Henry Frechette
KITTERY, Maine - Henry "The Barber" Frechette, 63, of Old Post Road, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at York Hospital.
Born on Feb. 15, 1939, in Whitefield, N.H., he was a son of Felix J. and Mary (Moreau) Frechette.
He graduated from Whitefield High School, Class of 1957. Upon his graduation, he entered the Merchant Marines and served until 1960. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve from 1961 until 1967.
He attended Hanson’s Barber College in Lewiston and opened his own barber shop. He served several generations of the Kittery community as a barber and trusted friend to many.
He was a member of the Twin State Cruisers and the Maine Obsolete Auto League (MOALS), enjoying frequent rides around town and beyond in his 1968 red SS Camaro convertible. He was also a member of the Maine Barber’s Association and a former member of the Lions Club.
In addition to his wife, Brenda J. (Call) Frechette of Kittery, he is survived by two stepsons, Kevin Raynes of York and Timothy Raynes Sr. of Kittery; brothers, Paul Frechette of St. Petersburg, Fla., Lawrence Frechette of Whitefield, Robert Frechette of West Melbourne, Fla., Raymond Frechette of Willits, Calif., Gerard Frechette of St. Louis, Mo., John Frechette of Berlin, N.H., and Michael Frechette of Alfred; sisters, Sister Felix M. Frechette of Hudson, N.H., Jean Frechette of Shrewsbury, Mass., Noella Pay of Rochester, N.H., Sister Rose Philippne Frechette of Fall River, Mass., Marcelle LeBrun of Sanford, Elizabeth Sullivan of Reading, Mass., and Bernie Duval of Lowell, Mass.; four grandchildren, Timothy Raynes Jr., Natasha Raynes, Amanda Raynes and Abby Raynes; and 32 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Irene Frechette, formerly of East Boston, Mass.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery. Family flowers only.

Norman Hayes
ROCHESTER - Norman Hayes, 92, of 46 Old Dover Road, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Oct. 16, 1909, in Rochester, the son of George and Nellie R. (Blazo) Hayes.
Mr. Hayes served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He worked at the Wyandotte Mill for 34 years and at Simplex in North Berwick, Maine.
He also had worked at Foster’s Daily Democrat for 10 years as a custodian.
His family owned the Hayes Hotel in Rochester for many years.
Mr. Hayes was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Rochester, the American Legion Post No. 7 and the Lodge of Elks No. 1393 of Rochester.
He enjoyed horse racing, baseball and bowling.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Virginia (Carey) Hayes of Rochester; one sister, Eleanor Hayes of Williamsburg, Va.; and three nieces, Eleanor Jane Belanger of Williamsburg, Virginia Perry of West Virginia and Joanne Pallas of East Rochester.
He was predeceased by 11 siblings.
Calling hours will be held today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Lowell Street, Rochester.
Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery, Franklin Street, Rochester.
Joseph Hock
NEWMARKET - Joseph "Alex" Hock, 37, of Bass Street, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at his home in Newmarket.
Born Sept. 14, 1964, in Montreal, Canada, he was a son of Johanna (Elek) Hock and the late Sandor J. Hock. He lived in Newmarket for 20 years and briefly in Dover and Portsmouth.
He was a 1983 graduate of Newmarket High School and had attended the University of New Hampshire for one year.
He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1983 and served one enlistment.
For 10 years, he was employed at Bavarian Auto Sport in Portsmouth. At the time of his death, he was employed as an account manager with Charrette Corp. in Portsmouth.
He lived life to its fullest and enjoyed computer art and a variety of water sports.
He is survived by his mother, Johanna Hock of Newmarket; his brother, Rudy K. Hock of Newmarket; and one cousin in England.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket, with Wes Burwell, Seacoast Hospice chaplain, officiating.

