Paul Bergeron
EXETER - Paul E. Bergeron, 83, died May 25, 2002 of natural causes in the company of his family.

Born Aug. 24, 1918 in Exeter, he was the son of Fred and Lumina Bergeron.

He is a graduate of Exeter High School, the Naval Shipyard program and the U.S. Army Air Corps Cadet program. A retired Air Force Major and bomber pilot, Paul served as a career military officer in the U.S. Air Force. His flight service in included the B-29, B-36 and B-47. In addition to his military service, he worked as a private pilot and at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He was a proud member of St. Michael’s Church, the Knights of Columbus and an avid sailor.

Paul was the widower of Cecile B. (Levesque) Bergeron, who died in November 2000.

He is survived by nine children, 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His three sons, Michael Bergeron of Wakefield, Robert Bergeron of Wakefield and Paul Bergeron of Candia; six daughters, Suzanne Bergeron of Barrington, Mary Hervey of Nottingham, Janet Marchetti of Eliot, Maine, Diane Albine of Stratham, Tricia Gauron of Hampton and Anne Sullivan of Exeter, invite all his friends and family to join them in honoring the life of their father.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 27, 2002 from 4-7 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14, Pine St., Exeter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at St. Michael’s Church. Burial will follow in the Exeter Cemetery with military honors.

Flowers are acceptable.

Nancy Brown

DOVER - Nancy Lee Brown, 60, of 44 Atlantic Ave., died at her residence after a period of failing health.

Born April 19, 1942 in Brunswick, Maine, the daughter of Forrest and May (Mullen) White, she was a graduate of Freeport High School Class of 1960 with honors. She was former Miss Freeport, Maine, and also 5th runner-up for the Miss State of Maine.

Nancy moved to Dover from Freeport, Maine, in 1986. She enjoyed gardening, music, travel and a loving passion for her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband James Reed Brown (married Feb. 16, 1963 of Dover; two sons, Michael R. Brown and his wife Barb of Freeport, Maine, and Mattew A. Brown and his wife Erika of Lee; three daughters, Mrs. Teri L. Morrill and her husband Terry of Litchfield, Maine, Mrs. Susan M. Mathews and her husband Much of Aurora, Colo.; one brother, Forrest White of Dover, Del.; three sisters, Mrs. Jean Swain and Mrs. Pearl Schmidt, both of Spring Hill, Fla, and Mrs. Barbara Emmons of Topham, Maine; nine grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and family may call Tuesday, May 28, 2002 from 6-8 p.m. at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at 4 p.m. in the First Parish Congregational Church, 40 Main St., Freeport, Maine, with the Rev. Hohn Ward-Diorio officiating.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Rochester Rural District VNA and Hospice, 178 Farmington Road, Rochester, N.H. 03867.

Thomas Delimont

NEWMARKET - Thomas L. Delimont, 47, of 100 Main St., died suddenly May 25, 2002 at his home in Newmarket.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, Newmarket.

Lowell MacIvor

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine - Lowell E. "Red" MacIvor, 58, loving husband of "Girlie," passed away and went to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, May 25, 2002 at a Presque Isle hospital.

He was born in Presque Isle April 2, 1944, the son of Richard and Frances (Shean) MacIvor.

"Red" served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Alaska. He worked at McCain’s Foods as a security guard. "Red" liked to fish and enjoyed the company of two fishing buddies, Robert "Buzzy" Hafford and James Dunn. He attended the Grant Memorial Methodist Church in Presque Isle.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma "Girlie" MacIvor and a son, Darin, of Presque Isle; his mother, Frances Laing of Berwick; two grandchildren, Cody and Kyle; three sisters and their husbands, Dot Chasse and her husband, Dave (a very special brother-in-law) of Masardis, Pamela "Penny" Churchill of Washburn, April Bennett and her husband, Reg of Wells; several nieces and nephews including two special nieces, Kelley Chasse and Trisha Beals of Presque Isle; a special friend, Ivan Corriveau of Presque Isle.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Grant Memorial Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Blackstone officiating. Relatives and friends may call 7-9 p.m. on Monday at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.

