Francis Levasseur
BERWICK, Maine - Francis W. "Pete" Levasseur, 68, of Cranberry Meadows Road, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Dover Rehab following an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 12, 1932, in Dover, N.H., the son of William A. and Yvonne J. Royer Levasseur and had resided in Berwick since 1957.
Mr. Levasseur was a graduate of North Berwick High School.
He was employed for several years at Hussey Seating of North Berwick and at General Electric in Somersworth. He also was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a welder and later became a self-employed welder.
Mr. Levasseur served on the Berwick Planning Board from 1980 to 1986.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rita (Nadeau) Levasseur, whom he married in 1954 at St. Martins Church; a son, Peter W. Levasseur M.D., of Plymouth; two daughters, Patricia "Pat" J. Boudreau and friend, Wayne Walker of Berwick, and Margaret "Peggy" A. Levasseur and friend, Walter Boston of North Berwick; a brother, John Levasseur of Dover, N.H.; three sisters, Mrs. Wendell (Claire) Hodgkins of Kenningson, N.H., Mrs. Creston (Lorraine) Knox and Mrs. Lionel (Ann) Doiron, both of Berwick; a sister-in-law, Shirley Levasseur of North Berwick; and seven grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Albert in 1997 and a sister, Arlene in 1994.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church in Berwick with the Rev. Hilary Cameron officiating.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Berwick. Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Laing Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester St., Berwick.

Barbara Reed
STONINGTON, Maine - Barbara G. Reed, 66, of Green Head Lane, formerly of Newfields, N.H., died Sunday, June 2, 2001.
Born May 8, 1935, in Bluehill, Maine, she was the daughter of Howard and Regina Guptill.
She graduated with a degree in nursing from the University of Maine in Orono. She had a career in nursing as a registered nurse, administrator and director of nursing.
She and her husband Barry retired in Stonington where they started a wonderful business in plants, herbs, jams, jellies, and pickles.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Major Ralph Barry Reed; three children, Barry Micahel of Stratham, N.H., Julie Reed Dunfey of Rye, N.H., and Nancy Reed Shea of Kittery Point; five grandchildren, Benjamin, Raphael, Donald, Walter and Liam.
She will be greatly missed by all, including her beloved dog, Molly.
A memorial service will be held at Bragdon Funeral Home, Stonington, today at 3 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.

Jonathan Sawyer III
KITTERY POINT, Maine - Jonathan Sawyer III, 79, of 110 Bartlett Road died Monday, June 4, at his residence after a long illness.
He was born in York, Maine, on June 1, 1922, the son of Jonathan and Esther (Tuttle) Sawyer. He was a 1941 graduate of York High School and attended the University of New Hampshire.
Mr. Sawyer served as an aviation machinist in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a self-employed building contractor and had lived on his family farm for his whole life. He was a member of the Federal Fire Society and the Society of the Cincinnati.
Survivors include one brother, William Sawyer of Wellesley, Mass.; two sisters, Lydia S. Coggeshall of Portsmouth and Elizabeth S. Hoefler of Kittery Point and Sugarloaf USA; eight nieces and nephews; and eleven great-nieces and great-nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 8, in Pine Hill Cemetery, 35 South Pine Street, Dover.

Florence Spring
QUINCY, Mass. - Florence I. (Crowley) Spring, 83, formerly of Roxbury, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Bay Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Brockton after a short illness.
Born in Roxbury, she attended and graduated from St. Patrick’s Grammar and High School.
Mrs. Spring was formerly employed by Cardinal Health in Danvers as a key punch operator for about 10 years.
She lived in 1000 Southern Artery in Quincy for about five years and was a member of the Show Time Entertainers at 1000 Southern Artery that put on all types of minstrel shows.
She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond H. Spring Sr., loving mother of Eileen McCormack of Whitman, Madeline Metrick of Rochester, N.H., Ellen M. Spring of Whitman and the late Raymond H. Spring Jr.; sister of the late Charles H. Crowley Jr. and Alfred Crowley; grandmother of Eileen Koyon, Kevin McCormick, James McCormick, Kerri Ann Anderson, Joseph Metrick and Matthew H. Spring; great-grandmother of Colleen Thompson, Katelyn Koyon, Samantha and Brenden McCormick, Michael, Zachary and Madeline Anderson; great-great-grandmother to Kaylah Koyon and Mary Ellen Thompson. Also she is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Dennis Ury
LEE - Dennis W. Ury III, 41, formerly of Chicago, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at his mother’s home in Lee.
Born October 2, 1959, in New York City, he was the son of Ann (Donovan) Ury of Lee and Dennis W. Ury Jr. of Jersey City, N.J.
He attended the Oyster River Schools, the New York High School of Art & Design, The Rhode Island School of Design and the Chicago Art Institute.
A life-long artist, he established galleries in both Providence and Chicago.
He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Michael J. D. Ury of Lee and Jonathan E. Ury of Eliot, Maine; a sister, Katherine S. Steiger of Brookline, Mass.; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Dennis W. Ury of Southampton, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives are invited to call from 5 to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 8, at the Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road, Route 4, Lee, where a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m.

