PORTSMOUTH - Barbara (Jennings) McElroy, 82, widow of Charles W. McElroy, of 346 Pleasant St., and formerly of Rye Beach, died Saturday, April 10, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at the Rye Congregational Church, 580 Washington Road, Rye, Friday, April 23 at 11 a.m.
Friends invited. Visiting hours will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, Thursday, April 22, from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rye Congregational Church.
Karen Walton
EXETER - Karen M. Walton, 38, of 11 Charter St., died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at the Exeter Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Scotland, May 4, 1965, the daughter of Edward and Jean (Lambie) McQue.
She lived in Melrose, Mass., before moving to Hampton, graduating from Winnacunnet High School in 1983.
She had worked as a nurse’s aide and also for CCS Companies.
She had resided in Exeter the past four years coming from Seabrook.
In addition to her parents, family members include her husband, Frank R. Walton III, with whom she shared 17 years of marriage; one daughter, Danielle M. Walton; two sons, Frank R. Walton IV and Edward S. Walton, all of Exeter; two sisters, Noreen McQue of St. Cloud, Fla., and her twin sister, Alison Welch of Lowell, Mass.; nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to call Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
Private interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Seabrook. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the family in their time of need.
Donald Buell Sr.
MIDDLETON - Donald H. Buell Sr., 83, of 389 Ridge Road, passed away Friday, April 12, 2002, at home after a long illness.
Born in Albany, N.Y., on April 20, 1918, he was the son of Earl and Vivian (Herrick) Buell.
He lived in Saratoga County, N.Y., until 1978 when he moved to New Hampshire.
He was retired from General Electric Company of Schenectady, N.Y., after 32 years of service. Mr. Buell served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Schenectady Hall of Fame for baseball. He was an avid golfer and winner of numerous amateur tours while in New York. He enjoyed the outdoors.
Members of his family include his wife, Eileen (Keefe) Buell; son, Donald H. Buell Jr.; daughter, Diane Croteau; grandson, Michael; brothers, Harold of Scotia, N.Y., Earl of Hailey, Idaho; sister, Vivian of Schenectady; several nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Dorothy Byron
ROCHESTER - Dorothy Elise Byron, 78, of 273 Chestnut Hill Road, Rochester, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at her home.
Born in Sanford, Maine, on June 21, 1923, the daughter of Peter and Ida (Roberts) Costello. She was a former longtime resident of Sanford and moved here 32 years ago.
She was a graduate of the Portland School for the Deaf. She was a former employee of the Thompson Tool Co. of Rochester and had also worked for the Abbott Shoe Co.
Mrs. Byron has been a member of St. Joseph Church in Dover for over nine years.
She is survived by her husband, William J. Byron, Jr. of Rochester, whom she married in 1956; a sister, Janet Bickford of Parsonsfield, Maine; and two brothers, Roger Costello of Jay, Maine, and Billy Costello of Tyngsboro, Mass. and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church, 150 Central Ave., Dover. Relatives and friends are invited to call for one hour prior to the funeral Mass from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover.

Gary Christie
DOVER - Gary Christie, 51, of 167 Henry Law Ave., died Monday, April 15, 2002, at his residence after a sudden illness.
Born April 14, 1951, in Dover, he was the son of Thomas and Kay (Banaian) Christie.
He was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School and was employed as a stock clerk with Eastern Air Device.
He was a lifelong Red Sox fan and growing up was involved in the local youth baseball.
Survivors include his mother, Kay Christie of Dover; a brother, John Christie and his wife, Janet of Winthrop, Maine; one nephew, Nicholas Christie of Winthrop; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends and relatives may call Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. with a funeral service following at 11 a.m. at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., with the Rev. Robert Ervin, pastor, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Dover.

Colleen Clough
MILTON MILLS - Colleen J. Clough, 69, of Main Street, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at the Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Clough was born Brookfield, Dec. 6, 1933, the daughter of Harry W. and Phyllis (Grant) Morrill and had been living in Milton Mills for the past 50 years, moving from Wakefield.
She was communicant of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Sanbornville, a member of the Milton Womens’ Cub, the Historical Society of Milton, the Pleasant Valley Grange, the YAH’s and the Birthday Girls for several years. She loved to travel and also helped her mother, who has predeceased her, raise her sister, Phyllis L. Lavertue’s four children after her death.
Surviving members of the family include her husband of 51 years, Herbert. E. Clough of Milton Mills; two sons, Gerald H. Clough of Gilford, and David J. Clough of Milton, Mills; three brothers, Richard Ham of Acton, Maine Fred Morrill of Springvale, Maine and Donald Morrill of Acton, Maine; one sister, Goldie Day of Dover as well as four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews

Leon Cormier
ROCHESTER - Leon "Hank" Edward Cormier, 90, of 41 Charles St., died Saturday, April 13, 2002, at home following a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 16, 1911, in Rochester, the son of Fred V. and Mattie (Connell) Cormier.
Mr. Cormier served in the, U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Auburn. He worked in area shoe shops for many years and then as a greens keeper at the Rochester Country Club.
He was a lifelong resident of Rochester. He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Pauline A. (Hull) Cormier of Rochester; a son, David L. Cormier and his wife, Betty, of Rochester; two daughters, Sandra Clay of West, Texas, and Patricia M. Zyliak of Virginia Beach, Va.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday April 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester, with a funeral service immediately following in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will be in the Crown Point Cemetery, Rochester, at a later date.
Virginia Lamper
ALTON - Virginia E. Lamper, "Ginny", 75, of Route 28 South in Alton, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at home after a brief illness.
Born Jan. 16, 1927, in Gilmanton Iron Works, she was the daughter of Fred and Stella (Patten) Swett. She had resided in Alton most of her life.
A stitcher, she was employed for 30 years with Bill Freese in Alton, a division of Globe Manufacturing.
She is survived by her husband, George F. Lamper Sr., of Alton; one daughter, Virginia E. "Ginny" Caverly of Alton; three sons, George F. Lamper Jr., Harland A. Lamper and Fred H. Lamper, all of Alton; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, also several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Herbert Swett.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at C.E. Peaslee and Son Alton Funeral Home, School Street, Alton. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday April 17, 10 a.m., at the Community Church of Alton on Main Street, Alton, with the Rev. Peter Bolster, pastor officiating.

Eustice Michitson
HAVERHILL, Mass. - Eustice Michitson, 78, of Haverhill, died Monday, April 15, 2002, at the Oxford Manor.
He was born in Nashua, N.H., May 14, 1923, son of George and Sophia (Agaropoulos) Michitson.
At an early age, his family relocated to Haverhill, where he attended the Haverhill public schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1941.
During World War II, he served in the United States Air Force in the Philippines. After returning from the war he continued his education at Merrimack College, receiving his bachelor’s degree in education. He later earned a master’s degree in education from Salem State College. For many years he served as principal at the Ellis School in Freemont, N.H., and later taught at Whittier Vocational Technical High School until his retirement in 1986.
After retirement he was employed as a substitute teacher in Newton, N.H.
A former member of the Saggahew Lodge AF&AM, the AM Vets of Haverhill and had been active in area baseball teams including the P.A.L League and later the Northeast Baseball League.
Mr. Michitson also sold spinach pies to area stores and was know as "Spinach Man".
Survivors include his wife Beverly A. (Brooks) Michitson of Haverhill; four sons, George P. and his wife, Kimberly Michitson, Paul A. Michitson, Timothy S. and his wife, Mary Ellen Michitson, Bruce A. and his wife, Michelle Michitson, all of Haverhill; two daughters, Norma J.; Anderson of Brewster, Mass., and Nancy J. Michitson of Portsmouth, N.H.; two brothers, Arthur Michitson of Haverhill, Paul A. Michitson of Andover; a sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Helen) Gull of Framingham; 13 grandchildren and several cousins.
He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Hitchmoth and Theresa Bauman.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the funeral on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Son Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul.
Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Mary O’Connell
DOVER - Mary O’Connell of 67 Park Street died Monday, April 15, 2002, at her residence after a period of failing health.
Born Dec. 21, 1921, in Dover, she was the daughter of Christos and Grammatike Helen (Diniak) Stamnas. She was a graduate of Dover High School, Class of 1940. She was a lifelong member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation and the Annunciation Choir.
She was a member and past president of the Daughters of Penelope, Itona Chapter 177 and member and past president of the Alkistis Ladies’ Society.
She retired from Eastern Air Devices of Dover and from General Electric of Somersworth and bad been a member of the General Electric Retired Women. She was also a member of AARP, the Dover Senior Center and was a volunteer at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. She also did a lot of traveling.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Clarence "Chuck" O’Connell of Dover; a son, Christopher O’Connell and his wife, Judy, of Madbury; two daughters, Dorothea Pinkerton and her husband, Thomas, of Reston, Va., and Elizabeth Millard of Bristol, R.I.; four grandchildren, Selena Millard, Zachary Millard, Kristen O’Connell Starkey and Alexander O’Connell; a sister, Helen Koutrelakos and her husband, Gregory, of Dover; a brother Costas "Gus" Stamnas and his wife, Patricia, of Rochester and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Piantedosi and a brother, William Stamnas.

