Madeline McCooey
DOVER - Madeline Rita McCooey, 89, of 35 Boston Harbor Road and Vero Beach, Fla., died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at her residence in Dover after a period of failing health.
Born Aug. 25, 1915, in Dover, she was the daughter of Hector and Anna (LaPointe) Turgeon. She was a lifelong resident of Dover, enjoyed gardening at her summer residence on Dover Point and wintering in Vero Beach with her family.
She was a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Joseph’s Church and was very active in church affairs.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John J. McCooey of Dover and Vero Beach; a son, Wayne T. McCooey of Dover; a daughter, Lynda Schopp and her husband, David, of Lake Forest, Ill.; two brothers, Edmond Turgeon of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dr. Raphael Turgeon of Cape Coral, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Germaine Grondin of Rochester and Mrs. Marguerite Potvin of Laconia; three granddaughters, Jessica B., Lesley A. and Lauren W. Schopp of Chicago, Ill; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at St. Joseph’s Church, 150 Central Ave., Dover. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Dover Point.
May Pauline Turmelle
DURHAM - May Pauline Turmelle, 72, of 4 Coe Drive died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital after a long illness.
She was born in Somersworth on Sept. 30, 1932, and was the daughter of Raoul and Lucinda (Throughworthy) Turmelle. She was raised in Somersworth, attending St. Martin Academy.
She enjoyed going to the Homemakers of Strafford County and enjoyed bowling, shopping and going out to eat.
Family members include her brother, Richard Turmelle and his wife, Nancy, of Springvale, Maine, and her sister, Lorraine Ouellette of Vernon, Conn. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother Raoul Turmelle and by her parents.
Calling hours at Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South St., Somersworth, will be on Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A wake service will be held in the funeral home at 7 p.m. Private burial services will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth.

Gertrude Whicher
KITTERY, Maine - Gertrude B. Whicher, 93, of Kittery died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 9, 1911, in Milbridge, she was the daughter of Henry and Mehitable (Tracy) Burke.
She worked as a waitress for many years in the Seacoast at restaurants, such as Warren’s in Kittery.
She is survived by her son, Henry Whicher and his wife, Florence, of Stratham, N.H., and a son-in-law, Robert Rowe of Dover, N.H.; four sisters, Marguerite Donnell of Franklin, Bessie Martin of East Sullivan, Hazel Fracola of Milbridge and Hilda Quinn of Elsworth; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Irvin E. Whicher, and her daughter, Martha Rowe.
Calling hours will be Tuesday at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the spring in the family lot at Oak Dale Cemetery in Sanford.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Meals on Wheels, 333 Lincoln St., Saco, Maine, or to Seacoast Hospice Program, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Mildred Cashman
NEWMARKET - Mildred A. Cashman, 83, formerly of Gordon Avenue, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at The Pines of Newmarket, with her family by her side. She had recently resided at Rockingham County Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 10, 1921, in Gardner, Mass., she was the daughter of Harry and Effie (Gannet) Feltman. She lived in Newmarket for most of her life.
She worked as a cementer at Rockingham Shoe Company, Pittsfield Shoe, and Timberland Shoe.
She was a member and former Deaconess of the Newmarket Community Church and was also a member of the Parish Circle.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Doris White and Charlotte Bennett.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, William N. Cashman of Newmarket; two daughters, Edith Beaudet and her husband, Richard, and Marjorie Tessier and her husband, Denis, all of Newmarket; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Irving Feltman of Gardner, Mass., and Richard Feltman of Jaffrey; a sister, Barbara Bourgeois of Baldwinville, Mass.; several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gail Kindberg, officiating.
Burial will take place in the spring in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket.

Ruth Gowen
NEWMARKET - Ruth C. Gowen, 54, of Wadleigh Falls Road, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Exeter Hospital, after a four year battle with breast cancer.
Born April 23, 1950, in Troy, N.Y., she was the daughter of Earl Vincent Lester and Bernice (Goetz) Lester. She had resided in Newmarket since 1973.
She was a 1981 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, and a 1987 graduate of Concord Technical Nursing School.
She worked as a nurse at the Portsmouth Pavilion.
She enjoyed the outdoors while camping, snowmobiling, and playing tennis. She also did quilting and painting.
She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Robert L. Gowen of Newmarket; two daughters, Christine Marie Breton of Piermont, and Judith K. Miller of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two stepsons, Gregory S. Gowen of Newmarket and Jonathan B. Gowen of West Palm Beach, Fla.; four very special grandchildren, Nicholas Michel Breton, Madison Kaye Breton, Jillian Bea Miller and Link Armstrong Gowen; two sisters, Mary Taylor of Portsmouth, Va., and Evelyn A. Lester of Woodbridge, Va. She was predeceased by a stepson, David Glenn Gowen and by a brother, Dennis Michael Lester.