Winifred White
DOVER - Winifred A. White, 82, of Dover died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at home surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Dover on Feb. 9, 1919, she was the daughter of Edward V. and Leah A. (Munn) Smith. She was the widow of Mayor Michael J. White, who died in 1977.
She graduated from Dover High School in 1937 and was a member of the Class Reunion Committee. She was active with the Blue Birds, Camp Fire Girls, Girl Scouts and the St. Mary School Guild. She was a member of St. Mary Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She devoted her life to family and friends and enjoyed sewing and oil painting.
The widow of Mayor Michael J. White, her survivors include three daughters, Jacqueline A. and her husband, William C. Baugh, of Millersville, Md., Maureen J. and her husband, Ralph R. Joyce, of Weare, and Kathleen F. and her husband, Douglas Bixby, of Portland, Maine; a sister, Jean (Smith) and her husband, Pedro Hernandez, of Columbia, Md.; five grandchildren, Michael W. Joyce of Dover, Ralph R. Joyce II of North Andover, Mass., Erica E. Joyce of Lowell, Mass., Michael C. Baugh and Christine H. Baugh of Millersville, Md.; three sisters-in-law, Delia Smith of Millbury, Mass., Catherine White of Dover and Mary White of Burlington, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Edward Smith, Sgt. William F. Smith, USMC, John M. Smith, Robert Smith and Raymond B. Smith.

Evelyn Whitehouse
DOVER - Evelyn J. Whitehouse, 91, formerly of Central Towers, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at the Riverside Rest Home after a period of failing health. The widow of Henry Whitehouse who died in 1966.

Frederick Goheen
DOVER - Frederick E. Goheen, 85, of 6 Hawthorn Road, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.
Born April 21, 1916, in Richwood, W. Va., he was the son of Martin E. and Mamie E. (Donahoe) Goheen.
He moved to Dover in 1945.
Mr. Goheen was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Prior to his retirement, he was a longtime employee of the former Miller Shoe Co.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church. For 13 years, he was active in the Rev. Joseph Maguire’s healing ministries.
He is survived by his wife whom he married in 1945, Alberta G. (Labbe) Goheen; a daughter, Kathleen M. Glover of Moultonborough; two grandchildren, Shawn Tebbetts of Gilmanton Iron Works and Michelle Currier of Manchester; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Roy Sanborn
MADISON - Roy L. Sanborn, 59, of Route 113, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Maine Medical Center, Portland, Maine.
Born July 20, 1942, in Sanford, Maine, he was the son of Lawrence H. and Elva R. Reed Sanborn.
He was educated in Parsonsfield School.
Mr. Sanborn worked at DiPrizio Lumber Company of Middleton and S.U.R. Construction of Rochester.
He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and tinkering with his bike, car and other things mechanical.
He is survived by his mother, Elva Reed Sanborn of South Waterboro, Maine; three sisters, Elsie M. Franklin of South Waterboro, Frances E. Rancourt of Middleton and Bernice M. McManus of Upland, Calif.; two brothers, Leslie E. Sanborn of Dover and Raymond C. Sanborn of West Newfield, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours were held Tuesday at Neal & York Funeral Home, 12 High St., Kezar Falls, Maine, with the funeral service at 10 a.m. today at the Assembly of God Church, Route 25, Kezar Falls. Officiating was Pastor Hubert Wilcox.
Blanche Ball
ROCHESTER - Blanche A. Watson Ball, 87, of 3 Victoria Circle, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at her home.
Born Sept. 14, 1914, in Worcester, Mass., she was the daughter of Edmund and Ella Maye Beals.
Mrs. Ball lived in Rochester for most of her life, having grown up in Shapleigh, Maine.
She was employed at Easterner Air Devices for 20 years until she retired.
She enjoyed Beano, gardening and gambling at Foxwoods.
She received many blue ribbons at the Rochester Fair for her fine, hand-hooked rugs.
She is survived by her sons, J. Hiram Watson and his wife, Nancy of Farmington and John R. Watson of Rochester; her daughter, Rebecca M. Howard of Rochester; 12 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers; two sisters; and her husband, Fred A. Ball.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester, with Rev. John Scruton officiating.
Burial will be in the Kimball Cemetery following the service.
Marie Batchelder
DUXBURY, Mass. - Marie Louise (Hattaway) Batchelder, 84, of Duxbury, formerly of Hollywood, Fla., and Dover, N.H., died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at the Evanswood Nursing Home, Bethesda, Mass.
Daughter of Georgiana Plante and Thomas Hattaway, she was born in Dover, N.H. and was educated in the Dover school system. She lived in Hollywood for 20 years before moving to Duxbury three years ago.
She enjoyed designing interiors, landscaping and floral arrangements.
She was the beloved wife of the late W.H. Batchelder.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou O’Connell and E. Bonnie Opie, both of Duxbury; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several nieces.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in St. Mark’s Church 261 Main St., Kingston, Mass.

Dennis Bennett
BRENTWOOD - Dennis G. Bennett, 61, of Middle Road, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at the Exeter Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 27, 1939, in Portsmouth, son of Raymond and Rosanna Mary (DeRoche) Bennett.
He had resided in Brentwood since 1952 and was formerly of Portsmouth.
He worked as a truck driver for the past 16 years at the Phillips Exeter Academy. His family specially noted him as a hard worker. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, gardening and anything to do with the outdoors.
He was predeceased by his father; his two brothers, Michael Bennett and Gary Bennett; and two sisters, Sharon Petit and Joan Witham.
He is survived by his wife of two years, Christine (Robertson) Bennett of Brentwood; two daughters, Lisa Hinckley of Ossipee and Peggy Barton of Brownsville, Maine; five grandchildren; two brothers, Laurence Bennett of Newmarket and Raymond Bennett Jr. of Acworth, Ga.; three sisters, Frances "Vicky" Richard of Exeter, Maureen Lawlor of Exeter and Christine LaBranche of Brentwood; many nieces and nephews.