Hazel Sherman

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Hazel B. Sherman, 81, died May 23, 2002 at her daughter’s home.

She was born in Littleton, N.H., on Aug. 26, 1920, a daughter of Lafayette and Eva (Drew) Boudreau.

Hazel was a graduate of Littleton High School in the class of 1938. She was a waitress at the Littleton Diner and employed by Connors and Hoffman for several years, prior to moving to Dover, N.H. She was employed by the Miller Shoe Shop in Dover for 10 years. Hazel was a volunteer for the Dover House Health Care and the Dover Red Cross blood bank. She was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church of Dover and its Friendly Club. She resided in Dover until her husband’s death, after which she moved to California.

She is survived by her daughter, Lorna and Ronald Aldrich of Chula Vista; three grandsons, Randall and wife, Sheila Aldrich of Chula Vista, Scott and wife Kelly Aldrich of Destin, Fla., Terry and wife Alicia Aldrich of Phoenix, Ariz.; one granddaughter, Debbie and husband Shawn Hubbard of Ft. Myers., Fla.; great-grandchildren, Shelly Aldrich of Chula Vista, Dustin Aldrich of Destin, Fla., Jeremy and Justin of Phoenix, Ariz., Kyle and Emily of Ft. Myers, Fla.

She is predeceased by her husband, Glenn Sherman; a son, Kenneth Sherman; a sister, Lena Sherman; and three brothers, Clyde, Curtis and Carl Boudreau.

A funeral service will be held June 4, 2002 at 1 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union St., Littleton, N.H., followed by burial in Glenwood Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Hazel’s memory to San Diego Hospice, 4311 Third Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.

Bo Widmark

DOVER - Bo Johan Widmark, 86, of 4 Briarwood Lane, died early Saturday, May 25, 2002 at his residence after a period of failing health.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover.

Alexander Winward Jr.

AVON PARK, Fla. - Alexander Winward Jr., 79, passed away on May 24, 2002.

He was born in Methuen, Mass., to the late Alexander Winward Sr. and Helen L. Holroyd. He was raised in Andover, Mass., and graduated from Punchard High School. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in both the African and South Pacific theater as a nose gunner on a B-24 Liberator.

On Sept. 1, 1943, he married the late Mary T. Sanford and became a longtime resident of North Andover, Mass. He also resided in Haverhill, Mass., Somersworth, N.H., and Wakefield, N.H. He was a master mechanic, a carpenter and a truck driver. For many years, he was employed as an industrial inspector and safety engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. After retiring, he again became a truck driver until his final retirement in 1997, at which time he moved to Avon Park.
He was the past commander of VFW Post 2104 in North Andover, Mass., and a current member of VFW Post 9853 in Avon Park. He was a past member of BPOE No. 165 in Haverhill, Mass., and No. 2774 in Ossipee, N.H. and a current member of No. 1529 in Sebring, Fla. He was also a member of the "Cam Snappers" auto club in Newburyport, Mass.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen M. and Nelson P. (Red) Smith of Avon Park; one brother, John Winward of Lowell, Mass.; one aunt, Gladys Winward, Kennedy Suprono of Alhambra, Calif., and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Besides being predeceased by his parents and his wife, he was also predeceased by two brothers, Albert of Lawrence, Mass., in World War II and Walter of Andover, Mass.; and two sisters, Ruth Risner of Wheelersburg, Ohio and Doris Smith Adams of Haverhill, Mass.

A memorial service will be held for family and friends at VFW Post 9853 in Avon Park, on Sunday, June 2, 2002 at 5 p.m. Burial will take place sometime this summer in North Andover, Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America, 386 Park Ave. South, New York, N.Y. 10016-8804.

P. Wayne Eaton
BELMONT - P. Wayne Eaton, 92, of 15 School St., died at his home, Saturday, July 27, 2002. He was the widower of Barbara B. (Bryant) Eaton who died in 1996,

Mr. Eaton was born Oct. 19, 1909, in Belmont, the son of Charles R. and Melissa (Sanborn) Eaton. He was a lifelong resident of Belmont.

Mr. Eaton served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had been employed at Belmont Hosiery for 25 years and also at Scott & Williams for 19 years.