Mabel Lynch
COLEBROOK - Mabel G. Lynch, 92, of Colebrook, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the Coos County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown.
She was born in Colebrook on Jan. 10, 1910, the third of 10 children of William J. and Cora Ethel (Little) Lynch. She was graduated from Colebrook Academy, Class of 1927.
She was housekeeper and companion for many years for the late Iva H. Drew. During that time, she was very active in Red Cross work and was also assistant librarian. In fact, she helped solicit funds when the local library was built.
She worked for nearly 22 years at the local post office when it was located on Main Street, first as a mail handler, then as a clerk, retiring on disability when Jack Laperle was the postmaster.
She was a lifetime resident of Colebrook and loved the town and everyone in it. She was a 25-year member of the Mohawk Grange in Colebrook.
She is survived by her sister, Dorothy L. Emmons of South Berwick, Maine; three sisters-in-law, Winona Lynch, Beatrice Lynch and Marion Wheeler, all of Colebrook; and many relatives too numerous to mention.
She was predeceased by her parents; four brothers, John, Vaughan, William and Frank Lynch; and four sisters, Mildred Walker, Mary Nugent, Helen Schueneman and Lena Compton.
The Newman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Her wishes were for cremation with no calling hours but she requested a prayer service at her committal at the convenience of the family.

ROCHESTER - James L. "Jim" McBride, 81, of Rochester, formerly of Melrose, Mass., died Sunday, March 31, 2002.
Funeral services will be held from the Philip X. Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St., Melrose at the Wakefield line on Thursday at 11 a.m.
A funeral mass will be held in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield, at 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Ruth Wilson
JASPER, Ala. - Ruth Eleanor McDaniel Wilson, 75, of Jasper, formerly of Dover, N.H., died Friday, March 29, 2002, at her residence after a long illness.
She is survived by three children, Sandra Sue Stough, Robert T. Wilson Jr. and his wife, Aletha, all of Jasper, and Sally Ruth DeWitt and her husband, Stan, of Hoover; five grandchildren, Emma Lisa Stough, Matthew Stough, Sarah DeWitt, Rebecca DeWitt and Stanley Wilson DeWitt; two sisters, Barbara LaRochelle and her husband, Larry, and Elaine Zerbinopolous; two brothers, Paul Beaudoin and his wife, Rita, and Robert Beaudoin and his wife, Mary, all of New Hampshire; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert T. (Bob) Wilson Sr.; daughter, Alice Kay Wilson; granddaughter, Laura Ruth Stough; mother, Ruth Goodwin; father, Walter McDaniel; and brother, Ted Beaudoin.
Funeral services were Monday, April l, at the First United Methodist Church with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Jasper. The Revs. David Wallace and David Murray officiated. Kilgore-Green Funeral Home in Jasper directed.

Paul Beane, former Newington selectman
NEWINGTON - Paul J. Beane, 85, widower of Doris Maryann (Ouellette) Beane, of 233 Nimble Hill Road, died Saturday, May 29, 1999 at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth.
Born in Newington on April 1, 1914, the son of Louis C. and Abbie A. (Rollins) Beane, he attended Portsmouth High School.
Prior to his retirement 1974, he was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 26 years as a carpenter and shipwright.
Mr. Beane was a former Newington selectman; a former Budget Committee member; charter member of the Newington Fire Department; and had served on various town committees.
He was a member of the Newington Congregational Church; member of the UBC Local 3073; and member of the National Skeet Shooting Association.
Survivors include five children, Nancy Cansler of Hillsville, Pa., Paul (Rollie) Beane of Newington, Kathy Beane of Miami, Fla., Norman Beane of Bethel, Maine, and Susan Newcomer of Newington; six grandchildren, Gina Cansler, Karen Cansler, Jimmy Cansler, Hannah Barrett, Ian Fritz, and Abbie Beane; a sister, Jessie A. Beane of Portsmouth; a special friend, Mary House of Newington; and the caring staff at the Edgewood Centre.

