Frances Bohon
DOVER - Frances Erma Bohon, 99, formerly of Cocheco Park, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Riverside Rest Home.

Born in Moline, Ill., on June 18, 1905, she was the daughter of Hugo Walter and Anna Josephine (Johnson) Olson. During her younger years she worked as a model and came to Dover in 1978.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Walter George Curtis, III, of Shelburne, Vt., Maria Teresa Narganes of Lawrence, Mass.; eight great-grandchildren, Joshua, James, Nathaniel and Nicholas Curtis, Francisco, Cleste, Marina and Javier Narganes.

She was predeceased by her husband, George R. Bohon in 1982; her daughter, Donna Leah Curtis in 2003; and two grandchildren, Richard B. Curtis and Deborah Ann Curtis.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1 at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., friends are invited to attend.

Inurnment will follow in the Columbarium at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, Mass.

Those who wish are invited to make memorials in her name to the Riverside Rest Home, 276 County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820.

Roseina Butchart

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Roseina "Betty" Butchart, 89, of 110 Main St., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford after a long illness.

Born in Stoneham, Mass., on Feb. 11, 1915, she was the daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Gordon) Butchart. She lived in Charlestown, Mass. for 85 years of her life and spent summers in Acton, Maine at her sister’s home on Loon Pond and came to live with her sister, Agnes, five years ago.

Betty, as most people knew her by, was a quiet woman who enjoyed being around and enjoying her extended family.

She is survived by her sister, Agnes Roussin of South Berwick; three nieces, Betty Brock of South Berwick, Priscilla Boudreau of Rochester, N.H., Lucinda Loranger of Acton and a nephew, Arthur Roussin, of North Berwick.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31 at the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., with the Rev. Donna Lee Muise, pastor of the First Parish Federated Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham, Mass.

William Cashman

NEWMARKET - William N. Cashman, 88, formerly of Gordon Avenue, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at Pines of Newmarket, with his family at his side. His wife of 64 years, Mildred A. (Feltman) Cashman, died Jan. 22, 2005, and her funeral had been held earlier in the day. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Born June 16, 1916, in Lynn, Mass., he was the son of William and Lily (Mitchell) Cashman. He lived in Newmarket for many years.

During World War II, he served his country in the Seabees.

For 24 years, he worked at Gallant Manufacturing Company in Newmarket as a superintendent and he also worked three years for Timberland Shoe in Newmarket. After retirement, he remained active by working part-time for Dick Bajger at Seacoast Machine in Newmarket.

He was a member and former Deacon of the Newmarket Community Church and was also a member of Rising Star Lodge 47 F. & A.M. in Newmarket.

He was predeceased by his wife; two brothers, Chesley C. Cashman and Alfred V. Cashman; and two sisters, Minnie Ruth Jonah and Edith Phelan.

Survivors include his two daughters, Edith Beaudet and her husband, Richard, and Marjorie Tessier and her husband, Denis, all of Newmarket; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, Jan. 30 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. Masonic Services will be held at 2 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gail Kindberg, officiating.

In the spring he and his wife will be laid to rest, side by side in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket.

Alice Cadieux

ROCHESTER - Alice S. Cadieux, 95, formerly of 5C Wellsweep Acres and 2 Walnut St., died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at Riverside Rest Home, Dover, where she had been a resident for the past four years, after a period of failing health.

She was born on July 1, 1909, in Laconia, N.H., and was the daughter of Joseph and Virginie (Enaire) Valliere. She was raised in Laconia, attending schools in that community. She moved to Rochester in 1936.

Before her retirement, she had been employed as a sales clerk in various jewelry and dress shops, including Larochelle Jewelers, J. C. Penney and Ainslei Drugs.

She was a communicant of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and held membership with the Third Order of Saint Francis, Rochester, N.H. She was also a member of The St. Anne Sodality of Holy Rosary Church.

Family members include several cousins, nieces, nephews and her friends in Rochester.

There is no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Rochester, N.H. Burial will be in the spring in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Seacoast Hospice, 642 Central Ave., Dover, NH 03820.

The Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South St., Somersworth, N.H., has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.

Cecile Dubois

SOMERSWORTH Cecile O. Dubois, 87, of 15½ Cemetery Road, Somersworth, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at her home.

She was born in Somersworth, April 29, 1917, the daughter of Omer and Delia (Dubois) Veilleux. Cemetery Road had been her home since she was 2-years-old.

She was educated at St. Martin Academy and was a communicant of St. Martin Church in Somersworth. Growing up she loved her music and for many years, she was a student of piano with the Sisters of the Holy Cross.

Her many hobbies, reading, knitting, crocheting, playing bingo, and cards kept her busy and very active. She also enjoyed traveling, touring many countries in Europe, and also many states and provinces of Canada.