Reba Sloan
KITTERY POINT, Maine - Reba D. Sloan, 87, of, 476 Haley Road died April 13, 2002, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., on April 17, 1914, she was a daughter of Thomas J. and Reba M. Rutter. She graduated from Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia and was preparing for her 70th class reunion.
While living in Pennsylvania, she was employed by the Gimbil Brothers at Gimbil’s Department Store and at Cooperman’s Drug Store. She also served as a post mistress for the United States Postal Service. She enjoyed and supported the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Before moving year round to Maine, Mrs. Sloan owned and operated "Antiques and Things " in Islesboro, Maine, where they owned a summer home. She and her husband moved to Maine full time in 1967.
Mrs. Sloan led a very active life as past president of the Garden Club Federation of Maine, past president of the Old York Garden Club and the Kittery (Harbor side) Garden Club. She was a director of the Saco District Garden Clubs and served on the Nominating Committee of the National Council of States Federation of Garden Clubs and as a member of the Conservation Committee of National Council.
She attended flower show schools and landscape design schools in Massachusetts and in Maine. Mrs. Sloan earned the title of Flower Show Master Judge and Landscape Design Critic, and became a member of the Judges Council and Landscape Design Critics Council of Massachusetts and Maine. Her love of nature led her to organize a conservation committee for the Town of Kittery.
Because of her interest in landscaping she worked with citizens of York to preserve the wild grass meadow on Short Sands at York Beach and the planting of Rugosa Roses at the Nubble.
She was a former member of the Kittery Point Chapter of Ikenobana Ikenoba and was honored to exhibit an Ikebana arrangement at the Church of St. John the Divine in New York City. She attended several symposiums exhibiting across the United States.
Mrs. Sloan was a member of the Rye New Hampshire Art Study Group and with a friend organized Tours to Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, and Maine to visit Art Museums, that were showing the works of prominent artists. She was a student of Bonsai and a former member of the National Bonsai Association, she was an invited guest of the United State Department of Agriculture to attend and to view the Japanese Bonsai Collection at the United States National Arboretum in our Nations Capital.
Mrs. Sloan was also a member of the Board of the Wheeler Trust in York Maine.
She is survived by her husband of more than 60 years, Harry M. Sloan, of Kittery Point; her daughter and her husband, Ann and Armand Larochelle, of Rochester, N.H.; and her son and his wife, William M. and Ruth Muzzey of Kittery Point; two grandchildren, Laura Speth and Robert D. Muzzey, and four step-grandchildren Armand J. Larochelle III, Lisa Steinmetx, Laurie Innocenzi, and Bonnie Steinmetz as well as eight great-grandchildren and her beloved pet poodles Charlie and Buffy.

Earle Wentworth
NICEVILLE, Fla. - Earle T, Wentworth, 78, of Niceville, died Saturday, April 13, 2002. Mr. Wentworth was born in Somerville, Mass. He graduated Tufts University Medical College, Boston, as a physician. He had a general practice in Scituate, Mass., for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Board of Health , owner of the Wentworth Manor Nursing Home, member of the Massachusetts Medical Society, a member of the Association of Military Surgeons of the U.S., the Retired Officers Association, the American Legion, and a member of the Scituate Masonic Lodge A&FM. Mr. Wentworth came to the Niceville area in 1977 from Edwards Air Force Base, California.
He retired from the United States Air Force in 1987 with more than 20 years of faithful service having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed many hobbies including golf, camping, skimobiling, and mostly his precious grandchildren.
Mr. Wentworth was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janet Wentworth in 1983; and by a son, Edward Wentworth.
Survivors include his sons, Richard Wentworth of Arizona, Earle Wentworth III, U.S. Air Force of Nebraska, Arthur Wentworth of Niceville; daughters, Christa Gagnon of Rochester, N.H.,
Helena (Wentworth) Smith of Nevada, Gail "Patty" Wentworth of Massachusetts, Kathleen Branch of Sharpsburg, Ga.; 17 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
