Michael Pardue Sr.

ROANOKE, Va. - Michael Allen Pardue Sr., 57, of Roanoke went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 21, 2004.

He is preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Pardue of Salem; his mother, Georgia Mae Rogers; his paternal grandparents, Herbert and Vivian Pardue; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Rogers.

He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Coast Guard on the cutter Humboldt stationed in Portland, Maine, and the ice cutter Yankton stationed in South Portland, Maine. He was a very friendly and outgoing person. He made and kept many good friends while living in the Portland and
Dover, N.H., areas.

He was an excellent cook, an avid gardener and enjoyed motorcycling with his wife, Debra.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Robertson Pardue; a son, Michael Allen Pardue Jr. of Portland; a daughter, Amy Pardue Currie, and her husband, Kendrick, of Portland; grandchildren, Caelen McDonnell Pardue and Kaitlyn Noelle Currie, both of Maine; stepdaughters, Lindsay Ellen Schaffer and Megan Katherine Schaffer; a sister, Jeanette Nicely, and friend, Charles Floyd, of Blue Ridge; his mother-in-law, Ellen Robertson; a brother-in-law, Sanford Robertson, and his wife, Velma; and special friends, David Sarver, John Moran and Barbara Bonney.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, July 26, 2004, at Oakey’s North Chapel in Roanoke, Va., with the Rev. Frank Feather officiating. Interment was in Franklin Memorial Park with military honors.

Westley Perry

PORTSMOUTH - Westley A. Perry, 95, widower of Diane (Dyer) Perry, of 928 South St., died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at The Edgewood Centre.

He was born in Lancaster on May 24, 1909, the son of the late Fred M. and Sadie (Harney) Perry. He attended Portsmouth schools and graduated from Portsmouth High School, Class of 1928.

He was a former employee of Donnelly Advertising in New York City; served in the U.S. Army Transport Services; and was a crane operator in Shop 02 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1968 after 28 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Lee Beauregard, and her husband, Robert, of Kittery, Maine; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Visiting hours will be held at the chapel one hour prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friends are invited. Flowers are accepted.

Vernon Evans
ELIOT, Maine - Vernon Leon Evans, 87, of Hanscom Road in Eliot died on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at the Harbor Home in York Harbor, Maine.

He was born on Sept. 20, 1917, in Greenland, N.H., the son of Leon and Katharine (Davis) Evans. He attended local schools before entering the
U.S. Army, serving his country in two foreign wars, both in the
African theater of operations in World War II and in the Korean War.

After his military service, he settled in Eliot and raised a family. In 1964, he met and married his wife of 40 years, Yevette (Cormier) Evans.

He worked as a master painter at Pease Air Force Base for more than 30 years and for 10 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard before his retirement. Early in life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He will be missed by those who knew and loved him, including his wife, Yevette Evans of Eliot; his daughters, Joyce Budlong and her husband, William, of Eliot, Joanne Gschidle and her husband, Peter, of Berwick, and Crystal Baxter of Littleton, Colo.; and a son, Evans, and his wife, June, of Greenland, N.H.; his loving grandchildren, Staci Wallingford, James Mooney, Vernon Warner, Diana Pike, Patrick Chase, Dale Mooney, Heather Lutz, John Budlong, Barry Baxter and Justin Baxter, as well as many great-grandchildren and five sisters.

A memorial service will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, with the Rev. David Avery of the First Congregational Church of Eliot officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Charles Griswold Sr.

GROTON, Conn. - Charles C. Griswold Sr., 80, of Groton, husband of Elaine Howard Griswold of Groton and father of Kathleen Larsen of South Dartmouth, Mass., died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004.

A Mass will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Groton. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St.

Frederick Kurtz

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Frederick A. Kurtz, 55, of Oceanshore Boulevard in Ormond Beach died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at Halifax Medical Center.

He was born in Exeter, N.H., and had lived in the Ormond Beach area for a year and a half after moving there from Hampton, N.H. He was the owner of Shores Laundromat in Daytona Beach Shores and a former federal employee.