Hard working all her life, she worked at Somersworth Shoe, did home moccasin lacing for Weiss-Lawrence for many years, and also worked at Davidson Rubber, and after many years, retired from the Somersworth hot lunch program.

She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfrid Dubois, who died in 1974; two grandsons, Scott Dubois in 2002; and Ronald Lentz in 1962; two brothers, Alfred Veilleux and Raymond Veilleux.

Survivors include her children, Ronald Dubois and his wife, Cecilia, Richard Dubois and his wife, Claire, both of Somersworth, Roland Dubois of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Priscilla Dietmeyer and her husband, Howard, of Las Vegas, Nev., Dolores Lentz and her husband, Fred, of Somersworth; a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Dubois, of Somersworth; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Lionel Veilleux of Somersworth and Maurice Veilleux of Sanford, Maine; a sister, Lucille Morin of Bluff City, Tenn.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Roberge Funeral Home, 298 High St., Somersworth, N.H.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Martin Church with Fr. Aaron Pffaf, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.

Barbara Hall

PORTSMOUTH - Mrs. Barbara V. Hall, 85, of 29 Sunset Road, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

She was born in Kittery, Maine, on Feb. 14, 1919, the daughter of Fred and Jennie J. (Hoover) Fuller.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Portsmouth.

Besides her husband of 65 years, Kenneth B. Hall, survivors include her son, Gareth Hall of Portsmouth; and daughter, Bonnie Witt of Dover; four grandchildren, Michelle Witt, Lisa Witt, Ryan Rogers and Melinda Rogers, all of Dover; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Will and Alyssa Will, both of Dover; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 129 Miller Ave., Portsmouth, N.H., Saturday at 2 p.m. Friends invited. There will be no visiting hours. Flowers will be accepted. Donations in memory of Mrs. Hall may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 10 Ferry Street, Suite 427B, Concord, NH 03301-4059.

The J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel are assisting with arrangements.

Myrtle Kenney

MILTON - Myrtle E. Kenney, 74, formerly of Milton Road in Milton, died Friday morning, Jan. 21, 2005, at Riverside Rest Home in Dover.

Born Oct. 27, 1930, in Jay, Maine, a daughter of Charles and Hazel A. (Smith) James, she was raised in Maine and had resided in Milton for many years.

Prior to retirement, she was a shoeworker with Lloyd Davis Shoe in Somersworth.

She especially loved her grandchildren, she also loved birds and flowers.

The widow of the late Dennis E. Kenney, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel D. and Lorraine Kenney of E. Lebanon, Maine; a grandson, Mark and his wife, Laura Kenney; and two great-granddaughters, Danielle and Desirae, all of Lebanon, Maine; a brother, David and wife, Faye James, of Milton; two sisters, Christine Staples and Helen Hall, both of Jay, Maine; also several nieces and nephews.

As per Myrtle’s request, there are no services planned. Interment will be in the spring at the Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton, Maine.

A special thank you is extended to the caregivers at Riverside Rest Home, by her family.

Arrangements are in the care of Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central St., Farmington, NH 03835.

Joseph Mooney

PORTSMOUTH - Joseph A. Mooney of 22 Coakley Road, Portsmouth, N.H., husband of Mary A. Mooney for 58 years, died suddenly Thursday morning, Jan. 27, 2005, at home. He was 79.

Born in North Whitefield, Maine, on March 19, 1925, he graduated from Gardiner High School in 1943. Soon there after he joined the Rangers, serving with C Company, 2nd Ranger Battalion, which went ashore on Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion of German-occupied Europe.

A decorated veteran of five major campaigns, he was wounded in Germany before the end of the war, returning home on the Queen Mary.

Married in 1947, he had lived in Portland and Kittery, Maine, before moving to Portsmouth in 1959.

He had worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 35 years, retiring from the Supply Department in 1985.

Besides his wife, he is survived by six children, Dennis Mooney and his wife, Devina, of Eliot, Maine, Ann Marie Cushing and her husband, Randall, of Greenland, Philip A. Mooney, of Germantown, Md., Thomas F. Mooney of North Attleboro, Mass., Elizabeth Arcieri and her husband, Bill, of Newmarket, and Patricia Foster and her husband, David, of Saco, Maine; nine grandchildren, Sarah Scott and her husband, Jeff, of Rye, Kimberly Cushing of Boston, Mass.; Ashlie Mooney of Barrington, Patrick and Rose Mooney of North Attleboro, Kelsey and Joseph Arcieri of Newmarket, and Veronica and Samuel Foster, of Saco, Maine.

A wake will be held Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine’s of Sienna Catholic Church, 845 Woodbury Ave., Portsmouth.

William Randall

NOTTINGHAM - William Lord Randall, 59, of Stage Road, died at his residence on Monday, Jan. 24 2005.

