, N.H. and Joanne Parteneau of Rochester, N.H.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo Church in Gonic, N.H. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Lebanon, N.H.

Arrangements are by H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main St., Rochester, N.H.

Barbara Bogrett

HAMPTON - Barbara M. Bogrett, 80, of 98 Exeter Road died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born Dec. 13, 1919, in Elizabeth N.J., she was the daughter of Walter and Eugenia (Heimmel) Bornschein.

Mrs. Bogrett resided in Hampton for more than 55 years coming from Langdon. She worked at the Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce and for the Withey Press in Seabrook.

Family members include four children, Linda L. Boudreau of Sun Lakes, Ariz., Carol Hughes of Alexandria, Va., James A Bogrett of Brentwood, Peter S. Bogrett of Spring Hill, Tenn.; one sister, Dorothy Griffin of Norwalk, Conn.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson; two nieces and a nephew.

Services will be held at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, Friday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond.

Frederick Boyce

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine - Frederick Sprague Boyce, 83, of Kaynel Drive died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000 at a Portland Hospital.

Born in Portland, he was a son of Fred F. and Dorothy (Sprague) Boyce. He attended Portland schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1934.

On July 1, 1934, Mr. Boyce became an apprentice machinist, and later a supervisor with Boyce Machine Company, founded by his father in 1926. During World War II, as a supervisor with Boyce Machine, he worked on freighters, including many Liberty ships built in the South Portland shipyards.

Following World War II, he sailed as a chief engineer for two years and captain for seven years on a fishing vessel, the "Sylvina Beal" owned by Peacock Canning Company out of Portland.

After his father sold the machine company, he joined Williams Brothers, Inc., owned by Moran Towboat Company, a s a chief engineer installing engines in towboats. In April 1956, he joined Central Wharf Towboat Company and in 1964 became vice president and general manager. He retired from there in 1985 after 51 years on the Portland waterfront.

He was a member of the Portland Marine Society, Maine Charitable Mechanics Association, Portland and Portsmouth Propellar Clubs, National Propellar Club.

Mr. Boyce served on the board of directors of the Atlantic Coast and Gulf of Mexico Towboat Association, was a member of the Port Development Committee and subcommittees of the Chamber of Commerce, nationally, he was a National Defense Executive Reservist of the Interstate Commerce Commission and Maritime Administration, a member of the Coast Guard Sea Lanes Committee and treasurer of Portland Harbor Pollution and Abatement Committee. He was also a member of Portland Lions Club and a charter member of the Cape Elizabeth Lions Club, Dover Elks club and a communicant of Holy Cross Church.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Mary (Wixted) Boyce of South Portland; a daughter Cheryl Cook of Buxton; two sons, Richard Boyce of Haines, Alaska and Douglas Boyce of Gorham; a sister, Janice Rowe of Munster, Ind. and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his first wife, Winifred Boyce of Portland.

‘Rick’ Cunningham, operated Internet music business

BERWICK, Maine - Richard "Rick" James Cunningham, 47, of Pine Hill Road died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000 at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover after a sudden illness.

Born in Portsmouth, N.H., Feb. 14, 1953, he was the son of John and Naomi (Smith) Cunningham. He was educated in Portsmouth schools, graduating from Portsmouth High School Class of 1971. He also graduated from the American Academy School of Broadcasting in 1975.

He had been employed at General Electric Co. for 11 years. He founded "Sounds Unlimited" a DJ show in 1973. He also owned and operated RJC Records in Somersworth in the early 80s. In recent years he had a popular Internet business RJC Country Music Gallery.

He had been a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 69, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the National Notary Association.

Mr. Cunningham was an avid boxer and had an undying love for music. Many people loved him as he would do anything for anyone. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was a single dad to his daughter, Cayla, whom he loved more than life itself.

He was predeceased by his father who died in 1985.

Survivors include his mother, Naomi of Somersworth; a daughter, Cayla Cunningham of Berwick; a brother, John Cunningham and his wife, Kathy, of Barrington, N.H.; two nephews, Joshua John Cunningham and Ryan James Cunningham, both of Barrington; aunts, uncles and several cousins.

Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Roberge Funeral Home, 298 High St., Somersworth. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Parish Church, West High Street, Somersworth, with the Rev. James Vreeland, pastor of Faith Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Portsmouth, N.H.

Memorials may be made to an educational trust fund for his beloved daughter, Cayla. Details will be available at the funeral home.

Kay E. Davis

DOVER - Kay E. Davis, 60, of 92 Three Rivers Farm Road died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000 at her home after a lengthy illness with cancer.

Born Nov. 30, 1939, in Keene, she was the daughter of Omer and Sybil (Harper) Croteau. She was a graduate of Keene High School, and a 1961 graduate of the University of New Hampshire. She moved to Dover in 1973. She received her master’s degree in secondary education from Keene State College in 1966 and also did graduate work in forestry at the University of New Hampshire.

She was employed in Portsmouth and Concord with the Department of Health & Human Services where she had been a social worker, a supervisor, also with the Head Start Program and most recently had been an adjudicator for the State of New Hampshire Disability Determination Service.

She was a communicant of St. Charles Church in Dover.

She is survived by her husband, John D. Davis, whom she married in 1973; her mother, Sybil Croteau of East Swanzey; a stepdaughter, Brierly Brown of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a stepson, Brenton Davis of Epping; two stepgrandchildren MacKenzie and Jillian Brown, both of Scottsdale; four brothers, John Croteau of Bedford, Gale Croteau of New Milford, Conn., Scott Croteau of Swanzey, and Tom Croteau of Dover; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her father, she was predeceased by a son, Nathan D. Davis, who died in 1993.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Bernard’s Church, 173 Main St., Keene, with the Rev. John Hurley, associate pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Keene.

Funeral arrangements are by the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover.

Those who wish are invited to make memorials in her name to the Squamscott Visiting Nurses, 113 New Rochester Road, Suite 4, Dover, NH 03820.

Anne Kirk

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Margaret Anne Milne Kirk, 67, formerly of Dover, N.H., died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000 at her home in Columbia after a long battle with cancer.

Born Feb. 16, 1933, in Columbia, she was a daughter of Henry and Evelyn Bates Milne.

Her employment included several years at Sears & Roebuck Company in Dover.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her son and daughters-in-law, John Clifton and Sue Kirk of Blythewood, and Darlene Kirk of Dover; a sister, Rose Faye Boyd of Avondale Estates, Ga; a sister-in-law, Freida Milne of West Columbia; her grandchildren, Carrie Montgomery, John Kirk and Lee Kirk, all of Blythewood, Marc Kirk, Brittney Kirk, Brandon Kirk and Tannah Kirk, all of Dover.

She was predeceased by a son, William Lee Kirk Jr. of Dover, infant sons, Hank and Eric, and a brother, Henry Ludwig Milne Jr.

Lillian Lavarnway

NEW DURHAM - Lillian A. Lavarnway, 81, of 84 Miller Road died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000 at the Rochester Manor in Rochester.

Born April 17, 1919, in Chester, she was the daughter of Waldo and Hazel (Pingree) Beckford. She was a resident of New Durham since 1986, formerly living in Hudson. She attended Pinkerton Academy in Derry.

Mrs. Lavarnway had been employed as a solderer for Sanders Associates in Nashua. She was also a certified home health aide in the Hudson and Nashua area with the Nashua Visiting Nurses Association.

She had been a member of the Nutfield Grange in East Derry.

Mrs. Lavarnway could identify many plants and flowers in the woods, and knew of numerous home remedies using wild plants and flowers. She had worked with local florists supplying moss for arrangements and holiday decorations.

In her later years, her talent of caning chairs became a pastime. She also enjoyed playing cards and making puzzles.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ernest J. Lavarnway of New Durham; one son, Joseph and his wife, Franca, of Cody, Wyo.; two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Helen) Carson of Springfield, Ill. and Mrs. Raymond (Vivian) Dion of Nashua; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and one brother, Waldo Beckford and his wife, Jackie, of Grafton.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Peabody Funeral Home, 15 Birch St., Derry.

The burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in East Derry.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Gerard LeBlanc

LEEGerard J. "Jerry" LeBlanc, 58, of 28 Concord Road died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000 at his home following a nine month battle with cancer.