Mr. Eaton was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Belmont and had served as chairman of the building committee.

Survivors include a son, Richard W. Eaton and his wife, Diann Eaton of Belmont; a step-granddaughter, Tracy Albey of Tilton; two nieces, Anne Mills of Waltham, Mass.; and Jane O’Neil of Florida; and a nephew, Philip Bowler of Merrimack.

There will be no calling hours,

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at 11 a.m. in South Road Cemetery, Belmont. The Rev. Charles Crook, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Belmont, will officiate.

Leo Gagnon
SOMERSWORTH - Leo Joseph Gagnon, 87, of 39 Myrtle St., died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital after a sudden illness.

He was born on Jan. 11, 1915, in Somersworth and was the son of Henri and Clarida (Turgeon) Gagnon. He was raised in this community and was a graduate of St. Martin Academy. He attained his G.E.D. in 1981 at Portsmouth at the age of 66, an accomplishment that was important and meaningful in his life.

Prior to his retirement in 1977, he had been employed as a set up man in General Electric in Somersworth with over 25 years of service. He was also a carpenter by trade and had worked in the construction industry before his tenure with General Electric. Carpentry was his hobby and he enjoyed building and remolding, that enjoyment could be seen by the homes he built for his family. He had also helped on several construction projects in the area including work that he had done on St. Joseph Church in Dover.

He was very active in community affairs. He served three terms on the city council, served on the Somersworth Police Commission and on numerous city boards. He was a former vice president of the Holy Name Society at St. Martin Church. He was a member of the Association Canado Americain (A.C.A.) and a member of the G.E.E.A Association.

He was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He was known to his great-grandchildren as "Other Pepere." He enjoyed playing cards with all generations of the family and loved music.

He was a very devout Catholic, who was always seen at daily Mass. He served as an Eucharistic minister at St. Martin Church.

Family members include his wife of 66 years, Laurianna (Perreault) Gagnon of Somersworth; his children, Mrs. Delmore (Vivian) Guilmette of Somersworth, Donald Gagnon and his wife, Jacqueline of Palm Coast, Fla., and Priscilla Gagnon of Somersworth; seven brothers, J. Maurice Gagnon of Somersworth, Raymond Gagnon of Hampton, Roland Gagnon, Armand Gagnon, both of Somersworth, Paul Gagnon of North Berwick, Maine, George Gagnon of Somersworth and Andre Gagnon of Lebanon, Maine; four sisters, Mrs. Antoinette Deschenes of Somersworth, Mrs. Gerard (Eva) Roberge of Rochester, Anna Charpentier of Pompino Beach, Fla., and Rita Lagueux of Somersworth; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild; many nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Martin and Richard Gagnon; a sister, Lillian Routhier; and his son, Norman Gagnon, who died in 1992.

Calling hours at Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South St., Somersworth, will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Martin Catholic Church, 121 Maple St., at 11 a.m. on Wednesday with the Rev. Aaron Pfaff, as main celebrant.

Burial will follow in the family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth.

Mary Gelinas

ROCHESTER - Mary Elizabeth "Lorraine" (Winkley) Gelinas, 76, of 15 Lyons St., died peacefully at the Rochester Manor on Saturday, July 27, 2002, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

During her illness, she was in the constant care of her devoted husband, Oscar, and their children. She is remembered as a loving and nurturing wife and mother who dedicated her adult life to her children and family. Her gentle touch, soft smile and kindness will always be cherished by everyone who knew her.

She was born on July 4, 1926, in Rochester, the first of four daughters of Harry and Ada (Potvin) Winkley.

She attended Rochester schools graduating from Spaulding High School in 1944.

She married Oscar Raymond Gelinas on Aug. 10, 1947, at St. Mary’s Church in Rochester. This year would have marked their 55th anniversary.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Oscar; her three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Linda Gelinas of Rochester, Thomas and Donna Gelinas of Winter Park, Fla., and Daniel and Pamela Gelinas of Rochester; her grandchildren, Scot Gelinas of Knoxville, Tenn., Matthew, Andrew, Eric, Bryan and Casey Gelinas of Rochester; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and James Scott, Marjorie and Arthur Nesbitt, all of Rochester.

