NEW DURHAM - William McLaughlin of New Durham, formerly of Newton; husband of Svea "Skiffy" (Nelson); father of John "Pudge" McLaughlin of New Durham and the late William A. McLaughlin Jr.; brother of Edna Scales of Florida; grandfather of Christine, William, Stephen and Althea; great-grandfather of William, Eric, Jennifer and Evan; and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held in the Newton Cemetery Chapel, 791 Walnut St., Newton Centre, on Monday, April 14, at 11 a.m. Visiting hours are Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Gregory Mercier
LEBANON, Maine - Gregory Stephen Mercier, 54, of Richardson Drive, passed away, Thursday, April 10, 2003, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born on March 28, 1949, in Dover, N.H., he was the son of Albert and Priscilla (Breyere) Mercier.
He was a retired employee of General Electric of Somersworth, where he worked for over 30 years.
He was a resident of Lebanon for 25 years and enjoyed outdoor sports such as fishing, golf and gardening.
His hobbies included his love for poetry and writing.
He is survived by his mother, Priscilla (Breyere) Gunter of North Berwick; his wife of 35 years, Gloria (Breton) Mercier of Lebanon; one son, Sgt. Scott Mercier and his wife, Julie of Germany; two daughters, Kimberly Mercier of Rochester, N.H., and Jennifer Shorey and her husband, Brent of Lebanon; four brothers, Ron and Al Mercier of Dover, Tom Mercier of Litchfield, and Tony Mercier of North Berwick; one sister, Janet Litvinchyk and her husband, Alan of North Berwick; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Bruce Mercier and Peter Mercier.
He loved being with his family and friends.

David Paey Sr.
MILTON David G. Paey Sr., 66, of Elm Street, died peacefully at home, Wednesday, April 9, 2003.
Born July 31, 1936, in Rochester, he was the son of Clyde and Louise (Huntress) Paey.
He was a lifelong resident of Milton and a graduate of Nute High School, Class of 1954.
A U.S. Naval veteran, he served for 10 years during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He served in the blockade of Cuba and with the Armed Forces Police Detachment in New York, N.Y.
Mr. Paey was the owner and operator of Paey Construction of Milton for 20 years.
He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. in Milton.
He served as the water commissioner for the town of Milton the past 16 years, as chairman. He was a former selectman for the town of Milton.
He will be sadly missed and remembered by many.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Dorothy M. (Bickford) Paey of Milton; one daughter, Laronda and her husband, Paul Gonthier of Somersworth; two sons, David G. and his wife, Robin Paey Jr. of Milton, and Darrell E. Paey and his wife, Wendy Goslin of Lebanon, Maine; three grandchildren, Jessica L. Paey, Beth Marie Paey and Brice Andrew Paey; one sister, Cynthia and her husband, Donald Rand of Rochester; one niece; two nephews; and his special friend, his dog, Toby.
Family and friends are welcome to calling hours on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at C.E. Peaslee and Son Funeral Home, 32 Central St., Farmington.

LEE - Lt. Col. James F. Conlon Jr., retired, U.S. Air Force, 70, of 97 Garrity Road, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2003, after a lengthy illness.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road, Route 4, Lee. EDWARD J. 'TED' FRIEL
DOVER - Edward J. "Ted" Friel, 61, of 99 Old Rochester Road, died suddenly, on Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.
Born in Millinocket, Maine, on April 2, 1942, he was the son of Joseph F. and Vivian (Graham) Friel. He grew up in Millinocket and was a graduate of the St. Martins de Tours High School where he played basketball. He was also an avid football and basketball fan and loved traveling.
A former resident of Biddeford, Maine, he had lived in this area since 1978 and was a former longtime employee of the Eastern Air Devices of Dover.
He is survived by his wife, Betty J. (Ellis, Loubier) Friel; five stepsons, Dennis R. Loubier and his wife, Marcella of Alton Bay, Roland Loubier Jr. and his wife, Annette of Nottingham, Rocky E. Loubier of Albany, Ga., Dana S. Loubier and his wife, Carol of Madbury, and Kevin Loubier and his wife, Lynn of Albany; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Gloria Spaulding and her husband, Bob of Brunswick, Maine, Joyce Baron and her husband, Leon of Millinocket, and Georgianna Mandeiro and her husband, Ben of Coventry, R.I.; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and three stepchildren, Leon Loubier, Jesse Loubier and Betty-Jo Loubier.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover, with the Rev. Fritz Cerullo, OSA, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home for one hour prior to the funeral from 9 to 10 a.m.
Luke Hovland
MANCHESTER - Luke S. Hovland, 50, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, in Manchester.
He was the son of Arley M. and Jane (Holder) Hovland of Wolfeboro and Monroe Twp., N.J. He was born on April 14, 1953, in Newton, N.J., and raised in New Jersey. He had lived in New Durham for 19 years before moving to Manchester four years ago.
Mr. Hovland received his bachelor of science degree in forestry from Rutgers University and his master’s degree in forestry from the University of New Hampshire. He won many swimming competitions as a young man and, while at Rutgers, coached the swim club. Mr. Hovland loved to run and the outdoors.
He had worked for the Society for the Protection of N.H. Forests for 14 years and had owned Evergreen Ridge Christmas Tree Farm in New Durham for 14 years. Currently, Mr. Hovland was employed as an advertising sales specialist for Classic Signs in Amherst.
He was a member of the Grace Capital Church in Pembroke.
In addition to his parents, members of his family include his wife, Janice (Dozois) Hovland of Manchester; three daughters, Jessica and Stephanie of Dover, and Alexis Hovland of Manchester; two sisters, Pamela Stango and her husband, Robert of East Windsor, N.J., and Susan Dolci and her husband, Michael of Bethlehem, Pa.; and nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives may call at the First Congregational Church of Pembroke on Monday, June 9, from 6 to 7 p.m. Services will be held at 7 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Peter Bonanno, pastor of Grace Capital Church.
Flowers are welcome, but for those who wish, memorial donations should be made to the Grace Capital Church Building Fund.