He was born on July 1, 1945, the son of Thomas Robert and Betty (Lord) Randall of Mass. He resided with his foster parents, J. Rodney and Frances Bascom in Nottingham, NH.

William coped well with his life-long disability; he is an inspiration to all when they met him. He was a historical buff, Presidents and government was his favorite. He worked at the dining hall at the University of New Hampshire for 22 years.

He is survived by his foster parents, J. Rodney and Frances Bascom of Nottingham; many devoted foster sisters and brothers; especially appreciated by Laurie, Darnita, Paula and John from Rochester VNA; a neighbor, Donna Travis; Patsy Rayno, Francis Downings, all of Nottingham.

Arrangements are under the direction of Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road, Route 4, Lee, N.H.

A graveside service will be held later in the spring at South Side Cemetery in Nottingham, N.H.

Isabella Shaw

ROCHESTER - Isabella L. Shaw, 102, formerly of Washington Street, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at the Rochester Manor after a period of failing health.

She was born June 21, 1902, in Littleton, N.H., the daughter of Arthur and Mary Ricard. She had resided in Rochester most of her life where she worked as a shoe repairer at several of the local show companies. She was a very giving person and she loved being a homemaker.

The widow of Roy Shaw, who died in 1987, she is survived by one son, Edward "Cat" Shaw and his companion of 32 years, Marguerite Warder, of Forest Heights, Md.; two grandchildren, Rick Stevens of Lakeland, Fla., Rod Stevens of Crystal River, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Brian, Danny, Connie and Michelle Stevens and three great-great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Arthur and his wife, Celia Jacobs, of Rochester; and other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Constance (Shaw) Roberge in 1980; and a son, Harold Stevens in 1999; and four sisters and two brothers.

Family and friends may visit Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester, N.H.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, North Main St., Rochester, N.H. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Brock Street, Rochester, N.H. in the spring.

Steven Smith

BERWICK, Maine - Steven Smith of Berwick, Maine, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover. He was 2½ years old.

Steven, the son of Melissa Smith and Jayson Merrow was born May 29, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchkock Medical in Lebanon, N.H.

He lived most of his life in New Durham, N.H., and attended Wolfeboro Area Children’s Center. He moved to Berwick, Maine with his mom in the fall of 2004.

He was a sweet little boy who touched everyone’s hearts. His smile always brightened up any room.

Starting his day with waffles for breakfast, Steven loved life. He was popular everywhere he went and was a social butterfly. He loved mun-mun’s (munchkins) from Dunkin Donuts, fra fries (french fries) from McDonalds. He would also love to shop at the mall with his mom.

At night before bed, he liked a good story read to him, and insisted on his Spider Man ki-ki (blanket), his sippie cup, his baby (pacifier), and his pillow before going to sleep.

He is survived by his mother, Melissa Smith, of New Durham; his father, Jason Merrow of Ossipee; his grandparents, Joey L. Smith of New Durham and Natalie Smith of Meredith, as well as Michael and Cathy Merrow of Ossipee; great-grandparents, John C. Smith of Lincoln Park, N.J., Gerald and Mary Wyse of Frystown, Pa., and several other close family members and friends who he will be truly and surely missed by.

On Tuesday, Jan. 25, there was a funeral service for Steven held at the Peaslee Funeral Home in Farmington. Thank you for all that attended, your outpouring of love was overwhelming. Steven will be buried in the spring at John C. Shirley Memorial Cemetery in New Durham, N.H.

Donations in Steven’s memory toward his burial may be made through his mother, Melissa Smith, at 19 Drew Road, New Durham, N.H. 03855.

Alice Vatistas

DOVER - Alice Vatistas, 83, of 304 Washington St., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, peacefully at her home with her family.

She was born Feb. 10, 1921, in Dover, the daughter of Efstathios and Vasiliki (Karageorge) Koumouchos and had resided in Dover all of her life. She was a 1939 graduate of Dover High School, where she played basketball.

She worked alongside her husband, Thomas, at the former Sweetland Restaurant in downtown Dover, the business owned and operated by three generations of the family. It is here, through her genuine warmth and kindness, that she made many life-long friends with whom she shared her many interests.

She was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Dover.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The widow of Thomas Vatistas, who died in 1997, members of her family include two daughters, Linda Rodden and her husband, John, of Somersworth and Valerie McShane and her husband, James, of Dover; one son, John Vatistas and his wife, Nancy, of Madbury; six grandchildren, Koren McShane, Kelly McShane, John Rodden, Jake Rodden, Tom Vatistas and Andy Vatistas; one sister, Effie Demetrakopoulos of Dover; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. Father Newman will conduct the Trisagion Service Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 93 Locust St., Dover. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Annunciation Cemetery.