He enjoyed motorcycle riding, traveling and surf fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary Sue; a son, Eric, of Atlanta, Ga., a daughter, Deborah Phinney of Summerville, S.C.; his mother, Emogene Kurtz of Exeter, N.H.; a sister, Donna Kaplan of Stratham, N.H.; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Haigh-Black Funeral Home in Ormond Beach. Cremation will follow. Donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association, Gift of Remembrance Headquarters, 1101 N. Lake Destiny Road, Suite 415, Maitland, Fla., 32751-7105.

Donald Johnson

YORK, Maine - Donald P. Johnson, 80, of Beech Ridge Road in York died on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at York Hospital.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23, at noon at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6977 in York.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW Post 6977, 75 Cape Neddick Road, York, ME 03909 to be used for gifts for the troops overseas.

Arrangements are entrusted to J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

James McKenney

ELIOT, Maine - James C. McKenney, 66, of Bolt Hill Road in Eliot died on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at his home.

He was born in Portsmouth, N.H., on Nov. 2, 1937, the son of Ernest C. and Rita A. (Regan) McKenney.

He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He worked as a union bricklayer, traveling throughout New England for many projects. He started his career as an apprentice in Manchester, worked for a time with Bill Boyce in Eliot, and continued with union work for the balance of his career.

He enjoyed growing up in Eliot near the Piscataqua River. He and his brother owned the RITA-A, which was docked at Jerry’s Marina in South Eliot for many years. He and his brother also built the launch house at the marina, which is still in use today. He enjoyed nature, and blueberry picking and cutting wood were two of his most enjoyable outdoor activities.

He is survived by his brother, Bill McKenney of Kittery; his sisters, Mary and her husband, Richard Ellis, of Eliot, and Cathy and Bill Frye of Eliot; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home on Monday at noon with visiting from 10 a.m. until the start of the service. If desired, donations may be made in his memory to the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA, or to Maine Medical Center, 33 Brighton Place, Unit 201, Portland, Maine 04102. Arrangements are entrusted to J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Ann Pignato

HAMPTON - Ann T. Pignato, 73, of 4 Fogg Lane, formerly of Dearborn House, died peacefully after a long illness on Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at the home of her daughter Donna Grant and accompanied by all of her daughters, a niece and one of her wonderful Seacoast Hospice nurses.

She was predeceased by her second husband, Salvatore Pignato, of Woburn, Mass., who died in January 1992. Her first husband is John P. "Jack" Flaherty of Hampton.

She was born Aug. 28, 1931 in Woburn, the daughter of George and Margaret (Devlin) Currier. She received her training as a nurse’s assistant through Choate Memorial Hospital in Woburn, where she worked for many years.

She grew up in Somerville, Mass., before moving to Woburn where she lived for many years. While living in Woburn, she became an active member of the Christian Teaching and Worship Center. She moved to Hampton in 1993. She attended the Church Alive of Portsmouth. Most recently and for many years, she has attended the Maranatha Assembly of God Church of Hampton.

She loved the Lord and had a great deal of love for others and an exuberance to share her faith in Jesus Christ. She enjoyed painting with oils, acrylics and finally with watercolor paint. She was a member of the Artist Guild.

Her survivors include four daughters, Ann M. (Flaherty) Launier of Deerfield, Donna L. (Flaherty) Grant of Hampton, June E. (Flaherty) Chesbrough of Rochester and Linda L. (Flaherty) MacDiarmid of Newburyport, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Pyburn of Burlington, Mass., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, George Currier of Tewksbury, Mass., and William Currier of Somerville, Mass.

Services will be held at the Maranatha Assembly of God Church, 150 High St., Hampton, on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, on Monday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton. If desired, donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Beatrice Woodill

ROCHESTER - Beatrice I. Woodill, 82, formerly of 27 Rochester East, died Friday Oct. 15, 2004, at Riverside Rest Home after a long illness.

She was born Nov. 24, 1921, in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of Charles and Blanche (Kimball) Beliveau.

She had lived in Rochester since 1995 after moving from North Brookfield, Mass. She was employed as an inspector at Olson Manufacturing until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women’s Auxiliary in North Brookfield; she was also a member of the Massachusetts Commission of Senior Citizens and would set up tours and trips for area residents. She was an avid sports enthusiast. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren, always making a point to travel to New Hampshire and support them whatever the occasion.