DOVER - Sylvia (Vlahos) Isaacson, 76, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital after a long period of failing health.
She was a resident of 118 Court St., Dover, N.H., wife of former sports editor at Foster’s Daily Democrat, Toralf (Ike) Isaacson.
She was born Aug. 16, 1928, in Rollinsford, N.H., the daughter of Nicholas and Velma (Scripetis) Vlahos, youngest of 9 children. She attended Dover schools and was a graduate of Dover High School, Class of 1947.
She was employed at G.E. of Somersworth in her younger years. She then worked at the Giant Store in Dover and the IGA in Somersworth.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Toralf H.(Ike) Isaacson; one daughter, Marlene Taylor of Rollinsford; two sons, George Isaacson of Somersworth, and Bruce Isaacson and wife, Patty, of Alton Bay; one grandson, Troy Taylor and wife, Karen, of Gonic; a sister, Edna Vlahos of Dover and a brother, George Vlahos of Somersworth; several nieces and nephews; two special friends from 2nd grade, Dotty Daigle of Dover and Verna Légere of Mandeville, La.
She was predeceased by five brothers, Charles, Peter, Johnny, James, Arthur and a sister, Sophie.

Einar Nelson
ROCHESTER - Einar D. Nelson, 91, of Whitehall Road, died Sunday Jan., 23, 2005, at the Rochester Manor following a period of failing health.
Born Aug. 2, 1913, in Hoganas, Sweden, he was the son of Axel and Esther (Larson) Nelson.
He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s at Fort Devens in Massachusetts. A longtime resident of Worcester, Mass., he was a graduate of the Worcester Trade School as a cabinetmaker and later he worked as a press operator and supervisor for the Norton, Co. in Worcester and was a member of Vasa Order of America and the Greendale Lutheran Church.
Members of his family include two daughters, Marilyn Audet and her husband, Henry, of Rochester, Carol Ann Bottomley and her husband, David, of Eden Prairie, Minn.; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and two nieces.
He was predeceased by his wife, A. Evelyn (Josephson) Nelson in 1997, and his stepmother, Cigne (Erlinson) Nelson.

Isabella Shaw
ROCHESTER Isabella L. Shaw, 102, formerly of Washington Street, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at the Rochester Manor after a period of failing health.
She was born June 21, 1902, in Littleton, N.H., the daughter of Arthur and Mary Ricard. She had resided in Rochester most of her life where she worked as a shoe repairer at several of the local shoe companies. She was a very giving person and she loved being a homemaker.
The widow of Roy Shaw, who died in 1987, she is survived by one son, Edward "Cat" Shaw and his companion of 32 years, Marguerite Warder, of Forest Heights, Md.; two grandchildren, Rick Stevens of Lakeland, Fla., Rod Stevens of Crystal River, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Brian, Danny, Connie and Michelle Stevens and three great-great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Arthur and his wife, Celia Jacobs, of Rochester, and other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Constance (Shaw) Roberge in 1980 and son, Harold Stevens in 1999 and four sisters and two brothers.

Ruth Chamberlain
HAMPTON - Ruth D. (Dearborn) Chamberlain, 82, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen.
Mrs. Chamberlain, the daughter of Samuel J. and Blanche L. (Dunsmoor) Dearborn, was born in Manchester on July 24, 1919. She was raised in Manchester and also lived in Washington, D.C., and Hampton. Mrs. Chamberlain was a graduate of Manchester Central High School and Colby Junior College. Later, she attended Boston University Law School.
Prior to retirement, she was employed for more than 30 years as a secretary for the U.S. Department of the Air Force, working in Washington, D.C., at Grenier Air Force Base in Manchester and at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth.
Mrs. Chamberlain was a member and past Noble Grand of the Rebekahs, Arbutus Lodge, in Manchester.
She was the widow of John Chamberlain and is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Earl J. and Ruth Dearborn of Pembroke; and a niece, Jane Fillmore of Londonderry.
Graveside services were held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester. Petit Funeral Home of Pembroke was in charge of arrangements.

KITTERY, Maine - Anne E. Blader, 65, of Pepperell Road, Kittery Point, died suddenly Thursday at York Hospital.

Jayne Copeland
KITTERY, Maine - Jayne Marie Copeland, 42, of Cutts Road died on Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cystic fibrosis.
Born in Cambridge, Mass., on Oct. 2, 1959, she was a daughter of William and Joan (Brooks) Fuller and attended local schools, graduating from Billerica High School with the Class of 1978.
She made her home in Kittery 10 years ago, coming from the Billerica/Lowell, Mass., area with her family.
Jayne was known to many for her sharp with and sense of humor, as well as her willingness to help when it was needed and as a special mom and friend.
She was employed at a number of businesses in the Seacoast, including The Anchorage Inn, Sheraton Hotel and Bradlees department store. For the last four years, she was a dedicated homemaker.
She is survived by her mother, Joan Fuller of Lowell, Mass.; her grandmother, Marguerite Brooks of Peabody, Mass.; her children, daughters Kristen Fuller of Somersworth, N.H., and Angela Copeland of Kittery, Maine, and her son, Nathan Copeland of Kittery, Maine; her brother, William Fuller, and his fiancee, Dawn Friant of Lowell, Mass.; a sister, Linda Hastey of Portsmouth, N.H.; grandchildren Sklyne Lucas and Ashley Lucas of Somersworth, N.H.; and her niece and nephew, Amber and Freddy Ouellette. She is also survived by a dear and supportive friend, Paula Watt.