Born May 7, 1942, he was the son of Raoul and Annie (Maloney) LeBlanc.

He was a lifelong resident of this area and was a graduate of Dover High School and had served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. LeBlanc was employed for 28 years by the State of New Hampshire Liquor Commission, working in the Lee store No. 71, He retired June 30, 2000 due to illness.

He was an avid fisherman.

Family members include his wife of 20 years, Carol (Chaloux) LeBlanc of Lee; five stepdaughters, Theresa Savary of Jacksonville, Fla., Sheryl Lynch of Ingram, Texas, Kerry Franklin of Kerryville, Texas, Beverly Sprague of Barrington, and Arlene Savary of Derry; two sisters, Mrs. Normand (June) Grenier and Mrs. John (Rita) Durkin, both of Dover; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday from 10 to11 a.m. at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave. Dover. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Paul Gregoire, pastor of St. Charles Church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary New Cemetery, Dover.

Joseph LeBlanc

BARRINGTON - Joseph Clifford LeBlanc, 84, of 6 Pinetop Road died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.

Born May 22, 1916, in Littlebrook Station, Nova Scotia, Canada, he was the son of Marius and Emilie (Comeau) LeBlanc.

He was employed as a conductor on the Long Island Railroad.

A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during the 1930s.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Patricia (McCusker) LeBlanc of Barrington; a son, Clifford LeBlanc; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services are being held at 4 p.m. today in Pine Grove Cemetery in Barrington.

Arrangements are under the direction of Purdy Memorial Chapel, Route 4, 2 Concord Road, Lee.

Leah Roy

DOVER - Leah M. Roy, 77, formerly of Dover and Barrington, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at the home of her daughter in Bedford.

She was born in Dover, May 5, 1923, the daughter of Charles F. and Annie M. (Norman) Richardson. She had lived in Dover for 50 years and in Barrington for 27 years.

She had worked as a private duty housekeeper, and previously had been employed at Marx Brothers Toy Factory and Clarostat Manufacturing, both in Dover, Miller Shoe, and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

She was an active member of the Crown Point Second Baptist Church in Strafford, and the Strafford and Dover Granges, where she had held the titles of past master, Ceres and lady assistant.

Mrs. Roy will be remembered for knitting mittens and hats for needy children for many years.

She enjoyed bird watching and country music.

Her husband, Jean Laurent Roy, died in 1979.

Family members include three daughters, Cheryl (Mrs. Alfred) Denoncourt, with whom she lived, of Bedford, Phyllis J. Roy and Penny A. (Mrs. Jeff) Peace, both of Rochester; two sons, Bruce C. Roy of Somersworth and Lawrence G. Roy of Milton; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra J. Roy, in 1947, and a brother Lewis F. Richardson in 1934.

Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover.

A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Crown Point Second Baptist Church, First Crown Point Road, Route 202A, Strafford, with the Rev. George Moore, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Barrington.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Hospice, 1850 Elm St., Manchester, NH 03104; or to the Crown Point Second Baptist Church, First Crown Point Road, Strafford, NH 03884.

Albert Bovyn Jr.

PORTSMOUTH - Mr. Albert A. Bovyn Jr., 85, widower of Beatrice (Hildebrant) Bovyn, of 226 Marcy Street, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at the Langdon Place of Dover.

He was born in New Bedford, Mass., on August 1, 1915, the son of Albert A. Sr. and Germaine (Senave) Bovyn.

Mr. Bovyn served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was formerly employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a machinist retiring in 1971 after 30 years.

Mr. Bovyn was a member of North Congregational Church in Portsmouth; member of Harmony Lodge No. 8 of Newton, N.J.; Frank E. Booma Post No. 6, American Legion; AARP and a member of the Mature Outlook.

Survivors include two sons, Albert A. Bovyn III of Manchester, and Thomas J. Bovyn of Dover; four grandchildren, Veronica Hirl of Plymouth, Mass.; Laura Bovyn of Salisbury, Mass.; Cheryl Dennis of Goffstown and Brian Bovyn of Goffstown; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, Thursday, at 4 p.m., friends invited. Visiting hours will be at the chapel two hours prior to the service from 2 to 4 p.m. Arrangements by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home.