Charles Bittner
DOVER - Capt. Charles K. Bittner, 83, of Dover Point Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at the Dover Rehabilitation Center.
Born June 14, 1920, in Somerset, Pa., he was the son of Edward F. and Bessie Mae (Schumaker) Bittner.
He graduated from Berlin High School in Pennsylvania, and later attended the University of Maryland.
He served in the U.S. Army Horse Calvary, U.S. Army Mechanized, U.S. Army Air Corp. and U.S. Air Force from 1941-1963. He was also employed with Kidder Press/Moore Business Forms of Dover, Avery Industries of Newington, and Winebaum News at the Fox Run Mall, Newington. He was also a member of the Heritage Baptist Church of Dover.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, V. Ilean (Bassett) Bittner of Dover; six sons, Charles Bittner Jr. and his wife, Maggie, of Exeter, Edward Bittner and his wife, Ann, of Portsmouth, Va., Jack Bittner and his wife, Sandy, of Redmond, Wash., Sam Bittner and his wife, Bonnie, of Dover, Barry Bittner and his wife, Diana, of Rollinsford, Gary Bittner of Independence, Mo.; two sisters, Marie Musser and her husband, Robert, of Pennsylvania, Marion Jones of Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He was predeceased by three brothers, Lester, Harold and Harry Bittner.
A funeral service will be held at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Steve Ridge from Heritage Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Dover.

Robert B. Bollman
CAPE NEDDICK, Maine - Robert Burton Bollman, 75, of Cape Neddick, husband of Lorraine (Hall) Bollman, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, at York Hospital, York.
He was born on July 16, 1928, in Gary, Ind., the son of Curtis B. and Madge (Whitney) Bollman. He was raised in Wisconsin and attended Milwaukee schools. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1952 and received his master’s degree from Marquette University in 1954. He also attended Yale University for two additional semesters. He also served in the Wisconsin National Guard.
He began his career in the newspaper business in 1954. He started as a reporter at the Republican American in Waterbury, Conn. He soon became editor of the school page and a Sunday feature writer. He also worked as the Cheshire correspondent and worked on the copy desk before working in Albany, N.Y. at the Knickerbocker News. He began work as copy desk chief of the Danbury News Times, in Danbury, Conn., in 1969, retiring in 1990 to Cape Neddick, Maine.
Throughout his life, he was a train enthusiast. He enjoyed reading railroad history, particularly the Midwestern rails.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Richard Bollman, and a sister, Mary McPherson.
A devoted husband and loving father, he is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Hall) Bollman and four children, a son, Robert Jr. and his wife, Janice, of Berwick; three daughters, Heidi Mary Bollman of Brattleboro, Vt.; Susan Lipton and her husband, James, of York; and Carol Chlosta of Cape Neddick, as well as four grandchildren, Rachel, Gregory and Benjamin Lipton of York, and Grace Chlosta of Cape Neddick. There is also an expectant grandson, Wesley, of Berwick.

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Mary I. Day, 72, of 26 Agamenticus Road, the widow of Herbert W. Day Sr., died peacefully Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Went-worth-Douglass Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born in Lincoln, N.H., Jan. 5, 1931, she was the daughter of Noyes F. and Susie (Brown) Bond Sr.
She was a graduate of Manchester Central High School. She moved to South Berwick in 1958 from Kittery. She formerly lived in Portsmouth, York and Greenland.
She was a homemaker and did child care for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of South Berwick.
Family members include two sons, Herbert W. Day Jr. of South Berwick; Robert T. Day and his wife, Lori, of Goose Creek, S.C.; two daughters, Lois Gray and her husband, James, of South Berwick, and Judith Suitter and her husband Leland Jr. of Berwick; two brothers, Rufus Bond and Raymond Bond, both of Concord, N.H.; one sister, Iris Day of Rockland; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Walter and Noyes Bond Jr.

Donald English
RAYMOND - Donald L. English, 78, of Raymond, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Nashua, Nov. 10, 1924, he was the son of Edward and Florence (Apt) English. He had been a resident of Raymond for many years. He retired in 1979 from Moore Business Forms where he worked as a commercial printer for many years.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the American, Atlantic Pacific, European, African and Middle Eastern Campaigns. He was the recipient of numerous military citations and honors.
He was a loving, patient, dedicated, and gentle husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. All those whose lives he has touched, will miss him.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Jeannette (Thibodeau) English, in 1975.
Family members include his wife of 27 years, Dorothy A. (Letendre) English of Raymond; four sons, Timothy English of Philadelphia, Jerry English of Warwick, R.I., Mark Guillemette of Kemper, Texas, and Roger Guillemette of Hinesville, Ga; two daughters, Gloria Coltrin of Vail, Ariz., and Julie Jenks of Raymond; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert English of New Ipswich, Mass.; a sister, Verna Paradise of Adirondack, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews.