Members of her family include her sons, George H. Woodill and his wife, Diane, of Rochester, and Roland Woodill and his wife, Diane, of West Boylston, Mass.; her grandchildren, Rodney Woodill of Rochester, Donna Lambert of Rochester, Sharyn Newton of Middleton, Roland Woodill of West Virginia, Barbara Sambito of Holden, Mass., Darlene McCord of Worcester, Mass., Chris Woodill of Kittery, Maine, Tom Poulin of Rochester, and Karen Hoffman of Sacramento, Calif.; her great-grandchildren, Kristy, Erin, Sandra, Rodney II and Elana Woodill, Rachel Sambito, Adam McCord, Ryan Woodill, Lauren Whitehouse, Haleigh Newton, Joshua and Lindy Lambert, Jade and Jordan Woodill, Brittney, Otis and Lily Poulin; her great-great grandchildren, Mikayla, Madyson and Austyn Woodill; a sister, Charlotte Spencer of Worcester; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Lawrence Beliveau and Raymond Beliveau.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St, Rochester. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Douglas Andrews officiating.

Burial will be in Old Cold Spring Cemetery in East Rochester following the funeral.

Robert Bailey
NORTH BERWICK, Maine - Robert W. Bailey, 80, of Maple Street, died suddenly Friday, May 3, 2002, in Portland.

He was born in Gardiner on Jan. 31, 1922, a son of George W. and Bessie (Weeks) Bailey.

He graduated from Gardiner High School in 1942 and was the class president for three years. He played varsity football for four years.

In 1942, he entered the Navy and attended many aviation machinists’ schools. He served in the South Pacific on the Admiralty Islands and in Guam, earning many medals.

Mr. Bailey was a supervisor at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Connecticutt for 27 years before coming to the North Berwick plant in 1979, then retiring in 1983. He attended the First Baptist Church in North Berwick.

He was pre-deceased by a brother, Calvin Bailey. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Georgia Dunton Bailey; a son, Timothy Bailey of Berwick; a daughter, Jean Thompson of North Berwick; three grandchildren, Melissa Brown of Fort Polk, La., Seth Thompson of North Berwick, and Jessie Bailey of Berwick; three brothers, Walter F. Bailey of West Gardiner, John D. Bailey of Peabody, Mass., and Norman G. Bailey of Gardiner; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 7 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Main Street, North Berwick. Visiting hours will be one hour before the funeral service.

Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements by the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick. Friends who wish may contribute to the Seacoast Christian School, 224 Main St., South Berwick, ME 03908.

Lillabel Cummings

ELIOT, Maine - Lillabel Cummings, 84, a longtime resident of Eliot, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at the Harbor Home in York.

Mrs. Cummings was born April 29, 1918, in Gray, the daughter of the late Roy and Ada(Hammond) Pousland. She attended local school and was a graduate of Pennell Institute in 1936.

During her life she was very active in many civic and fraternal organizations. She was very active in her children’s school and church activities. She particularly enjoyed the Girl Scouts and the Order of the Rainbow for Girls. Lillabel was past Mother advisor of the Portsmouth Assembly #2 and was involved a great deal in the local and state assemblies of Maine. She was a charter member of the Advisory Board, Lewiston Assembly 14-ORG as well as a member of the Advisory Board, York Assembly 23-ORG.

Mrs. Cummings was a past matron with her husband for the Golden Sheaf Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in New Gloucester, Maine. Lillabel loved her church and community and was past president of the Ladies Circle of the Eliot Congregational Church. She loved the town of Eliot that she called home and the people in it. Lillabel was a past member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Eliot Fire Department.

Mrs. Cummings worked many years as a gifted and talented floral designer at Flowers by Leslie in Portsmouth. She enjoyed traveling and gardening.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Irving Cummings of Eliot; two daughters, Laverne Burridge and her husband, Jack, of Eliot and Gwendolyn Mason and her husband, Arthur, of Berwick; a son, John Cummings, and his wife, Susan, of Melbourne, Australia; a sister, Marie Baker of California; a niece, Tayna, and her husband, Marc, of Denver, Colo.; two nephews, Larry Cummings of San Diego, Calif., and Gary Cummings of Honolulu, Hawaii; five grandchildren, Michael and Sara Burridge of Eliot, Eric Cummings of Lowell, Mass., Kerry Bolonis of York and Adam Mason of Champaign, Ill.; and four great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Jack Burridge of Eliot, Jeffery Cummings of Portsmouth and Patrick Bolonis of York.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Eliot Congregational Church. The Rev. David Avery will conduct services.