Reginald Brooks
ROCHESTER - Reginald G. Brooks, 71, of Stuart, Fla. and Rochester died Thursday, June 17, 1999, in Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart.
He was a native of Kennebunk, Maine and had been a winter resident of Stuart since 1990. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He was of the Lutheran faith.
An engineer for General Electric in Somersworth for 35 years, he was also the owner and operator of Edelweiss Dance Studio in Somersworth.
He was a member of Rochester Elks Club, the German Club of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and the General Electric Employee Association in Somersworth.
Family members include his loving wife of 46 years, Lindy Brooks of Stuart and Rochester; two sons, Peter Brooks and his wife, Penny of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Michael Brooks and his wife, Carrie of Stuart; and a sister, Dorothy Clark of West Kennebunkport, Maine.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Mario DePalma
SEABROOK - Mario D. DePalma, 81, died June 20, 1999, in his home.
Born in Boston, Mass., July 22, 1917, he was the son of Louis and Maria (Cataldo) DePalma. He lived for a time in Stoneham and Medford, Mass., before moving to Seabrook.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
Before retiring in 1985, Mr. DePalma worked many years as a plumber for Peterson Plumbing Co., Somerville, Mass.
Family members include his wife of 60 years, Eileen F. (Anderson) DePalma of Seabrook; two sons, Louis J. DePalma of Newton, Mass., and Gary S. DePalma of Loudon; four sisters, Anna D’Agosta of Somerville, Mass., Louise Robbins of Bedford, Mass., Virginia Gulizia of Malden, Mass., and Vera Jamieson of East Boston, Mass., nieces and nephews.
Sandra Dick
ALBERTVILLE, Ala. - Sandra Dawn Dick, 22, of Albertville, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Survivors include her parents, Ronnie and Cathy Dick of Albertville; grandparents, Rod and Elevelyn Vaillancourt of Maine; grandmothers, Carolyn Ripley of Florida and Sandra Nesbett of Maine; great-grandparents, Odeo and Ida Vaillancourt of Maine. She was predeceased by a daughter, Logan Michelle Dick.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Albertville Memorial Chapel in Albertville. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Mike Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery, Albertville.
Harry Hutchins
CAPE NEDDICK, Maine - Harry F. Hutchins, 96, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at York Hospital following a brief period of illness.
Born Jan. 5, 1903, in Cape Neddick, he was the son of Grafton and Isobel Stothart Hutchins. He graduated from York High School in 1924 and attended Wentworth Institute in Boston.
A plumber by trade, he served as plumbing inspector for the town of York for 24 years. After working at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during World War II, he took over his father’s lobster business, which he carried on until retiring in 1965.
He served for the York Water District and was a 50-year member of St. Aspinquid Masonic Lodge.
He had a sharp and accurate memory and in later years enjoyed relating, in detail, events in York during his lifetime. He identified many photos for John Bardwell and the Old York Historical Society.
He was the husband of Doris Talpey Hutchins for 69 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Faith H. Webster of Cape Neddick; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Marguerite Kelly
RYE - Marguerite C. Kelly, 84, of 496 Wallis Road, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born July 4, 1914, in New York City, she was the daughter of James and Emma (Martin) Clarke. Raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was educated in the public schools of New York. She won a scholarship to Vassar College where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. After graduating in 1935, she later earned a master’s degree in education from New York University. She and her family lived in New York, Chicago and Cleveland before settling in Rye in 1959.
Her first job was with The New York Times, lecturing on current events and teaching young adults how to learn from a daily newspaper. Subsequently, she was the assistant director of cooperative education and assistant director of public relations for the New York City Board of Education.
In 1960, she resumed her career in education, teaching at Rye Elementary School and then Rye Junior High before retiring in 1976.
After retirement, she was engaged in a wide variety of volunteer activities. She was a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging in 1961. At Odyssey House in Hampton, she tutored at-risk teens. Through the Seacoast Retired Seniors Volunteer Program, she tutored in the general equivalency diploma program, and for two decades aided seniors with their Medicare forms; she also served on RSVP’s board of directors. For 15 years, she served as a member of the Rye School Board. She was an original member of the board of directors of the Webster at Rye retirement community, serving from 1984 until her death. A onetime candidate for the General Court representing the Rye New Castle district, she was active in Democratic politics.
She was the wife of the late John F. Kelly who died in 1975. The couple were married in 1942.
Survivors include three children, Richard J. Kelly of Peabody, Mass., and Joan Kelly of Cambridge, Mass.; one grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