She was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Marylin and Virgil Grignon of Raynham, Mass.

Family and friends may visit today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. Mary Church, Lowell Street, Rochester, with the Rev. Francis Kelso, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Kimball Cemetery, Meaderboro Road, Rochester.

Josephine LePage

NEWMARKET - Josephine S. LePage, 84, formerly of Exeter St., died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at the Rockingham Nursing Home in Brentwood, where she had resided for the past four years.

Born May 22, 1918, in Newmarket, she was the daughter of Stanley and Henryka (Hendzel) Bargiel. She had resided in Newmarket for most of her life.

She was first employed at Sam Smith Shoe and then was a weaver for Gallant Manufacturing Co. Later she worked at Timberland Shoe.

A communicant of St. Mary’s Church, she was also a member of the American Citizens Club of Polish Descent, the Polish Women’s Circle and the Robert G. Durgin American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 67, all of Newmarket.

She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond LePage, who died in 1981.

She was survived by two sons, Edward R. LePage of Nazareth, Pa., and Philip G. LePage of Newmarket; and several cousins.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. Legion Auxiliary services will be held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from St. Mary’s Church, Main Street, Newmarket, with the Rev. John Finnigan as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

Martha Marcotte

DOVER - Martha Marcotte, 67, of 110 Sixth St., died Friday, July 26, 2002, at Concord Hospital.

Born Jan. 11, 1935, in Berlin, she was the daughter of Roderick and Helen (Grasse) MacLeod.

A teacher, she taught at the Hampton Junior High Academy for 40 years.

She enjoyed reading and cross-stitching. She loved her children and teaching.

Survivors include her husband, Paul R. Ruel of Dover; two daughters, Rhonda Marcotte of Dover and Tammy Lopes of Lakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jarred Marcotte and Todd, Timothy and Hayley Giles; three great-grandchildren; and one cousin.

There will be no services.

Those who wish may make memorial donations in her name to the American Diabetes Association, New England Region, 249 Canal St., Manchester, NH 03101.

Arrangements under the direction of Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., and Oyster River Crematory, Route 4, 2 Concord Road, Barrington.

James Rogers

PORTSMOUTH - James C. Rogers, 91, recently of the Mark H. Wentworth Home in Portsmouth, beloved husband of Eleanor (Eames) Rogers, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at York Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Cornwall, Conn., on March 5, 1911, the son of Miner P. and Jessie (Cochrane) Rogers. He was a graduate of New Milford High School in 1929 and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1933.

He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 30 years, retiring in 1966 as civilian head of quality control.

He raised his family in Kittery, Maine, where he served on the school board. He and his wife later moved to Eliot, Maine, where they made their home for more than 30 years.

After his retirement from the shipyard, he became a registered land surveyor, which he thoroughly enjoyed, finally retiring in 2001.

He was a member of the Naval Lodge in Kittery, past high priest of the former Unity Chapter in South Berwick, a member of Maine Royal Arch Chapter, past commander of St. Amand Commandry of Kennebunk, Knights of Red Cross of Constatine of Saco, The Sportsman Alliance of Maine and Southern Maine Fish and Game. He loved hunting and fishing and in his younger years skiing.

He was a member of the Congregational Church of Cornwall, Conn., for nearly 80 years and an associate member of the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Kittery.

Mr. Rogers was a devoted husband and father and always a good neighbor. He especially enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels in Kittery and Eliot.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a devoted daughter and her husband, Priscilla and Jay Boomer of Wells, Maine; four grandchildren, Kimberly Ring and her husband, John of Chapel Hill, N.C., Lt. James Boomer and his wife, Dr. Nicole McIntire-Boomer of Chesapeake, Va., Noah Rogers of Richmond, Va., and Dr. Joshua Rogers of Baltimore, Md.; and a great-grandson, John Maxwell Ring.

He was predeceased by his son, Dr. John F. Rogers, in 1997, and his sister, Esther Rogers Beeman, in 1966.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Kittery. Family flowers only.

Donations may be made in his memory to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104-2396.

Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.