Visiting hours will be held Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery.

Members of the Eastern Star will hold a service Monday evening at 7 p.m. A graveside committal service and burial will take place Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in Upper Gloucester Cemetery, New Gloucester.

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Cummings’ memory may be made to the Beautification Fund for Hammond Park, Eliot Town Office, 141 State Road, Eliot, ME 03903

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery.

Margaret Driscoll

ROCHESTER - Margaret G. Driscoll, 70, of Old Dover Road, Rochester, died after a long illness on Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital.

Formerly of New Britain Ave., Newington, Conn., and more recently of Rochester, she was the daughter of Robert and Mary (Crawford) Galbraith.

She was a loving mother and wife. She graduated from Newington High School. She had been a Girl Scout leader, active in Rainbow Girls, a Cub Scout den mother, and an active volunteer in the Newington school system.

She worked many years in the clerical field. Her loves were fishing, bird watching, reading, and spoiling her grandchildren.

Margaret is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Ronald G. Driscoll of Rochester; two daughters, Lynn Boorman and her husband, James, of Newington, and Lori LaBranche of Rochester; a son, Scott Driscoll and his wife, Bonnie, of South Windsor, Conn.; five grandchildren, Ryan and Stephanie Boorman of Newington, Kyle LaBranche of Rochester, Tyler and Amber Driscoll of South Windsor; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers; Robert and Alexander Galbraith.

A memorial service will be held at Stanley Memorial Church, 639 East St., New Britain, Conn., on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be mailed to your VNA, 178 Farmington Road, Rochester N.H.

Gladys King

ASHLAND - Gladys Lucetta King, 70, of White Mountain Court, died May 3, 2002, at Dartmough Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

She was born in Plymouth on Sept. 17, 1931, the daughter of John and Alice (Annis) Pike.

Mrs. King lived most of her life in Ashland and was employed by Sprague Electric Company for many years.

She is survived by a daughter, Heidi Thompson of Ashland; a son, Raymond L. Sears Jr. of Tilton; a brother, John Pike of Concord; two sisters, Ethel Cushing of Wanego, Kan., and Isabelle French of Plymouth; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held in Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon St., Plymouth, on Monday from 7-9 p.m.

A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fairgrounds Road, Plymouth.

John Lanouette

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - John B. Lanouette, 81, of 26 Butler St., died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at his home following a short illness.

He was born in Dover, N.H., on June 24, 1920, the son of Henry E. and Rosanna (Fortin) Lanouette. He served 21 years in the Navy, enlisting in 1940 and retiring from active duty in 1961.

He attained the rate of GMC and was fulfilled and proud of his military career. He was present during the bombing of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

After his military service, he worked briefly at Clarostat and then was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a rigger, retiring in 1974. His hobby of small engine repair became extensive.

He was a resident of South Berwick since 1961. He was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. In addition he was a member of the Rod and Gun Club of South Berwick, the American Legion, Rollinsford Post 47, the South Berwick Veterans of Foreign Wars, the National Rifle Association, the South Berwick Fire Department and the Sportsmen’s Alliance of Maine.

Family members include his wife, Anita L. (Bennett) Lanouette, who he married on April 24, 1944; two sons, William D. Lanouette of Rochester, N.H., and Michael E. Lanouette of Shapleigh, Maine; three daughters, Denise M. Brooks of Berwick, Maureen R. Finger of Standish, and Patricia A. Boston of North Berwick; four brothers, Raymond Lanouette of Fall River, Mass., Maurice Lanouette and Robert Lanouette, both of Sun City, Fla., and Arthur Lanouette of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Jeanette Shaw of Port Richie, Fla., and Gloria Gardner of Sun City, Fla.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers, Ted, Royal, Henry and Roland Lanouette; and a sister, Linda Coan.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Michael’s Church with the Rev. H.J. Cameron, pastor as celebrant. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to South Berwick Emergency Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 157, South Berwick, ME 03908.

The McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., assisted with the arrangements.
